Annie456 · 27/12/2010 22:30

joining the club too! I'm 4+5 with an EDD of Aug 31st / 1st Sept...a little shocked as it's our first cycle of TTC! Shock

this is my first pregnancy so I'm a little anxious about all the little aches and pains (is it growing pains / cramping / trapped wind / what does it mean?!)

what are anyones cramping levels like at this stage? is it normal every now and then?

littlemisslozza · 28/12/2010 10:53

Congratulations Annie! A little bit of mild cramping is quite common, I think it's the embryo embedding deeper into the uterus lining if I remember correctly.

spilttheteaagain · 28/12/2010 10:55

Morning Annie congratulations Smile

My experience so far is that the worst "period pains" I have had have been both times I got pregnant. I'm 6+2 now and still having heavy stomach times and crampiness but not all the time.

I think it's a variety of things - implantation, the womb lining thickening up, the womb stretching, other things inside being squashed/starting to move. It is alarming though I know!

RugbyWidow7 · 28/12/2010 13:37

Hello everyone,

Sorry for going underground for a while. I spent a night in hospital on 23rd Dec, as I had bleeding which gradually got worse. My DH was four hours away and when the ambulance didn't arrive in time ( as I was not priority) he managed to get a train back to take me to A&E, then the maternity ward in the middle of the night. The bleeding slowed though and I am still (thankfully) pregnant. I was a bit weak and delicate for a while and have been told to take it easy. I think I did too much what with the house move. Pretty shaken but so happy that things seem to be back on track now and I'm feeling fairly 'normal' again.

I'm so sorry to hear your news Northeast and Terrys.

It's certainly a worrying process this preg business, esp these first few weeks!

RugbyWidow7 · 28/12/2010 13:46

FTR - I feel absolutely exhausted. Has anyone else been knocked sideways?

spilttheteaagain · 28/12/2010 15:02

Wow RugbyWidow that sounds like you've been having a horrible scary time and thank goodness your bean is still safe in there.

Yes I too am shattered. I'm not surprised, it was like this last time. Also very nauseous, getting worse every day.

Current pattern seems to be wake up v.nauseous at 6.30am. Doze/sip water/sit next to loo/try a cup of tea or fruit until about midday. Feel better so get up, shower, have lunch and then collapse on sofa feeling knackered. Mid afternoon nap. Bed early. Repeat.

Thankfully I'm not working this week so I can be this lazy, but come next Tues it will be a different matter!

MrsVidic · 28/12/2010 15:22

another vote here for feeling knocked sideways. it was like this last time but its harder with a toddler. i'm going for a run tomorrow as the gym really helps me. my morning sickness seems to have faded but i think its partly because i'm constantly nibbling. i have also found if i eat half my usual portions i don.t feel too bloated.

Annie456 · 28/12/2010 17:01

Thanks for the reassurance about the cramping...it's less scary to know that others have felt the same thing.

My current dilemma is that I have a transvaginal scan booked for week 8 - it's a follow up scan to some cyst investigations I was having a few months ago. I've not yet told the hospital that I'm pregnant (i will) but do you think the scan will be safe? I'm keen to have the scan as it will be a good opportunity to see whether theres 1 heartbeat or 2(!!!) but not if it will put the bean at risk...any thoughts on this?

spilttheteaagain · 28/12/2010 17:07

Is it ultrasound? They do do internal ultrasound scans when women are newly pregnant so I would have thought it would be ok, but maybe phone first to check?

sparkle101 · 28/12/2010 17:21

Good evening ladies,

Not here to join but here to congratulate you all. Am a graduate of August 2010 with PFB. I remember all the symtpoms well and I really do feel for all of you with morning sickness/heartburn/lethargy etc etc. It does get easier and it will pass! Promise Smile

Many congratulations and here's to problem free pregnancies and coughing for the baby to come out!

Good luck!

Annie456 · 28/12/2010 17:29

Yeah it's an internal ultrasound....MIL said "no way" which is what scared me but I had read that you can have them early on. I guess I could elect to have a normal ultrasound but would that show anything at 8 weeks?

spilttheteaagain · 28/12/2010 18:49

I think they usually try the external scanner first and then if the image isn't good enough/hard to find they use the internal one. I think whether they need to use internal depends on how good the technology is, what shape your uterus is, your size (BMI) that sort of thing. Check with them but I'm sure it would be fine.

Thanks sparkle that's really lovely of you. Hope you're enjoying your little one.

wheresmytractor · 28/12/2010 19:59

Hi Ladies,
northeastmummy and Terrys I am really sorry to hear your news...

I am just wondering if anyone elses symptoms come and go? I woke this morning with no queasy tummy and a really bad back ache. Have had an awareness of my lower abdomen all day and the backache is still bad. I always get a backache before my period Sad

Been fearing the worse, wondering if you can ever tell if you have a missed miscarriage? I had a miscarriage when I was a ditzy 19 year old and never even knew I was pregnant,so have no memorable experience of it.... any thoughts/advice welcome

RockinRobinBird · 28/12/2010 20:55

Hi all

I haven't really posted much here as I've been really ill and tbh that's taken my mind completely off being pg. I just wondered if anyone else has had no symptoms at all? With DD I was as sick as a dog from 6 weeks. Now at nearly 8 weeks I've had no sickness. I know each pg is different but I'm a very sicky person generally, travel sickness etc so I fully expected to feel rotten. (.)(.) are mildly uncomfortable but nothing major and I am knackered but that's more than likely because I've been so ill.

On top of that, I've taken so many antibiotics etc (drs all know I'm pg) and I've read that having a temp and low oxygen saturation is bad for baby.

I don't want to start contacting the EPU or anything as I'm pretty overweight so not sure what a scan would show this early. I just wondered if having no symptoms was really unusual.

sisterT · 28/12/2010 21:13

I am pretty much symptom-free too; occasionally tired but I have a 16month-old & its Christmas. I had no morning sickness with DS so am not too worried but do remember my bra size soaring 3cups almost overnight and have to check I'm not wandering round jiggling in public, checking for the increase this time!!!

CappuccinoCarrie · 28/12/2010 22:47

annie I believe the internal scans are a normal way of getting a view of your uterus while its still in the pelvic cavity (before about 12weeks) and has been nicknamed 'dildocam' You have been warned! I had one to investigate cysts back in April and it wasn't too uncomfortable.

The sickness hit out of nowhere yesterday, but eating mini cheddars has really helped. Also the crazy blue veins on my chest and boobs have reappeared. Still staying with my parents, can't wait to get home and dig out my maternity bras, my boobs will thank me!

The cramping died down around week 5 for me, but it was horrendous at that start. I've had a few random sharp pains but I think they're muscular (I hope anyway!)

Bed time :)

Sorry to hear your news terrys, and sorry that you have been through a bad time, RugbyWidow.

Congratulations and welcome to Annie!

I am now going through a horrible phase of feeling sick and tired all the time. I'm findng I have to be nibbling on something all the time to keep the sickness at bay! Yesterday I spent the entire afternoon lying on the floor, with my DS coming to give me hugs and kisses intermittently - it was very sweet!

spilttheteaagain · 29/12/2010 08:16

First puking session done and thank goodness. I feel much better for it... for now!

lilac sorry you are feeling so rubbish. It's miserable.

Annie456 · 29/12/2010 09:47

yes sorry you're not having a good time lilac. Ive just hit week 5 so hoping my cramping and back ache let's up soon! nausea has started so I'm definitely feeling more pregnant!

I think I will call the hospital today and see what they think about the scan - thanks for the warning "Carrie", I had one a few months ago and your description did make me chuckle! (btw, you can add age 28, London to my listing).

Annie456 · 29/12/2010 09:49

Georgimama · 29/12/2010 12:28

Morning guys, so sorry to hear of all those who have had bad news.

I've been for private scan today and all is well, measuring right for dates, strong fast heartbeat, yolk sac etc all present and correct. Have been told to get swine flu vaccine but I can't because there isn't any in our whole PCT, and apparently can't get it privately from a pharmacy because they won't give it to pregnant women.

lilacblossom · 29/12/2010 13:03

Congratulations AddictedToCoffee!

Georgimama, can't believe your local pharmacies won't give you the flu vaccine - it sends out mixed messages, doesn't it, when it's been on the news that pregnant women should get vaccinated. I'm having mine tomorrow - my husband's a doctor and insisted on it so I have no worries about it whatsoever and would hate to get the flu! And so glad your scan went well.

Thanks to all for the sympathy about sickness. Am tucking into a stuffed crust pizza as I type, which has miraculously taken the nausea away...
