New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 11:59

No, no need to ring the mw yet, but it might be signs you're getting there. If BHs start to turn more regular and then shorten in time, it might be worth phoning just to see what they say.

Just with my DD1 I had a bad tum beforehand (I felt it was my body's way of getting things out of the way! TMI alert), and also felt sick and needed a bath to calm the contractions.

Crystylline · 03/01/2011 12:02

thanks.

right, will go and have this bath and try not to panic to relax.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 12:07

Sorry! Didn't mean to panic you! Relax and ignore. You'll know if BHs turn to real contractions.

CupcakesHay · 03/01/2011 13:48

My god - i go to bed early and you lots are up nattering all night!

Starting to feel better- managed to pull another muscle last night at 3am and was so bad i had to wake my mum as I was yelping every breath Blush but she put cold patch on and held it for me as i couldn't reach and generally soothed me - then I slept at dining room table! And because i've been sleeping/sitting on same chair now, for parctially 12 hours my feet have swollen up something chronic. BUT am feeling a bit better - and surely nothing else can go wrong???

I have boosts too - and i've got Glee CD packed, and i'll bring my ipod too I think.

pootle very funny about the washing! Grin

crystylline - i'm in same boat as you -I'm due my first antenatal class on the 16th - so I think i'll be watching breathing techniques on youtube just in case!

HI CYBER - i'm 2 bags - mini suitcase for me and the lovely skiphop changing bag i got for Xmas for baby.

bubba love the yummy mummy bag!

hello again shanster

And I think all of you parents who are letting the kids eat chocolate are fab! That's what i'll be doing.

And pleased i'm not only one craving cheese! Stilton please....

I'm getting BH too - but not too regular i hope. Spoke to DH earlier and he seems to think by me saying the baby is coming on the 1st Feb it will happen Hmm - so is planning on going to quizzes and things in the whole 5 days when he is here before the 1st!

So pleased i packed my bag before Xmas now. Although worried i haven't got enough food- and worried i hadn't thought about sandwiches - but i have got £22 in pound coins for the vending machine - and I'm planning to put a jar of marmite in the case.

And i'm also at that point now, where if baby comes anytime in next month, as long as i'm over all these stupid pulled muscles and crap, i don't care if DH is there or not! Shock

And lastly - my New Year's resolution - not to leave this borad for too long - otherwise there's mammoth messages to read Grin

CupcakesHay · 03/01/2011 13:51

PS. My Strep B came back negative. So that's one piece of good luck i've had lately!

cyberfairy · 03/01/2011 15:27

£22 in pound coins! That's a hell of a lot of Doritos! I have also been craving stilton-it's all reduced at the mo as well. I also want a very large glass of red wine but that's par for the course.
I have just bought after days of searching, a nightie top with buttons for breastfeeding only to find they are fake buttons that don't undoAngry I can't find any slippers that I would rather not die than wear. I'm still going to packing my sodding hospital bags in March at this rate.
I must say I am full of admiration for the women on this thread who already have kids and the ones who are doing it by themselves. I am really struggling now despite being able to flop on sofa for hours at a time and be looked after by DP. I feel bad for neglecting the cat!

Don't panic her more than I already have jjkm!! :o

Slippers schmippers - nice woolly socks will do the job nicely - although I will re-recommend waterproof flip-flops for the shoowers for all who missed me saying it first time... Hmm

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 15:56

showers Blush

RunningKatie · 03/01/2011 16:24

Afternoon all

Been out for a drive in DP's old mini today, realised that it classes as a bumpy drive but no sign of baby being that bothered! :)

My hospital bag contains 2 packs of fig biscuits, 6 little cartons of orange juice, 2 sports bottles of water, pack of choc chip cookies and my sisters old copies of some trashy celeb mag. I tried making a CD of my favourite songs, but despite working in IT for 14 years it was a very traumatic evening and the bliddy thing doesn't work properly. I've got it on my list of things to re-try in the next few weeks...

Cupcakes - good point on the marmite, might have to put that in too.
Crystylline - anything happening now? I was only saying to DP earlier it's a bit frustrating being told that your waters might or might not break, you might or might not have a show, and you might or might not have BH.
Pootle, I did love the washing story, I was being so careful removing tags and stuff, DP didn't notice any of them so was just lobbing things in the machine. All appears to have survived thus far.

We're going out tonight, I'm not sure it's a good idea as by 8pm I now want to be in my PJs but it's a friends 30th and I fear she'll be more of a drama queen than ever if we don't at least show our faces. I've told DP if I double over it's unlikely that I'm in labour but more that I've had enough and just want to go home Wink

AmIGoingMad · 03/01/2011 16:43

Wow- I've missed so much again!
Maternity leave starts on Wed so hopefully I'll get my act together then!
cupcakes poor you- you've had everything in the last few weeks! Good news on the strep B tho! I haven't even been told I'll be tested for that so we'll see tomorrow when I see midwife!
flora glad that the monitoring showed some good news for you!
crystl how are you doing?
pootle I'm not packed either! aargh! Starting to panic a bit now! Due on 27th and finishing work tomorrow but also have lots of work stuff left to do at home by next monday! Just hope that my little one can hang on for at least a fortnight- you'll all have to remind me that I said that if I end up going overdue Grin
Nursery furniture's now all been assembled so that's a start!
Also have hair appt on Wed! The saga continues! Was meant to go last Fri but I had to cancel to go to have flu jab- decided to in the end and so far I feel ok! Long may that continue!
I'm starting to feel really terrified of labour and birth now- aaargh! Also, cannot find nice nightie which unbuttons to allow for skin to skin- any ideas?

AmIGoingMad · 03/01/2011 16:45

Ooh- also...
I'm hoping to breastfeed if I can manage it but MIL suggested it'd be a good idea to have some bottles and steriliser here ready in case it doesn't work or for future use- which seems to make sense to me. Can any of you advise this first timer on which ones to get? It's like a minefield!

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 16:51

I've used avent bottles and steriliser in the past, and been very happy with them. microwaveable sterilisers are best IMO

re:nightie, I've always used my DH's old shirts but also have a couple of breastfeeding PJ tops which unclip - mothercare do them...

Crystylline · 03/01/2011 16:56

Hi All,

No change Sad

had a bath and a nap - still got BH, though stomach has calmed.

I bought button up PJs for breastfeeding and skin to skin. They're huge and so hoping they'll be comfy, as I hate night shirts. And i agree about big socks too - especially with grips on them. Live in them at home.

As for cheese... I want any cheese that isn't cheddar! and lots of it. christmas has not been the same without smelly blue cheese and port.

How are the twins JJKM?

and AIGM I've been given a steriliser and bottles - they are Avent ones, but I've also got a couple of Tommy Tippee bottles with teats for newborns too. Hope not to use them as would prefer to give breastfeeding a try and not keen on giving baby formula milk that has fish in it [BOAK].

RunningKatie · 03/01/2011 16:57

I asked the MW about strep B after jjkm mentioned it, apparently they don't test for it in Derbyshire.

Just ordered a stack of baby books from the library, realised we have a lot for the pregnancy/birth but then they all stop. I'm sure this baby will have us sussed out as amateurs very quickly. Confused

Shanster · 03/01/2011 17:38

So glad to hear that I am not the only mother letting her other DCs eat chocolate and watch DVDs!! Turns out being back at work today is not nearly as much effort as being home with toddler :)
LadyBubbaandBump, you are not being unreasonable, it is my birthday next week also and while I'll gladly accept a few pressies I'd like to leave my birthday dinner until after baby arrives when I can have a glass of wine.

AIGM - had steriliser with DD1 but within a couple of months had switched to just using the dishwasher instead, much more practical! I went back to work at 12 weeks with DD1, and although I BF her for a year I got her to start taking expressed milk from MAM bottles from about 6 weeks old. They were the only type she would accept.

RunningKate, did you ask your midwife about the option of paying for the strep B test? I know the NHS doesn't test for it routinely, but I do know a girl who passed it to her baby (home birth) and the baby nearly died. Since then most of my friends still in the UK have been able to pay (ithink 15GBP) to be tested for it.

Pootle78 · 03/01/2011 17:55

Oh cupcakes you really are having a bad time of it, fingers crossed things start to settle down.

Crystyl still keeping an eye on you as our due dates are the same

Another one who asked mw about strep b and was told it can come and go, so if they tested early in pregnancy and was Neg you wouldn't necessary be Neg by the time you get to labour and vise versa Confused

I really need to stop spending now, I didn't think we had spent much or got much but since new years day we have bought the cot and matress, baby gym, baby bath, bambino mio nappies up to potty training, nappy holder, more mat pads, some disposable changing mats as were cheaper than maternity sheets, bibs, cuddle robes for bath time and probably a load of stuff I have forgotten about but the nursery is now finished all bits are in there and I just need to buy some sheets and fingers crossed that will be it!

Have got mil coming on Thurs to help blitz t.e house so need to do some tidying upbefore she gets here!

Pootle78 · 03/01/2011 17:57

Plus a new Hoover as dh blew our old one up yesterday!

RockLovesMincePies · 03/01/2011 18:14

Bummer! Just spoke to the mw to talk about a pre-birth appt this week, that's scary enough, but we have the other problem of my iron count.

I have been VERY lax in taking my iron tabs and Spatone due to laziness my ibs and she said if it hasn't risen enough I have to have iron injections. She then helpfully informed me that they are rather unpleasant and I can only imagine the side effects on my poor tummy.

I'm bricking it now and only hoping I can neck enough iron to make a difference before the end of the week. Can they force me to have iron injections? I'm really quite scared. :(

CupcakesHay · 03/01/2011 18:31

Feeling a bit better now - have had a few naps.

I had to pay for strep B myself (£32 thru a site called mums stuff) - but Dh read up on it and thought it was good idea.

Yes - how are the twins jjkm?

OOoh poor you on the iron front rock - can't you just drink a guiness a day and eat liver and spinach every night - although personally i think i'd rather the injections!

I had same problem with a nightie - but i've decided just to whip it up for skin-to-skin contact (no dignity afetr giving birht and all that). As for breast feeding - i have 2 pj tops with buttons - that'll have to do.

I have crocs for hospital - figured can wash it get covered in gunk!

I also have a HUGE bag of bottles in the loft that my friend gave me, along with her breast pump and steriliser - so sorted on worse case - although - what formula do i get if b-feeding doens't work??? is there a "best" one???

Pleased you are feeling a little better crystylline - hang in there - won't be long by the sounds of it!

And love your bumping in the mini running. Very funny!

And bubba agree with all - ave your birthday night out til you feel more like it!

Oooh- my mum just moved the moses basket into the front room from the shed as she was worried it would get damp. Seems all a bit mroe real now. Eeek! Won't it be odd meeting our little boys and girls! I'm very very very excited about that bit - but not the rest!

saltnvinigarcrips · 04/01/2011 00:01

I know what you mean cupcakes, i've just sorted all the sheets and blankets for the moses basket and it does all seem very real and scary although I can't wait to meet Lo. Just dreading the actual birth. Think it is just fear of the unknown at the minute and feel lots of pressure down there so keep thinking things must be starting soon. Not that i know if what i'm experiencing is 'normal'. Going to go into work tomorrow to tie up a few loose ends but it's so nice knowing it will be the last time i'm there for a long time :)
Still feeling full of cold and sorry for myself. Hope you feel better soon cupcakes and I think I might see about paying for Strep B test too as I have been paranoid about that. Do you just ask your GP or midwife?
Out of curiosity is anyone else experiencing weird, nervy pains down below?

Aww lovely about the bigger twin jjkm - sure they'll both continue to go from strength to strength. Sure the littler one will make her mark soon enough - they're not yet full term in real timeso they've still got a bit of catching up to do in any case. Any idea when they might be allowed home?

saltnvinegar you're not missing anything great with the INSET today (but shhh, don't tell my DH!!):o How are the pains?

Anyone else been up for hours?

Crystylline · 04/01/2011 08:23

me, me! I've been up for hours!

Just off to the hospital now for my scan and check up, so fingers crossed that all is well.

lovely news jjkm sounds like they are doing really well and all the best.

right, updates later x
