I made it in to work this morning, feeling that the piddley inch of snow around our place was not really a good enough excuse, but so far I've had nothing but brownie points and management respect from people. I live out in the sticks in a little rural village, which automatically makes people assume I must have 3 feet of snow, despite being only 13 miles outside of the city where I work. Apparently if there's a sheep or a cow within a stone's throw of your front door, the clouds dump extra snow on your doorstep.
Anyhoo, forgot to mention the other day, but at my booking in appointment on Monday I was assigned a PhD student as well as my proper MW. As I understand it, she's a qualified MW who's writing a study that requires close observation and involvement with some pregnancies from start (well, not literally from that very point in time!), up to a couple of weeks after delivery. I have no problem with being her case study, and in fact I get a bit of a bonus as well. She will be in attendance at every appointment (apart from scans) and at the birth, regardless of whether I deliver at the MLU or have to go to the hospital, so I'm going have a familiar face there with me whatever happens, which I obviously wouldn't have if I went to the hospital. And as long as there are no serious complications, she'll be the one stationed down that end, taking physical delivery of the baby when it pitches up and doing all the initial checks. I think that's quite nice, that I'm going to have someone so interested and involved in the whole process. And on top of it all she seems lovely, so extra bonus.
I wonder what my baby's case study name will be - I might request Child X of the Final Frontier.
