Evening--gosh your a right bunch of chatter boxes! I cant keep up with all the chatter-is this the 3rd thread??

Thanks for welcome msgs-Ill be flitting in and out. How exciting this all is!!

This is my first bebekins-anyone else??

I never got that in my bounty pack-just the pampers and money off an appletiser- I shall have to scan through again. I did want my hubby to go and pick up the tiny nappies straight away though!!

Has anyone begun buying 'stuff' yet????

All the best

yellowtomato · 10/11/2010 17:10

Ooh sasamaxx that does sound like a good haul, i want mine now! Sorry to be a bit thick but what is an anti-d jab?

I'm not thinking about the birth in too much detail at this stage but I thinking midwife led unit and hynobirthing. Does anyone have any experience of this?

deepbluewave · 10/11/2010 17:20

PS- I know I keep going on about nausea, but I found it tough. I found that taking Pregnacare vitamins at night instead of morning, really helped my day.

me neither!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 10/11/2010 17:25

If you haven't already, join the Boots Parenting Club & the Tesco Baby club. I joined both first time around and got loads of vouchers, plus at Boots you get 10 points for every pound you spend on baby stuff so it is really good! Plus Tesco send you a badge in your third trimester so you can park in their P&C spaces - handy if you are expecting your first and the size of a whale - which I was Grin

I have rejoined the Boots one, need to rejoin the Tesco one too.

catherineps · 10/11/2010 17:25

Hi everyone,

you're right, deepblue, we can talk for England on this thread!

I'd rather not think about birth, actually . . . hate blood and pain and stuff. I'm going to pretend that it will just appear behind a bush or something!

milliemuffin · 10/11/2010 17:32

On the home birth front, I bought an inflatable pool as they weigh less than wooden pools (which is what most companies hire out) and we have wooden floors but unfortunately had to transfer in with DS as he has a big head (and needed forceps - ouch!!) and there were no community midwifes available for a home birth with DD so had to transfer in for her aswell but I'm hoping 3rd time lucky!!

Someone also asked about private scans, I had one with DD as I conceived 3 weeks after I mc'd so wasn't sure how far gone I was. I had mine done at a Bupa hospital and paid £150.

deepbluewave · 10/11/2010 17:33

Right, Im off.
Someone will have to fill me in on d jabs and hypno births another time.

Tatty bye---any scans tomorrow for anyone??

milliemuffin · 10/11/2010 17:34

As for the Tesco Car Permit - Great idea but in my Tescos any tom dick or harry is allowed to park in the parents spaces (and tescos do nothing about it!) so the permit is totally useless :(

yellowtomato · 10/11/2010 18:05

Me me me, I have scan at 9am tomorrow!

supersunnyday - thanks for that info about the scan Smile

yellowtomato, suppersunnyday and deepblue - the anti-D jab is to stop your body making rhesus antibodies if your blood group is negative and the baby's is positive.

If the baby's blood is positive, and his/her blood comes into contact with yours, your body will make rhesus antibodies to attack the rhesus factor. This can't be allowed to happen as babies and mothers used to frequently die in childbirth as a result of this (usually in a subsequent pregnancy since the blood mixes during the birth.

Basically, if your blood group is negative, you will get this jab in the third trimester (and one after the birth as well if the baby turns out to be positive) along with a green card which you keep in your purse so that any doctor knows that you need anti-d after any injury etc. It's a big jag in your buttock Grin

sasamaxx · 10/11/2010 18:22

yellowtomato good luck at your scan tomorrow!

deepblue that's really disappointing about your bounty pack - is it the one you picked up at sainsburys/boots?
Or do you mean the folder that the midwife gave you?

petitech · 10/11/2010 18:23

How is everyone doing today? I'm now 10+3 I think and the sickness had started easing off but today I feel dreadful again....real acid taste in my mouth and just generaly queasy :(

8rubberduckies · 10/11/2010 18:36

I have found the answer to my prayers this afternoon - something to stop me feeling sick - boiled sweets! If this continues for the next 5 weeks though my teeth may rot and fall out Confused.

petitech · 10/11/2010 18:48

really... what kind... I've tried glacier fruits but have literally just been sick as a result I think of over consumption :( Someone suggested barley sweets to me?

moomin156 · 10/11/2010 18:51

Wow what a busy thread today.......
nursesunshine i have told close friends this week and i plan on announcing to the world of work tomorrow. I just need to ensure i can follow the risk assessments and without them knowing its very difficult. If something does happen, they will know anyway as i would have to be off work and im hoping that if i can talk about it i will start to feel more relaxed. I have some very good friends at work and i know they will all be delighted for me, but its hard to tell a few without the rest so mass announcement tomorrow.
Not sure how to do it.....tell 1 and let the gossip flow or do a public announcement or should i just put a poster up in the loo!!! I actually feel quite shy about announcing it LOL......their boss has had sex!!

OP posts:
KaraStarbuckThrace · 10/11/2010 19:16

Maotherofpigs - I am intrigued about your birth in the bath, were you not a bit squashed? Do you have quite a big bathroom? I did actually spend the last 4 hours of my labour with DS in the hospital but got out when I felt him pushing out.

knackered76 · 10/11/2010 19:17

moomin - felt the same about telling the people I was responsible for first time as well. Difference being they were all 9/10 years old and the idea of them knowing I'd had sex was quite mortifying (those who knew how babies were made anyway!). I reckon you should make a big deal of something, such as asking someone to life something for you, and then announcing 'well in my current state I'm not supposed to life anything heavy . . ' and see how long it takes them to work it out!

deepblue belated welcome. Sorry for the delay, quite rubbish at keeping up sometimes :)

yellowtomato - good luck for tomorrow :)

takethatlady · 10/11/2010 19:58

Definitely agreeing with 27 as a great age (I am 28 :))

Loving the puking in his shoes idea. My DH is excited but trying very hard to do a good impression of all those DH's who won't get excited until the scan. He tries not to talk about it, but it's usually easy to get him talking about it anyway Grin

Definitely not stupid for telling people! We told everybody at 4 weeks last time. Then very early mc at 4+2, so had to ring everybody back up 2 days later. So this time we didn't tell close family until 6 weeks and are waiting to tell friends until after the scan, which will be at nearly 10 weeks.

No ms today, boobs only slightly sore, but stretchy uterus cramps so bad in a meeting at work I had to just randomly leave and then reappear 15 minutes later. Still not counting my chickens.

Glad other people have got the spaceship nipples :)

8rubberduckies · 10/11/2010 19:59

Petitech barley sweets it is, although they will probably make me feel ill by this time next week Confused. I had a thing for crumpets last week, they were the onnly thing I fancied, but now they just taste wrong, kind of metallic Sad.

Good luck tomorrow yellowtomato x

mrsbigw · 10/11/2010 20:07

hello ladies & welcome deepblue

I love that everyone is getting over the shock of being pg & starting to think about the birth etc :) makes it all seem more real.

Petitech & 8rubberD I was going through the sweetie phase a week or 2 ago, I too managed glacier fruits & fruit polos when i couldnt eat but needed to try & get something down me. I never eat sweets usually & I think I will forever associate those sweets with feeling terribly ill.

Good luck at scan yellowtom. I have 2nd MW appt tommorow for bloods etc. Am hoping she will be able to indicate when I should get my 12 week scan appt as I am 11 wks tommorow & she referred me for this 3 wks ago. If it's going to be massivley delayed I will get a private one as I am feeling a bit left behind with everyones scans.

Sorry cant remember who said take vitamins at night but i think this helps reduce nausea, although I was sick last night about 30 mins after taking it so who knows?

I want to go to the new midwife led unit that will open a few months before baby due. I should be a good candidate as the last 2 were straightforward labours. Loving hearing everyones birth stories/ plans though.

Before I go & get the little one tucked in, does anyone know if there are any alternatives to being monitored laying down? Everytime they break my waters the baby has usually poohed (nice) & then I have to lay down & it really pissed me off last time as I was managing without gas & air & walking my contractions off until they got me strapped to the bed. Well it feels like you might as well be strapped to the bed! It is 6 and a half yrs since I gave birth so wondering if anything has changed for the better?

Humania · 10/11/2010 20:46

Evening ladies Smile

Best of luck for tomorrow Yellowtomato

Totally agree re. the boiled sweets - what really seems to work for me at the mo is sherbert lemons... I think it's the extra fizz!

I had a fantastic waterbirth at a brand new birth centre with dd1, but unfortunately we've moved out of the area so can't get there this time. So I've decided I'd also like to go for the homebirth option with pool. Totally agree with whoever it was who said that the worst bit of labour was the journey into hospital! I'm very keen for the one-on-one midwife care that seems to go with a homebirth, and I love the idea of being able to get into my own bed afterwards for a snuggle.

It is definitely starting to feel more real now...

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 20:53

I am really looking into a home birth. I'd prefer not to go into hospital unless I need to and the MW said since I am fit (Hmm) and healthy my care should be midwife led, unless obviously, something transipires later on. So basically, I'm not going to be militant about things but would prefer to be at home.

How much did your inflatable birthing pool cost milliemuffin? And where did you hire it from?

sasamaxx, what is a bounty pack and where can I get one from?! I LOVE getting freebies Grin

welcome and congratulations deepblue
