Kristina and Busy - Thanks for the info - I could definitely imagine myself standing staring at my pants in horror at the sight of any tissue (not Charmin Ultra kind)- also must remember to buy more pads in Tesco - no wonder they are so cheap - never reckoned you's need so many!

Nova - Have my first antenatal tonight - so that should be fun, will have to compare notes with everyone!

ChaCha - yes I can definitely see why Islam says that, oh boy, I didn't know there was so much to giving birth - they never tell you all this before you decide to conceive do they, mind you the human race may be smaller if they did!!!

Right I have dentists today - haven't been properly in years and am really worried they are either going to tell me off or laugh at my teeth, don't think I'll be getting a sticker anyhow! Last time I went was in Thailand as I thought that even if they do tell me off or laugh I can take comfort in the fact they either think I'm great becuase I'm English or just eccentric - plus I won't see them around much. Anyway turned out to be a horrible experience where they took plaque out from under my gums, I mean to the jaws, without anesthetic, I just remember at one point opening my eyes and looking at the dentist who was covered in my blood, and I mean covered!!!! Am a bit scared now!

Right then off for brekkie, shower and the some psyching up!!!

busy i had to laugh after reading your post. When i first started my mw training i took a phone call from a lady who had been told by a friend to sit on ice as it was soothing for her stitches, (on the face of it good advice) however lady literaly sat on a huge uncovered block of ice for 1-2 hrs It took an ambulance and a set of plastic surgeons to unfreeze her and then sort out the frost bite!!!! on her bits.Anything in modration is good eh
The weather here is sh*t today, but at least dh is back from france. We are forcast floods for today so may need canoe to get kids from school

Enthusia - good luck with dentist. At least it's free now you are pregnant, although I got stung for £45 for a 20 min hygeneist appointment (not free!).

I've still to pack a bag. Think I've a few nighties and toiletries together so far - nothing for the babies, but I'm a few weeks behind you girls anyway.............

Twinkle - thought of frost-bite on ladies bits - owch. At least I won't need to sit on bags of ice. I'll just feel like someone has tried (successfully) to cut me in half with a chain-saw.

What do they use to put you back together again after a CS these days? Years ago it used to be stiches - one long running stitch, which had to be pulled out about a week later when skin was all scabby and crusty - yes, it hurt.

The second time I had staples - yes, just the same as those in your office stapler, which had to be removed one by one - this hurt even more as it took longer to removed a dozen staples than a single running stitch.

Now, a friend told me, they use a kind of glue - so no nasty removal/aftercare needed - is that true?

JenJam · 15/09/2005 10:17

strange...we're all in synch - ..."at week 32 + 5 days you'll find it essential to get yourself booked in with the dentist" ...i've just cancelled mine actually as a) i'm not feeling well throat infection and b) i thought it might be something to look forward to when i'm on maternity leave?! instead of rushing to an 8 a.m. appointment tomorrow and being frowned at AGAIN when i'm late into work. ENTHUSIA your post cracked me up...thai dentist sounds scary enough without all the blood. I get freaked out if i get a stand in dentist (i have 'trust' issues) Can we get all this for free then? i'm such a control freak i'd rather go private when it comes to my teeth...so i can get in a strop if i don't like what they are doing, but i guess i can't make a private dentist give me services for free....can I?

Only 4 weeks to go until i can go on maternity!
isn't it exciting that we'll all have babies by christmas! i love christmas, early dark evenings...fairy lights, home baked cakes and christmas carols on the radio

I'm starving. (btw I have just hit the 12 stone mark. that's 2.5 stone more than normal. bizarrely i feel sort of proud as i haven't been 12 stone before. How bout the rest of you or would you rather not open this can of worms......
well better get on
have a nice day

goldenoldie · 15/09/2005 10:46

JenJam - I'd love to be 12 stone. I've gone from 10 - 13.8 already! But, have to say I always put loads on when pregnant and do loose it again - eventually..............

Don't know about the dentist - did that a few weeks ago. Off to hairdressers today. I might be fat, but at least I'll be glam!

twinkle1 · 15/09/2005 10:49

golden,
It varies greatley between hosp what they use to suture with.In the trust i worked in it is a long stitch under the skin that is dissolvable so no nasty scar or removal.I have also had two c/sections and await number 3 with interest as it will be in a hosp that is all new to me, as we moved from the n/east to the n/west of england last year. Some trusts do use glue on the outside (nice neat scar) with lots of sutures underneath.
who knows it will be a surprise but i don't fancy staples wILL be very strange to be on the buissness end of the table, dont mind the cutting bit its the thought of the drainpipe/needle they use to give a spinal arghhhh there is a lot to the saying ignorance is bliss

Morning girls, Bam & Kristina thanks for bringing all those lovely memories flooding back, I think I had managed to erase them completely from my mind - yuck! Do you think you've managed to gross and freak out the first timers yet or are there worse things we can tell them!!!

I can remember being lectured by the mw for having the audacity to walk up to the local shops within the first ten days and then her being really patronising when I asked her why the bleeding had increased - her reply, "well what can you expect when you go over doing things"!!!

Jenjam not even going there, If I cut off my legs I could make you a slightly slimmer twin!!! I've just worked out that I've put on just under a stone and a half which is better than I thought as I've been eating so much rubbish this time round

I've got the mw this afternoon, am prepared to be lectured about the size of my ankles - they look like balloons, not expecting her to say much else though.

I'm hoping I might be offered a growth scan as could really do with finding out what sex the baby is as Ben is fixated with the idea that we are having a girl and has told me point blank that he doesn't want a brother.
At least if I could find out now I could prepare him for a boy. He has even offered to pay £80 for his baby Eleanor and can't understand why I can't promise him a girl. Any suggestions on how to get round this one?

Right best go and see what the little darling is up to, speak to you all later Beks

Enthusia · 15/09/2005 11:11

Ok, are braxton Hicks like period pains as I am having these now and they are not friendly!

OP posts:
goldenoldie · 15/09/2005 11:12

Twinkle - know what you mean about the spinal (hope we're not scaring the newbies?).

I'm avoiding the epidural this time by having (another) GA. Anaethesist won't be pleased, but unless he/she can tie me down to the bed they won't have a lot of choice..........................

twinkle1 · 15/09/2005 11:20

enthusia, braxton hicks make bump feel tight and hard. They are not supposed to hurt but that is bollo**s they can take your breath away but should go away again soon after it started
twinkle

twinkle1 · 15/09/2005 11:22

golden i would not have a GA unless it was a dire crisis, as i spew like a fountain for days after any GA will have to grin and bear the drainpipe
twinkle

Enthusia · 15/09/2005 11:34

Hooray, they have just finished. Cor they hurt, just like period pains. Worse when I stood up, better now. Thanks

OP posts:
twinkle1 · 15/09/2005 11:41

enthusia forgot to say, dont rub bump as this can make braxton hicks worse/bring them on.Mw's sometimes rub bump in a circular motion to "rub up a contraction if needed during labour"
hope that helps

God loads to read up on this time!
haven't gotten round to it yet, but just had to share my major brain-wrong as i turned on my pc.
I panicked that the vision in one eye was really blurry, started worrying, then went to rinse it out to see if it helped and ealised i'd only put one contact lense in earlier..hehehehe
panic over...where is my brain please!?

novadandypowder · 15/09/2005 12:14

Bob, ROFL!!!

Jenjam, I go to a private dentist (also have trust issues) and sadly they are not free during pregnancy.

I feel exactly the same way as you about babies, christmas, dark evenings etc.. I love it when you can feel autumn in the air.

From wks 0-20 I put on nothing, From 20-28 it was 4kgs, from 28-32 it was another 4kgs, so total so far is 8kgs. This puts me at 11 stone/ 70kgs. However, if my appetite keeps growing, and if sainsburys will insist on displaying it's christmas chocs, then this will definitly increase!

Beksmum, why would you be lectured about your ankles? I've done everything I can for mine but they won't go down, it's getting really uncomfortable now, as are my hands.

Twinkle, I quite often rub my bump in the evenings as a comfort/bonding thing, and to moisturise it in the morning - is this a really bad thing to do?

KristinaM · 15/09/2005 12:29

BoB - its so freaky isnt it, when you start to do these weird things. I keep finding I've done stuff like come in and put the car keys in the fridge and the milk on the hall table. i think it happens more with the routine things you do every day, as you normally dont need to think about them.

Jenjam - thats so weird about us all being in synch.i was at the dentist too this week and apparently I need crowns replaced - oh what fun. of course they wont do it til after the birth. Well at least its free.

I am avioding worrying about my weight by not weighing myself.

Since BAM and I have freaked out the first time mums I see that all you elective Cs girls are trying to do the same to the rest of us. I was very upset last time at the thought of having to have a section ( baby was transverse) but my SIL presuaded me that they were fine. She has had one bad vaginal delivery, 2 elective sections and is happily heading for her 3rd in December. I'm much relieved GoldenYoungThing that they will give you a GA if you insist - suspect this would be my choice too.

Is getting a spinal the same procedure as an epidural ie does it feel the same? I have to say that I didnt find it bad gettting one at all - mind you it was done by the consultant and she was very quick. And I was well into labour so in pain anyway IYSWIM. Suspect it might be worse if you are sober. I think I woudl freak having surgery while awake, even tho I know you dont feel pain, just tugging and rumaging.

Enthusia - this pregnancy thing isn't very fair - I have never had one Bh in my life! All I knwo is that MW tell you they dont hurt and all the women I know say they do! Twinkle- oh resident expert- do you know why some women get lots & others few or none?

KristinaM · 15/09/2005 12:32

I have to confess that we havent bought a single proper baby thing. Not even a babygrow. All my shopping energy has gone into researching MPVs and double buggies. I thought the buggies were dear until I looked at cars. Have narrowed cars down to Fiat Multipla and VW Touran, probably the Fiat. Do any of you have any experience of these cars?

ChaCha · 15/09/2005 12:50

Hi,

Have no idea how much weight i've put on. Maybe i'll attempt the scales later although ignorance is definitely bliss.

Backache is on and off at all times now. Is nobody else suffering from it?
It has me in tears again today. Bath helped a little but not much.

KristinaM · 15/09/2005 13:28

Oh cahcha - your backache sounds awful. My back is sore a bit on lifting or when getting up. But I am carrying a 28lb toddler about.

Not sure if thats normal ie normal to have aches and twinges, not normal to be in tears - have you spoken to your Dr or MW? Maybe some of the others will come on later and know more

babyonboard · 15/09/2005 13:33

My goodness..things got a bit crazy in here..nearly fell off my chair laughing...hehehe

Nova-hope your swelling eases!I've been considering support tights as I'm worried about developing varicose veins, but I think the support pants for my spd are quite enough at the moment!
Enthusia- doesn't sound very nice at all! I really hate the dentist...my mum takes my little sister to one where they play cartoons into a visor video type thing as she has always been very nervous..I want to go there too but i'd feel a bit of a fool!hehehe
Golden-Can't imagine what it's like with two in there...with all of our complaints and we only have half the trouble!hehehe

Very excited as dp has an interview for an even better job tomorrow..with his current one he will have another 8 months or so training on a stupidly low salary, so fingers crossed this new one works out! It will mean we can afford to move to a nicer place, and I won't spend all my time with the baby worrying about going bankrupt.
Wish him luck ladies!
We went to tk maxx last night to get him a swish new suit..and I almost wet myself with excitement as there is an asda right next to it that I didn't know about...heheheehe..so sad!
I stocked up on the bargain pants recommended by someone here before..and bought a pile of tiny socks..so cute!(the socks ..not the pants of course..hehe)
This weather is rubbish...
what are you all up to today?

babyonboard · 15/09/2005 13:36

oh meant to say..chacha..that sounds really bad, have you gotten any advice!?hope you feel better soon!

Enthusia · 15/09/2005 13:43

Ok, think hormones have kicked in, feel like crying but nothing has really gone wrong.

Went to dentist who says I need to have 2 fillings replaced, plus two new ones put in. Have booked me in for October. She then did a super clean, which was very painful. Then came home and cat had been sitting on computer (the laptop) and buggered up the keyboard so had to restart. Now my mouth is quite sore and I am hungry but don't know whether to eat and generally feeling pretty miserable. I find it very unnerving that things can overwhelm you so easily, what would happen if I had a really bad day.

Oh Kristina have you looked at the new Honda that is like the Multipla, it is meant to be excellent!

ChaCha - hope your back feels a bit better now.

Right I'm off to have a sulk I think.
