smokeybacon, I am in aberdeenshire so not QMC, my consultant has been brilliant when I have managed to see him. Mine said yesterday that that was the last time I would see him even if induced unless things were going badly wrong in the meantime, I keep meaning to ask where you are BORIS I saw in one of your posts that you were in hampshire, I had my last baby down south and loved my consultant and midwife who delivered me.

JFly · 02/11/2010 13:07

Commiserations to insomniacs. I'm not having much trouble sleeping, but am now up twice in the night to wee. Could really do without that, but could be worse.

Boris, have you tried hypnotherapy to help with sleep? Have a MN hypnotherapist friend who has some free stuff on her website that might help. Will PM you with address. You will need some rest before labour!

Fenouille, are you 40+6 or 41+6? Got confused by how over you are. Seems early for induction if the former. But you aren't in UK, are you?

Good luck for inductions. And for those "overdue" don't forget (and I'm sure the MWs will remind you) that you aren't technically overdue until 42 weeks! Shock It is a very long wait, though, trust me I know. You have my sympathies. Hang in there and keep busy, but not too busy - life won't be quite the same after the baby. :)

smokeybacon · 02/11/2010 13:38

Sorry clueless I obviously had it in my head you were Notts. You couldn't be further away!!

sancerrre · 02/11/2010 13:48

I'll second JFly's suggestion of hypnobirthing CDs for sleeping. I've only managed to stay awake till the end of mine a couple of times. And being up 4 to 6 times a night for a wee, getting to sleep quickly and efficiently in between is quite a priority!

Threelittleducks · 02/11/2010 14:30

Sorry for all the ladies suffering insomnia - was one of the worst things for me near the end. It''s crazy isn't it? Waiting for a baby and can't sleep - have an actual baby and want to do nothing but sleep! What kind of cruel trick of nature is this!?

Just hang on to how rubbish you feel now - makes it seem sooooo much better when it's all over - promise!
Also helps with post-partum niggles.
(As in, my bits are killing me, but at least I can walk without spd pain, sleep when I need to and breathe freely!)

Cheering you all on!! xxx

BorisTheBold · 02/11/2010 14:40

Hi all,

Been out since 8.30am - wish I could go to bed for an hour, but got to pick up DCs in 15 mins grrr!

BP is within limits at present and only 1+ of protien during today's check (yay!) so all good-ish at the moment.

Smokey - like your hint for wine, although I'm not a wine fan. I may have to subsitute for something else Grin. Also, I think we all need to know the safety shoe story - as soon as possible please!!

Mibby sounds like every HV I've met...Hmm. Although you never know, she may be very good once your lo arrives.

Lula - I'm with you in spirit, I have a deep loathing for all decorating related tasks...especially glossing.

Clueless - wish I was in Aberdeenshire, wanna swap? Am a transplanted Scot living on the edge of the New Forest. Hythe area - anywhere near where you were?

JFly thanks for the pm, I'll have a look after school pick up. Although, I suppose there's one silver lining in that I wont need a huge amount of energy for the birth since it's going to be an ELCS.4

Any news from Fenouille?

Jenni363 · 02/11/2010 16:47

Hope you don't mind TMI question... But have you all been doing your perineum massage...? I tried it few times but just can't bring myself to do it... It's so uncomfortable!

And there is no way I will let my DP to do it Blush.. I'm wondering if it really will make a difference to the birth if I do it or not...?

cluelessnchaos · 02/11/2010 16:55

Jenni363 I have never done it and never torn i think a steady second stage is the key. Boris I was further north near hook and I still really miss it so I am fine for the swap.

hmmSleep · 02/11/2010 17:51

Jenni363, I agree with clueless, I didn't bother and didn't tear. I think alot of it is down to luck, but a steady second stage definitely the key! You have to try, (much easier said than done!) to push only when you're ready, and try and do it in a controlled almost gentle manner, letting your body do the work. What I didn't realise the first time is you're not so much pushing, your body is pushing of it's own accord, and you have to try and control it. Not easy when you're out of it with pain and drugs, I definitely pushed too hard with poor ds!

PrivetDancer · 02/11/2010 17:55

I haven't been doing the perineal massage either. I did last time (and didnt tear) but I don't think I ever did it properly as you can't really reach so I can't be bothered this time around!

OP posts:
umf · 02/11/2010 18:28

I don't do the perineal massage either. Not at all convinced it works, on basis of friends' experiences. The pregnarage part of me says it's just another way of making women feel responsible for inadequacies of obstetric care - the midwife is crucial in making sure crowning happens gently.

And, well, I can't reach! Bump and spd far too awkward.

Vix7 · 02/11/2010 19:00

this may be a daft question but what the hell do contractions feel like?

i've been getting short bouts of severe backpains since early this morning. was quite few and far between to begin with, but in the past few hours they've been coming in more frequently. doesn't last long, 2min tops but usu < 1min.

it's so painful i can't walk and it's all i can do to get on all fours into the cat pose.

i've tried putting a hot water bottle on the back, lying on my side, leaning against a pile of cushions. the pain goes away after a while and i'm fine then. but then it strikes again out of nowhere and that's it for me.

JFly · 02/11/2010 19:08

They feel like that, Vix! But, so can BH. Confused

Are they getting stronger as well as more frequent? Call labour ward if you are worried, but 3 contractions in 10 minutes is what they look for for active labour IIRC.

Start timing them. If they've gone on since early morning this could be it!

JFly · 02/11/2010 19:09

Oh, and if you have a gym ball, have a bounce/sit on that. I remember it took the pressure off the pelvis. Also, sitting on the loo was a bit more comfortable for me, just before I decided it was time to go to hospital!

harmonyb23 · 02/11/2010 19:10

Congratulations Ebb and Babybean

All is well here, baby Aiden is feeding well and despite being early, has now started to put on some weight. Had DP family over to stay the last two days and am now feeling knackered. Have been out for a walk, which made my stitches slightly sore but it was good to get out of the house. Going to get an early night tonight (hopefully). How is everyone else getting on with new baby's?

Hope all is well with those still expecting, I wish you all the best!!! x x x

mumcha · 02/11/2010 19:40

hi all well my waters evenyually broke at half 3 today and it was a huge gush .I went to the hospital and they confirmed it but sent me home as im not to far away,so if i dont have baby tonight ive to go at half 7 in the morning :).

Wallace · 02/11/2010 20:58

Good luck, mumcha and Vix sounds like it!

Rinnyx · 02/11/2010 21:03

Oh good luck mumcha :)

Fenouille · 02/11/2010 21:43

Good luck mumcha

I've spent all day at hospital but nothing happening yet. If my cervix is ready tomorrow I'll get the oxytocin first thing tomorrow so fingers crossed (or rather fingers crossed that something happens tonight all by itself :/ )

For jfly I'm in France and they calculate one extra week than in the UK. They induce at roughly the same point, it's just that in the France it feels really soon after the EDD as you're effectively already 1 week overdue according to the British system.

I have no idea if any of that made any sense as this sitting and waiting is sending me slightly batty.

Good night all of you and hopefully I'll have some baby news soon.

PrivetDancer · 02/11/2010 22:02

Good luck vix, fen and mumcha!
There should be a few more babies tomorrow then! :o

OP posts:
JFly · 02/11/2010 22:19

I think I get it, Fen. :) It is a bit challenging for a pregnant brain, though.

Good luck for tomorrow, all of you. (And Vix, hope you're well on your way!)

bunnygirl80 · 02/11/2010 22:35

Good luck fen and mumcha

Hope something's happening for you too vix

umf · 02/11/2010 22:54

Good luck fen, mumcha and vix!

SiL had c-section today, all well, big boy. They tried prostaglandin gel for induction but it didn't work. Her cervix wasn't ripe, so they didn't try syntocynin (sp?) drip, just sliced. I'm sure that was better than putting her through painful induction with high risk of emcs.

cluelessnchaos · 03/11/2010 07:49

Good luck fen mumcha and vix, can't wait to hear your updates.

Jenni363 I just remembered the best bit of advice when it came to the pushing stage, it will feel like you are burning and tearing I dont know if it's true but I was told that as long as I could feel the burn I hadn't torn, it really helped me, otherwise I think I would have held back more or push to hard. The feeling is kind of like when you stretch your mouth too far open.

lainey1981 · 03/11/2010 08:45

lots of luck to fen mumcha & vix hope you have your babies v soon Smile

off to the midwife this morning, and hoping she will tell me he is fully engage and I am fully dilated & one push &he'll be out! Wink

one more night of waking up every 45mins in pain and to go for a wee and i may lose the plot more than I (and DP) think I am lol
