TerrysNo2 · 10/12/2010 19:39

Sorry KLou, I wanted to add, that I didn't mean to say you shouldn't go to the docs, I was more reminscing about my first PG and how I did that, because I didn't know what else to do, and how nice it is to be PG for the first time and experience it all. I hope you don't think I was being a know it all!! Smile

littlemisslozza · 10/12/2010 20:28

I know what you mean Terrys, it's exciting being pregnant whichever pregnancy it is but especially so first time, the discovery of everything new.
I particularly missed the shopping second time round!! The only thing I needed really was a double pushchair, we already had everything else. Bought a few new clothes for DS2 and he had lots as presents, but it was also really nice re-using lots of DS1's clothes as newborn clothes hardly get worn out anyway.

By the way KLou at my doctors I have always gone to the GP first, they took BP and asked a few questions about lifestyle, no pregnancy test, then gave me some handheld notes to look after until the midwife's first appt (around 9/10 weeks here). I know that about a year ago there were posters in the drs surgery telling people to self refer to the midwives, but they have since disappeared and the website says nothing about it anymore. They brought in a new computerised system and changed things a lot but I've since discovered that it didn't work very well and may have been abandoned! I think I'll ring the drs surgery and ask as I'm not really sure what to do either! The other quite handy thing is getting the form to apply for your free prescription card, which includes the dentist, handy as I'm due an appt soon!

wheresmytractor · 10/12/2010 20:33

Hi Littlemisslozza,

It sounds like our situations are very similar. I have always wanted 3 kids, and am over the moon but am soooo nervous! I have no family so only my husbands parents who are 80 miles away. I'm sure it'll be fine after the first few weeks and life will settle down! How old are your boys? Are you hoping for a girl? I would welcome a girl but if I had a boy I would be just as pleased, the three amigos!

How were your other 2 pregnancies? I still don't feel sick yet, and not too tired but i'm sure i've got it all to come :)

Looking forward to sharing this all with you ladies x

littlemisslozza · 10/12/2010 20:44

Hi again wheresmytractor (love your usermane by the way, my boys are mad about tractors too)!

I've always wanted 3 or 4 too, although thinking that 3 will probably be enough!
I'm like you in thinking that 3 boys would be great fun, although I'd quite like to experience parenting a girl too. Can't choose and will love him or her regardless and be delighted to have a healthy baby, but know a lot of people will assume we were 'trying for a girl', will probably get sick of being asked, I know I did second time round! My two are 3.3 and 1.6. How old are yours?

I am starting to feel quite tired already, and a bit nauseous in the mornings. I had nausea every day until lunchtime with DS1, and a permanent headache, both until about 14 weeks. WIth DS2 I had worse nausea but only two or three days a week which was a bit random! No headaches thankfully.
Glad to hear you are feeling fine, long may it continue!

littlemisslozza · 10/12/2010 20:44

oops, userNAME!

wheresmytractor · 10/12/2010 21:04

Ha Ha yes littlemissLozza I was trying to think of a name and my eldest kept repeating "wheres my tractor mummy?" and hey presto! I feel totally the same as you on all counts, 3 will be plenty, girl would be nice but not craving it, and yes, so sick of the "oh well never mind" Angry comments when i knew I was expecting my second boy...Grrrr

Are you going to find out? Did you find out the last 2 times? I did both times and would kind of like to have a suprise this time, but on the other hand it will be better for my 2 to get them used to a new brother or sister so I will probably find out for them.

Mine are 2.10 and 1.4 so i'll have 3 under 4 and my whole maternity leave with 3 at home Confused Like I said before this little one (named fluff already) was wanted but a bit sooner than planned!

I'm off to bed soon as my littlest one is poorly with a virus been up the hospital all day under observation, so very tired

xx

littlemisslozza · 10/12/2010 21:07

oops DS2 is 1.4, I was thinking 16 months, not 1.6! DS2 will be 2 within days of this one arriving, then DS1 will be 4 about 3 weeks later.

We didn't find out with either of them and probably won't this time either.

Sleep well!

northeastmummy · 10/12/2010 21:20

Wow! I go for one night out last night and look what's happened when I get back on here ... a thread explosion! I've read all the posts but have lost track several times. SO good to meet everyone.

KLou ... the best news to see you on here! I haven't caught up with the other thread yet, will go there next. I knew you'd be ok Smile.

wheresmytractor and littlemisslozza, I'm also expecting my third and feel very much the same as you. In fact I can 100% relate to everything you've said, the only difference being that I have 2 girls. I'm sooooo excited ... but how on earth will it work? I have 2 friends who have had their 3rd this year so I'm watching them with great interest.

northeastmummy · 10/12/2010 21:22

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you earlier this year spiltthetea. Your advice is much appreciated and I will certainly be heeding it.

spilttheteaagain · 10/12/2010 22:09

Thanks northeast

It was just so shocking. In the pregnancy booklets they all say "get someone else to change the litter tray/use gloves as toxoplasmosis is nasty but nearly everyone's immune really". That is just not true.

In the UK only about 30% of people are immune so the rest are at risk. And actually it's most commonly caught from raw/rare meat rather than cat poo. This is because you have to actually ingest the parasite, not just touch it, and most people wash hands immediately after litter tray duty. You can kill the parasite by thorough cooking (more than 66 degrees C), so actually we've now twigged that handwashing chopping boards/knives that have been used for raw meat is not enough as you only handwash at about 45 degrees....

Dishwasher on order. Total paranoia in evidence!

Cadmum · 11/12/2010 00:10

Spiltthetea,

I am very sorry for your loss. How heartbreaking to think that it might have been preventable. I also appreciate your advice. In Canada (where our first two and forth) were born they test for toxoplasmosis antibodies and I came up positive so I didn't worry. But with my last pregnancy in Switzerland the test came back negative and we also lost our baby at 20 weeks. It seems very unlikely that an infection was the cause but it is making me think about how careful we are with meat especially since we live in Cambodia and do not have a dishwasher.

I feel dreadful with nausea, a headache and general exhaustion but then I do have 4 children and I am not getting any younger. My worst morning (all-day) sickness was with dd1. By 20 weeks, I had lost 12 lbs. I hope not to have a repeat performance.

Sorry for all those feeling rotten. Try and rest as much as possible and eat small amounts constantly to regulate blood sugar. Then at least you can know that you have tried your best whilst still feeling wretched!

lindy100 · 11/12/2010 04:28

Terrys lol at erect nibbles! Grin

We too have a cluster of birthdays - DD is 7/8, DH is 19/8 and this LO seems to be due 18/8.

I, on the other hand, have my birthdya in four weeks - everyone in my family will always have time and money to spend on me alone!

Am quite happy with summer babies and DH, as I will always be off work to make nice cakes and organise a joint party Wink.

Feeling quite crap. Nauseous, dizzy, tummy ache and indigestion. And it's only day 2 of knowing :( Last time I was signed off for about four weeks in total, before and after Christmas - am thinking I'll have to warn my boss, even though it's so early, as I'm doing quite well at school and don't want it to be thought I'm slacking off for no reason.

spilttheteaagain · 11/12/2010 06:52

Thanks Cadmum and I'm so sorry you too lost a baby so late.

I'm dreading the appearance of morning sickness (started at 5-5.5 weeks last time for me). I actually feel quite queasy now but it's only nervous excitement and will go away when I have a cup of tea. I wish the same could be said of pregnancy sickness!

Assuming all is going well, I will be telling my boss at the beginning of Jan at 7-8 weeks. This is because I was sick as a dog last time and wanted to be able to declare it all as pregnancy related sickness. Also I work with chemicals and do a load of physical work too so it'll be time to dust off and reactivate the Risk Assessment he did in August!

northeastmummy · 11/12/2010 08:34

Oh Cadmum, that's awful. Having children is such an amazingly wonderful happy thing to do, but can bring so much sadness with it Xmas Sad.

You are my hero by the way. 4 children and having another. I would have loved to have a big family but 3 is going to be our limit I think. And I'm looking forward to all your reassurance as I continue to panic about having another baby and how that all works!

In fact, here's a question. I have 2 girls just now and from time to time I get a good hour or so with just one of them. I love having chats with them and playing without distraction, it feels like I don't get many other opportunities otherwise to just get to know them really well. I'm worried that with a baby in the house, that'll all disappear and I'll miss something important! I work full time too which doesn't help.

I think my due date is going to fall around about or exactly on my birthday - 12th August. DD2 was born 2 days after DH's birthday and DD1 4 days before my Mum's so looks like we're having clusters of birthdays in this family.

WhenStNixgotstuckuptheChimney · 11/12/2010 08:34

Hello all, sorry for all the losses on here, i MC last pg in Aug and been ttc ever since. Currently 5+4 and the nausea has just kicked in... Whoop bring it on! The sicker i feel the better :)

Catch up properly later x

(congrats to all the bfps)

MrsBB1982 · 11/12/2010 10:39

Uh oh. Had some spotting yesterday - just old brown blood and not much. Feel OK otherwise and no bleeding since. Spoke to the GP who wasn't too concerned if it settled.

How much should I worry?

littlemisslozza · 11/12/2010 10:51

MrsBB1982 I have experienced bleeding in all my pgs, brown blood shouldn't be anything to worry about. I even had some bright red blood when I was about 6-7weeks og with DS2, but that settled down, very scary though. Even if you do get some red blood it doesn't necessarily mean it is all over, but would you need to get checked out, ring the gp and they should make an appt for an early scan.

lindy your DD and my DS2 share the same birthday exactly! 07/08/09, what a cool date!

spiltthetea sorry to hear of your loss, I will take your advice on board. DH is a farmer but we don't have sheep thankfully, but I'm always really careful.

Hi to everyone else too.

MrsBB1982 · 11/12/2010 10:59

Thanks littlemisslozza
My DH is being very supportive and keeps trying to make me feel better. But really all I want is to see 'Bumpy' (our name for our bean) and know it's OK. But I'm only approx 5+6 so probably won't see much on a scan anyway.
Was going to tell family at Christmas but now not sure I want to until I've seen Bumpy is ok.
Just feeling miserable :(

northeastmummy · 11/12/2010 14:17

It's so worrying BB1982 isn't it? littlemissloza is right though, brown blood is old so should be nothing to worry about. Maybe with everything getting organised in there, it's dislodged something that was hanging around?

I had red blood with my first pregnancy and it turned out to be a graze on my uterus. There are just so many things it could be. It's definitely not something you should worry about alone though. If it does get too much, make sure you call your GP again x

Waverley82 · 11/12/2010 14:56

Congrats to all the new people!

I had my work christmas party last night, first real night out since not drinking and it went ok. My DH works at the same firm so he was there and just got him to get me my drinks all night (tonic with a bit of lime squeezed in - surprisingly nice!). Don't think anyone would have noticed altho we did leave quite early for us - usually in last group standing... I was just shattered and feeling a bit faint at some points, prob just the heat and tiredness. Probably not surprising given every other night this week I have been sound asleep long before ten!

Anyone else got big events coming up that they can't really be bothered with?!

Also ended up telling the other partner I work for yesterday, he was in the middle of giving me some work when felt really I'll and basically just ran out the door - cringe... Anyway as soon as I started to explain he just said yeah I know, it was fairly obvious Blush

He was very supportive tho and seemed quite pleased, guess it's as well that they know for any future vomming episodes...!

Waverley82 · 11/12/2010 14:59

Oh and MrsBB I had that too a few weeks ago and was also terrified but am reassured by how many people have had it and been ok - think it really is quite common. Mine has stopped now and I'm making a conscious effort to relax and stop thinking about all the what ifs - I want to try and enjoy this first pregnancy rather than be on edge all the time but I know it's so hard, especially with the first (think it is your first too yeah?)

Georgimama · 11/12/2010 15:33

Afternoon all! I haven't been MNing much this week as so shattered I've been going to bed at about 8pm. Hope everyone is well and beans are nice and sticky.

You cracked and told work waverley! I'm dreading telling work as I will be the third member of the department on maternity leave (a department of five!) and I don't think my childless boss is going to take it very well....

Not that many symptoms apart from the tiredness and some crampy feelings down below which send me scurrying to the loo to check - nothing amiss so far touch wood. 6+4 today and booked in with midwife for 31/12 and private scan at bupa hospital on 29/12. No mention when I phoned to book with MW about a 12 week scan so either she books it in at quite short notice, or I don't get one. Ho hum.

coastgirl · 11/12/2010 15:53

We went out for a Christmas meal last night - stuck to water all night as I find soft drinks too sweet and sticky to drink much of so it was a super-cheap night! DH has mostly stopped drinking too in support so it didn't look too obvious. We had coffee as part of the meal and he went and had a word in the waiter's ear to subtly get me decaff - only for it to arrive in a really obviously different cafetiere! I just said I can't drink caffeine in the evening or it keeps me awake...the good thing is, after a few drinks nobody else notices what you're doing.

Don't other people seem to drink a lot when you can't drink? I know we can have a glass of wine every now and then but I don't like the thought of doing that at all. I think I might have one little drink on Christmas Day (mmm, Baileys!) but I like staying sober actually.

Georgimama · 11/12/2010 16:10

I went on my Christmas do on Wednesday night and you're right, people get absolutely rat arsed. Frankly I'd usually be one of the worst offenders. And they certainly don't notice you not drinking when they've had a few, they barely notice anything!

coastgirl · 11/12/2010 16:13

Oh yeah, normally I'd be sinking them with the best! It was when someone mentioned feeling drunk after "two glasses of wine" when I'd been sitting opposite here and knew full well it was 3 250ml glasses of wine, aka a whole bottle, that I realised how well people deceive themselves when drinking! Oh well, I've done it myself and I will no doubt do it again some time...
