Due July 2011?

1000 replies

MadAboutTheBoys · 24/10/2010 07:42

Just got my BFP this morning and so excited! Managed this conception while DH was out of the country so very chuffed that it worked! Already have two DS, one who is 3.2 and an August birthday and one who is 16 months and a June birthday so bring on the Summer parties!

Have never been part of an antenatal club on here before but as this is planned to be my last pregnancy am hoping to find some other July mums to share the journey with (although know I am very early!) Am already worrying how the birth will go as DS2 was born unexpectedly in the kitchen after a 90 min labour with the midwife only just there to catch him, so am a bit worried if subsequent labours are supposed to go quicker whether I will have anyone with me for this one, but at least I have a while to go yet!

OP posts:

BeatrixRotter · 14/11/2010 21:33

Think the first scan is around 12 weeks but it does depend on your area. You can always pay for a private scan if you want one earlier.

Congrats to you and the other new joiners.

Anyone else feeling dizzy? Wondering if this is pg related or I'm getting a cold.

Crazyafterthought · 14/11/2010 21:36

Hi, in an uncomplicated woman the first scan for someone who is reasonably certain about their dates is 12-14 weeks. If you have any symptoms of bleeding or are not sure of dates it will be earlier to check that all is ok and to date the pregnancy. The 12-14 week scan is the nuchal fold scan which is also looking for early signs of abnormality such as an increased risk of Down's Syndrome and other chromosomal problems but these are unlikely as you are young!
Then the next is at 20 weeks and then not usually any more unless something else crops up- like the helpful midwife comment of 'looks a bit small' and feels a good size!' both comments strike horror in to the hearts of most women!
There is a national target to have all women see their midwife and be 'booked' by 12+6 weeks so make sure you get that sorted out otherwise your local hospital suffers form the thought police.
The midwife will go through the usual number of visits that you have and when but speed is the essence now to get yourself in the system.
Good luck- its very new and strange the first time but the midwives are usually very nice. I think I will be surprised how new it will seem after a gap as well- also need to take advice as haven't been to anyone yet and now 7 weeks

nicolamumof3 · 14/11/2010 21:43

Evening all each day that ticks by such a relief at this stage. Can't believe I'm only 5+1 going to take forever! Congratulations and welcome to newbies!

I feel huge too already but that is due to the amount I'm eating I start off a bit peckish then I just cannot wait have to eat immediately!!

BeatrixRotter · 14/11/2010 22:06

That is one thing I don't understand. I keep reading that you only need about 200 extra calories a day and only in the third trimester. So if that is the case then why are we all so flipping hungry? I'm sure it must be duff advice. Anyway am off to bed, good night.

Hulla · 15/11/2010 08:52

Welcome Brassica congrats on your bfp!

Beatrix I have been wondering the same thing and the only thing I have a couple of theories. I wondered if I under-eat most of the time, skipping meals etc and so this just brings me to the amount I should be eating.
My second theory is that the 300 cals is an average so perhaps you need more in the first trimester and less in the third (when your uterus is so big & you're so crippled by heartburn that it's hard to eat much). I am training to be an antenatal teacher (good timing!) and I have had to do some research into MS. It appears that it maybe linked to low blood sugar so as long as you're eating you feel ok - maybe mother nature doesn't care about the calories, just keeping blood sugar levels stable.

Hulla · 15/11/2010 08:57

Sorry, posting from phone again, it gets to the point where I can't see what I'm typing so I just have to post and hope for the best Grin.

I realised that was 3 theories and not 2.

Nicola I am the same, must eat now! Which is why I have just eaten a slice of ham. No bread, no sandwich. I feel sick now. Not MS, just eating-cold-meats-at-8.30am kind of sick.

Did I tell you I saw my GP last week? He was a miserable old goat. He calculated my due date based on my last period even though my cycles have been long since they returned. That's fine, maybe I'll get a scan a week earlier.Smile

Hulla · 15/11/2010 09:01

Oh, but apparently you can self-refer to midwives here so I visited him needlessly. It might be worth calling midwives in your area to see if you can do it. We moved from Yorkshire this year were the process was completely different. Here they encourage you to go along to see the MW as soon as you get a bfp and they run small groups a bit like parentcraft classes to discuss what happens next/testing etc.

That's it from me, must stop posting from my phone. Hope you're all having a lovely day!

Mitchell81 · 15/11/2010 09:26

Congrats on all the BFP and all the first timers it is such an exciting time for everyone.

I am wishing away these first few weeks already as so tired of continuously feeling sick. But then I think about the end not being able to move easily, not being able to get comfortable in bed etc and I think I should just keep quiet and enjoy the first few weeks before I start getting huge. Grin I have 1st midwife appointment on thurs so look forward to getting into the system. Hopefully she can chase up 12 week scan date.
I thought we were mad to be having a 4th child but there seems to be afew of us which will be nice.

BeatrixRotter · 15/11/2010 10:03

Hulla it's a nice idea about the undereating but don't think I am guilty of that! However the blood sugar thing would make sense, I was carb mad last time around and only experienced ms if for some reason I went too long without eating.

I dutifully went to my GP last week as that was what I had to do last time around only to find there was no need as in my new area you just go and see the midwives and they don't want to see you until you're about 10 weeks.

Mitchell81 I keep worrying how i'll manage with a toddler when I'm big and immobile at the end, but then you are proof that it is obviously possible!

Eglu · 15/11/2010 10:10

Morning all, and welcome to the newbies. I'm with everyone on the needing to eat little and often to stop feeling sick.

I also feel really short of breath any time I do anything. I am another one who is wishing these weeks away. I am hoping I will start to feel better by Christmas as I should be 12 weeks then.

I just self referred to the mw this time too. I asked at the GP surgery and they said there was no need to see a GP.

I felt a bit like that yesterday emmylou. My theory is that you just sort of get used to it so don't notice it so much?

scrivette · 15/11/2010 12:18

Thanks for the info.

My boobs are huge and sore and am having mild heartburn, but I am not complaining as I like 'feeling' pregnant!!

It is great being able to read this thread and see that everyone is going through similar things!

StormBird · 15/11/2010 12:50

Hello Girls,

My Boobs feel massive, I asked DP if he thought they had grown a bit and he said they definately had LOL!! Christ I hope they stop growing I was already an E cup before I became pregnant. I am currently working the '4-boob' look in my regular sized bra and am constantly having to jiggle them into place Grin

I can also say that I am incredibly hungry....and am picking at food all the time.

Welcome to Brassica Scrivette & Geordiemam congrats on your BFP's. And anyone else I may have missed.

I've got the docs on Thursday morning, just to let them know I'm up the duff. Am hoping that they are going to keep a close eye on me this time round but we'll see!!!

Told my parents at the weekend, they are so pleased for us, which is nice. My DP doesn't want to tell his parents yet until I've been to the docs.......they aren't like my family so not expecting the same reaction (not expecting a bad one thought either - I hope).

Have a lovely day all.

BeatrixRotter · 15/11/2010 13:01

I'm going to a wedding in December Stormbird and have the perfect dress except it was a little busty last time I wore it (but acceptable). At this rate it will be obscene in a month's time.

I haven't told anyone in rl yet and I must say this thread is a lifeline! Excited as DP is there is a limit to his interest in all pg related.

I hope it does well at the docs and I am sure they will keep a close eye on you.

scaredkelly · 15/11/2010 13:37

Hi All,

Had my first appointment with mid wife on Thursday. Got loads of forms to fill in. Starting to feel real now!! I still have cystitis though, on second week of antibiotics. Am a bit worrried about that. Morning sickness is also awful. God, i can't wait until this starts to become and enjoyable process!!

nicolamumof3 · 15/11/2010 13:40

well my boobs don't feel so sore today but then like you all i start to worry why??? Never happy are we!

Agree little and often is always the case with me when pg to keep ms at bay. Every two hours i have to eat mostly!! Will be huge by the time i get to 12week scan. Am thinking of starting my swimming up again though now Youngest is is nursery every afternoon so im fortunate to have some free time. Which im going to really appreciate come the spring im sure!

docs on thursday for me too. They have to refer you here (im in west kent)

Eglu · 15/11/2010 14:00

nicolamumof3 DS2 has jusr started preschool and I felt very sad leaving him, think my hormones are getting to me. But him starting at nursery couldn't have come at a better time, becuase it means that I have time to rest.

Beatrixrotter My DB is getting married in December and I had bought the perfect dress, which is now not going to fit. I need to find something else to wear :(

I am also always hungry. I am trying very hard not to have sweet foods in the house as they are too much of a temptation at the moment. (Although Dh keeps bringing them home for me as surprises!) Hmm I have been snacking on cereal, toast or fruit every 2 hours or so. Ive also been making big salads for lunch and dinner so I dont have more carbs for my main meals as well.

emmylou I have been symptom free for most of the time. A few twinges and bloating earlier on. All last week I felt normal.

However this morning I woke up and started dry retching when I went to tie up the kitchen bin liner!! I was also dry retching when I was washing up, when fishing the little bits of food out of the kitchen sink hole!

I feel a little poorly anyway today, so can't be sure if this is a new symptom, as I have got a scratchy throat and I think the beginnings of a cold. Will have to wait and see.

BeatrixRotter · 15/11/2010 14:43

Eglu I am torn as to whether to buy an Isabella Oliver type thing which will then grow with me during pregnancy or whether to get a normal dress in a bigger size. It seems to be normal to show quicker second time around, but have no idea how big I'll be by the end of next month. So will probably have to get something at the last minute.

Oceanfox · 15/11/2010 15:11

Hi everyone

Jumping in! OH and I have been trying for no 1 for about 16 months with no success. We were gearing up for IVF/ICSI in the New Year then bam pregnant Wink

In terms of symptoms, boobs appear to be getting more tender every day - ouch. Waistbands are tighter and feeling pretty irritable with OH and work colleagues. None of the dreaded morning sickness yet.

Congrats to all of us.
