Due July 2011?

1000 replies

MadAboutTheBoys · 24/10/2010 07:42

Just got my BFP this morning and so excited! Managed this conception while DH was out of the country so very chuffed that it worked! Already have two DS, one who is 3.2 and an August birthday and one who is 16 months and a June birthday so bring on the Summer parties!

Have never been part of an antenatal club on here before but as this is planned to be my last pregnancy am hoping to find some other July mums to share the journey with (although know I am very early!) Am already worrying how the birth will go as DS2 was born unexpectedly in the kitchen after a 90 min labour with the midwife only just there to catch him, so am a bit worried if subsequent labours are supposed to go quicker whether I will have anyone with me for this one, but at least I have a while to go yet!

buttonmoon78 · 25/11/2010 22:03

I too have lots of medics in the family. They all pay scant heed to guidelines. One said I should be drinking a glass of red wine a day to help with blood benefits!

cake4breakfast · 25/11/2010 22:11

Oh it's all soooo confusing! I wanted to buy a baby book to dip into when not in front of a pc but they all seem to be full of contradictions of things I should/shouldn't being doing! I like to think that I trust my own judgement but it makes you start to query yourself. Also, the size of the baby book section in Waterstones took me by surprise and my step-in-and-straight-again of Mothercare totally freaked me out! I never knew babies needed soooo much multi-coloured plastic!Confused

ItIsILeclerc · 25/11/2010 22:12

Tbh I have completely lost faith in doctors/the medical profession since having DD (probably would have happened years ago except I didn't need to go the doctor before I had DD).

cake4breakfast · 25/11/2010 22:18

I don't feel I have much choice - I'm trying my best to get clued up on everything but it's hard when the information is so often conflicting.

ItIsILeclerc · 25/11/2010 22:22

Cake, they don't need as much as Mothercare would have you believe Wink It's a bit trial and error, as some people's must-haves are others' no-needs (eg DD was never once top and tailed Blush) but they don't need much. If you message me your email address I can send you an enormous long email I typed out for a friend ages ago with what I considered the essentials. Or I could post it here, but it's very long Blush

Sounds like arse-licking but the MN books look good for presenting the various different parenting schools. I loved one called Babies for Beginngers by Roni Jay for basic how to look after a baby stuff written in an accessible way. Also loved Best Friends' Guide to Pregnancy, which I found hilarious though OTT (I didn't get about 90% of the symptoms she swore I would). Most people like the Rough Guide to Pregnancy. Just realised I'm not sure whether you want a baby book or pregnancy book, sorry. For parenting advice I tended to read MN mainly as you get lots of different views and can google anything that sounds interesting. Did have GF/Baby Whisperer but not me. I was surprised how strongly my instincts took over (eg thought I'd be a very strict, organised parent, but in fact still co-sleeping with a two year old etc) but I'd say it took a year to start feeling confident that I wasn't "making a rod for my own back" (HATE that phrase! Angry)

"What Mothers Do" is a good one too - nothing about parenting but does make you feel better about the fact you seem to be exhausted by achieving nothing, plus I loved just knowing that other mums felt the same as me :)

ItIsILeclerc · 25/11/2010 22:29

Forgot to say, ebay/NCT sales are fab for baby stuff :)

cake4breakfast · 25/11/2010 22:35

Yeah, tbh, I'm planning to beg and borrow most of it (whatever 'it' is!). ItIsILeclerc, I've messaged you:)

sues1974 · 25/11/2010 22:36

Hi ladies, thought id pop by and say hello, havnt been on for a few nights so just catching up on about 5 pages. cant beieve we have even more BFP's, congratulations to everyone thats just added.
Ive got a early scan this tuesday, cant wait for it to come round, quite worried as dont have any symptoms at all now. Had insomnia for 2 nights and a little bit of nausea but today theres been nothing at all and feel completely normal, so really hoping theres a heartbeat there on tuesday. I'll be 7+4 so should be able to see it if its there.
Hope everyone is ok xx

sugargirl1 · 26/11/2010 08:52

Buttonmoon - I know exactly what you mean about thicker waist bands. I had a eaving drinks work's do last night( freat fun - on the diet coke's all night Grin and I couldn't fit into any of my trousers....waaah!!! Can I tuck into those elasticated waistbands yet?

Hulla · 26/11/2010 09:15

Suz I think it's normal for symptoms to come and go. Apparently ms peaks around the development of the vital organs so from 6-8 weeks. Maybe you're just lucky this time Smile. Is your EDD based on your ovulation date or last period? You might have ovulated later than you thought and be a few days behind where you think you are. I hope the scan gives you reassurance so you can relax and enjoy it.

ItIsILeclerc yes. Definitely looking forward to labour but not pregnancy (except parading my bump at a few weddings). Even though my last labour wasn't what I hoped for, I still believe that birth is a positive thing (or I'd be a rubbish birth educator Grin). Do you know why you didn't get your home birth last time? I think that's a good starting point for planning the next one. I am surrounding myself with women who are pro-natural birth & I plan to have a doula to be strong on my behalf when I'm in "the zone". If you live anywhere near the NW you could always come to my birth classes from end of Jan. It's empowering to be around other women who believe in birth rather than my family who say "have the bloody csection!". Grin

Hulla · 26/11/2010 09:20

Sorry had to post early, on my phone (miss you, broadband).

I feel rubbish today and was awake feeling sick last night. DH got back from playing football at about 10pm and got me a glass of milk which helped. That's 4 nights in a row now that I've needed to down milk. Looks like this pregnancy is getting more like the last with each passing day. I drank about a pint of milk a day until she was born and then never asked to drink it again (although my mum used to give me some when feeding DD "'you need milk to make milk" Grin. That's not true by the way!

PregnantInParis · 26/11/2010 10:27

Hello everyone, hope you're all doing well ... I have a second scan this afternoon. Quite anxious, just hope there is a heartbeat this time to reassure us that all is well. Think I'm not quite 8 weeks yet though so not sure what to expect. Starting to feel quite nauseous most of the time though haven't actually thrown up yet. Hoping that's a good sign. Only other symptom is tiredness. Am straight into my pjs and no good to man nor beast as soon as I get home from work. The dark mornings and evenings aren't helping much! Totally unmotivated at work too (hence why I'm faffing about online right now!) Wink

Twit · 26/11/2010 11:01

hi all hope every one is doing ok.

ItIsILeclerc I don't like being pregnant and am looking forward to the birth too.

I sometimes get restless legs and have to stretch them and jiggle them - it is very strange.

I agree you don't need everything 'they' say you need for a baby, I never top and tailed any of mine either, it was a dunk in the bath or baby wipes Blush

Badgerwife · 26/11/2010 12:43

Sooo, time to add myself to the July gang. Feeling rough as, but not been sick yet, I do hope it's going to carry on like this, as I have a 1.5 hours journey to work in train and tube and am totally stressing about being sick. My first instinct will be to go straight home!

I feel a bit weird about being pregnant at the moment, I am excited but it's a weird thought to say "I'm 5 weeks", and to have only known for 3 days.

sues1974 · 26/11/2010 12:44

Hi Ladies,
Hulla i didnt know that morning sickness is at its worse when the vital organs are developing, thats really interesting. im 7 weeks today but basing that on missed period, so i could only be about 6+ 3 or 4 days because last time that happened, i ovulated later than i thought i had. i then convinced myself i was carrying a girl on that basis, ha ha, how wrong was i!

Did any other of you lovely ladies book Take that tickets before finding out you were pregnant? im going on 4th june (so providing everything is ok with bean) i'll be waddling along to Manchester at nearly 8 months pregnant, lol - god i hope i get a seat!xx

Ivegotmrbitey · 26/11/2010 13:13

I'm a bit confused about the timing, can anyone clarify? The first day of my last period was the 22nd of October which is five weeks ago today. The GP insisted on knocking two weeks off that when explaining I was too early to be referred to the midwife. So, if the scan is meant to be a twelve weeks, am I looking at seven weeks from now or nine? To me saying five weeks pregnant feels much nicer than saying three weeks! Sorry for being thick, this is a whole new world for me!

Twit · 26/11/2010 13:21

hmmm, I thought (until they knew from the dating scan), they took it from the first day of your last period. I suppose it's more likely that you would get pregnant about 2 weeks after that in general..
Has he only just qualified? Wink
I would leave it a couple of weeks then phone the drs and ask to be referred to the MW for a booking in visit. I am yet to do this, but this is what I will do, I don't suppose I'll see my dr at all, all being well.

nicolamumof3 · 26/11/2010 13:28

always taken from 1st day of LMP ime?

Ivegotmrbitey · 26/11/2010 13:33

He was a young locum twit, I should have known better! I'll make in a note in my diary to ring in two weeks when I will consider myself seven weeks and pay him no further heed!

SpannerPants · 26/11/2010 13:34

Good luck PregnantinParis - I had a second scan on Wed and was so relieved to see the heartbeat, I hope it's the same for you!

PregnantInParis hope the scan goes well, I always worry myself sick before them - fingers crossed for you :)

I have my next one on the 7th then another booked for the 21st ... feels a long time to wait.

Eglu · 26/11/2010 14:00

Wow this thread has got even busier. I've not been on much, because like others I'm in bed as soon as I can be.

Nice to see some are planning home births. I'm planning on my second hb. Last time was so lovely and peaceful, and getting into my comfy bed afterwards was great.

I am another one who is looking forward to labour. I really don't enjoy being pregnant and would much rather go through labour. It probably helps that my labours are very short though. Grin

Ivegotmrbitey · 26/11/2010 14:03

yes, good luck for later PIP, hope it all goes well.

I am having enough trouble bending my mind around being pregnant. Labour and child birth are things I will not be considering until I get confirmation that a) there is a little person in there and b) he/she will want to come out at some point!

jigglebum · 26/11/2010 18:43

Hi everyone. Glad it is Friday - finding the weeks with a 2 year old and being pregnant quite hard work. Having said that he has been really good today and I have not generally been feeling too bad.
I think I am 7 + 3 but could be less.

Phoned to book a midwife booking appointment today - receptionist did not have much of a clue. Told me she thought I needed to see the GP first - I said fine but last time they had just said thats nice and see a midwife so she said ok and booked me in to see the midwife. I asked if I needed to be a minimum no of weeks for a booking appointment - she didn't think so ( I think it is generally 8 weeks), anyway have an appointment next week so it might start to feel real then.

Have not told anyone in RL yet. Want to wait a bit longer but it is hard. Renovating our house at the moment and inlaws here tomorrow - it is hard not to make excuses for not doing stuff, so have just been getting on with it really.

Sorry - long waffling post! Anyone got exciting plans for weekend. Wall paper stripping and unpacking for me. Joy!

StormBird · 26/11/2010 19:25

Hi Everyone...

This will be a selfish post so I apologise now for not catching up on the thread and say hi to any newbies.....

I feel like CRAP....TMI ALERT - basically been off work nearly all week as I have been feeling really Sick, being really sick, tremendous headaches (some of which evolved into migraine), and cannot sleep at night. been constipated and had the runs (WTF) and am now generally feeling pretty sorry for myself.

I haven't caught up with the thread simply because I haven't been able to focus on the computer screen until today. I'm still here though.

I have an early scan booked on Wednesday when I'll be 7+4 so fingers crossed I feel better before then and all is OK.

Good Luck to anyone with imminent early scans. To anyone who is feeling as rough as me, I hope you feel better soon and anyone who isn't experiencing many symptoms and is having a easy breezy time at the mo, I'm well Jealous Envy

I promise that I will catch up on the thread soon (there's a lot to get through) and my next ppost will not be this selfish.

Hope you are all ok xxxxxxx
