That floats on high o'er vales and hills
When all at once I saw a crowd
Of cackling, quaffing, ne-er-do-wells

Pull up a seat, grap a glass of vino and a piece of sushi, it's Delitime again.

LadyGoneGaga · 25/11/2010 13:33

Medee sorry, I don't know the history of this? Is this for a potential Rhesus Factor incompatibility issue? They really should pull their finger out because can have very serious complications although I think only impacts on second baby but still (Don't want to scare you but my Mum lost one baby over this and brother was seriously ill and premature).

Sorry if have wrong end of stick and as I say only think impacts on second baby.

Medee · 25/11/2010 15:10

Yes, Gaga, I am Rhesus D negative, so MW said we needed to know what MrM?s blood type was for determining if I need the Anti-D injections; if it is positive then baby has 1 in 4 chance of also being positive, which as you say can have serious complications for future pregnancies. MW had said best way to find out was to just donate blood ? however, MrM gets very faint at giving any blood for tests etc, and hasn?t actually donated since the one and only time he did it age 17. So, after much rigmarole, he was told to get it done at the surgery (for which there would be a charge!). Nurse last week then said they didn?t do it there ? cue 30 minute run around before he eventually had a sample taken ? cue near fainting and vomiting by MrM, thereby proving why he was there. (Besides the wuss factor, there are several reasons why someone might not be able to donate blood, so what do they do if they need to know their blood type?)
I told MW on Monday we were waiting for the results ? no worries, she said, I have a stock of the injections here so you can just tell me at the next appointment. Today, MrM calls for results... ?Normal?. He queries this, a doctor will look at the notes and come back to him. Eventually, he gets a call back from an administrator at the surgery. Doctor has reviewed notes: despite request for Rhesus status, blood testing people have apparently ignored this. We?re not sure what he is Normal for! Administrator says that the father doesn?t get the injections ? MrM says, I know, but we need to know to know if my wife needs them. MW hasn?t apparently written anything on my records about needing to know this, but as my D- status is presumably there, it shouldn?t be rocket science. FFS. So, I am to call MW tomorrow, get her to speak to administrator/ doctor who looked at the notes to see if we can sort the debacle out when she is back in the practice on Monday. I shall ask MW if I should just have the injections anyway, as it might just be the solution to the problem, provided there is no contra-indication of having it if you don?t need it.
Jeez, apologies for the saga. I?ve had a model pregnancy so far, this is the only fly in the ointment.

Muser · 25/11/2010 15:12

That is just insane Medee. Absolutely ridiculous.

OP posts:
rocketleaf · 25/11/2010 15:27

Useless bunch of fuckwits! I wouldn't normally be so rude about the NHS but that really is incredible. Guess you better just get the injection if they can't get their act together to give a simple bit of info such as blood group. It's so bizarre. :(

Medee · 25/11/2010 15:28

I'm really hoping my nice competent MW can sort it all out

Scorpette · 25/11/2010 17:42

Absolutely mind-bogglingly fuckwitted Angry It'd be totally unacceptable if Mr M wasn't scared of blood being taken and if you hadn't had to pay for it, but this? Disgraceful.

I can't believe how dense everyone is being. I knew you have to check rhesus negative stuff when pg years ago and I've never worked in the medical industry, so it's absurd.

Looks like either Mr M is going to have to give blood again (fun times!) or you'll just have to have the anti-D jab regardless. There's no problem with you having it even if you don't actually need it, is there?

Whatever happens, I would demand my money back if I were you. How dare they take money off you for something so simple that they then can't even get right?! Angry After all, you've not got what you paid for, so get a refund!

SilverSky · 25/11/2010 18:00

Meds call up and scream blue bloody murder. Sometimes is the only way to get noticed.

Medee · 25/11/2010 18:16

He's not paid yet (they probably didn't know how to process the payment!)

I've always known this would be a factor, as I knew I was Rh -ve, and like you Scorps, I am amazed this all seems to be news to people. The NHS Scotland book is silent on the father's role in all this, so that hasn't helped.

Right, off to tap class, catch you all later.

Scorpette · 25/11/2010 18:18

PS I bought my first preggo bras today. They are so huge and grotesque that I burst out laughing at the sight of myself and the assistant knocked on the door to ask if I was all right! I may offer pictures of myself wearing them on the internet as a lifelong cure for sex addiction Grin Have already gone from a C-cup to an E-cup! Shock

I bought a 2-pack. I then spent nearly 10 mins arguing with the male cashier in M&S that it was a 2-pack, as he kept charging me double. Jabbing at the words '2 PACK' and semi-screeching 'WHAT DOES THAT SAY??????' may not have been my finest moment. Blush Mind you, he deserved it for repeatedly saying 'just because it says 2 pack doesn't mean I'm not meant to charge you for both' (Jesus wept). He then discussed what he was supposed to charge with another male assistant (oh, the shame). Luckily, that one was a spotty teen who went maroon at the sight of them, so that filled me with delicious schadenfreude Grin He then asked me if the size 10 men's slippers I was also buying were for me (a b-day pressie for my Dad). I just looked at him with a withering facial expression and said 'yes, yes they are' totally seriously. FFS.

I am also officially old because I told a teen lad to turn his mp3 down or off on the bus - and he did!

Scorpette · 25/11/2010 18:20

You ought to kick those cretins where the sun don't shine wearing your tap shoes, Medee Grin

ChoChoSan · 25/11/2010 22:03

Why not have a beautiful pjotographic keepsake of you diffed up nakedness... wrong

Muser · 25/11/2010 22:23

That is weird and freaky. And Demi Moore has a lot to answer for.

I have downloaded a hypnobirthing mp3 thing. I listened to some of the positive affirmations but had to stop as they reminded me I actually have to give birth. Eeek.

ChoChoSan · 26/11/2010 08:26

Hi Muse, what was the name of the hippo download? I have a cd, but haven't been bothered to put it in my phone yet, a download might be easier.

CluckyKate · 26/11/2010 09:11

Ewwwww - Demi Moore was classy but that it way out....most odd. Boxy did some ver tasteful shots of herself which she stuck on t'other place, a fine example of how it should be done!

Grr at the twats in M&S Scorps but big pat on the back for not losing your rag Grin

I fall asleep every time I listen to my hippo stuff - does this mean I is very relaxed [hopeful emoticon]?

As for the bluds saga Meds well....[despairs]. I found tears work better on MWs than getting shouty - I bawled when they phoned to cancel my S&S 2 days before the planned induction (had been off-roading with Boxy and everything so was really ready) and they changed their minds & hot-footed it round to do the biznis.

Medee · 26/11/2010 10:24

MW not available today, but sensible sounding other CMW took the details, repeated it back to me - "so, you need to know the father's Rhesus status and the blood results were inconclusive" and will pass it to my MW for Monday morning, whereupon she can hopefully kick ass in the surgery!

rocketleaf · 26/11/2010 10:54

Well that sounds good, at least she's on the ball. Hope you get it sorted monday funkycoldmedeena

I am still dithering over whether to ring mine about the gall stones. I stupidly posted a question about it in health and the only person who replied had a pretty bad time towards the end then got her gallbladder removed 4 weeks after the birth. Absolutely no ill affects for her daughter though, so thats reassuring. I am seeing mine in a few weeks anyway so I suppose it might be better to wait and see what happens after a few weeks on a low fat diet.

Medee · 26/11/2010 11:00

Loving FunkyColdMedeena, Rocket!

How many weeks are you, now? I'd be inclined to call her - she might just say it can wait till your next appointment to discuss it further, but at least let her make that call and not you.

rocketleaf · 26/11/2010 11:44

I'm 13 weeks now, not seeing her til the 16th of Dec. Hmm, you are probably right, thanks.

Muser · 26/11/2010 21:00

It's the Katherine Graves one Cho, from this place: www.thehypnobirthingcentre.co.uk/

Have sent you a message about it.

Whoop - did Clearblue Digi this morning Came up with Pregnant 3 weeks plus straight away. Yay! Am 5+2 today. And boobs up a cup size and back size already which happened with DS but not with the one I lost Grin Have been rifling through my bargain bucket of an underwear drawer and found two of correct size, both nursing bras but are fine.

Glad at least one midwife sounds sensible and in control, Medee

Rocket I agree might be better to talk to someone sooner rather than later.

So, who are the next layers? Any twinges we should know about?

Finally is snowing here! I love the snow but have to drive MiniG to drop off point a bloody hour away to see his Dad Hmm

Muser · 27/11/2010 10:15

Good stuff LadyG, drive carefully in that snow.

OP posts:
rocketleaf · 27/11/2010 11:30

Ah that's good news lady take care of yourself. What plans for child free weekend then? Take advantage of not feeling sick before it kicks in in the next few weeks!

I'm having a lazy one as have nothing planned. Really want to get out for a big long walk while the sun's out, although I suspect its giving a false impression of the actual temperature out there. No snow here, we hardly ever get it, being sheltered and sea level. Sposed to be getting some next week tho I'd much rather we didn't. (bah humbug)

LadyGoneGaga · 27/11/2010 13:19

MrG away too so is a bit on quiet side! Have done a bit of Christmas shopping, might get MiniG's wrapped and stashed away somewhere so we don't blow the Santa myth wide open due to incompetence (like normal). Giving my cats a bit of quality time as they are normally neglected. Going out with some friends for dinner tonight be going to have to make up some shite as to why not drinking esp as most of them know about the mc so will be eyeing suspiciously anyway. Going to have a looooooong lie in tomorrow. Do some cleaning. Dull, dull.

Enjoy your lazy one, Rocket. Is proper freezing out there so I'd just stay in and nest.

LadyGoneGaga · 27/11/2010 13:20

Shameful confession. Had an actual craving for McDonalds. Haven't had one in about 3 years. Gave into it as well. Yummed it up. What IS WRONG with me????

Muser · 27/11/2010 13:34

Nothing is wrong with you. When I was in the depths of pukedom and could not bring myself to eat anything I went to McDonalds at lunchtime and had a cheeseburger and fries. It was amazing. Perked me right up. I believe others feel the same way about Burger King onion rings.
