looks around nervously
hi, just seen this thread despite lurking on mumsnet for a couple of months. I am due on the 29th January-so relieved an end is in sight at last-was doing really well until last month or so when sudden heartburn, backpain, painful hips etc. I think he will be an only child and very much looking forward to meeting him.
And err, has anyone else got TWO hospital bags as too much stuff to fit in one?!
Good luck everyone!

LadyBubbaAndBump · 02/01/2011 18:53

Welcome cyberfairy don't be nervous - we'll be gentle! :)

What the hell do you have though in your hospital bags?!

Crystylline · 02/01/2011 19:11

Yay - finally the Archers is on!!

cupcakes have you strapped up your muscle strain - and is it ligaments or muscular? if ligaments - use ice, if muscular - use heat, or soak and wring out a towel with cold water and wrap it around the area, then cover with a dry towel - it will heat up with your body and eases the pain brilliantly. Also try arnica cream.

bucketloads of sympathy for you - it's the last thing you need right now. x

Hurrah for mat leave katie - mine starts this week too - so will officially (for the first time in my life) become a lady who lunches (at home, on yoghurt and soup...)

Zippy agreed on waiting for this one to come in his own time. I think he's little, so want him to have enough growing time!

Welcome cyberfairy We are gentle... occasionally! I'm due 26th Jan and he'll be my first. Am also going to be a single parent, so excited and scared in equal measures! Smile

Crystylline · 02/01/2011 19:12

oh and Pootle

GO AND PACK!!

p.s - i've done something similar with new baby things, so i'm very glad that i can now put it down to baby brain Wink

LadyBuzz · 02/01/2011 19:24

Welcome cyberfairy

bubba i'm with you, the sooner the better for me, i'm dying to know what she looks like. Both DSs were exactly the same when they were born except for the colour of their hair.

pootle get packing girl!

I have 2 bags for hospital too, one for me and one for baby - Is that too much? I will be in for a few days though!!

Crystylline · 02/01/2011 19:31

ladyB

I have two bags too - one for me and one for the baby.

no idea how long I'll be in for, but figured it was the easiest way of organising myself!

LadyBubbaAndBump · 02/01/2011 19:38

I do have two then if you count the baby's bag, although his/hers is the size of a small changing bag <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=christmaspresentideas.org.uk/shopping/img/4/14484.jpg&imgrefurl=christmaspresentideas.org.uk/shopping/products/Baby-Products/Pink-Lining.html&usg=__pali8rzrXA-0dVWqs6ezFuwWCUs=&h=298&w=298&sz=25&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=IirQESl2kfZLuM:&tbnh=154&tbnw=154&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dyummy%2Bmummy%2Bcupcakes%2Bchanging%2Bbag%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7GGLL_en%26biw%3D1007%26bih%3D462%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=303&vpy=70&dur=3500&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=113&ty=145&ei=ktMgTerrM5KGhQfjiIm4Dg&oei=ktMgTerrM5KGhQfjiIm4Dg&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=9&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this one which my sis gave me for DD1

I figure I'll get a few babygrows as visitors come in, so just have three babygrows and a whole load of nappies, plus a few extra bits and pieces

I assumed cyber meant two bags for herself?

FloraPost · 02/01/2011 19:50

Hey Running, good to hear your NCT class is bonding a bit. I am going out to lunch with mine next Saturday. I will be more intimidated if they have tidy houses than massive ones! I am due on 28th Jan btw.

I also have 2 bags but half of mine is filled with sodding mat pads. I swear we will need a skip for those when I come home; the dustbin won't be up to the job.

Monitoring fine again today but they did it in a delivery room because the triage room was in use. F* me, I don't want to go back into one of those. Anyone know what a lithotomy pole is? Don't google it. The only thing missing was a rack of steel instruments hanging from the wall. Tomorrow is now earmarked for clearing out the shed so I can give birth all by myself in there (quakes).

cyberfairy · 02/01/2011 20:35

Hello, yes, one bag for baby and one for me-just been upstairs repacking and wondering how the hell I never noticed I have no baby vests and only one scratch mitt to my name. And will I be frowned upon for having packed three packs of pickled onion monster munch? Blush The hospital list I was given in antenatal is so outdated it mentions video cameras but not mobile phones and suspicious when they stipulate vests, they mean babygros...oh god, every day my ignorance grows...

LadyBubbaAndBump · 02/01/2011 20:44

No, pickled onion monster munch are definitely par for the course. And biscuit boosts. I have both in mine Blush.

flora it's quite scary seeing the delivery room - although the OR is even worse! tbh though, when you're mid-labour, the last thing you notice is the surroundings.

Anyone packing music? I don't do mp3 or anything sophisticated, so have to rely on my old CD walkman. Got my DH hunting like mental for my GnR Appetite for Destruction CD!! George Michael accompanied me and DD1's welcome to the world :o

cyberfairy · 02/01/2011 20:56

I was scared seeing delivery room as well-it did not help that it was during my test for gestational diabetes at the hospital when I had fainted due to not being able to eat that day and then when I came to and asked to use loo, it was filled to the brim with blood-that toilet keeps coming back to haunt me.

I am considering some nice dub music to take in-tempted to get some LED candles but don't want to take it too far and look like I'm expecting a stay in a boutique hotel.
Thanks for welcome, everyoneSmile

Crystylline · 02/01/2011 21:04

ooh monster munch! and biccies! good shout... i hadn't even thought about food, or music for that matter.

i just packed clothes, mat pads, etc... nothing fun for me at all.

might put a book in, or is that daft?

btw, i've seen three delivery rooms now and they were all v. nice and clean with the torture racks of metal all hidden behind a curtain! one even had a huge squashy sofa (presume for family, or birth partners).

and it was an NHS hospital...

however - haven't even started ante natal classes yet - that's this week to come - as there weren't any places before now... which i think is a bit crap!

LadyBuzz · 02/01/2011 21:06

Oooooh bubba I LOVE that changing bag its fab!

You can't beat a bit of GnR for birthing music - Good choice Grin

cyberfairy · 02/01/2011 21:11

I would recommend a book, certainly can't hurt and I like the security and passport into another world they can bring!
Good luck with ante-natal, I have had two classes so far, I've worried about going to them so late as well in case I give birth before the class on how to give birth Wink

Shanster · 02/01/2011 22:09

Hi Ladies, sounds like everyone is still hanging in there. All this talk of hospital bags has me a little nervous. I thought I'd use my time over over Christmas to get organised, but I still haven't washed all my baby clothes/packed bag etc. Was much more on top of things with my first. Back to work for me tomorrow, dreadful thought! Hopefully baby will arrive on time and I'll only have a few more weeks to go in the office. Am whale like now, poor DD is watching DVDs this afternoon because I can't summon the energy to take her to the park. Is having a new baby easier than being pregnant with one whilst looking after a toddler?

RockLovesMincePies · 02/01/2011 22:52

Hi ladies, sorry I haven't posted for a while, I was staying with my parents for 5 days over the new year.

Just got back home tonight with lots of hospital bag essentials for baby and me (thanks Mum and sis for being so generous and helpful). Now I just have to pack all these things in my lovely new bags, I can't believe I'm due in around 4 weeks!

My dd had her 6th birthday on New Year's Day and is now a very happy and present laden young lady. She knows now that she is 6 baby will soon be here!

I've been getting lovely swollen ankles and feet for the last 3 days, put together with my double chin, flabby belly and dimpled thighs, I can honestly say I look great!

I am so looking forward to this pregnancy finishing, but I am beginning to worry about the birth. Is anyone else dreading it?

Anyway, I hope everyone had a great New Year and you are all feeling well.

Pootle78 · 02/01/2011 23:11

Went out for dinner instead of packing - oops, have promised dh I'll have it finished before my next mw appointment on Wed, however must say after reading the "what do I need to pack for labour" on the pregnancy board my pile of food and drink is huge!

Have drink, water, oj, Lucozade, hot chocolate sachets (don't drink tea or coffee) then I have flapjacks, cow biscuits, mars bars for dh, jelly babies, dried apricots to help with bowel movement, think that's it so pickled monster munch and a few boosts is not enough! Plus our midwife at parent craft told us to make sandwiches for dh when contractions start and take with us plus we can have 2 birthing partners so the other one "can nip out for takeaway"

I refuse to go hungry! Have also told dh as soon as possible I want a brie and tomato panini!

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 09:47

Sod the DH/birthing partner - they can sort themselves bloody out!! :o

My mum brought brie and camembert into the hospital after the birth of DD1 - best present ever!!

yes Rock I suddenly remembered the birth process and told my DH last night I wasn't going to do it this time, and he could do it in my place Hmm

Christmas decorations down, DCs scoffing their way through the remaining advent calendar chocs they 'forgot' about, and I'm pretending not to know that's what they're doing!! Bad Mother title to me please (to go with my New Year's Honours)

FloraPost · 03/01/2011 09:48

What is it with antenatal class leaders and their obsession with sandwiches? Every time our NCT class discusses activities for early labour, making sandwiches is top of the list. Maybe I should get a loaf to keep in my drawer at work so that if my waters break there I can start buttering immediately Hmm.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 09:52

lol Flora :o

RockLovesMincePies · 03/01/2011 11:22

Children scoffing Christmas sweets??? Doesn't that mean all of us Mums would get worst mother of the year awards lol?

DD is watching one of her 15 (yes 15!!!!) dvd's she got for Christmas in her bedroom whilst eating chocolate and a bowl of Rice Crispies for good measure. I don't feel guilty at all, she is in her element! :)

Today I have to go and do a big grocery shop and then I intend to make a start on washing all the baby clothes so I can pack my hospital bag.

I am lucky that my dsis had her son last Feb so is giving me loads of stuff. However, as her and my parents live nearly 200 miles from me I won't be getting everything until my parents drive down here when I am in labour.

So although I know I have a car seat, pushchair, moses basket, steriliser etc to come, I am getting all panicky that it's not here already. I'm definitely getting the nesting urge which is ridiculous because I am usually allergic to housework!

Right, I'm off to eat more chocolate as I have decided Christmas is not over until dd is back at school on Wed. Have a lovely day ladies.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 11:31

Yes, true, but they're two and three and were left to it while I was on MN!! Hmm

I've just had my first superdooper hot choc - together with marshmallows and whipped cream. And yesterday at Sainsbo's bought myself some lovely new PJs for the girls to give me for my birthday next week.

AIBU? Some friends have asked where I want to go for my birthday next week, and I've asked if we can postpone until I can eat and drink plenty without feeling guilty or fecking uncomfortable, and without wanting to be asleep by 9.

Right, I've played Tummy Ache and MacDonald's Farm, have tidied the girls' room and clothes, and have cleared away Christmas decorations and tree. Still in my PJs though, so maybe a long hot soak in the bath while I convince DH to take the girls to the park?

Crystylline · 03/01/2011 11:41

morning all!

woken up with rotten stomach (TMI). BH are horrible as well.

off to have a bath.

BOAK to the thought of chocolate for me today! (now that's a first!!)

but, have managed to snag a load of reusable nappies on free-cycle - YAY!

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 11:50

Oooh - all sounds like things might be on their way for you Crysty!! But then, I read everything into everything...

Crystylline · 03/01/2011 11:55

eek! really?

I'm not ready!!

Do i ring the MW - I'm 36 +5, so unsure.
