catherine I have just finished a little cardy for my little one and am now on my second project. Oh, I love knitting it's one of those pastimes that just absorbs you and there is nothing quite like seeing someone wearing something you have actually made! I', also finishing a big jumper for my FIL, which should fit him fine if his arms shrink a couple of inches![grin} do let me know if you find any lovely patterns!

jammiedodger2 · 15/12/2010 21:12

Hi Ladies
I am now on my last busy week before christmas which is fab. Am at work until christmas eve but slowing down as no-one really wants to see us in the week before christmas let alone the week in-between.
Things a bit grim work-wise atm as tis the season to get drunk and hit your wife and kids.Lots of coming home and hugging my children.
Have finally been told who will be covering my caseload so thats great, I think she will be up and running by mid jan. The other health visitor on my team is being lovely and we've agreed that after christmas I will work half days on the road and half days in the office keeping on top of paperwork and tying up my caseload.
Babywise I'm getting big and lots of kicks.STILL no consultant!
keep warm
jx

sam26oscar · 15/12/2010 22:13

well that sme pretty much finished for the holidays now!! just have to work christmas eve Sad til 6pm but luckily i can take DS1 with me so won't feel like i'm missing out from him!
I would appreciate some advice ladies please. I don't know if i have spd/pgp, or sorry a bit of Blush.. constipation??
I have backache (normal in pg!!) also a feeling of heaviness/pressure/tender in my pubic area/ spreading outwards and upwards around my bump, but not going higher that the bit that sticks out over your knickers iyswim?? However sorry girls but i haven't had a poo for 4/5 days so not sure if this could cause a problem?? Also i googled (I know bad !!)and they say its painful opening your legs well to be honest i find it way more comfortable sitting with them open...such a lady!! thats what got me into trouble in the first place Wink

Sooo any ideas!!??? Any info or similar experiences would be great... although having read this back i feel i am a freak and should just sit down and be quiet !!!!

Oceanbreeze · 16/12/2010 09:55

Hello ladies. Lost my internet for over a week, so been trying to keep up on my phone, but am sure I've missed loads.

Big congratulations though to Spilt (& Mr Spilt). Wishing you a trouble-free thirtysomething weeks.

Am very Envy of all you knitters & crocheters. I am utterly useless at any of that stuff. Luckily for me though my mum is fab Grin

sam No advice from me regarding the pubic area pressure - but sympathy, I think I've had similar.

Am also feeling a bit sorry for myself this week - not been sleeping very well, and also have the sniffles again. Although I have been prompted to get the flu jab sorted (which means I've added sore arm to things-to-moan-about Grin ) I did manage to read a mumsnet thread on the pros & cons of the flu jab and noticed a couple of you guys on there (sorry can't remember who - memory first casualty of this pregnancy!), but thanks for your help, and I admire your patience with some of the nutjobs on that thread!

Muser · 16/12/2010 10:04

sam if you've not been to the loo for that long I would be calling midwife/gp. They'll soon sort you out.

OP posts:
spaceal · 16/12/2010 10:06

sam, I've been having a similar sort of pain/ache, I think. Kind of under my bump, where it meets the pubic area-ish (I wrote public area then Blush). It aches when I move so I was sort of assuming it was muscles/stretching/growing bump. I'll also await more knowledgeable people...

Looks like the snow is back here in the north east Xmas Hmm so we had a whole three days or something when I haven't been petrified of falling over when venturing out.

My last day of teaching today - yay! Sooooo looking forward to taking things easy next week, though seem to have lined up a week of boiler and alarm servicing, on top of the Xmas preparations.

KPidgeon · 16/12/2010 13:16

sam26oscar I can't really comment on whether it's anything else but just to say that I'm having bran every night and also eating loads of dried fruit to avoid being constipated. I really feel much heavier and more tired if I don't go to the loo often- so i wouldn't be surprised if that was causing you discomfort. With my bran flakes & dried fruit nightly feed I'm going to the loo every morning which feels much better!

Get it checked out if you're worried though- I wouldn't like to say it isn't anything else.

Oceanbreeze I'm having the flu jab tomorrow too. Mulled it over loads but have decided better to fo for it than not. Particularly becuase I work with so many students and staff breathing their varied germs on me every day (and the tube journey is a germ-fest)

I've asked for a sewing machine for christmas so if anyone has any sewing patterns that are easy for a beginner I'd love to share! I'm going to try bibs first- and figure they are probably pretty easy.

Take it easy all- especially if the predicted snow & ice arrive tonight.

K

Jupiter118 · 16/12/2010 14:56

Sam26 - much sympathy I have suffered this pregnancy upping fluid and fruit seems to have sorted it though, but agree if worried that you should call GP or MW.

Had flu jab a while ago and has fended off worst of germs (touch wood) but have got horrid head cold.

Sewing machine ought to get mine out - tis quite easy to make little simple shopping bags and add a bit on the handle so can roll up and button it up. Makes quite nice homemade pressie ( though my seams are always v v wobbly) can't or haven't attempted anything more complicated though.

Had GTT this am was v v v v v boring. Nil by mouth from 9pm, hospital for 9am, blood test, horrid sugary drink, 2 hours boredom and then another blood test. If positive they call you by 4pm so really hoping not to hear from them!!! Fingers crossed.

Jxx

1Catherine1 · 16/12/2010 15:29

No need to be Envy of my lack of skill in knitting Ocean. I am utterly hopeless at it but I'm giving it a go. I still have an empty knitting needle after starting again for the 100th time last night. I got all annoyed with it and texted my granny looking for advice. She phoned me and talked me through a couple of my issues with it and then told me how proud she was of me for giving it a go Grin. So I guess that means I'm not giving up.

Anyway... It is Thursday night and instead of going home like a normal pregnant woman I have to go shopping and buy some Christmas presents for my brother and sister so that I can post them tomorrow. Maybe they then stand a chance of arriving before Christmas Eve. I'm even considering buying something for the OH but I'll probably be too tired by the time I've got my siblings sorted.

bluebeach · 16/12/2010 22:41

Keep at the knitting 1catherine1, I've got back into it again this winter and have made 4 pairs of those wristie warmer things as I can't cope with any kind of patterns and these just require a knitted rectangle. You get quite quick gratification as they are so quick to make.
I'm a bit afraid of anything more complicated, knitting patterns look gobbledogook to me. Wish my granny was still around, she was a champion knitter!!

I like the idea of making bags jupiter sounds simple enough for me!

sam26oscar · 17/12/2010 07:31

OOOh i love hand knitted cardigans for babies Smile i haven't anyone in the family who can knit though Sad apparently the hospital sells them for £1 not sure if thats right but have been meaning to go and see!!

For those interested Grin finally went to the loo at flippin 11.30pm last night of all the weirdest times!!! I feel so much better now although it was (sorry tmi) not unlike labour at some points Blush so think the pain was due to that!!

Well we have a a couple of cm's of snow this morning but not enough to shut the school much to my son's disgust Grin forecast quite a bit more over next 24-48 hrs sorry if you've had loads and are sick of it but last time everywhere but my county (North Somerset) had it and i felt hard done by Wink

Have a safe and warm day ladies xx

doubleshotlatte · 17/12/2010 08:21

Wow! All those of you still working, how do you do it? Totally impressed! Have you kept your figures (apart from a neat bump?) Xmas Envy

Here I am struggling to decorate the christmas tree, making decorations with DD (2.5) and huffing and puffing to her nursery and play group Xmas Grin - graceful I am not!

1catherine Glad to meet another er... "glutton for punishment" as SIL called me - cos I sewed DD's xmas play costume from scratch Xmas Smile loved it!! I can't knit but I'm making a cute little smocked baby top for baby. The trick is to sew while a toddler hangs from one arm and/or violently shakes the other!

doubleshotlatte · 17/12/2010 08:29

I've been away from this thread too long... we were on holiday and I was a bit Xmas Blush because I felt I was too much the...odd one out.... Sad for the group... since I felt baby kick from week 17 (there was no mistaking it, 2nd time round) but now I've met a few other moms at DD's playgroup who had that too so feeling more Xmas Smile normal!

I had a quick ultrasound while on holiday (due to horrid violent cough and torn side muscle) which wasn't very clear not being a doppler. But the doc said baby was currently breech Shock sitting up comfily dangling his feet (no wonder the kicks were so low down)

I'm currently week 28+5, so should I be worried? Confused

Will baby turn in time...? Hmm

Larty74 · 17/12/2010 09:08

doubleshotlatte was at midwife on tues this week and based on what they felt they thought his head was at the top of bump and said was perfectly normal. I'm 28 + 4

Well, my shopping is DONE thanks to TKMaxx. everything bought in one go - and a few treats for myself thown in Blush Why do they have to put the cutest shoes out when you're supposed to be buying for other people!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 17/12/2010 11:50

Hello all...

Just popping in. Pretty uneventful MW appointment on Tues. Any issues I had she said GP. My flu is still lingering so expect I have prob left it a little late for the jab since this day 12 or something now.

In terms of cute shoes.... hahah actually we do a lot of book buying in our family and I CANNOT leave Waterstones without at least 3 books for me EVER. That is prob a little sad!!

Larty74 · 17/12/2010 12:00

well it is usually 3 for 2 right?

superpenguin · 17/12/2010 15:34

spilt that is excellent news! :) best of luck for this pregnancy.

superpenguin · 17/12/2010 15:56

hello all!
I can't believe it is Christmas next week!
we might get our xmas tree & decorations out tonight if can be bothered. House is full of junk everywhere at the moment so goodness knows where we will put a tree though!

Pram update: After pondering how expensive they are for a while now we have decided to buy second-hand. I must confess - I have so far bought 3 prams off ebay... in varying conditions and the cheapest was only £5 - can't resist a bargain! One I paid £20 for and is in really good condition too. I may yet buy a few more, test them all out and then re-sell the ones I don't want. :)

General update: 29 weeks today! oh my gosh time is starting to fly now.
Had a bit of a saga at the weekend as I was away at a friend's house for the weekend (on my own without DH!) which is about 200 miles away and I got ill with some sort of tummy bug, (mild diarrhoea, painful stomach cramps / acid indigestion type pain, and loss of appetite) and of course I had left my notes at home. Anyway after speaking to a midwife on the phone they advised me to get checked out so spent 3 hours in the labour ward (!) at a strange hospital in a strange city, so they could confirm the problem really was only gastric/digestive and nothing to do with baby. They strapped me to a monitor and listened to baby's heartbeat for a whole hour and another monitor which is supposed to measure contractions (I wasn't having any!) and tested my BP, temperature and urine before concluding that everything was fine with baby and I just had gastro-itis (not sure of spelling) which is what I thought anyway all along. What a palava. Ended up spending an extra night at my friend's house before I felt well enough to drive home, and took 2 days off work sick, but am completely fine and better now.

Still got backache though, but now got an extra lumbar support for my chair at work which seems to help a bit, and am getting a back massage on monday from a midwife in my area who also does massage, yay!

Larty74 · 17/12/2010 16:54

Superpenguin what types of pushchairs have you bought out of curiousity as am thinking of doing the same, then buying brand new car seat which obviously will work w/ it. at the moment I'm eyeing up the bebe confort loola.

i like your strategy. glad you are ok in the end sounds like a very thorough hospital at any rate!

Larty74 · 18/12/2010 10:14

LOVING the snow and actually feeling a bit Christmassy! Xmas Grin

jeffily · 18/12/2010 12:20

Hello all
Well term is finally over, thank goodness and I can rest. Had a horrid last day though with snow and a stuck car, a four hour wait for my bro in a cafe (with very sweet owners who were actually shut for three of those hours but stayed with me and fed me tea and cake!), a nasty drive home and DH is away till tonight. I just hope he can get back! We've cancelled our first lot of Xmas plans as the weather is just too bad and are now moving onto plan B. A bit annoying as we've paid for tickets etc, but what can we do? I fell over as well, and cried in front of parents. Blush

Anyway, no lasting damage done, baby is kicking like mad so obviously feeling well! DD has just gone for a nap and I have a yearning for macoroni cheese for lunch, so off to stoke up the oven!

Keep safe and warm everyone!

1Catherine1 · 18/12/2010 12:40

BAH HUMBUG!!!!!

Today I had to go to the vets to pick up my cats antibiotics since they didn't have them in stock last night. The vets is just over a mile away but since my little ford Ka doesn't cope well with the snow I had to walk. I left the house at 10:30am, nearly 2 hours later I've just got home. I hate the snow and feel very bah humbugy now.

A few months ago when I was about 13 weeks pregnant I made a thread in the pregnancy forum asking people about ways their pregnancy had made them healthier or better. Today I was thinking of a list of 5 things I hate about being pregnant. I won't list them but how things change.

SuperP I'm glad you're making progress on the buggy front. I'm still undecided. I even signed up to "Which?" to help me make the choice but I'm still no closer. Although I have fallen in love with the iCandy Peach - a shame I can't afford it. The Babystyle Oyster seems to be my second choice at the moment. The buggy seems to be the biggest baby purchase decision I need to make and I've never been good at deciding. Xmas Confused

mixedmamameansbusiness · 19/12/2010 10:51

We are still completely undecided about pram/pushchair. DH mentioned the McLaren again even though he vetoed it when wewent for look. I still like th Bugaboo Bee, and although the pushchair itself is expensive but possibly doable it is the extras like £90 for a foot muff (ok not till next winter) that is the ongoing concern.

I have taken a liking to the Maxi Cosi Loola, which with car seat and muff is just shprt of £400 but I have read amazing reviews which all claim to have used it from birth until they no longer need it. I have a McClaren stroller but probably wouldnt use it till we are properly in todler mode.

DH is very focussed on the cost whereas I am looking for durability etc and will be using it everyday. I am happy to scrimp on almost everything elsE.

Muser · 19/12/2010 11:06

You can sometimes get good secondhand deals on Bugaboos if you look on Ebay or Preloved. So you might be able to pick stuff up cheaper.

I think forking out on the pram, if it's one you're definitely happy with is, is worth it. You'll be using it pretty much every day after all.

I am 30 weeks today! 30 weeks!! I think I need to lie down. Xmas Grin
