Elf1981 · 05/10/2005 14:28

Just rang hospital to see if my mum has had her op yet. Been told she is fine, back on the ward but sleeping. Yey!!

Congratulations YF on your arrival!

nervousmum · 05/10/2005 14:38

Goodness Ladies, you have been busy - 3 births since i last checked!

Huge congratulations to Yokefleet, Marinda, and Fastasleep. Yokefleet - your little boy weighs exactly the same as mine did at birth. How spooky is that?!? Was He full-term, if you don't mind me asking? (Joseph was born at 38+3 weeks - the consultant told me he would have been nearer 9Ibs if he'd been full term!)

Good luck for tomorrow, Elf - a section really isn't that bad. I'm now 9 days post, and feeling pretty much back to normal already. Getting v frustrated re the 'no driving for 6 weeks post' ban but it's imposed by my insurance company so i'll just have to be good!

Good luck to everyone else too - not too long to go now NM x

BigBumpBonnie · 05/10/2005 14:53

OMG OMG OMG, how many of you have had your babies?? It's only been a day since i checked, can't believe it...here goes,

huge congratulations to: FASTASLEEP, MIRANDA, YOKEFLEET.. brilliant news

Good luck to Elf and i'm glad your mum is okay. Jockey, really pleased your dh is home, it's so horrible hospital visiting especially when pg!

Also good luck to Moomin, hope you are doing okay in there, not much longer!

To everyone else let's hope the end is near. I am getting soooo many BH I keep thinking it's got to start any time now. It's my scan due date today, but how many babies keep to dates anyway? I am actually sleeping okay now after going through weeks of insomnia up until now. Am so grateful for a bit of unbroken sleep . The worst thing is trying to turn over in bed...it's AGONY. My bump is now spending the majority of it's time in a rock solid state and there is no way it can get much bigger...surely.

My dd is really playing up at the moment, i think she can sense the baby will be here very soon. Finding it so hard to cope with her tantrums as when she starts screaming the baby starts kicking..hard. (no wonder ruby's decided to stay put with all the noise going on!)

Anyway will be thinking of you all..... will anyone be pushing tonight I wonder? If not I think Elf's next

mishmash2 · 05/10/2005 15:41

Oh my god!! Congratulations to all 3 new additions! Looking forward to catching up with you all on the post natal thread. Hope all is well with you and that you are managing to catch up on some sleep. William slept for 2 weeks solid which was good so did get a chance to catch up!

NM - I had a c-section and drove after 4 weeks. The dr said it was fine (I didn't need pain killers after day 2 anyway) and felt fine in myself. The insurance company said it was ok if the dr signed me off - so it could be worthwhile double checking.

I can't believe W is now 5+3 and weighs 6lbs 5oz! All of yours are bigger than him already! Mind you he is guzzling 4 oz at each feed so hopefully will catch up quickly.

Fingers crossed for the rest of you - do hope the last moments of pregnancy aren't too bad.
xx

morningpaper · 05/10/2005 15:47

Congrats Yokefleet!

Nice to hear from you MishMash!

Phew - Just back from midwife - all okay, bp 126/60, urine had trace of sugar but I ate a big cake for lunch. She said baby is a good size and is 3/5 engaged which is good.

I am booked in for a sweep in 9 days time when I will be 41 weeks + 6 days - this will just be in the midwife's normal room at the surgery and takes about 30 minutes. I don't have to be accompanied. If nothing happens after that, then I'll be admitted on Saturday 15th to basically be 'pumped full of drugs' to get labour started.

But the midwife didn't think that we'd get that far - she said she is quite sure the baby will come beforehand.

mawbroon · 05/10/2005 16:33

NervousMum - my insurance co said the same as Mishmash's ie if doc said it was ok to drive then they were happy. I called them yesterday just to clarify the position. If I do have a section then I will ask the doc to make a record of the "ok to drive now" conversation in my notes just in case there is any comeback.

I made a decision today regarding trying to turn the baby. I am going to see an accupuncturist tomorrow for a treatment called moxy something or other (can't be arsed looking up the proper name - sorry!)where they burn a stick beside your big toe. Sounds like complete mumbo jumbo (although I am not completely cynical about alternative medicine) but I am willing to give it a try. If it doesn't work then I am in no worse a situation. She did warn me thought that it is best done at 35 weeks and after that the chances of it working are reduced..... Do you think that sounds like a get out clause for when it doesn't work???

I am going to pick up some bedding and toys etc from my friend tonight. And then THAT'S IT - no more things!! The wardrobe finally got delivered at 3.30pm which gave me ample time to go to the docs to pick up my prescription for Canesten for the small songbird which is tweeting away.

triceratops · 05/10/2005 16:37

congratulations Yokefleet. What a lovely name. [Grin]

Lexie100 · 05/10/2005 17:28

Went to see the midwife who hooked me up to monitors, check BP etc. All is fine i'm just in slow labour. Hopefully will be days not weeks!

mawbroon · 05/10/2005 17:41

Hang on in there Lexie. I'm sure it won't be long now.

Jockey · 05/10/2005 17:44

Elf - good news about your mum.

RTL - yes I think pneumonia can be infectious. As I've got a stinking cold/chesty cough the GP checked me over and has given me the all clear. Hope it stays that way! Glad your dp is better.

Mawbroon - dh wants to go back to work for a couple of hours a day but I reckon he needs at least another week off, which means he could go straight from sick to paternity leave. This is what he's flapping about, imagining all the work piling up! But blow it, health comes first.

Mishmash - William sounds as if he is doing really well with the weight gain.

Lexie - hope you are one of the next ones. J&BM hopefully too.

MP - the midwife could be right about not making it that far, looking at that photo! I'm wondering how much bigger my bump can get as the skin is stretched to the absolute limit & it's all at the front (I'm only 5 foot too). There's just little old me then this enormous looking thing which, according to the mums at school, is slowly heading south... Funny how people always comment on bumps isn't it?

Jockey · 05/10/2005 17:49

Good luck Lexie. And Mawbroon for tomorrow.

ButtonMoon · 05/10/2005 20:25

Hiya ladies...just for a bit of fun !? try this for birth predictions

Redtartanlass · 05/10/2005 20:46

Hey Button - she got the sex of the baby right!! Wish she could tell me when she's coming!!!

mawbroon · 05/10/2005 21:32

PMSL laughing at Madam Z. I'm going to save it though and see if any of it comes true. She says 6lb 7oz - has she not seen the size of my bump?????

MB

Elf1981 · 05/10/2005 22:12

Madam Z reckons I'm having an eight hour labour so my waters best break now then!

Slightly nervous about tomorrow. Found out I'm 10th on the list of sections (cant believe theres that many I'm hoping I misheard and she said 10:00!!)

My mum seems very well, they put her under with a general but instead of opening her arm up, they just waited til she was asleep and basically forced it around a bit and now she's hooked up to a machine which is "exercising" it for her! She's very much hoping to check out of hospital tomorrow, or Friday, which would be a good thing but I think the docs might argue. Will have to see how it goes...

Will update as soon as I am home.

Redtartanlass · 06/10/2005 01:25

Elf - tomorrow at this time...it will all be over for you wee bub in arms

Went to bed at 9pm read for ages tossed and turned in bed, got up and am now tucking into fried egg on toast!!!

Haven't seen any Jess&BumpMum posts recently is she going to beat elf??????

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 06/10/2005 07:11

nope im still here hun! Just absolutely shattered yesterday so spent most of the afternoon curled up reading my book!

Went to bed early last night and still didnt go to sleep til gone midnight, but then slept til 6.30am so not too bad.

ALL twinges have stopped YET AGAIN!

Elf.... CANT WAIT to hear the announcement!

As for that link.... this is what ive been told....
The day you deliver, outside will be hot. Your baby will arrive in the evening.

After a labor lasting approximately 22 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 4 ounces, and will be 17 inches long. This child will have green eyes and some very fine hair.

Does she not know its bloody october and FREEZING outside?! 22 HOURS IN LABOUR?! No thanks - Jess was only 16 hours. Jess was 6lb 6oz and i KNOW this one is bigger!!!

Lexie100 · 06/10/2005 08:14

Elf - good luck for today! We are all thinking of you. Hope your mum is okay too.

No action from me yet - so pleased that I can spend this morning getting things finalised for dd's birthday tomorrow! (She's at nursery until lunchtime)

morningpaper · 06/10/2005 08:19

Good luck Lexie, hope things get moving soon! xx

morningpaper · 06/10/2005 10:09

All quiet this morning... are you all off giving birth?

nervousmum · 06/10/2005 10:21

Morning

Technical question - how to treat a colicky baby? Joey was fractious (?sp) all yesterday afternoon with a horrible piercing crying and he kept screwwing his little face up as if he was in pain. I fed him, which usually settles him, then when i sat him up he promptly projectile vomited the entire feed back all over me and him. Fearing the worst (well, i am 'nervousmum'!), i panicked and phoned the midwife who came out, looked him over, and declared it to be 'a touch of colic' (which i thought breastfed babies didn't get, but there you go).

He eventually settled, then after i gave him his 11pm feed, he was really upset again, crying, screwing his face up, being very wriggly, and just generally unhappy . DP and i were pacing the room with him, tearing our hair out, till he finally crashed out on his Daddy's shoulder.

Any advice would be more than gratefully received, for our sanity (and peace of mind!), and for baby Joey's, as i hate seeing him so distressed and feeling unable to do anything about it. Thanks Ladies, NM x (sorry it's a long post!)

morningpaper · 06/10/2005 10:38

Hi NM! Some babies are colicky - breastfed or not - and the only thing you can do it wait until they are around 3 months and then they are better. Most people spend a fortune on 'cures' which are basically all bollocks IMO. Pacing the room frantically and feeling really stressed is a normal and appropriate parental reaction.

Start a thread on it and see what words of wisdom you are offered. Hope today is better! xx

hester · 06/10/2005 11:03

Marinda, Yokefleet!!

I'm so thrilled for you both. Marinda - Caitlyn is such a pretty name, and I can't wait to hear more about your home birth. Yokefleet - congrats and welcome to baby Thomas; is he a beauty?

I'm still feeling niggly and spending lots of time on birth ball to soothe pain in cervix/lower back. Also tight prickly pains in band across the top of my bump. Feel like I've got really bad PMT. To add to general grumpiness, I am starting a cold (according to dp I snored 'like a baby dragon' all night - the shame). And I can't take Lemsip! Am now determined not to go into labour until cold is over - am clenching my thighs as I type! Don't want to be like fastasleep and not able to sniff baby - and don't want to be going through labour streaming into pile of tissues.

Oh, Madam Z predicts I'll have a nine hour labour ending on a sunny afternoon. I'll have a boy (funny that; four scans say otherwise) and he'll have dark brown eyes (interesting - both parents have blue!).

This thread is getting very exciting...

BigBumpBonnie · 06/10/2005 11:10

Good luck Elf, really thinking of youxxx

Just got back from midwife appointment babies head is still free (even though I was due yesterday) apparantly normal if it's not your first baby. They told me to walk a lot to try and start things off, problem is walking is hard work at the moment. On the plus side, her hearbeat is fine and everything else is okay so it's just a matter of waiting now. I've got a consultants appointment next friday where I'll get an induction date if i'm still in one piece by then.

Morningpaper, saw your picture yesterday, you look fantastic!

Lexie, hope you don't have too much longer to wait if you've been getting pains.

NM, my dd was colicky and it is so upsetting. They really look in pain and you do feel so helpless. I agree with morningpaper that there really is nothing you can do and it doesn't last forever. Small comfort but it is quite common and won't have any lasting effect on your little man x
