lol Betty you'll be fine. Although I think BF in a wedding dress would be comical, in a good way of course!! :)

nickstermum · 07/01/2011 21:33

spilt am sure its nothing, but contact your epu if you feel concerned.

LittleBeaut · 07/01/2011 21:52

Evening ladies!!

I had a miscarriage a few years ago... one of the worst experiences of my life, and had I not already had my two boys I dont know how I would have coped. Keeping it together for them was defo the best thing I did! So I do feel and understand how everyone that is worried, and has a history of miscarriage is feeling at such early stages. This maybe the last thing you want to hear but I feel really positive about my pregnancy this time - dont know why I just do!!

As for the morning sickness sufferes I had it really bad in my first pregnany, full 9 months (dont want to scare you!), and one of the best things the doctor at the hospital told me was to get an egg cup and only drink that amount of juice every 10 minutes or so and no big gulping drinks down... does work. And the other thing that I eventually did was only eat foods of one kind, if I ate chips I just had chips, if I ate chicken I just ate chicken. I know gross but... if foods are not 'mixed' they dont taste as gross coming back up Blush

Hope I didnt scare anyone xx

MrsVidic · 08/01/2011 10:36

Hi ladies!

BettyBoo83 I bfed my dd until she was 11 months and I really wouldn't worry if your dress doesn't let you bfeed- as long as its easy to get off- you could express and give her a bottle or just go up to your room at the hotel to do it. To be honest- I really worried when I was pg with my dd about clothes and what I could and couldn't bfeed in and to be honest you can breast feed in most things- if you have been doing it for 4 months (like you will have by your wedding you'll be a pro at the nipple hide and latch on!

I am trying to increase my iron intake as my midwife is worried I'm anemic- does anyone know if being anemic harms the baby?

spilttheteaagain · 08/01/2011 10:43

MrsVidic my understanding is that anaemia will make you feel tired and crap. And that they like to get your iron levels up nice and high in pregnancy in anticipation of the blood loss at and after delivery. Anaemia can I think be a risk factor for premature labour and some other things. Def worth working on your iron levels mainly because you will have more energy and feel better for it! Do you know what your haemogloblin reading is?

spilttheteaagain · 08/01/2011 10:45

Vitamin C will help your body absorb iron so take your iron supplements with some orange juice or an orange/kiwi or something. Dairy and tannins (in tea) inhibit iron absorption so try to avoid having tea or dairy for about an hour either side of taking iron pills/eating steak/spinach.

LouBeee · 08/01/2011 11:02

Have you tried Spatone? It's an iron supplement in liquid sachets in an orange box from boots or other chemists. You take 1 or 2 sachets diluted in some fruit juice. I found it loads easier to digest than the tablets, which gave me really bad stomach ache.

MrsChemist · 08/01/2011 14:33

I was diagnosed with anaemia with DS. If you're on iron supplements, eat a lot of fruit and veg. It can make you constipated (something I suffered from during pregnancy anyway) which is just one less thing you need to be worrying about.

yy to taking supplements with fruit juice.

I've got to wait until next Thursday for the MW to phone me and arrange an appointment, which will most likely be for the Thursday after Hmm. She is the hardest MW to get hold of, and appointments are only available on Thursday mornings. She is a lovely MW though. Considering she's been a MW for quite a while now, she is as giddy as a school girl when she hears heartbeats on the doppler etc. You can tell she absolutely adores her job.

sleepyowl · 08/01/2011 14:40

Anyone got suggestions for the best place to go to get properly fitted for a maternity bra. Tried Mothercare and don't know why I bothered. Lovely lady measured me (she really was very sweet) and proceeded to tell me I needed a 34B. Hmmm... as I am normally a 32DD this was something of a surprise. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and tried on a couple (by this time she was long gone, so it was hardly a fitting service anyway) and of course they were too big round the middle and far, far too small on the cup. At which point I walked out in disgust. I normally go to Bravissimo for bras but they don't have much of a range of maternity bras... only three different ones. So if anyone can tell me where they went I'd be very interested.

dundeemarmalade · 08/01/2011 14:50

sleepyowl prepare to be pretty disappointed by nursing/maternity bras in general, I'm afraid. It's better to get yourself fitted by somebody competent i.e. Bravissimo and work on it from there. And there is no physiological requirement to abandon the underwires providing that your boobs fit into the bra properly and aren't squashed at the sides. I'm still wearing my very posh prima donna u/wired ones from last pregnancy - properly fitted and give me the support I need at 32H Blush. Am going to try converting my normal bras to feeding ones when the time comes...

When you're further one, about 34 weeks say, can be a good time to get a local NCT bra fitter to come and see you - think you can find them via nct website or phone up from the catalogues they do.

In fact, in sizes above d/dd/e cup there aren't that many other options - really only royce (pretty grim but can be supportive), hotmilk (v. pretty but a bit floppy), anita (okay), bravado (often a favourite, quite modern but not hugely supportive), nct (own range used to be hideous but good range of support and sizes).

Sorry to be depressing - i long for somebody to appear on dragons den with a fantastic new maternity/nursing bra solution for the generously endowed!

spilttheteaagain · 08/01/2011 14:52

I have just cheered myself up a lot. I have been fretting for weeks now about having another missed miscarriage and finding out at a scan. But I've done a bit of digging and they reckon that MMC only occur in about 1% of pregnancies, and actual MC in about 20% with the majority happening by 6 weeks.

So that is reassuring I think (I hope!). Chances are if I MC I will at least know about it.

Phew.

All seems to be ok here again thankfully, the scrap of blood yesterday has not been repeated thank goodness so I can give the EPU a miss for now.

Hope everyone else is doing ok x

CappuccinoCarrie · 08/01/2011 14:58

sleepyowl perhaps see if Bravado have a stockist near you?
There's an independent maternity shop in our city that does bras for the more generously norked (sadly not a problem I have!), perhaps there's one of those near you, rather than a chain store?

mrsvidic I had ferrous fumerate iron tablets rather than ferrous sulphate, and didn't get the constipation, could be worth asking for those instead if you need more iron? (the 'ferrious' is the iron bit, the other bit is just what its mixed with). I know my iron readings will be up the swanny as I've been on iron since April, so the MW will think I'm fine but actually I'll beg her for a repeat prescription!

Had another lovely lunch of pie and mash and gravy Blush
Its a good thing I've not gone off coffee as I went to a baby shower in a coffee shop this morning!

spilttheteaagain · 08/01/2011 15:28

Wow you are enjoying your pies Cap!

KLou111 · 08/01/2011 17:17

You've made me want pie now Cappuccino!! I am loving mash at the moment, as it's easy to get down I think, but pie....ooooooooo.

I have shepherd's 'pie' for dinner, so that will have to do for now, although there is a tasty chicken pie in the fridge now looking more appealing :)

Anyone else addicted to fruit salad (sour fruits), or jelly? Not had jelly for years, now can't get enough of it!!

MrsVidic · 08/01/2011 17:43

thanks for all advice on iron intake. I'll pop to the chemist tomorrow. I have had a humous on toast mega craving day, i love it so much. I took my dd for a run in her pram, its a running one and she got really upset half a mile from home so i ended up carrying her and pushing the pram so i'm shattered now. She has however been pushing her doll in her pram ever since though. for maternity bra's i found hot milk fab, elle mc only for smaller boobs and mothercare awful

cjdamoo · 08/01/2011 17:47

any ideas on how to get rid of the permenent nasty taste in my mouth? Its driving me spare!

KLou111 · 08/01/2011 17:57

I just ate chewing gum all the time cj, not a lot you can do I found

kathpeak · 08/01/2011 18:42

Hi all!
Having a good day? Not bad here since I got my wrist bands.
@MrsVidic re: iron def. I have had difficulty with my iron levels since my teens. The easiest way to monitor your own levels is to look in the mirror and pull down your lower eyelid slightly the inner skin should be a healthy rosy pink. If it is pale you need to up your iron intake.
The best food that I have found for increasing my iron is a mild chili con carne. Minced beef for meat derived iron, mixed beans for vegetable derived iron and tomatoes for vitamin C that helps absorption.

@sleepyowl re: bras. There may not be a lot of choice in the maternity bra options but at least you're not greeted with sentiments like "why would you need a bra?" or "have you tried the training bras in the teen section?". They just don't make any maternity/nursing bras for AA cup size. I had to sew my own last time.

dundeemarmalade · 08/01/2011 19:06

re. wrist bands - found mine from last time the other day but cannot for life of me remember whether the nobbly bit goes on thumbs side or little finger side of inside of wrist. have tried both but still feel grimmer than grim...

kathpeak · 08/01/2011 19:46

re: wrist bands. On mine the button goes on the inside of the wrist between the 2 tendons, 3 finger widths from the edge of your hand.

dundeemarmalade · 08/01/2011 19:53

nickstermum · 08/01/2011 20:43

STILL CANNOT STOMACH CHOCOLATE!

:(

damn and buggeration!

Mrs vidic, baby takes what it needs but its mummy that suffers re the iron. Spatone is good x

Leilandri · 09/01/2011 02:02

NICKSTERMUM I am with you on the not being able to stomach chocolate - soooo depressing.
Given loads for Xmas, as had told the family about Baby2, so they swapped all my alcohol for chocs, and now can't eat that either, my DH is having a field day!! :(
Apart from sweet things, especcially choc, I can't seem to stop eating tho! With my DS I was sick for the first 23 weeks, and then he got so big so fast that my stomach was crushed for the remainder and 1/2 a banana would fill me up. This baby though is taking the phrase "eating for two" to a whole new level. Shock
Everyone is telling me that this one is a girl as I'm so different to my last pregnancy. Has anyone else had this - two extremely different pregnancies, and what were the results - different sex children? Also anyone else out there extremely hungry and worried about taking on house sized proportions before long?! Blush

Yukana · 09/01/2011 09:49

Hello again everyone.

I know how you feel Nick and Leil. I used to like chocolate and now I feel like I've just gone off the stuff. Even looking at it makes me feel nauseous.

On another note - Muller Light Vanilla yoghurt seems to be a saint for my hunger/nausea.

Also, a little TMI below here Blush, but I'm worried:

I seem to be getting mild kind of throbbing pain coming from my lower stomach, it's not all the time though - (Rarely is the pain sharp, and it doesn't last long, a second or two). But to be honest I'm not really sure whether it's coming from my lower stomach or erm, vagina, either. However, I have been getting a massive build up of wind. Blush And unable to well, expel it. I do get pain from trapped wind and I do feel quite bloated at times. Just wondering if this is something I should worry about, or if others have the same problem?

I've asked my grandmother and she said I shouldn't worry, but for reason I'm unable to stop worrying!

bettyboo83 · 09/01/2011 10:20

Leilandri I'm with you on the constant eating - ironically it's the only thing that helps my nausea! I'm trying to graze on fruit and things but my brain is just shouting carbs, cheese, crisps...!!! At how many weeks is it acceptable to start wearing maternity clothes??? Hmm xxx
