hello ladies, i've been lurking but not really posting this week as i've been having a few family 'issues' that have left me feeling below par.

A quick get well soon to BoB and hello to BoB's friend.

Lovely to meet you again Goldenoldie and you for the first time Tessasmum .

Re: subscriptions - there was a huge hoo-ha a while back about MN taking adverts from formula co's, and people felt like they had to leave MN as a form of protest. However, because MN subsciptions are voluntary no-one pays for them and as a result the women who run MN can't pay themselves unless they take these kinds of adverts. This is a long winded way of saying that if you can afford even a little it would be a good sign of support to all the hard work that goes into running MN, they put in a lot of hours with very little financial reward. This site for me is worth more than the £250 I paid for ante-natal classes and the £2.50 for each baby mag I buy a month. Most of us use it every day and find the advice invaluable. Sorry - rant over .

pinkminx79 · 01/10/2005 13:10

now i feel bad

i'll prolly make a donation when i get some money then

xx

novadandypowder · 01/10/2005 13:30

I'm not out to make anyone feel bad, just feel quite strongly about it.

Should also add that due to pressure from MN users the people that run it have decided not to take anymore lucrative ad deals if it compromises what MN stands for.

pinkminx79 · 01/10/2005 13:38

thats fair enough, i promise to make a donation when i get some free pennies

xx

Hiya

Great to have you back Nova - Hope your family issues have calmed down a bit, we were getting worried - although it was ChaCha that I thought might start the stalking!!!!!

Beks - I don't think you are being sensitive at all, my DH wouldn't think of going out for two nights in a row at the mo, he knows he wouldn't be coming home to a very happy wifey!!!! I think you are very understanding, what difference is an hour going to make in the long run?

BoB - Hope all is well, thinking of you!!!!

BoB's friend enjoy yourself on here - but as the others have said watch out it can get addictive. Please pass on best wishes to BoB when you see her and some choccie if they allow it

ChaCha - Hope you are having a lovely weekend, stuffing yourself silly with all that yummy food!!!! I have now found a craving for chocolate that I have NEVER had before and I am so hungry all the time, started really suddenly yesterday!

I woke up with horrible pains in my bump this morning, was thinking 'this can't be it, I can't be in labour yet' Thing is it was like a contraction that just didn't subside. Lasted for about half an hour then went and then came back. I don't know if I pulled a muscle or something as it only hurt when I was lying down, when I stood up it subsided and then went away, only to come back when I laid down again. Very odd. Got me really worried about having baby early though, as despite being organised I haven't actually packed the hossies bag or written the birth plan yet. Have got all the bits I need to do both, but have just bee putting it off so I'd have something to do later!!!!

It did start me wondering though, if you do gp into labour this early 34ish weeks, is it the same as normal term labour, in that do you stay at home with the early contractions, or do you go to hospital straight away, would you give birth 'normally' or would it be counted as an emergency? Sorry for all the questions!!!

Beks - How many weeks were you when you gave birth to Ben? Why do you think this one may be early?

Right better actually spend some time with DH

Byyee

Hi all,

Nova thanks for the info on subs will donate when I have some free pennies, I couldn't believe the fuss that was made over the milk advert, surely the more info the better the site - I don't suppose they can win in the long run can they.

Enthusia, thanks for the sympathy and hour lost meant ohh at least two extra pints !
If you do go into labour this early you would need to call your mw & the hospital straight away as you would need close monitoring, they may even try to stop the labour if they can catch you fast enough, because although baby is fully formed it's lungs aren't really strong enough to support it so it may need special care right from the off. I think this is right but I'm sure some of the others can give you more info.

AS for Ben I had him at 37 weeks as I started to develop pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks, didn't even know I had it until I went for my routine 36 week mw check which happened to be at the hospital and they told me to go home and get my bag they were keeping me in. I went in on the Thursday begged to go home for the w/end and was readmitted by the mw on the Monday, they induced me on the Wednesday & I had Ben on the Friday morning and needless to say I was fine once he was out!

I think I'm likely to go early with this one as all the same signs are appearing just a bit earlier this time, & they are a bit more obvious even I'm a bit concerned this time.
I may be wrong but becasue I also have had high blood pressure they may decide to move things along like they did last time. I'm hoping they do as Ben is really starting to fret about the baby coming which is all the more upsetting and stressful so sooner the better personally!!!

Right best go and see what Ben is up to, he's been fine all day today after yesterdays bug but has just gone listless and whingey now his dad's gone out, so I think it will be an early cup of milk and bed for one little 3 year old, leaving mummy to try and get her feet above her heaad for the rest of the evening!

Speak to yu all later Beks

Enthusia · 01/10/2005 18:32

Thanks for that Beks - Was Ben put into a SCBU at 37 weeks or was he with you? Isn't there anything they can do about the pre eclampsia if they know you have it?

Busyalexsmummy · 01/10/2005 19:44

theres not alot you can do about pre eclampsia, apart from deliver the baby.

wrote my birth plan this week, havent been on much(well have been lurking reading posts but havent had the time to post really)

chacha howd you get on at the nct sale?

tessasmum · 01/10/2005 19:51

Has anyone been to look at the Africacam thing mentioned as Mumsnet starts up, its brilliant!! Just logged on and got to see an elephant straight away.
Am now reading Mumsnet stuff with wild animal noises in the background

tessasmum · 01/10/2005 19:58

Had midwife appointment before going to London on Friday. Everything is going well and have next appointment at home in 2 weeks time to discuss/plan homebirth. It seems to be very different in different areas as there has been no mention of chats with consultants/GPs etc who have to give to OK or was that something specific for you Londoner?

CADS - have you had your homevisit thing yet?

Had a bit of a panic a few nights ago when I realised how close this is to happening and all I had done was buy some cotton wool balls. Went out next day and got maternity pads/breast pads/nice toiletries (both relaxing ones for now and energising ones for afterwards ) and have got baby clothes down from the loft. Will have to retrieve the latter as Tessa has been 'investigating' the box and try to get them washed.
No more 3am panics since!

BEKsmum · 01/10/2005 22:25

Hi ya have just spent and hour watching Maternity Ward on Discovery Health and spent most of it bawling my eyes out, feel very refreshed now!

Enthusia, I was lucky Ben was fine, he weighed 6lb 7oz and had an extremely fine set of lungs, which he exercised frequently . The only thing he did get was a bit of jaundice but as our lounge was painted a colour called citronella, which was like a greeny yellow, (sounds disgusting now - it wasn't honest!) it was hard to tell if it was the reflection from the walls or if was actually him!!!

Busy nice to see you back, I had a phase of lurking rather than posting the other week, glad to hear you're all right though.

Right I think I'm going to go to bed now so that I can leave dh to sleep off his excesses on the sofa, I normally feel bad and go and fetch him several times when he falls asleep downstairs but tonight I think he's welcome to the sofa and I can have the whole bed to myself and hopefully it will be a snore free zone, although I did manage to wake myself up with my own snoring the other day!!!

Here's to a good night sleep for all Beks

Busyalexsmummy · 01/10/2005 22:45

eeeek, having a bad/long night with ds, not sure whats wrong with him, he just keeps waking up screaming, not entirely sure wether its bad dreams or teething or sore throat or something???? he wont have any medicine and doesnt want anougher bottle, so am at a bit of a loss, just got to listen out for him and see what happens...[tired emoticon]

Busyalexsmummy · 01/10/2005 22:46

uh oh, hes just started up again...

Busyalexsmummy · 02/10/2005 00:18

at last...... ds is bedded(hopefully for the night) so im going to hop off now and try and get some kip as we have a long day tommorrow helping mil clean/tidy/repair her flat she has just bought!

ChaCha · 02/10/2005 11:07

Good morning ladies

Hope everyone's bumps & kids are well today.
Am feeling full of life after being asleep since 9pm, we did however wake up at 3.30am for a plate of homemade chips and slept again till the morning! You'd think DH is PG too!

Nova - Hoping everything is well with your family now. We missed your msg's. Glad you're back and hope to see your usual posts soon.

Beks - Good that Ben is feeling better now. Hope you had some rest.

Busy - NCT sale was a nightmare! There wasn't room to swing a cat and although I tried to get there right on time we spent ages trying to find a parking space and walked into what I can only call chaos! Did battle it out for a good 20mins but didn't find anything I wanted. A lot of the newborn clothes seemed to be duplicates of what i have already been given and anything worthwhile was probaby snapped up first thing. Hope Alex is better and you got some sleep.

Tessasmum - Shopping for those treats is lovely don't you think? I read it's really important to choose some pampering toiletries for after the birth to make you feel good. They said that it might have been hours since you'd cleaned your teeth/washed etc.. I spent an hour in Boots yesterday trying to pick shampoo/conditioner. I do love the smell of the Charles Worthington soon but again, I could NOT make a decision for love nor money - terrible!!!

Enjoy your Sunday girls x

twinkle1 · 02/10/2005 20:00

Snap on the decorating Twinkle!

I've just finished painting the walls in our bedroom and it looks fab, but really untidy - I haven't the energy to put anything back in it's place! Me and my sister did it and we had quite a laugh actually, but my back is killing now! Will have a hot bath before Waking the Dead and Lost.

Poo to the NCT sale Chacha - I hate it when that happens! Peaople must get there an hour early or something!! It's the same with school events like Sports Day. I get there 10 mins early to get a space and I'm about the last there!! Annoying!

Good luck tomorrow Twinkle, let us know ASAP!!

8 days to go - AARGHHH!!! x x x

I'm huge now, i feel it and look it oh and now everyone seems to have a right to grab my tummy. hmph!

hope you're all ok

xx

sarahsausage · 02/10/2005 22:27

Hiya ladies

Rodeo - i take it you are a Charmed fan? I too have the names Pheobe and Piper on my list although im pretty much decided on a girls name. Not sure i want to post it here as mum and sister dont like it but then i dont like either of the names my sister (due in 3 weeks) has chosen for her baby although i never told her that.

Will probably change my mind though, havent seemed to be able to decide on any this time around.

I have caught the knitting bug. Went shopping for wool and patterns for baby but ended up with stuff for dd. I finished her cardigan (my first ever!) and it looks ok. Am working on one for baby at the moment, and also have wool and pattern for a blanket hat and jumper set for baby then a poncho and beret pattern for dd, so am keeping busy! just hope it all turns out ok.

Starting to get fed up now and want baby to come now. Even if baby stays breech and i have a section at 38 weeks, will still have to wait 6 weeks arrrgghhh!

Hope you are all well

rodeo1 · 02/10/2005 22:33

Oh no SarahS!! I hate Charmed! They're both from Charmed?? That's really put me off now, back to the original plan then I think! Thanks for letting me know! Go on - please let us in on your names!

Well done on the completion of baby stuff Pink!

Busyalexsmummy · 03/10/2005 06:45

hi all, ugh, been up since 5.55am as it seems ds has caught anougher cold so he woke himself up coughing.
feel shattered, we started on mil's flat at 11am yesterday and cleaned solidly till 5pm! it was filthy in there, its suprising how bad people will leave properties, id be bloody ashamed to leave it in that state!

rodeo- 8 days till what? section? wow scarey!!

chacha-thats pants about nct sale, I usually get to them at least 1/2 hr early, then im usually 1st or in the 1st few in the queque!, but yes they are chaos, especially when people decide to take their children and buggys, I always try to leave ds at home as its much less stress and i can squeeze past people to get to stuff!

sarahsausage-The names are lovely, we havent come up with any yet

twinkle1-oooh how exciting, let us know when you get the date! why are you having a c/sec? -sorry you probably have already said but i may have missed the post!

Morning all

Have dentists today - aggghhhhhhh, two deep fillings to be removed and replaced, not looking forward to that. I take it they can still inject the area to numb it???????

Had a truly lovely weekend, didn't do much and feel great for it. Mind has come alive though and my dreams are becoming very vivid, couldn't sleep last night as a result!

ChaCha - I arrived half an hour early for a nearly new sale back when I was only a few months pg and was about 50th in the queue, and the hall was tiny!!! Decided not to go to anymore now as I feel I have everything and I would just be buying for the sake of it!!!!!!

As for names, our girl's name was easy, we had that chosen before I got PG, but the boy's name has been a nightmare. The first one was also chosen by two of our friends (although not close friends it didn't seem right) and then our second one kept bringing thoughts of a skinhead teenager smoking and swearing (so that had to go) and now this one was recently given to a baby on a tv show that was stillborn. DH and I both watched knowing they were going to say the name and then screamed in frustration when they did!!!!!

Have been having loads of thoughts that something happens to bubs and that I come home without him/her (ie, it dies etc) it is really freaking me out now, and hearing our name given to a stillborn baby on the tv just freaked me, am I being really stupid? This isn't really like me. Is it normal to have thoughts like this?

Right better tidy the house etc, it is a bombsite after the weekend.

Hope you are all well

34+3

Busyalexsmummy · 03/10/2005 07:54

you can have the injections at the dentist yes, i had major dental work done in june and had about 6 injections!

I wouldnt worry about your strange thoughts/dreams etc its perfectly normal, when i was pg with ds, at the end of the pg i was having loads of strange dreams, and i kept hearing lots of stories of friend of a friend about stillbirth/things going wrong, i think its just one of those things at this stage(not that that probably makes you feel any better) chin up,try not to worry and look forward to meeting your baby soon!

Enthusia · 03/10/2005 08:33

Thanks Busy

It is not always in my mind, but every now and then these thoughts pop in and just freak me out! I suppose we are going through a major life change so it must be natural to have weird thoughts, it is just a bit unnerving.

babyonboard · 03/10/2005 09:48

hello everyone!
eek..what a weekend! thank god my friend was here as dp was told he had to go away with work about an hour after I was sent home from the clinic to get my hospital bag and admit myself...
was nice to have someone to bring me decent food and mags!hehe
this has made us even more peeved with dp's work though..i can't believe they wouldn't arrange for someone to cover for him when he told them I was going into hospital at 33 weeks pregnant..grr..he so needs a new job!I had really low blood pressure and a suspect urine test at the clinic..though she wouldn't say what..all was fine at the hospital though so maybe it was a mistake..
All is good now though..my blood pressure has stabilised to its usual slightly low leveel so fingers crossed it was just a one off.
Also blagged a couple of scans from a lovely aussie doctor with a protable machine..hehe..everytime he was on the ward he popped in to 'sneak' me one...the tot was sucking his thumb everytime..we'll have to break that habit!

all this talk of labour scares from you is scary! It is getting really close..can't believe how quickly time is going!
there were a couple of women on the ward who'd been going through failed inductiuons..hope none of us have to deal with that ..it seemed awful.
Anyway..back to reading all the posts I missed..
Thanks for welcoming my friend..bet she gets addicted too!
