Congratulations Babybean, Mumcha and Vix!

Lovely name Mumcha. ( Ds's name also. Grin )
Sorry your birth was traumatic Vix

Babybean I did worry about you with the hospital being full and shut. Glad it all went well and looking forward to meeting Evie.

Abbie is doing well. She's lost quite a bit of weight but she was really sicky for a couple of days. Now my milk is in she's far more settled. She's sucking with the force of a small dyson which is a little sore but she is feeding very well. She seems to like to cluster feed from 11pm to 3am Hmm so need to work on that but she's so scrumptious.

Good luck to all those waiting.

umf · 04/11/2010 16:55

Glad to hear Abbie doing well Ebb. Had forgotten how hard they suck - DS managed to get a sneaky latch on DH's nipple once in the early days, and DH actually screamed.

Loooopy · 04/11/2010 17:56

now 38+5 and my waters have just broken. Not had any dramatic contractions like you see on the telly, just a general uncomfortable feeling going on, and tummy is rock hard.

Anyone who has already had a baby, how long before you got noticeable contractions? Does it build up from general uncomfortable to specific pains? or will it suddenly kick in?

V Nervous but happy as it means all being well we will get the home birth we want!! (were threatened with a hospital one if baby hadn't arrived by 40 weeks)

PrivetDancer · 04/11/2010 18:00

hmm well it took me about 36 hours from waters going to contractions starting, hope it doesn't take you that long! Is good you're already feeling uncomfortable though (well you know what I mean..) - hopefully things will start building up soon. don't do anything too relaxing - I had a shower and am convinced that stopped the labour getting going.

Have you called the labour ward to send someone out for initial check?
best of luck!!

but if nothing is happening later, for goodness sake please try and go to bed and get to sleep as you might wake up in labour in the early hours, so sleep if you possibly can

OP posts:
Loooopy · 04/11/2010 18:15

i've not been able to sleep since March lol....and this last week has been the worst ever - if i get half an hour-hour at a time i've been doing well!!

Went to bed this afternoon as was shattered to try and sleep, and look what happened!!

I thought we were meant to phone when getting contractions? Confused now, seen 4 different midwives and wondering if i've been given duff info?

hmmSleep · 04/11/2010 18:51

Good luck Loooopy! my waters went 11.30 Sunday night, mild contractions started 11.30 Monday night, gradually got stronger, closer together and more painful. Would say they got very painful around 3.30 / 4am, Lottie born 6:25. Hope everything goes smoothly!

lainey1981 · 04/11/2010 19:18

oooh how exciting, good luck Loooopy hope things get moving quickly.

I want my waters to break, preferably in a gush so there's no mistaking it. DP has made me agree to keep DS inside until at least the 12th Nov (due 21st according to scan, 13th according to me) - I have no doubt he'll still be there on 1st Dec.

can't believe we have so many babies already and it's only the 4th - have visions of me wandering this thread alone waiting to pop while you are all off on post-natal!

blondecat · 04/11/2010 19:54

Good luck Loopy I'd call the MWs just in case.
A friend (due Snday) enlightened me today - it's all the SNOW babies being born after last winter so hospitals/MWs are extremely busy - if you call now you will be on their radar for when you need them.

BorisTheBold · 04/11/2010 21:00

Hi all,

Just a note to say ELCS booked for tomorrow. DP and I to be at hosp for 7.30am and I am due to be second section of the day.

Having a late dinner in a min, before going for a sensual shower using the hospital anti-MRSA scrub Grin. All being well, I could be discharged within 48 hours, but if that's the case I think I'll try for a couple of days at the local birth unit to give new arrival and I some time alone before descending on the rest of our household.

Dd1 (5) is wavering between being upset that I wont be around and being delighted that she's going to a party, bonfire do and a sleepover when I'm in hospital. DD2 (4) is harder to work out, I reckon she'll not be as vocal as her sister, but will miss me more - at least one of them wont replace me that easily ha ha ha!

Sorry, I haven't done any personals - but you lot seem to have posted loads today - typical Wink. Congrats to all new arrivals and get a move on to those who are overdue (or who have had enough already).

Hopefully be posting again early next week with some photos etc. Unless the insomnia raises it's ugly head again tonight = in which case I'll be back to do those personals ;)

bunnygirl80 · 04/11/2010 21:24

Good luck loopy and boris

lainey sorry to hear about your family dramas - bad at the best of times yet alone in late pg

umf glad to hear your brother has turned up

vix hope you're recovering after what sounds like a traumatic time

Had my 38 week appt yesterday - BP is up, but just under the cut off for needing to go in for montioring. I'm blaming DH for it though - he came to the appointment with me but managed to arrange an important work phone call for exactly the same time as we needed to leave to get there. So we ended up leaving the house late, me giving DH a taste of my pregnarage, and arriving at the appointment feeling stressed. He is now banned from coming to any more appointments with me Grin

Fenouille · 04/11/2010 21:26

Congrats to all the other new mums. Einar Thomas was born on the 3rd at 7.12pm. Another less than perfect birth experience here, also ending with forceps so my commiserations Vix. Agree with JFly though that birth plan was ultimately useful for communicating stuff when things were starting to go wrong.

Anyway, essential is that we both made it and we're now enjoying life as 3!

Good luck all those with things happening imminently.

balijay · 04/11/2010 21:47

Congratulations Fen - sorry about the forceps though, its just the way it goes sometimes. Enjoy your new baby!

Also good luck to those with promising signs of labour.

Nothing much to report here at 38 weeks.. swinging between wanting to get on with it and dreading labour. Also slightly depressed at the thought I could be pregnant for another 4 weeks. So long as nothing happens tomorrow night when we will be staying overnight in Birmingham 3 hours away Smile

blondecat · 04/11/2010 23:01

Felicitations fenouille

Rest and enjoy your new bathroom

PrivetDancer · 04/11/2010 23:08

Congrats fen and good luck boris

loopy hope things have got going for you! It's a bit late to answer you now, but I was told for homebirth to let them know when waters go, just to give them a heads up

Pidgin · 05/11/2010 08:09

Congratulations Fenouille! And good luck to Boris and Loopy.

Well I had reflexology yesterday and walked for about two hours and spent most of the evening on all fours and still no baby! What gives?!

cluelessnchaos · 05/11/2010 08:35

Good luck to all those having there babies today, I am feeling sorry for myself after I slipped on a patch of moss hurt my knee, did the splits and really hurt my pride. There I was pulling off cool pregnant women then I had a crowd of people helping me up and brushing me down . My pelvis is killing me and I am pissed off because I prefer to deliver kneeling and my knee is now twice the size it was.

JFly · 05/11/2010 08:37

Congratulations, Fen! Sorry things didn't go to plan.

Good luck, Boris! Not envious of your MRSA shower. Smile

Pidgin, I hate to say it, but I had many, many reflexology treatments in the last weeks. Nada. But the day before I went into labour I had a very intense acupuncture session. Can't say if it was the treatment or if it was just "time" but I went into labour less than 18 hours after appointment. (2 weeks late, I might add!!)

Blondecat, my CS was emerg, so I think they did what the had to do in theatre. I'm sure you'll have an appointment before your date to go over stuff like that. I have been told I'll go in 5 days prior to ELCS (should I have to go that route) and get antibiotics, bloodwork, etc. I suspect you can ask them then.

Pidgin · 05/11/2010 08:49

JFly nooo, say it ain't so! To be fair as it was my first treatment she said she wouldn't give me the full whack around the uterus/ pituitary gland areas in case it was 'too much for me'. I felt like pointing out that she was only fiddling with my feet for goodness' sake, what's the worst that can happen, but I guess that's the wrong attitude...

But acupuncture, interesting...

umf · 05/11/2010 10:17

Congratulations, Fenouille! Forceps sound v nasty, but glad baby well and has such a nice name!

Loooopy hope it all kicks in soon.

All the best for tomorrow, Boris!

Quite a lot of painful-ish but minor contractions here in the last few days. Yesterday morning woke up with them at 0430 and thought labour might be starting, but they wore off. Mostly only affecting lowest part of tummy, so I'm figuring they're just practice contractions. Don't know if they imply labour will be sooner rather than later. But only 37+5 or so and still much too busy to have baby! People keep saying "oo you must be really fed up, bet you can't wait now!". But I could wait very happily for another week or two. Or three.

lulastic · 05/11/2010 11:04

More babies and breaking waters! Congrats all!

Oh dear clueless I am sorry about your fall, hope your knee comes right really fast. I fell over on the train, for no reason though, that was rubbish.

All quiet here, carpet being laid as I speak, painting all done. Tonight we will have a house resembling a home and at that point I will feel happy with any labour like happenings!

Vix7 · 05/11/2010 12:23

Good luck to all of you starting labour! Hope you won't hv to go thru what I did.
Dunno abt fen but am still in hospital as baby has suspected infection. Can I just say hospital food reputation is justly deserved. Past few hot meals hv been all microwaved reheated stuff. Bleaurgh.

BorisTheBold · 05/11/2010 15:20

Cooooeeee!!

Feck feck feckity feck feck feck.

Up all night with thoughts of today's ELCS. Into hosp at 7.30am, gowned, blood tests done, consent form signed, chat with anaethstist , chat with consultant. All good to go into theatre, then final scan shows that the little bugger has flipped and is now head down.

Cue Boris and DP wavering between being happy that major surgery isn't required (with any additional complications) and gutted that baby wont be making an appearance any time soon. Also concerned that pre-eclampsia may get worse and that a VD may culiminate in shoulder dystocia again. Consultant advised that the SD should be less of a risk, since they know to expect it this time and that a senior obstrician will be made available throughout labour and delivery (not sure if I believe that though...).

So back home for the moment, with a return to the hosp next Monday and Weds for pre-eclampsia monitoring and possible inducment nearer edd (next Friday).

Pretty pissed off and miserable at the moment, but am sure I'll feel better tomorrow.

B

comtessa · 05/11/2010 15:54

Congratulations to Fen! Out of interest, what does Einar mean?

Oh Boris, what a let down. But, as you say, good that major surgery currently averted. Hope you manage to take it easy over the weekend.

No news on the baby front here, just the usual wrigglings but she's EDD isn't for another three weeks, so no rush there. Just having a break before getting on with sorting house for tonight's housewarming.

Happy Friday all!

AddictedIsAMummy · 05/11/2010 18:30

congratulations fen

oh boris, you must be feeling pretty fed up now

vix hope you get home soon
