New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Am sitting on the sofa watching a re-run of Pride & Prejudice, got a sore throat, runny nose etc. so am having a quiet day. Have packed DP off to go and play with his brother and niece on the steam railway! :)

Bubba - they do sound like a bit of a nightmare. Three whole days more? Oh dear.

Anyone got plans for NYE? We were invited to a bit of a party but I'm not keen to go.

Right, off to eat my body weight in chocolate whilst DP is out. Surely chocolate is medicinal isn't it?! Xmas Grin

RockLovesMincePies · 28/12/2010 12:41

I just messaged you back Cupcakes.

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare Bubba, but as you say, it will be over soon.

I am trying to relax before making the 4 hr drive up to my parents to pick up dd from her dad's then celebrate her birthday with my family (she is a New Year's Day baby).

At the moment I have an upset tummy and horrid nausea and I couldn't feel less like driving, but I know I have to. Dreading it, but I'm hopefully going to be ok to leave by late afternoon.

Hope everybody else is having a good day today.

CupcakesHay · 28/12/2010 13:05

Ok bubba you CAN DO IT! Feel free to rant on here - amazing isn't it with huffing and puffing that your FIL didn't help you! Love the "indoor voice" comment.

I can finally whisper, so to my Blush I may have been ranting a little to my mum about my MIL. But so nice to voice frustration rather than write it down!!!! And feeling about back to 80% normal!

Yes running of course choc is medicinal. Be careful not to let it get any worse. My top recommendation is just stick your head above bowl of boiling water and chuck towel over and kind of steam yourself for 10 mins.

New year - my bro and SIL are meant to be coming down to my parents, but he has the lurgy now and despite telling me 2 weeks ago I was "milking it" Hmm he has now decided it's really quite bad - so not sure if they'll make. TBH - would happily stay in and watch some TV!

And cheers ladybuzz feel better about the clothes...

Poor you rock having to drive whilst feeling sick. Were you this bad with your first?

RockLovesMincePies · 28/12/2010 15:07

I had hyperemesis with dd (v & d), so ended up in hospital for a week on a drip. But by 6 months I was pretty much nausea free.

With this one I have not thrown up, but have felt constantly sick with horrific heartburn right from the word go.

I still haven't left for Oxfordshire yet as I'm feeling woeful, tummy ache, nausea and constant reflux; I just can't get into the car like this.

Baby has decided that after 2 quiet days he is going to be mental today, which on one hand is good, but on the other he is not helping my already sore tummy.

Glad you're feeling a bit better Cupcakes.

BubbaAndBump · 28/12/2010 17:37

Hiding again Xmas Blush - told my MIL she should possibly help clear the table after lunch, instead of sitting there telling me and my DH there were still things left on the table that needed to go into the dishwasher Xmas Shock! Then she brought a couple of glasses through AND PUT THEM ON TOP OF THE OPEN DISHWASHER Xmas Angry

Sheesh.

Anyways, sorry you've been unwell Rock and cupcakes glad you're getting your voice back.

Running - choc. is definitely medicinal - it's worked for me anyway Xmas Grin

I had a MW appt today, and she's booked me in for a sweep on the 11th Jan because of the humungous (sp?) size of the previous two, and because they can't induce me because of the C-section last time, so she doesn't want me to go over, and nor do I. Chuffed about that - she said it went against protocol but in my case, she felt we needed to make an exception to the rule Xmas Smile Xmas Hmm Xmas Smile

OP posts:
LadyBuzz · 28/12/2010 19:05

bubba count to 10 and breathe! She sounds lovely Grin

Great news about the sweep - hope it works out!

rock hope you are feeling better.

BubbaAndBump · 28/12/2010 20:08

Just had to count to 110 with FIL as he blatantly interrupted me while I was speaking, and when I tried to make light of it, he got the hump and hasn't talked to me since!!

And breathe.............

Still, may have this baby in two weeks' time, so can't let ILs ruin that thought. Also sneakily bought some very, very sweet mini-PJs in the colour of the flavour we've been told we're having - so either these or these

Had to hide them away in case anyone peeks in the bag Xmas Grin

OP posts:
CupcakesHay · 28/12/2010 21:07

OOoooh - adorable bubba - my mum told me baby's don;t wear pyjamas til there older - and i thought she was talking crap - but now I know she was. Damn - if my DH hadn't given me a talking to about spending money - i'd be rushing out buying some of those cute blue PJs.

And poor poor you with your PILs - how rude is your MIL. that's just AWFUL!

I actually feel a hell of a lot better - but then that's made me realise how I feel properly 35 weeks pregnant!

Brill news as well on the sweep bubba - cling onto that thought... and smugly sit there KNOWING that they don't know if you are having a boy or a girl. You should tell the PIL after the event - that'll put their noses out of joint. Xmas Wink

Poor you rock - no wonder you stayed hidden from us for so long! Hope you finally made it up to Oxfordshire, poor love.

Off to have my Strep B swab done tomorrow - and did Perineal gel for first time tonight... ugh. Going to eat some Yule log with clotted cream in a second - so healthy! Xmas Grin

Pootle78 · 28/12/2010 21:42

bubba I feel for you with the in-law issue, I've told dh that fil is banned from hospital and will not be stepping foot in the house either! We've not spoken since before we got married in 2006, and currently a new baby won't change that! YOu can choose your friends ...

Anywayoh wise mothers out there, I have just written of things I need to pack using the thread from the pregnancy board the other week and everyone says take more pads than you think. How many actually? I was thinking 3 packs plus always nighttime is that enough or do I need more?

CupcakesHay · 28/12/2010 23:36

Good question pootle I have 20 mat pads... is that enough?

On this whole hospital bag thing - am I being normal - I have a mini suitcase and then a bag with the baby bits in? See we live about 1 hour from hospital - and once my Dad drops me and DH off - I'm not expecting him to come back til it's time to pick us up... so i'm kind of planning for worse case scenario - but don't want to lok stupid when I turn up with it!

OK - have just had a girlie cry... have been feeling properly pregnant today - I think cos of having a bad cold for last 3 weeks have been focusing on that. Anyhow, had shower and found it incredibly hard to shave legs (blood everywhere!) Then went wobbly twice bending down... and then having to act like a gymnast to put perineal gel on didn't help. Anyhow - finally lie on sofa with parents to watch Upstairs, Downstairs... and half way through just glanced at my feet and they are HUGE. Like ankles and toes and feet are just swollen - massive. And then I just started crying Xmas Blush. my parents are looking on in worry and when i explained why, obviously thought I was mad Xmas Hmm, and then bless my dad he googled swollen feet in pregnancy and made me feel better.

The thing is i know it's a normal thing in pregnancy, but it just took me by surprise! So now wondering if i'll have swollen feet for next month or so or will it be one off?

LadyBuzz · 29/12/2010 07:58

cupcakes in a word no that probably isn't enough. I have approx 3 packs in my bag (I will be in for a couple of days though).
I also have another 4 packs at home.
Don't worry about them being Mat pads maxi or nighttime will do.

Some hospitals do like you to have the proper mat ones at first - something to do with them being slightly different and alowing blood loss to be monitored.

I also have a weekend bag and my changing bag with baby bits in so don't worry - the lady opposite me had an enormous suitcase when I had DS2 -
You will be surprised what some people turn up with!!

Swollen feet are very normal in pg and so is crying for no reason, it might be a one off or they may stay like that.
I don't want to panic you but it CAN be a sign of pre eclampsia starting so keep an eye on it and headaches/vision/ blood pressure and such like.
When is your next MW appointment?

pootle you certainly can't chose your family!
My Dad phoned last week and told me that he wants to be the first to see the baby this time (before MIL and SIL) Hmm
this coming in the same phonecall when he told me that after being arranged for 3 weeks he didn't want the boys the following day - he asked we didn't!! I am severly p**d off with him.
MIL was with me for my 36 hour labour and EMCS with DS1 and left in panic when I had complications with DS2. He was not.
SIL has DS2 1 day a week while I work and will take them at a drop of a hat if I ask - she is fab. He never has them ever!

Hmmm I think I might still be a little annoyed by this Grin.

Crystylline · 29/12/2010 09:36

Hi all. Lurking on my mobile again from my folks' house and going home tomorrow.

Hi to Rock, I'm also in devon and hope all ia well and that the snow has now gone.

I've also suddenly started feeling all teary cupcakes. Not like me at all, so been taking the same medicine as katie... Mmm chocolate!

Sorry about ils bubba. What a nightmare... Would be tempted to put them in the dishwasher and not the glasses!

Still no sign of the baby and think he's now breech as have large alien type baby bump under my right ribs. Ho hum. Off to see mw next week and scan, so will have to wait patiently.

Take care all x

ZippyPippy · 29/12/2010 09:52

Poor you bubba I really feel for you, luckily I refused to do any hosting this Christmas but we had family over before Christmas who were quite happy to waited on hand and foot by a heavily pregnant woman and not lift a finger to help - what is wrong with these people!? Xmas Angry

Glad you are feeling better cupcakes and like ladybuzz says keep an eye on the swelling but it's very normal and I'm pretty sure will disappear as soon as you have the baby. My fingers are a bit swollen so I've taken my rings off to save them getting stuck.

And sorry you feel so rubbish rock hope you feel better soon. I had a very dodgy tummy yesterday must be all the rich christmas food I've been scoffing, but I did have a 'oh my goodness i hope this isn't the onset of labour' moment!! Luckily not, I want a few weeks of relaxing, quite happy for this baby to wait until due day.

Ok so stupid question time, all this talk of baby outfits - do you put the vest under the body suit or is a body suit on its own enough?!?! Blush

Crystylline · 29/12/2010 10:09

Hi zippy.

Vest under body suit i think.

And meant to add cheers for the mat pads tip. I've not got nearly enough, so off to buy some more.

CupcakesHay · 29/12/2010 12:05

Oooh - off to buy more mat pads as soon as i can be arsed to leave the house! And thanks for making me feel better about my "luggage" Grin

ladybuzz Grrrrr Xmas Angry I don't blame you for being a bit mad with your Dad - a bit cheeky isn't it. why do people think they can put conditions on stuff when you are having a baby?

Swellng is a bit bettr today - still in one foot, but not as bad - planing to watch movie later and rest! Also had strep B swab this morning (nice!) and spoke to nurse about it - and she said same, just keep an eye on it.

Yeah zippy- i was the same about baby grows/vests - but think i've got it figured out now - hopefully! I still am yo-yoing between thinking I have too many clothes, adn in the next thought, not enough!

hi crystylline pleased all ok- like the sound of the alien bump! let's see what the m/wife says! rock's a Totnes girl.

CupcakesHay · 29/12/2010 14:30

Meant to say - had blood pressure checked out this morning and it's normal - but thanks for the tp ladybuzz i'll keep an eye on the swelling of my foot. Have mid wife on the 6th Jan - so a week away.

BubbaAndBump · 29/12/2010 14:47

Hey ladies Xmas Smile

Re: maternity pads, I'm taking 3 packs of 10 to the hospital, hoping not to need them all, then buying them as we go along afterwards. First baby I bled for about 10 weeks Xmas Shock Xmas Shock

Re: vests etc, my rule of thumb which always worked for me was one extra layer than you would wear. But if out and about, another extra layer or blanket as you're walking along pushing a big fat baby and so generating your own heat, and they're normally lying still doing not a great deal. Always a hat - and many babygrows have mitten folds and feet included which are great, because, unless you staple mittens and socks onto little things (which is frowned upon for some reason), the little buggers wriggle the mittens and socks off.

About to wheel and deal with a car dealer, so wish me luck...

RockLovesMincePies · 29/12/2010 17:33

Hello ladies . I finally made it to my parents and I'm glad to report that the journey was better than I anticipated.

I am feeling a tad better than yesterday, but still nauseous with tummy ache, although I suppose I'm used to it by now. I've got the return journey to look forward to on Sunday as well, hoorah!

But at least I have my beautiful dd back with me after a week at her Dad's over Christmas. She is currently building a scary lego shark type thing with DP in my parents very festive living room Xmas Grin.

I have a shopping expedition to get through tomorrow as I need to buy birthday presents for her for New Year's Day. I also have £30 in Boots gift cards that I am going to spend on my hospital bag essentials. How exciting to spend Christmas gifts on maternity towels and nappies!!

Anyway, I'm awaiting a dinner of chicken fajitas and chips (oh so healthy), so I will leave you ladies to your evenings. Hope you all have a good one.

Hi all, just popping in for a minute whilst trying to avoid the potty training we're attempting here. I have this mad idea I'll have DD out of nappies before the bump arrives!
Have organised baby's room but have only got as far as getting my bag out of the loft, must put some things in it! Not really sure what I need this time though as I'll be going to the midwife unit all being well and you can't stay overnight there so guess just a change of clothes for me, pads for the various leaky bits and baby stuff. Will ask midwife what she thinks next week.
Sorry the ILs are driving everyone mad, we've got off quite lightly this year, went to MIL for Christmas day but we get on really well, have FIL, Step MIL and their 3 boys here tomorrow though which is always manic, feel some hiding coming on.
Right back to asking DD if she needs a wee every 5 mins!

AmIGoingMad · 29/12/2010 20:11

Hello!
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas! Cupcakes- you are not alone on the over emotional and swelling issue! My feet are like sausages and I too cried when I saw them! Had a leg massage as part of my pamper day yesterday tho which made them feel almost normal for all of a few hours!
Also- after my hair appt drama for last week I booked in somewhere new (scary for me) and was all ready to go when they phoned this morning to cancel- cue more tears! Also in last 3 days our washing machine has broken down and our ceiling was leaking- only in hallway luckily! Crazy!
Nursey furniture arrived today tho so that's lovely!
I know a couple of you have mentioned it but I really don't know what to do about the flu jab. I don't like the idea of it at all at 36 weeks but not sure- help!
Bubba keep breathing- you're doing really well!

CupcakesHay · 29/12/2010 20:20

OOOh fuzzy can't wait til I get to the potty training! you make it sound so fun Grin

Not sure i want this baby now - kind of imagined i'd have it and that would be it - but there's all the fun of 10 weeks of bleeding, sore nipples, night feeds. is it to late to send it back????

rock buy yourself SOMETHING fun with your boots vouchers - maybe some nice half price make up? ANd as for fajita and chips - sounds delicious!

Bubba I think you should write a book, you are just so wise with all the things you say. I swear I wouldn't know where to start ondressing a baby til you helped!

My mothercare order came today - a precious bear cot tidy and laundry bag (not needed, but in sale, and thought it will just look so nice with the rest of the precious bear bits, that i'm pleased i bought them) and a changing mat. The excitement!

Oh - and my parents went to docs - and they were given anitbiotics and doc reckons they have swine flu Shock! So lucky, a) i had jab and b) i passed it onto them! No wonder i was so ill. but my dad saw same doc i had on Xmas eve and he told my dad he remembered me and was pleased i came in when I did as we caught it in time with antibiotics adn who knows what would have happeend over 4 dasy of christmas without me having antibiotics - and he didn't want to panic me by telling me he suspected it was swine flu - because the antibiotics would cure!

Still swollen foot - despite sticking it on pouffe for 2 hours watching Miss Marple with my mum!

And currently dreading going out for New year... wish I could stay in and watch glee.

BubbaAndBump · 29/12/2010 21:01

Thanks cupcakes ~ it's def. a case of trial and error though.

I have had the swine flu jab and am not normally a medicine-taking person. Poor you AmI with all the hormones - it's a hard time in pregnancy, and if the mean old hairdressers cancel.

My latest rant (just a mini-one here) - sat next to my FIL during supper of carbonara (yummm), except his way of eating it made me want to chunder... he leant right over the bowl, literally just three or four inches away from it, shovelled in a big forkful at a time, letting all the linguine hang down from his mouth into the bowl, then biting it to let it all drop back down into the bowl. Yuckity ickity yuck. DD1 told him off for his bad manners earlier today!!! ROFL Blush Grin

Oh fuzzy poor you and potty training. Quite genuinely the hardest thing I've found (so far Hmm) about having kids. The patience needed.... ooooooooooh, so glad it's over for my two DDs. Next one is going to do it by itself without me caring. Staying dry at night time is somehow less stressful, although the washing machine's on a lot Sad. Sympathy to you at this fun time!

OP posts:
CupcakesHay · 29/12/2010 22:45

amI - poor you with the hairdressers - maybe you're destined to be a long haired hippy??? And all the leaks and everything! My tors are less sausage like today, but maybe i'm just getting more used to it!

And bubba - love your description of your FIL's eating. Must admit, noticed my MIL's noisy slurping/eating at christmas dinner - even though I know i have appalling habits, it just really wound me up!

Baby is lying really really close to my ribs tonight - I actually think he lying sideays. So uncomfy!
