Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mummynumber2 · 10/11/2010 13:11

FOR not fir! Must read before I post.

X posts wolfcub. I don't think there's ever really a 'right' time to have a baby. I also think your mum will be over the moon once she's got over the I initial surprise of it. Lol and completely in agreement about the banning of google! I've worked out that there's always some story on a site somewhere confirming all my wildest fears!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 10/11/2010 13:15

Sorry another fly by post for me. My friend had a baby girl this morning :)

And my MW appt is next Wednesday not today Angry

Really pissed off, I asked her if it was this Wednesday when it was made, and the problem was I was distracted by DS playing up, if I had twigged then it was the week after I would have asked for an earlier appointment.

God knows when I will get a scan now Angry

wolfcubEm83 · 10/11/2010 13:17

mummy google is the route of all evil, i also googled forceps - DONT!!!

Mummynumber2 · 10/11/2010 13:18

Sorry x posts again!

nurse lol! Good advice to yourself I think! I'm also fairly sure I'm having a boy, no dreams but just have a feeling.

wolfcub I know when I was at uni, in 2 different places, there was a nursery on campus. I think there was a reduced rate for students. Maybe there's something like that at your uni?

yellowtomato · 10/11/2010 13:20

Oh no Kara what a disappointment, must be so frustrating. How far along are you, sorry I can't remember.

And hurrah for your friend having baby girl, how exciting.

I am doing a course as well, it is a one year foundation and it ends 2 weeks after my due date! I guess I'll just have to keep my legs crossed. I haven't told them yet.

Mummynumber2 · 10/11/2010 13:21

Oooh no wolfcub! I'm thankfully not at the researching birth stage yet! Although I am slightly intrigued now....

kara congratulations to your friend! Hope you get the scan sorted soon.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 10/11/2010 13:31

Yellow tomato - I am 9+3 today.

BTW when I was pg with DS, DH kept looking at childbirth videos on Youtube - he was convinced that he needed to prepare because he was worried about fainting in the delivery room!!

wolfcubEm83 · 10/11/2010 13:34

Oh no kara i am so going to do that now!!! Thankfully i am not squeamish at all but my OH is so i can now get back at him for being such a miserable sod and put one on for him when hes eating the tea i cook for him but cant eat as i feel too sick!!

knackered76 · 10/11/2010 13:47

wolfcub - both of mine were 'earlier then planned!'. DS even got through the morning after pill taken within 12 hours, clearly meant to be Grin. My dh didn't seem too involved in the last pregnancy. I only realised this when we went for a scan at 8 weeks and he held my hand when I lay down, I realised I wasn't expecting him too and he hadn't seemed that keen from the start! Glad to say this one is different. Men seem to go a bit overboard on the practical thinking things. DH was obsessed with what car we should get when we had our 3rd. Thankfully this time he has chilled and hasn't mentioned the new car! Not had a cervical stitch but reckon it'll help keeping the baby in so all good (I can say that as a person who hasn't had one :)).

Nurse - told a few close friends and family first time around 6wks. Told all our friends at 8 wks last time but not family until 12wks. Last time told quite a few friends and one side of the family, then had to untell everyone (I cheated and sent a text!). This time 2 friends. Not planning on telling anyone else until after the scan however my belly may soon reveal for me :)

Also doing my second degree at the moment. Have exams on October and hopefully going to get as ahead as possible before the baby arrives . . . . although I have been saying that for a while now and not actually getting any further into it Hmm

The best dreams are the ones after birth I found (first time anyway!). I remember being really f*ed off with dh as he put down dd as her head had fallen off and he hadn't bothered to put it back on. I was just climbing out of bed to put her head back on when I got a grip and realised it wasn't real! I also kept waking him up in the first couple of weeks convinced he was squashing dd (who was in the moses basket) and occasionally asked where the other one was and had he squashed that one as well!!!!

Hmm, just seem the length of my post, must stop putting off my studying . . .

NurseSunshine · 10/11/2010 14:36

Haha knackered your dreams made me lol Grin

wolf yeah the new peer group worries me too, but that's a long way away and just think, you won't mind not going boozing because you'll have your lovely little baby to come home to :) (or, rope in kind friend to babysit so you can go boozing every now and then Grin)

Childcare is dead expensive it's true. Not sure what your circumstances are like but maybe as a student you would be entitles to some help? Worth looking into. My course is funded by the NHS and apparently they pay 85% of my childcare costs which is the only way I could practically manage it. Unless ConDem take that away as well.

wolfcubEm83 · 10/11/2010 14:49

Oooh, im funded by the NHS aswell, i'll look into that - thanks Smile

crumbletastic · 10/11/2010 15:28

Nurse sunshine and wolfcubEm, sorry to put a dampener on things but the NHS pays up to 85% of childcare costs. I was entitled to naff all due to dh income. Sorry to be such a spoilsport about things but the better news is on my NHS funded course harldy anyone qualified for childcare yet still lots of ladies with one or more children were able to continue on the course so its not all bad news.

MoogHasNoBrain · 10/11/2010 15:46

Hi all - just wondered if you have thought about the kind of birth you want yet - or is it too early to think about that??

I am hoping for a homebirth this time round (mostly because with dd the worst part of my labour was travelling to hospital, home and then straight back to hospital again and it was horrible being in the car!)

Phew made it home on the train (about 3 hours) with out throwing up. I'm now firmly parked on the couch, hoping I don't have to go anywhere near the kitchen for a month.

Moogs haven't really thought about a birth plan thingy, but will likely opt for hospital (we rent and want our deposit back!). I am a bit Confused nervous as DS was born in NZ and I had a lovely midwife and was impressed with the level of after care. Here I have a team of midwives and am not so keen on the lack of aftercare. Sure I'll be okay when the time comes though.

MoogHasNoBrain · 10/11/2010 16:14

I haven't though about a birthing pool actually - I wanted that the first time round (in hospital) but didn't have time as labour progressed quickly. Apparently 2nd time can be quicker so I probably won't bother with the pool :o I have heard some lovely positive storied from people who have used a pool though.

Will you go to hospital or a midwife led unit do you think? Agee it might be scary furst time to be at home! I do have some reservations myself about doing it at home..

MoogHasNoBrain · 10/11/2010 16:16

NoMoreChoc are you in the UK now? yes I have been thinking about the mess too - lotsa of plastic sheets I guess !!

8rubberduckies · 10/11/2010 16:20

Nurse just wanted to say that I have also been feeling silly because I have told loads of people already, but being mindful of not telling anyone I would feel awkward telling that I'd mc'd Sad. I told everyone that I knew last time when I found out (although that was at about 7-8 weeks) Blush.

All you ladies worried about your relationship with your dp, especially if baby not planned, our 1st was very much unplanned. In fact, we met in the September and conceived the end of the October Blush. It has been tough at times, as we never really had a chance to get to know eachother before being thrown in the deepend, but it must have worked out ok, as we are now on to number 2! (very much planned).

I read up loads on Active Birth techniques during first pg supersunnyday, I would recommend this book. The beards in some of the photos are brilliant as wellGrin! I was booked in to give birth in a midwife unit but sadly was induced, and then ds had to be monitored throughout labour as he was distressed, and I spent most of it stuck on my back so they could pick up his heartbeat Sad. I will probably have a similar experience this time as I will probably have to have an antibiotic drip as ds caught strep b from me during labour as well Sad, but I am going to be a lot more forceful about being able to position myself how I please this time if I can help it.

motherofsnortpigs · 10/11/2010 16:21

ooh, I'll join in a homebirth discussion! Had our 3rd at home and it was amazing. He was born in the bath. Planning on having this one in there too. Unless you are induced, all births start out at home and then you transfer to hospital. Up to you when/if you go to the hospital :-) Although I believe it's more convenient for your mw's if you have some kind of plan...

8rubberduckies · 10/11/2010 16:26

PS Moog I felt the same as you about homebirth for the first pregnancy. Your local hospital may offer a midwife led unit, which is a nice compromise between the two. Ours has private rooms with a bathroom, a sofa, mats / birthing balls, gas and air available, and, of course, a birthing pool. Then, if you are begging for drugs there are any complications, you can be whipped next door to the normal delivery suite.

motherofsnortpigs · 10/11/2010 16:28

i have no idea how i double posted Blush

deepblue welcome to the thread and congratulations!

moog - I think I will just labour at home for as long as I can (I have 2 or 3 days of pre-labour) and then transfer to hospital when I need gas and air.
My first was induced (after 3 days of contractions because I was 12 days late)so no option of birthing balls/pools etc.
My 2nd was spontaneous labour (again taking 3 days) - went into hospital for last 5 hours and tried the birthing pool when very far along and couldn't stand it so got immediately out again Blush.

Had my booking appt today - a solid hour.
I've refused the downs blood test as usual but we now have a 20 week scan and I'm not sure if this also checks for downs. I don't want to miss out on the scan and I certainly wouldn't do anything about it anyway - not sure about this now...
We also get an anti-d jab later in pregnancy which is another new thing but a good idea I think.

Picked up my bounty pack - it contained:
money off vouchers for sainsbo's, pampers, ovaltine and a couple of others
1 x can appletiser
1 x pampers nappy
1 x sample pack pampers wipes
1 x sample pack dettol spray
1 x galaxy
1 x sachet ovaltine
1 x mini sudocrem
1 x avent breast pads

Not a bad haul I thought Grin
