You can tell I'm feeling positive today... my next idea was "Let the heartburn begin"

Chloe55 · 25/10/2005 10:37

Hee hee, I know what you mean though - good time for being preggers coz we can hide under big baggy jumpers and be all warm and cosy. Will miss not being able to get merry over the festive period though but I guess I'll be merry enough without the alcohol (well, that's what I'm trying to tell myself anyway!) Once xmas has been and gone it won't be long, I still can't believe I'm 24 weeks, where did all that time go?

Bewitched · 25/10/2005 10:49

But flame - you and Frizbe have advantage of not being on your first, so they might actually be on time or even early. So you could have yours 2 weeks early, and I'll have mine 2 weeks late, and then they can be birthday buddies . I think if any boys are born on 14th then they should be called Valentino . Chloe - see what your DH thinks of that for his miracle son .

Not keen on the heartburn idea either, but you are making me smile today - was just having a giggle at your suggestions on the house like a tip thread!

Chloe55 · 25/10/2005 10:57

Funny you should say that Tabs, a friend and I were discussing about the possibility of ds being born on Feb 14th and we thought how horrible it would be for his future girlfriend because he will be out celebrating his birthday when he should be wining and dining! Also how crap would that be for me and DH? Bang goes our Valentine's night for the next few years

flamebat · 25/10/2005 11:25

Hmmm.... I was 4 weeks over with DD - I don't forsee any early appearances here!!!!!!!!!!

My sister is desperate for it to be on time (her birthday is 24th), but I'd like it a week or so early, or a week or so late - I already have one the day before my godson's birthday, if this one is on time, it will be within days of my goddaughter's (same family!!!)

3k · 25/10/2005 11:26

Morning Ladies,

Hope you are all ok.

I went to see midwife yesterday and she kindly pointed out I have a few stretchies coming and she said it so smugly I could have punched her! I looked last night and they are old ones I have had since a teen and they are on my hips. They are looking a bit bigger and more noticable but that is obviously because my belly is stretching them out. I think I may have my first red one coming on my lower belly though.

Also have a rash all over my stomach so she wants me to see the GP later today, she thinks it is a pregnancy rash whatever that is. It is itchy though so the doc may give me some cream to settle it down.

Went shopping last night at Sainsburys ans I bought a pack of 3 blue sleepsuits reduced from £9.99 to £4.49 - a real bargain!! I also bought some baby wipes buy one get one free, some pampers as a friend gave me some vouchers that needed using by end of month and some colic drops and calpol!!! I want to be organised and have a little medicine cupboard too. Oh and some nappy sacks!! My spare room is so full you can hardly move in there.

flamebat · 25/10/2005 11:26

I'm envious of you 24 weekers too - with all these aches and pains, its really brought it home to me the 24 week rule with hospitals... even though I know that it is just me aching, and not baby issues, I keep having it run through my mind - if my baby is born now, and comes out breathing, that they will let it die

flamebat · 25/10/2005 11:28

How bloody rude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You don't tell a woman about her stretch marks!!!

3k · 25/10/2005 11:31

Wont they help a baby at 24 weeks if it is breathing? I'm sure I read on the net somewhere that a baby was born at 23 weeks and survived. I'll be 26 weeks on Thursday, roll on 30 weeks as I think I will relax a bit then. What is a good age for babies to survive?

I know my midwife is usually nice but she made a few comments at me yesterday. She also criticised my idea of breastfeeding and expressing at one appointment as she said I wouldnt be able to do both!

teuch · 25/10/2005 11:33

hello all - thankfully it has stopped raining here for a few hours - since none of my coats actually shut I have had a wee (big!) damp bump for days!! Oh well, baby will live on a very wet 'n' windy island so s'pose he should get used to it...

anyway, new thread would be good to get the latest stats...how about big jumper brigade or something?

I am having very 'boy' inclinations so I am sure I will be helping to balance out the stats!

still lots of braxton hicks here (26wks) but less cramps and pains.

flamebat · 25/10/2005 11:37

Its from 24 weeks onwards that they will help here. I hate it, to my mind if something is breathing, then it deserves a chance. One woman I know heard her child cry once

3k · 25/10/2005 11:42

Ahhh that's awlful, how many weeks are you flame?

Chloe55 · 25/10/2005 11:42

I didn't know that I knew that a baby much before 24 weeks would struggle enormously but I didn't know that the docs wouldn't give him/her the chance to survive. I must admit, particularly in light of what has happenend, I feel a little more relieved now I'm at 24 weeks. Saying that I couldn't wait to get to 12, then it was 16, then 20, then 24 and now I will be happier when I reach 30 weeks! I don't think you ever feel completely settled about the whole thing

Bewitched · 25/10/2005 11:48

I think the problem is that there is such a tiny chance of survival under 24 weeks that the NHS can't afford to 'waste' scarce resources on helping them. Even at 24 weeks I think it's just a 50:50 chance isn't it? My friend had triplets last year at 24.5 weeks and they all died, one after 6 months in hospital .

We're turning very morbid now aren't we.

I like teuch's idea for the thread name - 'the big jumper brigade'. Would everyone else be happy with that?

Chloe55 · 25/10/2005 11:53

Sorry all I can think about is jumping off bridges being the big jumper brigade

flamebat · 25/10/2005 11:58

I was thinking of bridges too.... Big sweaters? Snuggly cardy?

Chloe55 · 25/10/2005 12:01

Not sweaters! That makes us sound like we don't wash!

teuch · 25/10/2005 12:05

lol big jumpers...like lemmings - the pg hormones must be interfering with my lateral thinking!

I have been very guilty of the old catastrophising and worrrying - I read about Horseshoe (another mnetter) and I can't get it out of my head .

I mentioned that I still had about 14wks of worry left to my mum and she just cackled (rather cruelly I thought ) and reminded me that's when the worry REALLY begins!

at least we will all be well-practiced by then...

teuch · 25/10/2005 12:06

big woollies...too sheepy?

flamebat · 25/10/2005 12:17

Too sheepy. Hate people to think of us as being sheepish

Due Feb 06 - Our coats won't do up!!!

thell · 25/10/2005 12:22

Hello chaps.
Feeling a bit grumpy today.
I've spent literally days reading websites and books from the library about home births and waterbirths, but last night DH suddenly had a freak out about it. Being a squeamish type who doesn't even like to think about bodily functions, he's a bit frightened about the birth anyway, but he doesn't realise how common water births are and thinks I'm doing something weird. I was on my way out to see a mate at the time (timing!!), so quickly explained I was making a medical decision to try for the safest birth possible, not just being a hippy earth mother, gave him a book and left him searching the web. I'm sure after that sesh and a chat tonight he'll be ok again, but it's annoying - he does this regularly; leaves me to make a decision and distances himself then suddenly becomes the voice of doom!!
Incidentally I was explaining all this to my friend - she interrupted and said 'Of course you're doing it because you're a hippy - it's part of your charm!!'

Sorry - rant over!
I'll spend a bit more time reading the homebirth website later to cheer me up.

I've actually got one of the 'Homebirth Diaries' videoed to show DH - but may have to choose my moment carefully!!

Flame - I like that thread title- simple but effective

flamebat · 25/10/2005 12:26

Have you been on homebirthUK? Its a yahoo group, and they chat about all aspects of it.

Oooh, got a link with figures of safety of homebirths somewhere too... will have a hunt

I had water for DD (at hospital), just because I felt I might as well give it a go if it was on offer, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made - I know I haven't tried a non-water birth, but I had a great birth experience.

flamebat · 25/10/2005 12:27

good news for natural birth

Chloe55 · 25/10/2005 12:31

Thell you sound just like me! I would be keen for a waterbirth having read so many amazing birth stories regarding them but DH mum is an old school midwife and she isn't keen. She says ultimately it is obviously my decision but she worries about shoulders getting stuck under water. I will def labour in water (providing the pool is free) and if I choose to stay there then I will! DH is pretty trad too so he is having a go saying waterbirths are not natural blah blah blah, then tells me I should take all the drugs going - I'm all for it if I feel the need but I don't think that's natural either - bloody hypocrite! Would be interested to know if you get a good argument from all the text you are reading Thell so I can show it to my DH too.

JuA · 25/10/2005 12:40

NO more sad stories about babies coming early please! I have just seen my consultant who decided that it would be a good idea to give me steroids in case the babies came early!! This has really freaked me out - I have no intention of these babies arriving before Christmas - I have too much to do! and the midwife was a bit off too - she asked me why I was there err cos it was when I was told to make the appt?! I then realsied she had not bothered to look at my notes so didn't know I was having twins.
All in all I was the the hospital for 2 hours and came away feeling slightly depressed.

but I did manage to fasten my coat up against the driviing rain - but only just!
