So sorry to hear about your scan result batgirl
FX for a better 2011

Seeing my folks on Thursday and DHs folks on Friday so telling them then. We're both working Christmas Day & Boxing Day :(

northeastmummy · 21/12/2010 18:22

I told my Mum today! I felt bad because I'd told a few friends and hated the thought that they knew before her. She's pretty realistic about things and I would definitely want her to know if something went wrong so it's all good. She was very happy ... but not as excited as with the other two. I think it's just old news Xmas Smile.

This thread is full of highs and lows right now. I suppose that's quite typical of an early thread. I'm so sorry the news wasn't better batgirl and lilac, will be thinking about you tomorrow.

And welcome sixer10. Glad to hear you got a scan and all was well.

I have the midwife tomorrow. I'm quite excited about making it official but very aware that it'll be a bit of a non event. Hopefully it'll generate a scan date through the post, although with it being Christmas I expect there might be a delay. I'd like to get a nuchal scan so need to remember to ask the midwife about that. It's not been offered to me as standard before now although I think there might have been a change since my last time.

RugbyWidow7 · 21/12/2010 18:28

So sorry Batgirl. That's the worst news.

We're planning to tell parents Thurs and Sat when we see them - first grandchild for both, so hoping for good reactions.

I've booked to have the flu jab tomorrow morning. DH rang and said he's starting to feel unwell so I thought I'd better get it quickly before I see him on Thurs. Worried I'll be ill with it over Xmas, but fingers crossed for no reaction to it!

Has anyone had any experiences with having the flu jab during pg?

WhenStNixgotstuckuptheChimney · 21/12/2010 19:42

Rugby don't you have to wait until after 12 weeks for flu jab? I know that's the case for swine flu!

Going to try and book an 8 week scan for in between Christmas and new year, daren't before Christmas in case it's bad news!

Ekka · 21/12/2010 20:26

Apparently you don't have to wait till 12 weeks, according to the webchat with David Salisbury (see the mn home page for the link)

I'm going to call the docs tomorrow and book myself in for it too after reading the information on that webchat and everything else.

LifeOfKate · 21/12/2010 21:04

RugbyWidow - I had the jab in late pregnancy with DS last year, no ill effects for either of us :)
Am also going to look into getting it after reading webchat now :)

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 21/12/2010 21:10

Evening ladies. so sorry to hear your news batgirl. I can't believe how many of you have seen MWs or are due to or have had scans - I doubt I'll get to see my MW till the new year.

littlemisslozza · 21/12/2010 21:13

Hi all

Firstly I'm sorry to hear your bad news batgirl and hope things will be ok for you lilac.

Welcome to all the new people too, congratulations!

I had my booking in appt with the GP today, he filled in a form to send to the midwife who will contact me in the new year. They are doing things differently from last time so it will be interesting to see what happens with appointments this time. They used to take my bp, weigh me, measure height and ask quite a few questions but none of that yet.

I had my flu jab while I was there, had really deliberated about it but it is not a live vaccine so I decided to go for it. The GP said that if his wife was pg he would want her to have it, although that didn't sway my decision. The live webchat on here was very reassuring too. I'm also thinking that there have been women who are asthmatic or have other medical conditions that will have had the flu jab for years when pg with no ill effect to them or the baby. FOr some reason pregnant women are particularly susceptible to swine flu and they don't totally understand why, although I'm sure the suppressed immune system doesn't help.

We will be telling close family over the next week or so, my mum and dad already know and are very excited, we're with the in-laws on Christmas day so we'll tell them then. Funnily enough we also did that in 2006 and 2008 when expecting our first two!! It's getting to be a pattern! My thinking on telling people is that we tell people we would share bad news with and want support from anyway - so parents, brother and sister, nan, three or four close friends but that's it until 12 weeks. I had a mc first time round and really valued the support of those people.

Feeling really quite well so far. Only two 'episodes' - one dizzy one when I got too hot cooking at the weekend, that's quite normal for me in early pg but it usually happens in the shower. The other was on Sunday night when I felt really sick for about half an hour. Am getting away with it so far, apart from the dreaded thrush which aflicts me throughout every pg, (sorry if TMI!)unfortunately I've already had my first bout. Can't totally remember when my nausea set in previously but think it was around 7-8 weeks so I might be saying the opposite next week! I do have a horrible cold and sore throat though so I'm quite thankful not to be feeling sick as well.

Wow, that was an essay!

Cadmum · 21/12/2010 23:57

bunnyfrance I only have time for a quick message but I wanted to tell you that I had a breast abscess aspirated by a Consultant in London back with ds2 (nearly 7 years ago). The procedure had to be repeated 3 times but I did avoid a GA and I kept feeding baby...

(Not much help but if possible, try to avoid surgery. It is possible.)

WhenStNixgotstuckuptheChimney · 22/12/2010 01:58

Having beenin bed with a feverish lurgy since Sunday I'm starting to think the flu jab would be a very good idea !!

littlemisslozza · 22/12/2010 08:44

Spoke too soon, hot dizzy episode again this morning and felt very sick until I had breakfast. Reassuring though!

impatient1 · 22/12/2010 08:54

Hello!
I've been reading this thread since the beginning, but have held off posting until now as i had some spotting early on. It's been gone a couple of weeks now, so i thought i'd introduce myself.
I'm due August 8th with #4. I also have a DS,9, DD,4, and DD, 2. I live in North Wales. I'm 37. I'm not getting much, symptom wise, sore (.)(.) and hypersentitive to smells (not good with 3 kids!)
Look forward to getting to know you all :)

MrsVidic · 22/12/2010 09:02

You guys are so lucky not to have morning sickness! Mine begins when I wake then lasts until I sleep! I'm quite lucky as im rarley sick (that comes in the last 20 weeks as I get reflux!)

I can't believe how much harder 'i'm finding this pregnancy having to run around with a toddler- but its all worth it! My dd thankfully naps so I'm napping at the same time each day I'm not working so I have a nce little 2 hour nap in the day!

i too am getting the flu jab tomorrow

Hersetta · 22/12/2010 09:09

Morning everyone.

We had a nice night - packing for hols and we watched the scan dvd. Was nice to see little beans heart beating away as I couldn't really see the screen too well at the time of the scan.

We are of on hols early tomorrow morning - off to the sun in Egypt so if I don't get the chance to post again then just wanted to wish everyone a happy and healthy christmas and here's to a great but hectic 2011 for us all!!

you lucky thing, I SOOOO need some sun. Went on a cruise Sept/Oct which was lovely but we went to cold places like Iceland, Norway, Faroe's etc, then ended up in Fort Lauderdale just to be flown home, so no sun!!
Looking at hols for beg Feb and would have had scan by then, sick of this sodding snow!!

No sickness here, just the feeling of it, but waking up at 3am every morning and not falling asleep for 2 hours is doing my nut in now! Too hot, too cold, aching, then finally drop off while clearing my mind and thinking of sunny skies and fluffy clouds :)

Hopefully I updated the newbies correctly, the inner administrator in me loves jobs like that Grin but I'm on my mum's MacBook which is a bit unfamiliar so I hope I've done it ok.

So so sorry for the bad news there's been on here :(

We've told our parents (but they knew I was due to have the endometriosis surgery) but won't tell our brothers yet. My brother and SIL are expecting their first baby in April, so this is 'their' pregnant Christmas and I don't want to steal their thunder.

I'm getting good at nursing a glass of wine all evening and taking tiny sips; my Dad is under instruction to drink all my wine behind people's backs then say "more wine Carrie?" really loudly Grin

wishwales · 22/12/2010 15:37

I had a huge scare last night ladies.

At about 3pm, I noticed some brown blood when I wiped but we had a funeral to go to so I just got on with it. I started bleeding a brighter red and rather heavily in the evening and even had 3 good size clots before I went to bed.

We went to the early preg unit this morning for an emergency scan and were completely SHOCKED that the baby is just fine. "She" is 8.3mm which makes me 6wks 6days - and we saw the heatbeat as well.

I wanted to post this because when I was freaking out last night and looking for reassurance, I could not find any cases of early pregnancy bleeding with blood clots that ended up ok. The Dr said it could happen again and not to worry.

Best wishes for a great holiday everyone!

bettyboo83 · 22/12/2010 15:58

That's great news wishwales, glad everything is ok x

lilacblossom · 22/12/2010 16:13

Glad you had good news, wishwales, that's wonderful. I've got a scan tomorrow morning as I've been having bleeding/brownish discharge (you may have read about it further up). I'm a bit confused, because it seems to have stopped and I've felt quite sick and drained today, ie pregnant, but then I don't want to get my hopes up only to be disappointed. And I swear my belly is getting bigger and feels hard, but that may well be wishful thinking! Anyway, I'll post an update after my scan tomorrow.

LadyGoneGaga · 22/12/2010 16:27

Fabe news on scan, Wishwales. Hope your little bean stops giving you scares now.

Sounds positive, Lilac, especially that the bleeding has stopped and also that you still have symptoms - have everything crossed for you. With the one I lost I completely lost my symptoms about a week before bleeding started. With DS I bled but kepy my symptoms through it and it stopped so am hopeful for you. Let us know how it goes tomorrow. What time is your scan?

RunDMC · 22/12/2010 16:31

so sorry to hear your news batgirl and keeping everything crossed for you lilac. I had a mc in the summer so I can relate to what you are going through at the moment.

I feel a bit guilty reporting good news but here goes: I'm pleased to report I went for an early scan last night and there was a heartbeat and a little bean measuring 8+6 Grin - which I think puts me one day ahead of you LadyGoneGaga as my EDD is now 27/7.

The whole process was v nervewracking as we found out the last time things were going wrong at an 8 week scan and were so worried about that happening again. So phew for now although still some ways to go ! have told our mums and a couple of very close friends, but will hold off telling the rest until the 12 week mark I think.

Still feeling sick randomly throughout the day and actually being sick most evenings. All a good sign though and keeping my fingers crossed it settles down once I get into the 2nd trimester.

Sticky thoughts to those who need it and festive wishes to everyone...

lilacblossom · 22/12/2010 16:37

Thanks for your positive vibes LadyGoneGaga. The scan's at 8.50am, so will be good to get it over and done with early (though we have to get a bus at 7.25am to get there in time!).
Don't feel guilty RunDMC - that is wonderful news and I'm sure everyone is thrilled for you! Fantastic!

LadyGoneGaga · 22/12/2010 17:08

Great news, RunDMC. And I don't mind you queue jumping at all Xmas Grin. She measured me a day behind but won't change dates til the 12 week scan as I am charting she said to stick with my date for now.

Will be good to have it early, Lilac - less time to hang around with a full to bursting bladder! Wil be thinking of you.
