Lilac JenniL1977- that's great news! Good on you! Christmas will be much more enjoyable for you now. I felt the most enormous sense of relief after my scan - although OH did express a certain amount of disappointment that there was only one in there - he he!!

mrsmunchkinbox · 23/12/2010 13:45

So excited - just had my booking appointment with the midwife - expecting 1st baby (long awaited baby)on 1st August 2011 (although might change slightly with dating scan as she seemed a little unsure of dates).

now have so much to take in and despite having a very early scan at 5 weeks it doesn't quite seem real!

Congratulations everyone! :)

LifeOfKate · 23/12/2010 13:53

Great news lilac :o

Shame there's only 1 in there Jenni, is it weird that I am secretly hoping for twins?! Blush Logistically it wouldn't be great (I'd end up with 3 under 2), I think it's because originally DH wasn't fussed about having kids and I wanted 4, so we have compromised on 2, so this would be my way of sneaking an extra one in through no fault of my own Wink :o I have no reason to think it is though, never mind!

Talking of exercise, when I was about 35 weeks pregnant with DS, I went out for dinner with DH's work colleagues and sat opposite one man who asked me in all seriousness if I had been able to keep up with my exercise regime Confused I think he was actually quite offended when I literally laughed out loud Blush :o

IamMrsJones · 23/12/2010 13:59

BrownB So so sorry. x

Lilac Glad to hear your news.

Teladi · 23/12/2010 14:08

So happy for you, lilac, that's fantastic news.

I'm the same as you, CappuccinoCarrie, at 5 weeks, my stomach is rumbling a lot and I'm getting spotty like a teenager, but that's the sum total of my symptoms so far. I should probably be glad that I'm not being sick all the time but I am a compulsive knicker-checker for the moment as a result.

I did call and get my appointments booked with the midwife today though, apparently I have to go once at 8 weeks, and then again at 9 weeks, the 9 week one will be my 'booking' appointment. Does anyone know what the first one would be for? I was so busy writing it down I forgot to ask.

Firawla · 23/12/2010 14:44

oh thats good atleast im not the only one who doesnt feel like doing anything, might just force myself and do today (still undecided) but really cant b bothered to keep going every week.

i hope someone on this thread does have twins that would be cool, good luck to those who want them. my mum keeps telling me "ohh it might be twins" because we have them in the family (i am one myself) but i doubt it will be. i would end up with 4 kids and oldest one would have only just turned 3 so not ideal really!

teladi dont know what your 8 week apt would be, ive never been to the midwife before booking in? i guess just go along and see maybe the system is different everywhere

WhenStNixgotstuckuptheChimney · 23/12/2010 15:02

Teladi, i booked in with my MW at 6 weeks where they just filled out all the paperwork, then the one at 9 weeks is where they take your bloods etc etc and thats an hour long apt... listen to hb etc... i think!

for us anyway!

KLou111 · 23/12/2010 15:31

Great news lilac you can relax now :)

Strange they want to have 2 appointments teladi as you'd think they can just do whatever they need to in the one.

Yes, exercise, hmmmmmmm, I walk the dog when he can be arsed to go out (or if we drag him out) as he doesn't like the cold!! Does that count?

Teladi · 23/12/2010 15:54

Thanks ladies. StNix that sounds like a likely scenario. I will just show up and see I think, but like you said, KLou111, I was just a bit surprised I need to have two separate appointments at this stage... time away from work etc. My work will be fine about it anyway but I can see myself trying to be a bit of an overachiever in the coming weeks, knowing that I will (hopefully) have to tell them at some point that I'll be going on maternity leave.

MrsVidic · 23/12/2010 16:59

well i went to the gym today as i went right up until my due date with dd 1 and had no problem shedding the baby weight or aching from carrying her. however as i always feel so ill in my first 16 weeks i tone it down and only go about 3 times a week where as usually i go 4 times. mind you i am quite a fitness freak though lol!

littlemisslozza · 23/12/2010 17:10

Seeing as I've got two DCs already I'm not hoping for twins although I realise that the idea of two at once can appeal, especially if you have had trouble conceiving. The reason being that a friend of mine had twins last year (2nd and 3rd children) and I hadn't realised how much the risks increase in multiple pregnancy until then. Everything was going swimmingly until about 30 weeks then one stopped growing and they both had to be induced at 35 weeks. When they were born one was twice the size of the other and they both went straight to special care, where the little one remained for 3 weeks. Now ok, although little one is still much smaller and behind developmentally, they don't know why he stopped growing, it wasn't twin-to twin tranfusion or anything. The worry about the health of the twins has certainly taken away my previously romantic view of having them! I realise not twins have such problems but the risks increase a lot more than I had previously thought.

spilttheteaagain · 23/12/2010 17:30

BrownB so sorry to hear your news x

Teladi they do that here as well - you have a "prebooking in" appointment and then the "booking in" one. The purpose of the pre booking here is just to have a little chat really, work out dates, give you the notes and ask you to go home and complete what you can/find out any family history ready to discuss at booking in. They also give you the leaflets that explain about various testing and what scans/check ups you can expect and when. The idea then being that you can read/think about it all and come to the booking appointment with questions etc.

We then don't get routine bloods actually done until the 12 week scan.

It varies wildly from area to area.

Can't remember who was talking about it but we don't get nuchal scans on the NHS here. The 12 week scan is known as the "dating scan" and it's sole purpose is to check your dates and check how many babies. (Please just one!)

Been feeling a bit bleurgh today which is a hopeful sign, but I don't feel anything remotely like I did last time which was grim grim grim. So that in itself is making me a bit nervous. Also had the tiniest dot of blood once today (literally like a pinprink on the loo roll) which was terrifying. All seems well now though, no more so hopefully not a problem.

I'd forgotten what a bag of nerves early pregnancy reduces you too.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 23/12/2010 17:48

Well I've arranged my booking apt with the M/W now that I'm officially 8 weeks Grin and it's next Wednesday, but have I now jinxed it? The last time, bad things started the day after I made the appointment - tell me to pull myelf together!!! Grin

Firawla · 23/12/2010 19:00

mrs vidic you're so good, i really have to try and be like you. i am gonna go tonight just waiting for my dh to come back to be with kids but really dont feel like it so just forcing myself

littlemisslozza yeah that is what would worry me too more risk of complications and everything, although loads of twins are fine and healthy but i think risk of csection is definitely higher and low birth weights and all that. hope your friends twins are okay now

WhenStNixgotstuckuptheChimney · 23/12/2010 19:14

Spilt its so nerve wracking... the brownish CM i had on monday was literally with me holding the tissue up to the light, squinting up close,,,, but it was def tinged!!!! Was enough to send me flying down to the GP;s! Hideousness... that day i had an awful lot of cramping....hers hoping it was burrowing at on the dot 7 weeks!! Just getting comfy!

If i wont tell you that.... I know exactly where you are at.... but will say, try not to panic honey.... am sur it will be fine xx

I bawled earlier after i booked my 8 week scan, which is now going to be 9 weeks as the hosp is closed between christmas and NY...terrified of having one since my MC was revealed at the scan.... feel like i have accomplished something by booking it!!

WhenStNixgotstuckuptheChimney · 23/12/2010 19:17

Wouldnt mind twins, but having 3 kids under 4 .....mmmm i just want there to be 'a baby' in there this time, not just some stoopid empty sac....... FX x

davidtennantsmistress · 23/12/2010 19:24

jspark123 · 23/12/2010 20:17

Hi everyone, I would like to join please.
I am about 7 weeks on, with an EDD of 1st August according to GP, and my 1st pregnancy. Not really had many symptoms so far, just sore boobs and mild cramping earlier on, should not complain really! My Mum said she did not really have many symptoms either.
Congrats to everyone, and Merry Christmas x x

BrownB - so sorry to hear that, hope you are being well looked after.

Lilac - that's great news, glad to hear it :)

Some crazy part of me would like twins but know that's a bad idea, I'm too overweight already and would be just another risk factor.

And exercise - I'm afraid I'm with the "what's that?" brigade!

davidtennantsmistress · 24/12/2010 08:22

LifeOfKate · 24/12/2010 11:52

DTM - yes, I am feeling different this pregnancy and sometimes feeling sick and sometimes not. My midwife friend has reassured me that it's normal and that every pregnancy can be different - apparently she got no sickness in one pregnancy and then throwing up for 24 weeks with the other!

Hope everyone's ok and has a lovely day tomorrow, happy christmas everybody Xmas Grin
