Nomore - savoy cabbage leaves straight from the fridge are good for engorged breasts, but don't put them on your nipples. Lansinoh is a God send for sore nipples and you don't need to wipe it off before feeding bambino.
My nipples got a little bigger (I've always had quite small nipples) but not hugely so.
With the right advice & help there are actually very few barriers to breastfeeding - medical advice aside, less than 2% of women are physically incapable of breastfeeding. But often the right advice and help isn't there Sad

Clarkiee · 24/11/2010 19:47

Just had a little cry about work. I'm in the middle management in a school and this term we've had an acting head. Since she started I feel completely undervalued and I have no clear role (unlike before with the last head). Two of the people who are the same level as me are given all the important 'jobs' (tbh they are totally taking advantage of them). I don't even know why I bother having the role I have Sad.

Its not related to being pregnant either because I only told her couple of days ago.
Sorry moan over

moomin156 · 24/11/2010 19:52

clarkie i would try not to worry and maybe enjoy the fact that you arent being given extra responsibilities / stress when you really need to look after yourself and bump......
It is hard to do i know but take a deep breath and try to relax

cep · 24/11/2010 19:58

I couldn't do it last time, everytime i put baby near my nips they vanished, m/w just put him on and i ended up with a little blister on my nip they then told me to feed through the pain, but my nips were still disappearing, they gave me a rubber nipple shield thing to help suck my nipple in and the thing just ended up with milk behind it so it slipped everywhere, baby couldn't feed properly and ended up with loads of wind. I was absolutely gutted, after a few days i had to admit failure and started pumping, but then my milk started drying up, after a couple of weeks, i was spending half the day on the pump to only get a couple of feeds and had to buy powdered for the rest of the feeds. Am really worried i'm going to have this trouble again, i really really wanted to bf and i want to this time. I have really big boobs as well as being obese so everything seems to get in the way.

Clarkiee am sorry work is being such a pain, how long is the stand in going to be there??

KaraStarbuckThrace · 24/11/2010 20:00

Clarkiee Sad Not sure what to suggest! Have you talked to the AH about your role?

Been feeling ill again today, sick and have a bad headache today. Running a workshop at 10pm - why on Earth did I agree to do that?

Clarkiee · 24/11/2010 20:01

Thanks moomin and cep. Stand in is there till Christmas so can't see the point in discussing it with her.

moomin I been thinking like that for the last few weeks and its defo better than being one of the two people who have been given unreasonable extra responsibilities its just getting me down today for some reason.

Clarkiee · 24/11/2010 20:04

Ta kara it'll be fine, I'll just make sure that the new Head gives me a clear role (by then I'll be too pregnant to care ha ha).

sasamaxx · 24/11/2010 20:09

cep - I don't think it sounds as though you have had very good bfing support at all Sad
Did you call la leche league at all? They are very good, and www.kellymom.com is a brilliant site that covers every bfing problem and issue under the sun.
It's so sad that the support is so awful in this country. Hope you have better luck this time Smile

cep · 24/11/2010 20:09

Clarkiee oh thank g that it's only for another few weeks. Hopefully the next one will be loads better.

cep · 24/11/2010 20:14

sasamaxx No i didn't to be honest i didn't really realise that all those types of places were available. i was absolutely gutted when i had to totally give up, sounds daft but having children was the one thing i always wanted, never bothered me about a career (infact if we could afford it i'd be a sahm) i always pictured me bf baby on a rocking chair (why rocking chair i don't know but i even bought a glider chair for that reason) I'll definately check out that website, and i watched the dvd that comes in bounty pack 1 which talks about bf and the specialist advisers that can come and discuss it all with you. So i know if i do have trouble i can actually go somewhere. It's bizarre cause my nips come out normally everyother time just for some reason disappeared when it really mattered.

sasamaxx · 24/11/2010 20:30

cep VERY jealous of your glider chair Envy

8rubberduckies · 24/11/2010 20:30

Cep a friend of mine couldn't breastfeed her first dc; she had all sorts of problems and gave up after about two weeks, but dc2 is 2 months old now and has been having no problems at all feeding, right from the start. Hope this makes you feel better Smile.

Just had a yummy curry to chase away the heebiejeebies; the whole household has come down with a stinking cold Sad. May phone in sick tomorrow and have a duvet day... Smile.

sasamaxx · 24/11/2010 20:31

cep - sorry pressed send too soon there.
Sorry you had such bad support - it must have been really disappointing at the time - ridiculous that they couldn't have pointed you in the direction of real support which may have made a big difference for you. I haven't watched that DVD - is it the Sarah Beeny one?

Gillzz · 24/11/2010 20:36

Hi every1,

so good to hear all the good news and so sorry to hear the sad!

I have scan on friday soo scared, excited and nervous, will be 12+1 so will add stats to new list on fri!

been having headaches everyday since last tuesday and tummy getting bigger by the day!

xxxxxxxx

frida75 · 24/11/2010 20:47

Hullo everyone :)
I'm 12+5 today and tentatively starting to believe this pregnancy might be ok after 4 consecutive m/cs. I've got 2 bright and bubbly ds (5 and 7) & a fab dh who has been amazing in the last few months as I have been SOOOOOOO sick!! I barely had morning sickness before with ds's so this has been shocking! All day, all night and a tongue that tastes like the bottom of a bird cage! Has anyone else had this?? Will it go away!??

I'm glad I've found this thread, I hope it helps me feel a bit more connected with the growing baby inside :)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 24/11/2010 20:51

Cep - you needed better support, I would try and contact someone from LaLecheLeague or the ABM to give you some advice. NCT have breastfeeding counsellors as well.
I second Kellymom as well there is lots of great information on there about various breastfeeding problems.

sasamaxx · 24/11/2010 20:55

Welcome to the thread frida75

I am convinced that I have too big a bump for being only 12+4 so have uploaded a photo taken a minute ago onto my profile - what do people think?

sasamaxx · 24/11/2010 20:56

Oh and - yes I am wearing a thermal vest Blush

79monica · 24/11/2010 20:59

DungunGirl I told my line manager on Monday, mainly because my scan is next Monday at 3.40 so I'll need to leave half way through the afternoon and there is really important meeting which I need to miss because of this. He was really lovely and very excited on my behalf. This is despite the fact that it doesn't fall very conveniently for our team. There is only him, me and my assistant in our team, we are accountants and our company's year end is 30 April which means that May, June and July are the busiest three months of our year when we are preparing our annual results and having them audited.

DH and I are planning on telling family on Monday night (assuming it's good news, if it's not we'll go home via the supermarket for rose wine and brie) and then start telling friends and work on Tuesday. At the moment the only people who know are me, DH, both of our line managers (to get time off for the scan) and the MW.

I also recommend fizzy water for MS. I have to buy a litre of the Tesco lemon and lime one to recover with every time I attempt to do any supermarket shopping. I also found peanut butter on cream crackers good, but then my MW said that I should avoid peanuts because of my DH having hayfever. Sad She did say that her husband can't have peanut butter either and has found almond butter on the internet which he has instead of peanut butter but I haven't bothered to look it up yet.

I'll hopefully be adding my stats on Monday evening Grin

Sasamaxx I didn't even realise that we had profiles on mumsnet!

Welcome frida75! Smile

Off to watch my favourite program of the week now - the Apprentice! Smile

sasamaxx · 24/11/2010 21:05

79monica you can tell when people have a profile as their name is underlined and clicking on it links to their profile.
I think you set it up by clicking the 'my mumsnet' tab at the top of the page Wink

mrsbigw · 24/11/2010 21:17

Aw Leroy that's wonderful, what a difference a day makes :). Hope the job is the tonic that he needed to feel confident in being a daddy. Men are so odd sometimes but I am glad that things have taken a turn for the better for you all.

Hi & Welcome Frida!

Sasamaxx I think it is a good size considering how slim you are & it looks very high too. A MW told me it looked like I may have twins due to height of fundus as I have been able to feel it from about 9 weeks, but only 1 for me! You never know how many are in there until the scan ;)

petitech · 24/11/2010 21:40

Sasamaxx thanks for the tip re setting up profile, have just done same and added my 10 week scan pics :) Have NHS scan on Friday, will be almost 13 weeks so hoping to see that the bean is growing.
As for your photo, I would say that I'm pretty similar in size and we're very close date wise, although I'm 5ft 1 so might just be rounder down to the fact I've put on almost 10lbs at last count! (admittedly stopped counting!)

bananarama05 · 24/11/2010 22:03

jasmine good work on the vegetable front, I managed cauli cheese last weekend and was far too pleased with myself Grin

sasamaxx I'd say I'm about where you are size wize too, starting to get a bit paranoid at work but I naturally carry all my weight on my stomach so can probably get away with it for a bit longer... I was congratulated on my pg in my last job by a rather upfront Chinese colleague....I wasn't bloody pg or best impressed!!!

Orange lucozade is getting me through ms and wanting to put my head on my desk and sleep for 2 hours every day after I eat lunch Blush I know it's not ideal what with the caffeine but I don't drink tea or coffee and don't often have chocolate.

good luck for tomorrow takethatlady come back and fill us all in quickly :)
