Hi everyone...sorry not had chance to read back through posts but just wanted to give you the latest news after my fleeting post on Sunday!

Baby Evie was born at 2.45 am on 2nd Nov weighing 7lb 2oz. She's is perfect and I feel so so lucky!!

Didnt all go quite as planned tho!! After the urgency from midwives due to risk if infection to us.....it seems when theyre busy, that doesn't apply!! Basically the delivery suite was full so they weren't able to get me up for an induction and I had to wait on antenatal ward for a bed! They told me I would be going up 6am Sunday morn, which didn't happen as they had an emergency come in! Was then told I would be going up by 8pm so was given prostin tab to start things off! That started working pretty quickly so by 7.30pm I was contracting every 3 mins (in a shared room on antenatal which wasn't ideal!!!) they then came and told me at 8, there was still no room and DH would have to go home!! This set me off in streams of tears as it really wasn't going to be like this in my head!! I had envisaged labouring at home for most of it, then into hospital for the birth pool.....not sharing a room with another lady whilst contracting with no DH around and really bright lights!! Almost discharged myself and went to another hospital and was quickly losing all faith in the NHS! Anyway, was assured they would get me in as soon as the next slot became available and they would ring DH to come back!! Contractions eased off over night as they didn't give me another tab, so woke up Tuesday morn feeling like it had all been a really bad nitemare and i was back to square 1! Eventually got up to delivery suite at 5.30pm (after walking around and around the hospital all day to try to start things off myself!!) and started being induced at 6.45pm! Went from 1cm to fully dilated in 3 hours and out she popped at 2.45am! Was sooo worth it, even tho my faith in the NHS is now somewhat limited!!

Came onto antenatal ward at 6.30am yesterday and tried to get some sleep......to then hear work men drilling the wall literally right next to my room!! Not funny! By the time visitors came I was a blubbering exhausted wreck in lots of pain from the stitches!
Stayed in last but feel loads better this morning and Evie seems to be feeding well now she hasnt got the help of the midwife trying to force her onto my breast, so looks like we should be good to come home today!!

Few.........sorry for the huge post!! Hope all is well with others and looking forward to reading back through what's been happening when I get chance! Bye for now ladies, babies and bumps :)

craftykamo · 03/11/2010 09:35

Congrats to all the ladies and their new arrivals. Bit of an odd one this - anyone have any idea as to how you can "put off" labour? Am now 38 weeks, but DH has been told he's got a huge week at work next week (people coming over from Japan especially to see him) which means that labour, birth and paternity leave would be a bit of a no-go. I'm sure Junior will probably be late anyway and I'm probably worrying over nothing but if there's anything I can do, it would be much appreciated. Though I know that when he decides to arrive there's not much I can do about it!

Also, keep being woken up in the night with quite painful Braxton Hicks, I hardly feel them during the day but at night - ouch. Been using them to practice my breathing techniques, but it's leaving me absolutely shattered. Hope it's not a sign that birth's not far off!

Rinnyx · 03/11/2010 09:39

Sorry to hear you had abit of a nighmare Babybean1 but glad you and baby are doing well, congrats :)

Sorry cant be of any help craftykamo but would love to swap, I am 39weeks & 2 days and DS is still very happy high up rubbing his bum into the right of my ribcage, I am thinking more and more he will end up getting evicted!

PrivetDancer · 03/11/2010 09:42

congratulations babybean!!
Blimey, it sounds like you did have a rough time of it in the hospital though, you poor thing. I ended up labouring in an antenatal ward last time too - not fun at all.

Glad it all turned out well in the end though, saw your pics on facebook and she is absolutely gorgeous :o

Hope you are home soon!

craftykamo - I guess the opposite advice of how to get things moving is what you want! So don't do anything - aim for bedrest levels of activity! and no sex!

Congratulations babybean!

Hello ladies!

It's been a VERY long time since I posted, but have just been reading through this and the last thread and it's so exciting to hear we have quite a few little babs already arrived.

I'm due on Saturday, and it's been heartening to read that there are also people suffering with irritability in these last few weeks. I went our shopping for bedroom lamps yesterday (just finishing touches - our bedroom and nursery have just been decorated and new furniture), and I HATED every single minute of it. I hated being in the car, walking around the shop, being near crowds of strangers, and I just wanted to be home. It was throwing it down with rain too, and I was totally unhappy. Such a relief to get back to the safe confines of a cosy house!

Boris - I've been monitored daily for my BP too for the last 3 weeks, all seems to be OK here, and I hope everything's ticking along nicely your side too.

Come on babies, hurry up now!

Pidgin · 03/11/2010 09:54

hi all

not been on for a while as am internetting less - I've been getting headaches so am trying not to be on the laptop too much. Anyone else having headaches? Doesn't look as though mine are related to high BP, but I am getting them most days on and off and they are annoying.

Sorry to hear about the insomnia, very frustrating.

Congratulations to all the new mummies, lovely to hear your stories, and good luck to those expecting arrivals in the next couple of days. Pidgin Jr is due on Saturday but I think he is going to be late, no twinges yet... I am now the Most Pregnant in my antenatal yoga class, what an honour...

comtessa · 03/11/2010 10:00

Congratulations to babybean1 and welome to little Evie!

How are you feeling now Vix?

(waves to Mad)

So I was waiting for the tram yesterday, in the rain, and a seemingly normal man was standing next to me, also waiting. I tend to stand at the spot marked for wheelchairs as I know the tram doors will be exactly there when the tram stops. Tram arrives, he pushes in front of me to open door, just about sprints inside to grab a vacant seat. Happily for him there was a second vacant seat in that area otherwise there would have been a scene but just Shock at his actions.

Today's pregna-rage (love that term!) was taken out on the bed company we ordered our new bed from back in August. Turns out it's not being delivered tomorrow, it's being collected from their warehouse tomorrow, and being delivered to us next week. That'll be another week on mattress-on-floor then. On the bright side, I got so icily polite with them that they've refunded me the delivery charge of 40GBP. Minor victory, I suppose.

MW appt later, HOPING she'll tell me LO is engaged so fingers crossed (but not legs, arf arf). Hope your MW appt goes well too Lainey

Right, my mum's visiting today so better get the place looking presentable.

Not sure if any Nottinghamians haven't yet seen the meet-up thread but here it is. However, seeing as things are a bit close for a lot of people, would it be better to make it a post-natal one after LOs have arrived? Let me know.

cluelessnchaos · 03/11/2010 10:40

Congrats babybean, that is shocking treatment by the hospital but at least its behind you.

lainey1981 · 03/11/2010 11:56

congratulations babybean, sorry that you didn't get the birth you had planned, but must be worth it now you get to snuggle with little Evie - lovely name btw Smile

comtessa nice pregna-rage channelling! just got back from midwife, all is fine LO is between 3/5 & 2/5 engaged and is well 'tucked' down - so fingers crossed he will stay that way - and thankfully explains why I am walking like there is a melon between me legs Grin

pidgin the headaches are horrid aren't they? I don't know if it's because i am spending all my days chained to my laptop and mumsnet though

she also put my mind a rest and reckons the baby will be between 7-8lb at term - but who knows if that is accurate or not Hmm

sending everyone labour vibes or labour holding off vibes in the case of crafty Wink

x

lainey1981 · 03/11/2010 11:57

pesky baby brain, my post is typed in the wrong order - apologies Blush

lainey1981 · 03/11/2010 11:58

must also lay off the smileys in my posts ....

sarahbuff · 03/11/2010 12:45

So here's where all of you have been! Wondered why it had gone all quiet on the other thread... :) 6 days to go til my EDD (scan date). My SIL came over yesterday to very kindly give me some raspberry leaf tea as I've almost run out and declared "You look like you're about to go! Something about your face. I have an instinct about these things..." Didn't convince me I'm afraid. Not having so much as the odd pain here or there. And anyway my due date based on LMP is actually Nov 16, and all my other babies were more than a week overdue based on the scan dates, so I'd be very surprised if I go before my scan date. Not that I wouldn't love to meet my baby sooner, but I'd hate to give EVERYONE who have been insisting that this baby will come early the satisfaction of being right! Grin Hope everyone is hanging in there and not too fed up.

My pregna-rage this week was taken out (politely) on an 11 year old boy and his friend who were kicking a football around in the kiddies park right next to my 3 DCs (5,4, and 2) and using foul language quite loudly. I was not amused, and sincerely hope he was ashamed after I told him off... Angry

Rinnyx · 03/11/2010 14:41

Hello all, still here and still no signs of DS showing, 5 days till EDD.
I really need to find things to fill my day while DD is at school and DP is working.

Feeling abit fed up and sorry for myself, evil pg hormones Angry
Its DP's 30th Friday and I wanted to take him out for a meal but hes 100% no go about it and said he would rather me cook him a meal, thing is I dont feel like standing in the kitchen at almost 40 weeks cooking him some posh, slap up meal, was kind of hoping if I booked a table sods law would kick in and baby would turn up.
Heres hoping my plan to take DD to see the christmas lights switch on tomorrow will do the job Grin

PrivetDancer · 03/11/2010 15:28

He wants you to cook him a meal? Hmm Angry

Maybe Gordon Ramsay does take away? Wink

grinningbee · 03/11/2010 15:41

Hi all and congratulations to Babybean

It was my 40th birthday yesterday. Boo. I kept blinking crying which I blame on the hormones. Went for a curry which was nice though.

Here's the weirdest bit - I cried my eyes out after opening my cards in the morning. Want to know why? It's so ridiculously daft... none of them had 40 on the front! Blush I am a silly hormonal old sod.

Also saw the mw yesterday, and am still measuring 6 weeks ahead (very uncomfy), and my bp is the opposite to last pregnancy and the lowest it's ever been (to the point of having dizzy spells!).

10 days to go officially, but I won't hold my breath!

Grin
hmmSleep · 03/11/2010 17:04

Congratulations on the birth of Evie Babybean, hope you're both back in the comfort of your own home. I ended up leaving hospital without being officially discharged and had to go in the next day to collect my notes etc. couldn't bare the thought of another night in there for no reason other than my discharge papers hadn't been done!

Lottie has managed to catch a cold from her big brother and sister, poor little thing. I called nhs direct to see if I needed to see a gp as she has conjunctivitis, and they asked 'what's conjuncti-whatever?' Hmm.

Also not suffering from pregnarage, but the postpregnarage is going strong! No sleep for 2 weeks, 3 sick kids and Dh has just called to say his meeting has only just finished in London, so seeing as he'd be late back anyway he's going for a few beers before getting the train, alright for some!

Happy 40th birthday grinningbee Grin (hope the bold 40 makes you feel a bit better)

mumcha · 03/11/2010 19:11

hi all well i had my little boy[he has no name yet]at 3.51 this morning. The birth was awful went to the hospital at 12.30 they checked and said i 3cm still and were going to send me home .But as baby was back to back they let me stay as they said it will be very painful and once i got to 4cm they woul give me an epidural. So i went up to the wards at 3 to wait for a space to open on delivery ward ,contractions were coming every minute and a half.Went to the loo i was covered in blood so they checked me i was 8cm i screamed i needed to push they checked again and i was 10 cm pushed him out within 6 mins without any pain relief at all from start to finish never again.so glad to be home.

harmonyb23 · 03/11/2010 19:15

What a palaver you had at the hospital BabyBean but at least you and Evie are well!!

I have managed to contract a cold. I have had a sore throat the last few days and am now feeling pretty yucky. Not exactly what you want when you are knackered and trying to look after a newborn. Have included a picture of Baby Aiden here if anyone fancies a look-see!

Have been panicking the last couple of days as Midwife was concerned Aiden was not putting on enough weight. He lost 6.2% of his birth weight while in hospital and a further 20g between days 3 and 5. Luckily he has now started piling on weight again, put on 20g between Sunday and Tuesday and put on a further 50g between yesterday and today. So glad things are moving in the right direction and that he is breastfeeding well (fed for 45 minutes at last feed).

Hope everyone else is doing well!! x x x

hmmSleep · 03/11/2010 19:58

Well done mumcha, sounds painful! Congratulations on your little boy Smile.

Aiden is gorgeous harmony! Lottie looks like a gremlin, a very cute one of course, and is (whispers) ginger Shock.

comtessa · 03/11/2010 20:45

Congratulations mumcha! But good grief, the lack of pain relief...

My mum was visiting today and we did a Mothercare trip to pick up the last few things.

Sheets, muslins, cellular blankets, sleepsuits, rocking moses basket stand, change mat, fleece blanket (already had basket and static stand) and a lovely pair of PJs for me. Feeling very spoilt. Also had MW appt and it looks like LO won't be arriving any time soon, but then am 36+4 so a little way to go and, in fact, relieved that I've hopefully got a little more time to get the new house straight (including bed!) before everything changes.

Anyway, off to report to MIL now, PIL arriving from US next week but like to be kept updated.

Hope everyone's feeling well and managing to get some rest.

llandb · 03/11/2010 21:50

Quick hello to say congrats to new mummies and good luck to those waiting! :)

Another one who can't face looking at screen during my MN-ing time due to all this lurverly pre-labour fun; hoping to catch up though :)

PrivetDancer · 03/11/2010 22:06

Congratulations mumcha!!

Sounds pretty intense. There seem to have been quite a few quick labours on here.

Congratulations mumcha and babybean
It sounds like you both needed to be very brave but now have wonderful little bundles to make it all worthwhile. Hope you can enjoy the babies

Overcrowded hospitals Sad. Something is afoot. I don't know if it's all the Valentines babies or it's just a busy month but even at the private one we will be at they were full 10 days ago and are now threatening to boot us out early if they need the beds.

Boris hang in there - just a few more days and it sounds like you are going to make it. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you.

LO is now confirmed for 16 Nov by c-section. We went to see the consultant Monday after a slightly scary weekend - hence no postings. The doctor couldn't do the scan Friday as he rushed to the ward. The sonographer found her breech and with the cord twice around her neck, her head tight against the placenta. She told me not too worry but then when I got home I got the call from the consultant's assistant telling me he looked at the scan pictures and asked me to come in for monitoring over the weekend. So we spent 3 hours there on Sunday morning - I thought it was just going to be a doppler check but no they meant the full shabang. And they made us wait for two hours for it to start and then said it'd be 20 minutes but was over an hour. LO was wriggling away fro the sensors and going crazy so, of course, they were picking up my heartbeat instead and setting off the alarms and necessitating 15 more minutes over and over again.

Consultant won't try and ECV with the cord there so it's a caesarian. Unless of course the little monster Wink turns at the last minute.

Fenouille best of luck. Hey maybe by the time I write this the LO will have popped!

On perineal massage I asked the consultant if it made sense for me in case LO turns. He said it was "NONSENSE". Apparently the type of muscle down there is formed of hundreds of fibres (he showed me on a booklet of testing strips) which face the openings so they will not stretch before time unless you actually damage them. But, he said, during labour our bodies release some amazing chemicals which break down the bonds between these pesky muscles and this allows them to stretch/expand their surface areas at the right time. So your comments about taking the (right) time to push and doing it slowly sound spot on.

Visual: look at a closed book (pages together) and then open and flip through it, allowing the pages to come loose.

blondecat · 03/11/2010 22:15

Oops forgot to ask a TMI question

For those who have done it before - shave or wax before a c-section? Or do nothing and let the hospital do the job?
