Afternoon all.

KristinaM - Wallace & Gromit was rather entertaining. I thought it was a bit slow at first but it picked up halfway through. Lots of visual gags aimed at parents so, all in all, not bad. Still not a patch on Shrek (my all time fave). Regarding sections, I'm increasingly certain that I'm heading that way too. I spoke to a friend recently who has had 2, one emergency & one elective & she said an elective cs is absolutely fab. As far as I can tell, the only advantage for me if I have a section is that my pelvic floor won't be wrecked from pushing out a big baby. I too, am worried about recovering from an operation with a new baby. I live in a little village so I'm not looking forward to not being able to drive for 6 wks. Sorry, I was supposed to cheer you up, wasn't I? I do feel for you, having the extra workload of a toddler. Has your MW told you what to do if your waters go? If they do, & you're not contracting, chances are your cervix won't have opened up enough to allow a cord prolapse. OBVIOUSLY, it's still an indication to go to the hospital ASAP with a transverse lie. If you're worried you have had a cord prolapse, what I would do is place 2 fingers gently into my vagina (sorry TMI) & have a feel. It will pulsate with baby's heartbeat. Don't touch it anymore than that. Get onto all fours with bum as high as possible & phone 999. I really don't want to alarm you but fore-warned is fore-armed, IMO.

ChaCha - where do get your floradix from? I've searched everywhere & have resorted to plain old iron tablets & I think they're making me constipated.

Enthusia - really sorry to hear you've been feeling so low. It does sound like the head is becoming well engaged....always a good thing! It does produce a wide range of uncomfortable sensations down below. As hard as it sounds, if your body is getting ready for labour you might want to stay as active as possible. Staying upright helps gravity keep baby's head against your cervix which will encourage things to progress. Have you got a TENS? If so, you can use it to help with back pain even if you're not in labour (but don't use it before 37/38 wks as it can mask prem labour)

Alfiesmum, you won't know me as I only started using mn a short while ago, but I'm sorry for your loss. Anytime you want to talk about it, we're here.

Rodeo, thanks for the birth story...but we want to know more!! All the details please! All spelling mistakes will be overlooked as you'll obviously be sleep deprived & be typing with 1 finger!!

Again, a random stranger approached me yesterday to enquire how long I had left. When I said "6 wks" she loudly proclaimed.."My daughter has only 4 to go & she's not as big as you". Had I had my wits about me I would have told her to a) p*ss off, and b) well your daughter isn't as good as growing her baby as I am. I know people are generally well-meaning but I'm now public property so that means you can say what you like about me to my face. Am I just being too sensitive? Should I lighten up? I thought this would all stop once I left work. Well, thats my moan for today. Thanks for listening.

ChaCha · 17/10/2005 16:33

Hi ChaCha, how are you doing? Haven't see you online in ages!!! Sorry, just kidding around.

CADS - Welcome back to cyberland! We have been asking where you are too. Glad to see you back.
I think we've all had our share of anti-social phases throughout our pregancies and it's not surprising really. I hope your aches and pains get better and that you can get back online! Are there no other MNers in your area Cads?

Beks - How was today's hospital visit?

Twinkle - Hope carpet fitting goes well and that you're in less pain. Sorry to hear about rib pain. Can't be easy.

Busy - I know i'll type this now and you probably won't read it, it's no wonder you chose the name 'Busy'! Don't see you on here for days on end at times. Sorry to hear that you got the appt wrong but I couldn't help laughing. That is the kind of thing that drives my DH nuts! Worst of all, I just start laughing and make the situation worse

SS - Congratulations on the birth of your niece!

Enthusia - Hope you're having a quiet and relaxing afternoon with no scares! I think we need to make it policy on here that all November ladies must check in during the morning to let us know individual plans. Scary to think one minute we're posting our moans, groans and boredom stories and then it's an announcment!!

BoB - I have been drinking lemonade with slices of lemon and ice for a few whole days. Aren't I clever? No coke!! I've also made my own ice cold hibiscus drink. I wonder how long i'll last without my 'bring me sunshine!' LOL

Londoner - Glad party frollicks all went well.

Hi everyone!
Spent long time catching up, so only a few minutes till library session ends!
Alfiesmum - remember you, and so sorry for your sad news . You sound as though you are being very brave.
Rodeo and Nova: belated congrats ; lovely names, and wow, both of you so calm. Hope you had your well deserved post-birth goodies.
Enthusia: am getting worried about you and all your activity. You must stop and have more hot chocolates! I think (from my non-existant) medical knowledge that your baby's head has engaged, hence intimate pressing sensation (is it nice? . Sorry def. not appropriate comment! Seriously though girl, rest while you can!
Twinkle: agree about the mixed feelings re: last baby (Beks too); odd to think it will be the last time, but then what's the alternative? I suppose we could hold onto the fact that a 4th is possible, but that we are just choosing to stop things here, but can always change our minds! I'm determined to give labour a really good go this time, but bubs still in OP position, and not sure if this back labour lark is something I want to go through without an epidural. Do you thinks TENS can really cut it?
Saw lovely midwife last week, who doesn't think I'll go over 39 weeks, as not much room left at top of uterus (and to think I only measured 31 cms a week ago...hmmmm!!)
Oh ChaCha, you got me a dirty look from neighbour at library with my chuckling at your shoe bag. Even worse when saw picture and word 'schooz' .
Anyone else's heartburn now reaching volcanic lava proportions? Have also developed red itchy lumpy spots (almost pustule-type) on left thigh. Incredibly itchy. Any ideas as to what they might be?
Only 3 minutes left, so will go now and stop my ramblings. Speak soon, and everyone take it easy!!
Diege 36+1xxx

babyonboard · 17/10/2005 16:37

hven't read the posts yet as I feel like hyperventilating..
what is wrong with me!?
I feel so so sick..i could have done something very bad..
from now on I will be eating cold foods or using the george foreman unless dp is home....
pleaase ladies..slap me..I am so stupid!

babyonboard · 17/10/2005 16:41

and just to let you know how bad I am..I was smelling it slightly for ages, thinking what is that, why is it familiar!???????????
It is still all around the flat now..windows are wide open and I have a jumper on....

ChaCha · 17/10/2005 16:42

Oooooh! Cross posts!

BoB - Are you alright?!? What happened?

Karma - Howdy. Hope all is well. I got my bottle of Floradix in a shop called Boswells. I also called a few pharmacies beforehand in my area as the one by the surgery did not have it.
If you are struggling to find it, i'm sure I could send you a bottle. I am in the town centre again on Wednesday or Thursday so you can let me know.
I think the lady might have meant well but it's like you have a license to let anyone approach and comment on bump when you're pregnant. People just look at mine now as i've only recently started to really show.

ChaCha · 17/10/2005 16:45

BoB - Do you want me to call you? Are you okay? When is your DP home?

babyonboard · 17/10/2005 16:52

I am trying to calm down..but my god..how can I be responsible for a baby when I can do such a brain wrong....

I am quite miffed at not having 'bump' attention from strangers..the only thing recently was when I was in sainsburys buying nacho things...doritos, salsa, guacamole, chillis, mozarellla, olives..and a botle of limoncello for dp
and a guy behind said..'oh way to make sure your baby has a heart attack in middle age'...!?

babyonboard · 17/10/2005 16:55

cha cha..i have cat'ed you...

ChaCha · 17/10/2005 16:55

You seem okay now BoB - relaxed at least.
I have to go and prepare dinner now, hope that you'll be okay.

ChaCha · 17/10/2005 16:56

Another X post...okay. Will see if it's there.

ChaCha · 17/10/2005 16:58

Nothing as of yet. I would type my mobile number here but it's a bit dodgy.
Call your DP/neighbour/relative if you start feeling funny again.

babyonboard · 17/10/2005 16:59

don't worry if you are busy..
the only other person I can blah at is my mum and i already know she had a bad bad day at work and will stress loads if I call her and tell her what i did...

Enthusia · 17/10/2005 17:00

Ok, just woke up - wow, can't believe I went out like that, loads of dreams too. Am definitely having more baby dreams now!

Alfiesmum - sorry to hear your news, please feel free to moan away at us, I know I can get really caught up in my trivial whinges and go on and no one cares, this is a great place for support be it for the trivial (ie me ) or the more serious, sending you hugs!

BoB, I thought you said you lit the pilot light, how did the gas escape? Am I being Duuhhh now?

Diege good to hear from you, I think those librarians are going to become MN addicts too if you aren't careful - thanks for the advice, think I might go and scoff on malt loaf instead of choccy though. Oh and it feels sort of nice, but all at once in a sharp way - really weird to describe. Don't think I will put it as a leading sensation tip for the next Ann Summers book, put it that way!

Ok, tea and malt loaf now methinks

Byyeeeee

babyonboard · 17/10/2005 17:03

no idea..i guess as i lit the pilot light (and I left the oven at 7 when it wasn't working) it started sending out gas that wasn't lit...

Enthusia · 17/10/2005 17:08

Well I had no idea ovens could do that, I thought you had to stand over the oven prssing down knobs and buttons etc to get the gas to come out and then spark it. So I think if I were in your position I would have done the same. Let alone lighting the pilot light. How the hell do you do that, just about know where it is, have NEVER had to light one in my life!!!!!!!! Now you know why I cook with electric - I would be a danger to anyone in a 5 mile radius. You are doing better than me, don't worry. Think your fab!!!!!!!!

karmamother · 17/10/2005 17:19

LMAO at BoB! What an arse at the supermarket!

BTW, research has shown that pregnant women's brains actually shrink & stay that way until 6 moths after the birth. That shall be your defence, m'lud.

karmamother · 17/10/2005 17:20

oops, 6 months, not moths

ChaCha · 17/10/2005 18:04

Glad you're okay BoB. Have almost finished dinner a la discovery fajita sauce jar & accompaniments. DH should have been home by now but seems to be stuck at work so looks like dinner for one as I'm starving and really can't wait. Tortilla wraps, chicken & fries are really no good cold

I feel like my old self today. Even forget i'm PG from time to time, seems so strange after last week's pure exhaustion, aches and pains. I've said it before and i'll say it again, this pregnancy business is one heck of a rollercoaster!

Starving ChaCha x

I've been trying to catch up, but boy you ladies have been busy since saturday!

Back home now, DH cooking dinner and baby asleep, so I can fill you in on my very positive birth story...

Well, after I wrote on here I had a bath then went to the shop to get some paracetamol, as I thought that if I was in labour it would be ages before anything happened and I was determined that I was going to lunch!! Got back from the shop and went to the loo and saw that the leaky stuff was slightly blood stained, and the cramps were getting worse so called the hospital. The hospital asked me to go in for a check, so I called DH to let him know but told him not to worry about it and that they'd probably send me home again. Also tried to get hold of the friend who was staying with me who had gone out to Portobello, but she wasn't picking up her phone so had to leave and lock her out of the house.

Got to the hospital at about 10.45, I'd taken my bag with me 'just in case' but explained that I had lunch plans. They examined me and said I'd have to cancel the plans as I was 4 cms with one lot of waters gone and wasn't leaving without a baby. Called DH who was about 2 hours away, and managed to get hold of friend who came to the hospital and sat with me until DH arrived.

Managed to get to 6cms without any pain relief but then it all got a bit much so got a mobile epidural which was FABULOUS. At 4.30 they burst the main water sack and was ready to push by 5.30. I let the epidural wear off for the pushing as it was really hard to do it not being able to feel it. The actual baby coming out didn't hurt but the contractions certainly did!!

I had a managed third stage, but the cord came out without the placenta so I had to be given a lower body block so they could get their hands up there and whip it out. Apart from that blip the whole thing was great . No tears or stitches

Felt like I'd been beaten up the next day though, the locia was very heavy and the after pains are quite painful. Thankfully the hospital will take the baby into the nursery for you at night so that you can get some sleep so we were able to sort ourselves out. Couldn't have done it without DH.

Felt a bit emotional this morning, and still a bit worn out physically but it's good to be home.

Natalie is wonderful, I can't leave her alone and we are very guilty of holding her whenever we can. I love her smell. She looks just like her 3d scan pic.

Still a bit stunned that it all happened so early/ quickly. Even though I was quite prepared in advance there were still a few bits I hadn't got around to buying so DH had to do some running around yesterday and today.

I'll get off now, but I'll be back soon - I'm sure i'll remember some other details for you all.

It's sooooo great

JenJam · 17/10/2005 20:35
