TicTac · 21/10/2005 13:58

Congrats Kando!!

As for names, well we are having a girl and we are struggling to add names to a list so happy for suggestions. At the minute we have:

Daisy
Poppy
Emily
Harriett (DH hates it though)

thell · 21/10/2005 14:13

Names I like but can't use;
Leah
Lucy (both too close to my name)
Eliza
Eleanor
Ellen
Emily (all 'E' names!)
Georgia
Georgina (one of my best friends has a boy called George)
Nancy (certainly not with Male!)

I love Olivia & Lauren. And considering Simone.
Simon and Oliver were on our list for boys!

TicTac · 21/10/2005 14:16

Do you find that when you think of a name you always associate it to someone you know/ knew?

Ellenor - new one from college...sher was v. "special"

Ellen - as in De'generes...the gay comedian

Anyway...I like the names. I seam to be going for 5 letters and ending in a "y"

thell · 21/10/2005 14:33

When I first started teaching I thought it would ruin all good names for me forever! But it seems to have worn off the more children I meet. It's more of a prob for DH - he keeps saying 'No, I knew one of those and she was horrible,...'

My friend's Mum was a Nursery teacher, and picked Jennifer because it was the only girls' name she could think of that she hadn't taught.

More names I like but I wouldn't use because of close friends ;

Jennifer
Vanessa
Kate
Daisy
Judy
Sonia

Molly is quite a good 'y' name.
Or Amy ?

3k · 21/10/2005 14:41

Or Kelly you could name her after me

thell · 21/10/2005 14:44

Tabs - I think Amelia Stone would be fine. It's not too 'Miles' ish.

Maybe the French Amelie, to soften it if you're really worried.

flamebat · 21/10/2005 15:11

Sorry!!! I was at a friend's for the morning, and just seen midwife.

I was aching for the rest of yesterday, but not hurting... paracetamol and a hot bath helped soooo much, and today i'm just back to normal aches. I had a whole nights sleep .

Midwife appointment was all fine and normal. She says that I can take the gaviscon tablets (just take like normal pills), so I now love her.

Names.... we got nothin - we're not trying to talk about it too much because I really don't want a set name in my head. I love Isobel, but DH hates it... he suggested Phoebe the other day, but I'm going off that. I'm still feeling more boy-ish so not finding anything interesting in girls names. I love Emrys for a boy (it was the plan for DD if she was a boy), but DH has gone off it .

Chloe55 · 21/10/2005 15:17

I had loads of girls names - I liked Ava, Molly, Milly, Bethany, Hope and a few more. Only got one for a boy so far which I'm not sharing yet because everyone manages to put me off names whatever I say! We did like Oliver but gone off that now. DH likes Jacob.

Glad you are better Flame.

Chloe55 · 21/10/2005 15:23

Flame - get on the Amanda thread. Ooh that was bossy of me

3k · 21/10/2005 15:26

Chloe- we had loads of girls names picked out then bub turned out to be a boy!! We still like Ben, have suggested a few others but we cant agree on anything else so I reckon it will be Ben when he is born.

He is kicking loads today, its great watching your belly move isn't it!!

Frizbe · 21/10/2005 15:29

Hi all

Flame glad your feeling ok now, phew.

Jasnem/Chloe, Chiropractors are also very good for dealing with back probs, just let them know your pregnant, I highly recommend going to either a chiro or osteo after you give birth, to get clicked back into place!!

FD, will mail you but YES a girl!!

Kando, congrats on your girl

Bewitched your right anged hasn't posted in ages, nor has SC?

Frizbe · 21/10/2005 15:37

oooh girls names that I can't use.....cause dh won't let me! and a few random ones thrown in...

How's about:

Romilly
Estelle
Elise
Imogen
Lorna
Isla
Erin
Alice
Esther
Scarlett (cause I won't let dh have this one)
India
Rhiannon
Hazel
April
Megan
Miranda

Think we're going for Poppy cause its the only one we can both agree on!

Chloe55 · 21/10/2005 15:38

Yeah I was wondering where Space Cadet is.

Bewitched · 21/10/2005 15:49

Thell - the prob with Amelia is more that people will shorten it to Mil - giving us Millstone! Plus we are having Rose as a middle name, so her initials would then be ARS .

Last time SC was on she said that she was posting a bit infrequently because they have started having work done on their house, so have assumed that her absence is due to that.

Frizbe - fancy not letting DH have Scarlett - I love that too, but DH vetoed.
Also love Madison, but again DH is being a spoilsport .

TicTac - yes, def think of people who I've known with a particular name. We love Hazel, but then a Hazel in distant family put us off, and Simone is one of my 2 best friends, so wouldn't use that (apart from it sounding like a rhyme with Stone ). You could always go for Antoinette and call her Netty, or Matilda and call her Matty or Tilly.

flamebat · 21/10/2005 15:57

I've never heard Amelia shortened to Mil before

I'm generally one for calling a child what you want them to be called (using your suggestion of Matilda) - if you want to shorten to Tilly, then just call em Tilly . Which I actually really like... DH will hate it.

Frizbe · 21/10/2005 15:59

ah we know a Tilly
also know a Daisy!
Don't do Madison, please don't its soooooo trailer park! (omg I'm a snob!)

Bewitched · 21/10/2005 16:04

Ah Flame - makes sense, but I can't use a shortened version of a name because DH then says that the child doesn't have a real name! He won't let me have Jamie because it should be James, and then a close friend of his gave his son Jamie as a middle name recently. DH hasn't had the nerve to tell him that his son doesn't have a real name yet .

Is Madison really trailer trash? Obviously we won't be using it as DH doesn't like, but it's not one I've ever associated with tt before. Mind you, I don't hang out with trailer trash much, so wouldn't really know what names they use - Frizbe, maybe you should try and find yourself a new more upmarket social scene .

thell · 21/10/2005 16:05

OK, I think you're right about avoiding ARS!!

I like Fiona too, but can't have Fi Male . Boo!

I like Hazel. And Laurel. Will investigate more plant-based names. People say I look like a vegetarian, so might as well go with it! Tasteful hippy names like Sky unfortunately tend to be only one syllable, which is not so good with a one syllable surname.

More 'y' names for Tictac - Holly - Lily

thell · 21/10/2005 16:09

By the way, Madison is in the top ten of most popular girls' names, so she'd probably be at school with about 5 of them.

I don't think it's that trashy - unless her sisters are called Tiffany and Britney!

BTW after the scan my MIL joked
'So you'll be calling her Chardonnay then,...!!'

flamebat · 21/10/2005 16:09

I love the idea that its not a whole name!!

Bewitched · 21/10/2005 16:10

No - Madison is only number 43! See info from ONS here:

girls names top 100 last 5 years

flamebat · 21/10/2005 16:11

I like Laurel too - thought of that the other day.

Bewitched · 21/10/2005 16:12

I used to work for a pub company called Laurel!

thell · 21/10/2005 16:16

I'm impressed with your list!
My google skills must be out of date!!
No excuse, as DH works in IT.

thell · 21/10/2005 16:21

Actually now I'm cross.
Looks like my child is going to have to be called 'Bogbrush' or similar in order to have an 'interesting' name

Very frustrated.
