Congratulations Kara, your scan pic is great! We're due on the same day. I also had a look at the pics of your ds. He's so cute!

How about a jumper dress type thing and leggings bananarama? Or is it a posner doo than that? Do the people there know, or do you mind them knowing you're pregnant? What I mean is are you looking for something to hide your bump?

moomin156 · 02/12/2010 18:49

banana i eat parmesan by the bucketful......have to say i just presumed it was ok as it was a hrad cheese. The huge block i am consuming at the minute was smuggled in my suitcase from Sicily so cant read the label LOL. Too late for me Im afraid if im not allowed to eat it.

Mummynumber2 · 02/12/2010 18:55

Now I'm even more confused about cheese. I thought that all hard cheese was fine. I can't stand the thought of any cheese at the mo so so it's not actually an issue for me Xmas Smile

moomin156 · 02/12/2010 18:56

Cant remember who said they were using baby oil.........thats what i am slathering on to. Someone at work has said there is an E45 with menthol available in Boots that their daughter used for itching during her pregnancy. Anyone else heard of it?

bananarama05 · 02/12/2010 19:03

clarkie you clearly haven't met someone with a love of cheese like mine. I sent DP to tescos at about 10.30pm the other night and proceeded to eat chunks of extra mature cheddar. I've been buying low fat cathedral city for the past year due to being on weightwatchers but I just cracked and had to have some "proper" cheese!

MN2 I was leaning towards jumper dress just can't be arsed to consider shopping at the moment! It is a little posh but whoever described themselves as a hungover scarecrow impersonator earlier could have been describing me lately! Can't be arsed is an understatement so if anything thinks I'm not dressed up enough sod 'em quite frankly. They don't know yet but will probably either tell them before or on the night, they are close friends from school days so once the family announcement is done this weekend they'll be some of the first to know.

moomin I like your approach, may just buy some proper italian stuff and ignore any labels! It was me that mentioned baby oil, I got some johnsons aloe vera stuff the other day and its lush, can't stand the smell of baby oil...or wipes...or anything like that...hmm I see this being an issue in a few months!

Hmmmmm banana you will just have to use the unscented stuff but then the baby wont smell of babies.....LOL
I have the aloevera gel too but its not quite as itch relieving

Mummynumber2 · 02/12/2010 19:43

I've just read a post on the pregnancy board about itching in pregnancy. Apparently you should contact your mw it have a blood test as it could be to do with your liver function. I think that's only if you don't have a rash or dry skin with it. That's not what it is with me though as I usually get this in the winter. There's an e45 itch relief cream, my skin doesn't like it though, or aloe Vera. It's Aqueous cream all the way for me!

I hope your doppler arrives soon leroy. I'd be interested in knowing what you find it. I'm thinking of getting one too.

I have put some pictures of the snow at our house which I took yesterday on my profile. Sorry to those who are Envy of not having much snow!

I didn't make it into work yesterday but today did a 2 mile downhill hike to the nearest road where buses were actually running and then had a 1 mile hike home this evening from the closest bus stop to my house which still had buses going to it. This happens every winter because I live at the top of a steep hill which the buses can never cope with. I spend most of December and January walking miles to and from work in my snow gear looking very glamourous!

I have also had really itchy skin. I think that it is more because of going between the cold outdoors and heated buildings rather than anything pregnany related but it is driving me mad. Last weekend I had to get DH to rub body lotion all over my back as if it was suncream to stop it from itching. I have also noticed that I need to put body lotion on my stomach every morning otherwise it gets really itchy too, it must be growing! Smile

catherineps · 02/12/2010 19:57

We've had the most pathetic snow in Cambridge :( Enough to make it icy (I have been walking around like an 80 y old) but not enough for a day off - what use is that??

I have a scan date :) despite the Mystery of the Disappearing Midwife slowing everything down. I want to catch up with all of you who are so far ahead of me!

I've also been out and bought dresses, most excitingly I went down 2 clothes sizes in maternity trousers - I have the shape to wear maternity all of the time so great to finally have trousers that fit!

Sorry for me me me but love to all, especially cep

moomin156 · 02/12/2010 20:03

wow monica great snow......the MW took bloods from me on monday.....virolgy and liver function. I have no rash and it does seem to ease in the day and get really bad at night.

8rubberduckies · 02/12/2010 20:48

catherine don't worry, I'm still lagging behind - first scan next Tuesday! When is yours?

As for cheese, I just got complimented on my cheese geekiness on another thread Grin. Basically, hard cheese is an unhospitable breeding ground for the listeria bacteria - it needs a soft rinded cheese to thrive. It makes no difference if the milk the cheese is made with is pasteurised or not, the listeria grows after the cheese is made. So, all hard cheese is good! Why do I know this? Because I am a pig and had to know, as could not face another 9 months of food deprivation! If I can't have pate at least give me some posh cheese!

milliemuffin · 02/12/2010 21:16

Just copied this from BBC Health for those worried about itching but it does say this is more likely to occur in 2nd and 3rd trimesters...

"However, the specific symptoms of obstetric cholestasis include:

Itching that generally begins - or is most intense - on the arms, legs, palms of the hands and soles of the feet
Itching that's usually worse at night
Problems sleeping
Tiredness
Poor appetite
Nausea
Jaundice - yellowing of whites of eyes and skin (uncommon)
It's important to note these symptoms may be very minor or even unnoticeable."

All the talk of cheese gave me a huge craving so I just had a wedge of cheddar straight out the fridge! Heavens knows what I'll be dreaming about tonight!!

Mummynumber2 · 02/12/2010 21:20

Thanks 8rubberduckies I was getting a bit confused! Does that mean we can have hard goats cheese?

It's my real 12 week scan tomorrow (I'll be 13.3 though). Dp won't be able to make it, he's come along to so many so neither of us really mind. I'm thinking about taking dsd along with me if she's off school again. I only had a scan on Monday so I can be reasonably confident everything's ok but I'd hate her to be there if there's a problem. She would absolutely love to come though. What do you all think?

8rubberduckies · 02/12/2010 21:24

I think that if things were fine on Monday they are likely to be fine now... go for it! What a wonderful experience for her!

bananarama05 · 02/12/2010 21:32

8RD I think I love you and your cheese geekiness Xmas Grin

MN2 I think that sounds like a lovely idea

mrsbigw · 02/12/2010 21:40

Hello all, loving all the scan pictures & cute baby bumps too :)

Just had a quick read through the posts & it seems there are a few of us wanting cheese, thankfully I am not itchy though. Sounds awful :(

I have another UTI (last one was 4 wks ago, I never usually have them) and feel like poo but am trying to stay awake til 11pm so that I can get another antibiotic in my system today. Thank goodness for walk in centres though. It wasn't a nice place to spend most of the day but I think I would have ended up quite poorly if I had waited for GP appt tomorrow.

Was reading on old thread that taking cranberry capsules can prevent UTIs from recurring if one is prone to them, does anyone else do this?

Sorry for moany post but upbeat is beyond me tonight, hopefully I will feel better after a good nights sleep :)

mrsbigw · 02/12/2010 21:41

MN2 bet she will love it :) ...but I would check with hosp first as I think some don't let LO's in the scan room?

Tolalola · 02/12/2010 21:43

Ooh just had my first Drs appointment and scan! Haven't had the report/dates from the scan yet but I should be 12 weeks now, finally. Still haven't told anyone yet, though.

Unfortunately the little bugger was wriggling around like crazy in the scan so we couldn't get a good look to see if we could tell the sex. And the cost of it all nearly made me faint ($410 US! Shock Shock). Hope I don't have to go to the Drs. too often!

knackered76 · 02/12/2010 21:53

Congratulations on all the good scan news Grin.

For you ladies who thought you had a bump . . . . look at mine and weep (or be grateful that yours isn't as big Grin). In my defense this is my 4th pregnancy and for the 2 successful ones I was HUGE and looks like I'm going to be again . . . . .not sure how that was meant to be in my defense Hmm

knackered76 · 02/12/2010 21:54

Oh and have decided that really I can't physically hide it from the inlaws this weekend so looks like we will be telling them a bit sooner then planned, oh well!

knackered76 · 02/12/2010 21:55

Hmm, that might not have worked, I am challenged in the general understanding of these things . . . . you might have to use your imaginations instead Grin

milliemuffin · 02/12/2010 22:33

With regards to cranberry capsules for UTI's, cranberry juice is advised post delivery as it helps neutralise the urine which stings SOOO much the first few days afterwards. It was much worse second time round so I'll be sure to get some in ready for June!

milliemuffin · 02/12/2010 23:18

Ive just had to drink half a pint of water as I was suddenly really thirsty! Not a good idea before bed but I could have easily drank another if it weren't for the fact I'd be up all night p'ing! Anyone else been extra thirsty??

bananarama05 · 02/12/2010 23:32

millie I've been drinking for England recently, I have a 750ml water bottle on my desk at work and am getting through about 3 bottles full by lunchtime but not needing a wee at all, I seem to just be absorbing it somewhere!
