Evening all!

Sounds like lots of people are in the wars though I think it was about time that you started feeling better ChaCha, you've had more than your fair share of yucky things.

Enthusia - definately sounds like baby is well engaged. I've been like that for about 2 weeks and at times walking and repositioning myself when sitting/kneeling has been painful, a very spiky pain as I think you said. The rest of the time it just feels like a bowling ball down there
Can't remember it being quite this uncomfy last time but then I didn't feel the Braxton Hicks last time and I certainly have this time. Been getting lots over past 3 days and threw myself into a panic on Saturday night as I was convinced that the baby was going to turn up. Biggest concern was where we would put it as friend's Moses basket is still at her house and the cot was in the loft - amazing what is important at 2am, no concern about actual labour at all

Had a nice day today - midwife came out this morning for the homebirth visit which made it all seem MUCH more real. Brought loads of incontinenece sheets and a birth pack of disposable bits and pieces. Also brought the Bounty birth pack which Tessa spent the rest of the day opening and claiming. Actually a much better pack than I remember last time round, even got a free muslin, though that, as well as a new-born nappy, some scratch mitts and some baby toothpaste seem to have been 'liberated'. Think Tessa and her baby are better prepared than her mother and the real baby

BEKS - how has Ben been? Hopefully much happier. Him being able to express some of his anxieties has helped us over the w/e as Tessa has been showing quite a bit of anxiety for the first time - wetting herself and some MAJOR tantrums. She can't express things as well but we have taken the gist from Ben and are now trying to spend more time doing things with her, mainly curled up on the sofa reading (especially after you're getting stuck story!!) and making sure we tell her how loved she is, and still will be! She was a much happier little girl today.

Think I'd better finish before I claim any records.

Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep

37 weeks!!!

ChaCha · 17/10/2005 20:49

Awwwwww.....Nova!!! You've made me all emotional and weepy
Sounds like a great birth, do hope i'm as fortunate. I want to ask you soooo many questions now, keep us filled in, I'm soooooooo happy for you. Any chance of a pic?
Love Chacha xxxxx

tessasmum · 17/10/2005 20:54

Crossed posts Nova!

Really glad it was all so positive and quick. You keep holding and smelling that baby and enjoy every second of it.

novadandypowder · 17/10/2005 21:03

Please do ask questions before I forget everything!

Just remembered a couple of other bits - had been worried about pooing, and have to say that when you're there you just do it - they got through quite a lot of mess mats!! My hands and feet swelled to HUGE proportions afterwards and are only just beginning to go down, but still uncomfy. Pushing makes you very hot so make sure you've got a cold flannel to hand. Was worried about DH watching 'down there' but he ended up holding one of my legs during the pushing and was very pleased to be so involved and found the birth amazing.

And finally, I don't think I mentioned that my baby is wonderful .

karmamother · 17/10/2005 22:21

Well done, Nova. So glad your experience was happy & fulfilling. Wonder who'll be next? My money's on Enthusia...

Tessasmum - you must be getting quite excited now. Have you decided where in the house you want to give birth? Who'll be looking after Tessa whilst you're delivering? Have you got your post-delivery treats sorted out? (by that I mean an enormous box of Thorntons Continental or somethig similar?)

Dp is on nights tonight so I can stay online for ages . He thinks I'm addicted to this thing....could be right! I guess by logging on here with our grumps & moans we save our relationships with our dp/dh's.

goldenoldie · 17/10/2005 23:23

Nova - so good to hear from you.

Enthusia · 18/10/2005 07:04

Oooohhhh Nova I am soooooooo jealous!!!!!!!!!!

I am so happy that it went so well for you and that you are back on here already!!!!!! What a great experience and Natalie sounds wonderful. Can't wait for a meetup with all the bubs!!!!!! Give her a big hug from me (and a good relaxing sniff, I too love the smell of babies)

As for me still here but have another TMI question so look away now if you need to! Last night went by normally but this morning was talking to DH whilst sitting on the bed, sat there for about 10mins (wearing just a short nightshirt) and when I got up I noticed I had left a wet patch on the duvet cover!!!! It is not a huge wet patch though, and 'down there' just feels moist, no trickles or gushing or anything, could it be just a heavy discharge or is that too heavy (ie to escape the lady garden and get to the bed?) I have seen to myself and just keep getting very moist, ie, every few minutes, noticed this last night as well as I had a good cry and felt a rush of moistness but was wearing a pad etc, so not sure how much.

AM I GOING MAD AND EXAGGERATING EVERYTHING???????????

Feeling bit weird about it all as my midwife is so 'no nonsense' I don't want her to laugh at me or tell me I am being stupid if she finds out that I am not that close at all and have just been working myself up. Are these just normal pg symptoms or are they all worth mentioning do you think? This was also a though I had when Mothercare lady said bubs was quite high when she measured me for a bra yesterday, am I just blowing things out of all proprtion?

I am getting even more worked up than I normally would as DH is meant to be away in Manchester again next week and would like me to go. So I am in a dilemma, if I don't go he will be at least 4 hours away if something happens, and I'd be left on my own here for 4 days (I am finding the normal 11 hour working day on my own horrible at the mo, sorry to anyone whose DP's are away more than mine!)but if I go and something happens, then what do I do? DH can't cancel his trip unless something big happens and I am scared of being here on my own! I know I am being a wimp!!!!

Helllppppppp!!!!!!!!

Am seeing mw at 3, so know I am just being paranoid before that but if anyone has any advice please let me know.

And please let me get back to being as happy as my name suggests very soon !!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to go on and on and on and on and on!!!!!!

36+4

twinkle1 · 18/10/2005 08:36

morning enthusia,
dont worry you do become a bit mad and paranoid toward the end
As for dh trip up here if you dont want to be on own then go and just take notes with u the hospitals up here are pretty good. How many days would you need to be up here for???? do you have to stay in the golden tulip again???
sounds like head is engaging as for discharge, its prob just heavy vaginal discharge or you are weeing yourself a bit its just once the head is very low it presses on your bladder constantly!! if it is your waters try sitting on the loo and pushing if it is your waters then you should feel & hear more waters coming out(sorry if that is tmi)
well must go and take kids to school
talk later

LilJ · 18/10/2005 09:59

Gosh it's getting so exciting!!! Enthusia I bet you're next!

Nova - so glad you had such a positive experience - Natalie sounds adorable and I'm sure loving all the attention!

I've got my second anti-D injection today and I'm going to speak with m/w about my EDD as my growth scan indicates that the baby is rather large already. And my bump has dropped over past couple of days, which I know doesn't necessarily mean anything, but makes me slightly panic as house, hubby and myself not quite ready yet!

I'm a bit worried as I'm supposed to go on last romantic (hmmm - difficult these days!) trip to Paris next Thursday for a long w/e (by Eurostar) and not very keen on the idea of giving birth in a foreign language! Even though DH would love it. I don't want to cancel, especially as officially I'll only be 36 weeks, but maybe it's first time jitters but I've got a definite feeling this baby coming quite a bit early.

J xx

Enthusia · 18/10/2005 10:21

Hiya again

God, yet another sleep, how can one person be so tired. I slept for 5 hours yesterday during the day, then a full night (apart from toilet and turning breaks) and now another hour and a half!!!! And it is full sleep too, with dreams!!!! I suppose I should count myself lucky though considering some of you are finding sleep elusive at the mo!

Right, no more fluid - thanks Twinkle!!! Feeling a bit more human as well, had a shower and am just about to have another snack.

Thanks Twinkle for the advice about Manchester as well. I have this idea that if I went into labour in Manchester the hospital would be really p*ed off with me, as would my midwife and that I would be told off for travelling out of my area. I take it this wouldn't be the case?

I would like to go with DH as I dread being on my own here, that is worse than the being told off scenario!!! Hopefully we wouldn't be staying at the Golden Tulip, DH is going to or has put in a complaint about staying there!!!!!! We would be up for 3 nights. Going to Cambridge on Tuesday morning, then up to Manchester Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday in Manchester and then Thursday in Liverpool and Friday in Warrington.

Twinkle - glad you got a carpet fitter organised, and a breast feeding group too, excellent.

LilJ - Ooh a romantic break, sounds great and makes my trip to Manchester seem petty to worry about giving birth in!!!!!

BEKsmum · 18/10/2005 10:40

Morning Tessa, thanks for asking Ben has been a lot better since the arrival of my mum and dad, although we have had to be cruel to be kind and have told him that if he kicks off like he has been then we would stop them coming round to see him, it seems to be working at the moment.
The other trick we've found that works is to put him on the floor for four minutes facing the wall if he really goes nuts, he hates it so it's worth persevering with even though it's a bit upsetting.

I'm glad Tessa is settling down for you, I'm sure she is enjoying the attention, and feeling very reassured that she is loved as much as ever. I think she's actually at quite a nice age for a sibling as Ben is a bit too aware now of the competition!

Thankfully now Ben seems to be excited about the birth as I've been able to tell him that it will be happening soon as I'm 37+5 now so reckon it will be here by the end of half term, after I've run around like a lunatic after him for a week Beks

twinkle1 · 18/10/2005 10:45

enthusia,
midwives would not bat an eyelid if you turned up at there hosp (make sure u take maternity notes) I have delivered lots of people from out of our area some from different countrys at least u speak english
At least you will be happy because you will be with your other half
I have just unpacked the new steam sterilizer and found a space for it in the kitchenIts just too exciting (Sorry im gettting very sad)
I should iron but my ribs r killing so it will have to wait or just get put away slightly creased

BEKsmum · 18/10/2005 11:01

Morning girls,

Thought I'd better break this into two posts other wise it would have been a foot long and you'd all have been asleep.

Bob, hope you are alright now, I think a week of takeaways will make you feel better and you'll be less likely to blow up the house!

Sarahsausage, congrats to you sister, hope you get a quicker labour though.

Alfiesmum, so glad to see you back, sorry to hear about your mum, it must be so hard for you, my dh lost his dad when I was 7mths pregnant with Ben and it really rocks you doesn't it, so if you need to chat just cat me.

Nova, what a fantastic birth story, you won't be scared to go in for number two now will you Natalie sounds beautiful and you make sure you cuddle her as much as you like, you can never give them too much attention, no matter what anyone says.

Enthusia, don't worry about your mw being a no nonsense sort of person, tell her how you feel and ask her to examine you, she's seen this lots of times before and I can guarantee she will understand that you are worried and has been asked the same questions hundreds of times before. Being a first timer is scary enough anyway.

This sounds silly but I'm nervous too and not sure what to expect either as I was induced so didn't have the signs of natural birth last time so like you I'm checking everything closely looking for the signs that labour is going to happen so experience really counts for nothing sometimes!!!

I went to the hospital yesterday and had my blood pressure taken, thought I was going to blow up the machine when it went to 170/90, thankfully after a few minutes it went back to nearer my normal pressure but I was a bit freaked out for a minute there! Had protein in my water too, but then did another test and it disappeared, how I manage this I'm not really sure!!! Have mw on Thursday and then two appointments next week at the hospital. Roll on the 3rd November my new date as I've had enough of this now!!! I reckon a week chasing around after Ben next week should bring it on hopefully otherwise I'll be going out dressed as the worlds biggest pumpkin on Halloween!

Right best go as I have promised Ben he can play on here, sorry if I've missed anyone. Beks (37+5)

ChaCha · 18/10/2005 11:42

Morning ladies,

Hope everyone is well.

Enthusia - Is probably better to be near DH than being stuck at home alone. Can i just suggest that you don't do your marathon walks into town and take things very easy and just relax, read, use hotel facilities etc.. Also make sure DH doesn't switch phone off when in meetings etc. and that it's just kept on silent so he can check it every so often. I still say Beks will be first and then you!! Am hoping Alfiesmum's dream means exactly the opposite and it will be the boy we're expecting and i'll be last as opposed to next with a girl!!! Yikes

DH has promised to come home early today to rearrange furniture before mum & DP arrive, there always seems so much to do.

See you all later xx

babyonboard · 18/10/2005 12:35

hi all...
Dp told me off last night..still can't believe how silly i was..
maybe we should invest in an electric oven instead of the washer dryer we had planned..hehe
twinkle -lol at your driving story.
enthusia -any news? i am now convinced you will be next!

and finally nova..welome back, congratulations, and well done!
sounds like a remarkable birth for a first timer...hope we are all as lucky!
i can imagine you were pretty shocked, with it all happening in one day out of the blue! ...bet natalie was worth missing lunch at the ivy for ! hehehe
I'm looking into mobile epidurals now, as all thoughts of just using gas and air and a birthing pool have gone out of the window..
was it easy to time it waering off with the pushing stage?
did you have to have a catheter? (for some reason the thought of this scares me more than actually giving birth)

anyway, glad you are weell and found the time to share your story with us..!

Enthusia · 18/10/2005 12:44

ChaCha - Marathon walks, I'll be lucky if I can make it from our room to breakfast without the use of a zimmer frame, or without falling asleep!!!! Just been to Tescos and that knackered me out completely!!!!!!!

Glad your excited about seeing your mum, it will be nice to have the company during the day!!!!!

Think you are right about going with DH, really don't want to be abandoned here. Plus its half term so all my friends are away as they are either teachers or have school age kids!!!!!

BoB - Glad you are feeling well enough to put 'hehehe's' in your messages - you must be on the mend!!!!

Right lunch calls then MW!!!!!!

ChaCha · 18/10/2005 12:50

Good luck at the m/w Enthusia and let us know what she says!! You know..like 'xxxx You are 4cm's dilated....' LOL

BoB - Glad you're well.

I've had some leftover wraps from last night but am still starving. I'm also feeling really tired after sleeping from 9.30pm till this morning. Must be needing it.
Can i also add that since i've been on the juice and off the coke baby doesnt seem to move so much
Poor little mite, think he might have withdrawal symptoms when born, at least that's what DH is saying

Bath and food and back later x

babyonboard · 18/10/2005 12:55

ooooh..chcha i am off the coke at the moment too...
last night I had a big glass, then went to the loo and suddenly and violently threw up pure black liquid..I didn't have time to move so it all ended up in a basket of clothes waiting to be hung to dry...yuck!
I'm guessing baby doesn't like coke anymore!

or maybe i'm just greedy and drank it too fast...

Enthusia..you should go with him..and relax!... but be sure to look up the local hospitals!

babyonboard · 18/10/2005 12:56

teeheee heee @ 'off the coke'
guess kate moss really does set all the trends...

babyonboard · 18/10/2005 13:32

can I do a quick survery about strecthmarks?
I was just on the phone to my gran, and mentioned I was pleased I only had a couple on the back of my knee..and in her usual oh so sensitive way she said..'oh well you wouldn't have them yet..we'll see in a couple of weeks, you'll be covered in the bleeders!'
teeheee..but is she right?
how many of you have them on your bump and when do they appear?

KristinaM · 18/10/2005 13:37

oh BoB I'm so glad you asked. i have none yes that's none , either from last two pregnancies or this one. GLOAT GLOAT

Do you all hate me??? Now I will get loads in teh next two weeks from being such a smart ar88

ChaCha · 18/10/2005 13:41

LOL I have stretch marks!!! Primarily they were the scars from two previous operations that have sort of expanded and as of late a few newish looking stretch marks that are all very low down my bump. Looks like someone has dragged their fingernails up my bump to just underneath my navel
I'm very proud of my lovely stretch marks. They are just beautiful.....(well you have to convince yourself don't you)

babyonboard · 18/10/2005 13:43

teehee kristina..thats impressive!
and chacha i have a similar thing, around my scar from having my appendix out the skin is a bit more loose and crinkly...
my mum has absolutely tons of them so I am a bit worried I will have the same...

alfiesmum · 18/10/2005 13:52

BOB - sorry to say that I was strechmark free until week 38 with DS then my stomach was covered with them. This time round I have no new ones yet but originals look terrible and stretched to the limit.
I think it totally depends on how you are carrying and skin type, I put no weight on anywhere except massive beachball bump and only got them on my stomach. Friends of mine that had flatter smaller bumps got them up their sides/back but not stomach.

You never no you might not get any, of all the people I know with babies about half have them so you could be one of the lucky ones!
