Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

kara our bathroom is tiny. I'll put a link to some photos and a birth story if I get a go on the big pc any time soon... moomin was it you that was having stabbing pain in groin? I have had this and in my case it is broad ligament pain. Really bad if I cough, sneeze or laugh and MUCH worse in late pregnancy. I find curling up in a tiny ball helps if I feel a sneeze coming on. I have been referred for physio this time, so it is probably worth mentioning it to your mw. mrsbw I had monitoring in second labour and it was the mobile kind - probably would have walked out of delivery and had the baby in the corridor if they'd tried to strap me to a bed. Do your research - in many cases there is little evidence that continual monitoring is of any benefit. They don't do continual monitoring on mlu's usually, so you'll probably get away without it or they'll try and transfer you. Just don't let anyone break your waters...

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 20:59

motherofsnortpigs how on earth does one curl up into a tiny ball in late pregnancy?!
Why shouldn't you let them break your waters?

I found sucking extra strong mints the only thing that worked. I'm past that now but still need to eat all the time as I get sick if my stomach is empty

mrsbigw · 10/11/2010 21:08

Thanks motherof I think not letting them break my waters is a good plan. All my labours have been identical as far as dilation/ progress etc & the dramas always start when they start breaking waters.
I always manage at home until 4cm, then go in & have v strong close contractions for about 4 hours but only get to 4 and a half cm. Waters usually broken for me sometime during this stage. Cue MW telling me I will be labouring for hours & the contractions are too intense & close for me to carry on like this without epidural Hmm.
I then carry on regardless & am ready to deliver in the next 30-60 minutes. Methinks I need to read up on this waters breaking lark.

moomin156 · 10/11/2010 21:08

Thanks motherofpigs i will mention it to her next week when i see her, its a really sharp / burning pain right in my groin......worse when i just start to move or move / twist suddenly. Exactly as i would imagine a groin strain but i really havent done anything to cause any damage. i had to have some painkillers yesterday as it was so bad. Better today thankfully
As for birth......midwife unit i hope, a homebirth doesnt appeal to me, i prefer the idea of a clinical environment being close by if something goes by or i need some help with the pain......not sure i will be a breath throughthe contractions type girl. more of a give me entenox, pethidine or even a general anaesthetic and wake me up when its all over LOL

We haven't told anyone at all yet (except the MW obviously). I got my scan appt through for 29 Nov which will be when I am exactly 12 weeks so assuming it all goes well we'll call family that evening and then start telling friends / work the next day - just in time too as the first work Christmas party is at the end of that week so it will be good to actually be able to say why I'm not drinking!

I might tell my manager a couple of days before the scan - I rarely go to the Drs and have never been off sick and so suddenly having a hospital appointment in the middle of the afternoon will look a bit strange for me. Also, if the news isn't good I want to just be able to send him a quick text saying that I won't be at work the next day rather than having to explain everything from scratch.

By the way, on that T shirt site there are literally hundreds of designs. I was looking for about an hour last night and didn't get through them all. They also have an option to customise a T shirt if they don't have the phrase / picture you want so you could definitely have one saying "yes it was planned"!

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 21:32

Oooh exciting moomin. We are meant to be getting a car at some point and then I will have to learn to drive (properly and legally, I can drive but I learned on a beach at midnight when I was 16!) and get my licence.

moomin156 · 10/11/2010 21:44

nurse you need to start learning now whilst you can still fit behind the wheel LOL

I love that t-shirt monica I will be purchasing!

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 21:46

I know moomin!

sasamaxx · 10/11/2010 21:58

nursesunshine - the midwife gives you the bounty book and folder at your booking visit. In this is a voucher to get your first pack Grin

You get 2 more in hospital when having the baby - not sure how it works for a home birth.
Then you get a weaning one too - I LOVE freebies too lol

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 22:03

I didn't get my book as they'd run out. Didn't get a pack either, though I got an "emma'sdiary" book and a voucher to bring to Lloyd's Pharmacy and get a pack, not sure what's in it. Is that the same thing? stamps foot and whines I wanna bounty paaaaack

bananarama05 · 10/11/2010 22:16

Wow you lot are chatty today! Damn me not finishing work til gone 8 I miss everything but have to say my evening catch up does make me smile, glad I found this thread even if i don't post much Smile

Tried sneaking on at lunch today but was worried my workmates would see (our office is sort of open plan) so wasn't on for long.

nursesunshine thanks for the crack comment I needed putting into perspective Grin

I fancy the idea of a midwife led unit but at my fist MW appointment she put me down for a regular hospital birth without any discussion I just assumed that was because it was my first and didn't think to question it. I'm also a wimp and am wavering on the idea of not being able to have drugs on demand!

I've told a couple of friends and my boss but haven't told family yet, we're just not that close which I know is bad. Want to wait til I've had my scan then think we'll find some way to announce it, no idea how yet!

Hope you've all had a good evening, bed for me soon I think!

mrsbigw · 10/11/2010 22:18

I love the samples & mini freebies too!
You can always look round the MW led unit then change banana if you want to later on.

bananarama05 · 10/11/2010 22:21

Oh and meant to say think I win bitch girlfriend of the day award today Blush

OH got up early to make me a bacon sandwich as a treat for breakfast before work...I proceeded to come downstairs and then have to (literally!) run away to stop myself throwing up in the sink at the smell of bacon... then forced half of it down before moaning at him for having sliced the bread on the same board he'd chopped cucumber on for his lunch because aparently cucumber flavoured bacon was not what I fancied and a perfectly good reason to snap.

Some people are just never happy eh, I don't think he'll bother again in a hurry Smile

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 22:24

Fair enough if you're happy with that banana but don;t let them push you about! Stand up for your rights

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 22:33

Oh didn't see your last message banana, well I can't say I'd fancy cucumber flavoured bacon either. Your OH is clearly a selfish, inconsiderate... Grin

bananarama05 · 10/11/2010 22:34

I need to look into it. I didn't even know MW led units even existed til I picked my initial paperwork up from the GP so need to do a bit more research I guess. Plenty of time yet though :)

I'm hoping my next MW appt will be a bit more positive. I didn't see my actual MW for my booking but will do from next appt. Wasn't keen on the first one - I got a lecture on foetal alcohol syndrome for letting slip I was having a small glass of wine once a week/fortnight and didn't see it as a major issue and she started telling me all about the health in pregnancy grant until I told HER I wouldn't qualify for it seeing as it stops in January and you have to be 25 weeks+ by then.

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 22:42

FFS banana she sounds like a bit of a tool. You are absolutely FINE having a small glass of wine once a week or fortnight. I hope you asked her if she'd bothered reading any scientific studies lately and why she seemed to think she was exempt from keeping up to date with her evidence based practice. And if you didn't I hope the next woman does. Hopefully your actual MW will be better.

She should have ASKED you where you CHOSE to have your baby. As it is YOUR baby, YOUR body and YOUR choice where to give birth.

Don't ever accept someone telling you what to do. You know best!

sasamaxx · 10/11/2010 22:44

nursesunshine - oh no the Emma's Diary pack is a bit rubbish if I remember rightly - hassle your midwife until you get the bounty stuff!!

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 22:53

Booo sasamaxx! No fair! My friend is a student midwife and she said she's going to have a rummage and see if she can get me some bits and pieces Grin I will definately hassle MW at my next appt though, the more freebies the better!

milliemuffin · 10/11/2010 23:58

If anyone has missed out on anything from Bounty just give them a ring (google the website for a number), they'll post you a voucher that you then take to sainsbury's to pickup your pack. I used to work for them until they got too pushy with the sales of the bedside photographs, I was a Bounty Photographer, but that's another story. Xx

takethatlady · 11/11/2010 07:36

Have woken up fed up and paranoid today.

No tummy troubles, no back pain, no ms at all, and my boobs barely hurt anymore. I feel normal. Am 7+4. Please someone tell me it's normal to have normal days and that it doesn't mean anything bad.

Also fed up as it has now been 2 WEEKS I've been phoning my midwife. She has never once had her phone on. You have to ring a pager number rather than leave a message (I have left a message too, though), and I have left messages on the pager and absolutely nothing ever happens. To top it all off I left my phone out in the rain and now the midwife's actual mobile number has been wiped and the doctor's will only give me the useless pager.

Sorry for self-indulgent post. Love the bacon-flavoured cucumber argument Grin

deepbluewave · 11/11/2010 07:45

Hi hunny-Im awake and listening.

Dont worry at all, it is perfectly normal-some people dont have any symptoms at all for ages!

I had weeks of rough-then for no reason, 4 plain, normal days, with nothing! I was worried too, but it is so different for everyone.

After 4 days- BAM! it was back again-worse than ever. I was actually happy I felt sick again. This then lasted a week, and in the last 10 days, I have felt fine again. I have the odd wave, put on a whole, feel ok.

You may find, your boobs get sore and your back sore over the course of the day. My main sickie time was between 15pm and 17pm.

Dont worry yourself-I think we all feel the same.

Shitter about your MW though-dunno what to suggest there- sounds like your trying everything. Not a good relationship starter!

deepbluewave · 11/11/2010 07:47

I also found every day was very different. Some days I could wake fine- after lunch, sick as a dogvice versaso maybe just enjoy a few hours being symptom free and try get a little summit done--If I felt ok, I would try get the house work done, cos I knew it may be another 2 weeks before I bothered again!
