Hi all - we've very nearly exhausted the 1,000 post limit on our previous thread so here is the new one.

Looking forward to continuing to share the ups, downs, symptoms, queries, worries and joy (fingers tightly crossed!)

petitech · 02/11/2010 21:38

Hi everyone, pleased to see so much good news on here today.
takethatlady I have got really bad back ache today but have just invested in one of those warm wrap things which you heat up in the microwave, seems to be helping a bit.
wanttobesupermum wow, I feel bad now you've said in the US you're not supposed to put on any weight in the first 12 weeks... think I've put on about 4lbs at least :s
Am promising myself to do more exercise as soon as I stop feeling so sick!
Someone on here recommended eating protein instead of carbs so I tried an omelette last night and definitely big improvement.
I also bought some liquid gaviscon which seems to stop the acid taste in mouth. At this point I'll keep trying anything which helps!
Have booked a private scan for the weekend, slightly indulgent but I'm hoping it'll give me some perspective and a bit of strength for putting up with ongoing sickness. Will be 10 weeks +/-.
Have a nice night everyone x

clench234 · 02/11/2010 21:59

Great to see more good news on scans.
V sad to hear your news mrshedgie, you have got an awful lot on your plate, hope you have good support in RL as well as on here.
Hyperemisis sounds really rough, I would second what others have said about seeing another dr for a prescription.
I have checked bio oil and my bottle says for pregnancy use 2 x a day from first trimester until after birth so relieved about that, expensive though so I'm sticking to once a day.
Thought I was in for a rough night, ds1 came home from first day back at school with diarrohea, first time either have had it since they left nappies! Luckily dh was around to sort it out and ds has gone straight to sleep (on mattress on floor close to bathroom instead of in top bunk!) so I'm hoping it wasn't a full on bug. Guessing I'd better keep him off school tomorrow though in case he's contagious. Luckily it's my day off so the three of us can watch films and deadly sixty
all day :-)
Anyway, take care all, good luck with scans. I'm off to midwife for first a ppt this Thursday to discuss testing. Will be nearly9 weeks, then booking in the week after hopefully. Still no wiser about scans but am feeling confident that the continued nausea must mean something is going on in there!

motherofsnortpigs · 02/11/2010 22:13

Sneakily on my phone - should be asleep. ↲3kids so glad there is someone as crazy as me. Our first 2 are 18 months apart (4 and 3) and my baby is a big grown up man at 9 months. Yes we know we're in for a hard first year, but babies are better in pairs don't you think?↲happy thoughts to everyone. Night night

motherofsnortpigs · 02/11/2010 22:14

o it appears my phone adds its own bits to my messages...

mrshedgie · 03/11/2010 00:59

HI ladies,

Barbielovesken

so nice to see so many still here, and so many more! I can't believe how close I'm getting to 10 weeks! Will be 10 weeks on Friday...got my booking appointment next Tuesday, providing I'm not ill again...

It's tough with the gallstones because the pain is truly awful, and they won't take my gallbladder out unless I keep getting severe attacks. I can't eat anything I really enjoy because I have to virtually eliminate fat from my diet; no choc, no mayo, so many things. I'm going to have to figure out some nice stew recipes with chicken, because soup and dry chicken and veg is getting boring...

x

wonnaywombat · 03/11/2010 04:30

Morning all! Great news for all of those with positive heart beating scans - I'm really pleased for you.

Welcome and congrats to all the newbies too - what a lovely bunch we've got here.

mrshedgie - so sorry to hear re: recurrent gallstone problems and your nan. re: eliminating fat from your diet, I can highly recommend the BBC Good Food mini book 101 Low Fat Feasts - see this on Amazon or try their website and search for recipes using their search filter for low fat - here it is

Apologies to those of you still not being able to stomach the thought of food!

I should be 8+4 today and have another scan on Sunday which again I have mixed feelings about but keeping everything tightly crossed. Good luck to those with scans over the next couple of days.

broughthimroundtotheidea · 03/11/2010 07:00

Hi Ladies, well update on the "brown wipe", I havn't had any more thankfully, but have had pains which are at the top of my tummy?? could this be stretching pain? nothing in the lower abdomen. Boobs have stopped hurting and have the wrinkles which had filled in are now back. Still no MS.
Called the MW unit, as that is what the doctors told me to do, and they told me to call the GP! thanks for your assistance!!!
Roll on sunday for my booking in (which at the moment I am going to have to take DD11 and DS9 to, that could involve some stectacular lies as I havn't told them!)

takethatlady · 03/11/2010 07:36

Thanks knackered76, petitech and barbielovesken. Now it's my turn to dish out advice to broughthimround. This is my first time to do this so I'm a symptom-spotting freak (6+3 and no ms at all apart from a couple of very mild waves of nausea - so mild they might have been imagined). But one thing I can definitely say is that my boobs are sore one hour, and back to normal the next, then sore for a few days, then one day suddenly nothing. Then just when I totally freak about it, the pain comes back with a vengeance.

So try not to worry. One brown wipe probably means nothing - look at cep's good news :)

mrshedgie sorry you're having such a tough time.

Double goodvibrations goodvibrations - both for your healthy scan and your triumph over that bitchy boss. I hope if she ever gets pregnant she's sick all the way through Grin

Woah there motherofsnortpigs and 3kidsandbump I am in awe of you. You are brave! I would love to do it your way, though I'm guessing with work etc it won't be possible. My DH's mum had him, then twins 2.5 years later, then another 2 years after that, so she had 4 under 5. And now they're brilliant friends and marrying my DH I got three sisters too. I'd love to make a family like that.

As it is they're going to have to be 3 years apart so we can afford the childcare! Oh well, pros and cons to both ...

Just desperate for this one to work out. Have been trying to get my booking in appt for nearly a week now and the midwife has never ever picked up the phone. Biscuit

3kidsandbump · 03/11/2010 08:03

motherofsp - so glad there is somebody else who understands having the babies close together!! I love watching our older 2 as they get on so well, and felt like DS2 was going to be on his own a bit, as he is quite a bit younger than the others!! I know that people are going to think we are nuts though when we do tell about the pregnancy. Oh well...!

broughthimround it is worrying isn't it. Very stupidly googled light bleeding and have now really scared myself! Have the booking apointment with midwife on Fri, so will mention it then and see what they say. Really won't feel completely happy till I have seen a scan with a healthy bean in it!

Mrshedie you have my sympathies - my mum had gall stones and she was in terrible pain with it. I can't imagine how bad it must be to have that whilst you are pregnant.

milliemuffin · 03/11/2010 09:06

Is anyone else holding off making the first appointment at the surgery? Or did any of you wait until you were a certain amount of weeks? I'll be 6 weeks on friday and I'm just wondering when to make my first appointment.

Also, is anyone not quite convinced that they actually are pregnant yet? I was the same with my other pregnancies and until I see the scan it just doesn't feel real.

8rubberduckies · 03/11/2010 10:19

Morning MillieMuffin I was straight down to the surgery to see my GP the day after I found out! In my skewed world of non-logic, I thought the sooner I'm in the system, the more pregnant I am! Confused

It's worked in a way, as I am only coming up to 7 weeks and have my booking appt with midwife tomorrow, and I have been so panicky about mc that it is the only thing keeping me sane at the moment! I am with you on not quite feeling like it's real til I see that bubba bobbing around on my first scan, even though I'm suffering with ms quite badly now. I wasn't like this with my other pg though, it felt very real right from the start, but I had a lot of problems in the 1st trimester, so maybe that's why I feel so worried this time around.

No more brown discharge since yesterday, and pains seem to have calmed down this morning, so fingers crossed. Broughthimround I'm glad you haven't had any more blood either. I would say that pains higher up are not going to be anything to do with mcing, but I am no expert... sounds like stretching pains to me?

NurseSunshine · 03/11/2010 10:25

MrsHedgie I'm 10 weeks on friday and my booking in app is on tuesday too! Grin

Barbie are you seriously saying that your GP told you to quit anti deppressants cold turkey??? And would rather you get to the stage of dehydration and hospitalisation rather than take anti emetics for a couple of days? Both of those things are irresponsible and dangerous. Please please find another doctor. Surely there are several at your practice?

Have you already come off the ADs? I hope you were OK. I cannot believe any medical doctor would tell you to come off ADs cold turkey. The side effects of doing that can be catastrophic. If you were on an SSRI there is NO risk of foetal abnormalities - which is why I am comfortably using the first trimester to SLOWLY wean myself off mine. I'd obviously rather I'd known and come off them first but that wasn't an option, it's better for my baby right now that I am not suicidal/homocidal (not saying you are of course :) but that's what can happen).

And as for saying he wants you to be hospitalised, prevention is always better than cure. How long will it take you to realise you're dehydrated?! Dehydration is EXTREMELY dangerous, both to you and your baby. I am flabbergasted! Is this doctor an older man? He's an idiot! Please find another doctor, don't see this guy again. I honestly can't express how shocked and disgusted I am!! This man could have/has potentially put you in danger.

crumbletastic · 03/11/2010 10:32

Welcome to all the new ladies and so sorry to hear of bad news from Beesok and Janice

8rubberduckies depending on what area you live you might have to make your own scan appointment after your booking appointment. This is what I had to do this week as midwife will give you the info regarding the 2 scans (just a dating scan or additional nuchal fold test for downs syndrome) and you have 48 hours to decide and book your scan.

Any other people with brown blood, I also had this last weekend and had an early scan which showed heartbeat and no reason for bleed. I had scared myself witless before this though with googling and lack of stymptoms so fingers crossed everything is the same for you.

I know I shouldnt be but a teeny bit jealous of those with morning sickness who can't eat much. I am insatiable, I have eaten so much chocolate this week which I got as wedding gifts, and am eating every carb I see. Putting on so much weight already and I know none of it is babyweight, so different to my last pregnancy when I didn't even look pregnant til around 7 months

NurseSunshine · 03/11/2010 10:34

By the way congratulations to everyone who's had a positive scan, so pleased for all of you, makes me even more excited for mine :)

Milliemuffin If your surgery is anything like mine I'd get yourself down there asap, I was messed around for ages, people telling me to do one thing then another then I was lost in the system blagh blagh blagh! Thankfully it's sorted out now. I don't feel as though I'm really pg either! As though 4 tests are all wrong and the ms and my boobs inflating is just psychosomatic!

Wantstobesuper, I think 30lbs is probably a good upper limit, hopefully one I can stick to! You sound like you're eating really healthily and the excercise is great too. I just don't know if I could face most of those foods on your list! Though a banana beside your bed is a good idea, I'm going to try that. At the moment I'm just trying to keep food in my stomach and trying not to worry too much that all I can manage is cereal Sad

Mummynumber2 · 03/11/2010 10:46

Morning everyone! So many posts since this time yesterday!

Congratulations on your scans goodvibrations, knackered, Sarah, cameli and cep! It's soooooo good to have so much good news today.

Hello 3kidsandabump and shocked

Barbielovesken Your Dr is obviously crazy! Not giving you anti-emetics and telling you that you may end up in hospital on a drip if you don't take them. The first thing they'll do in hospital (apart from give you the drip!) is give you anti-emetics! I really would ask to see a different dr if I were you. I'm so glad you're managing to keep something down. I think it's a good idea to just stick to things that you know you can keep down, I've decided that at the moment any callories and hydration is more important than good nutrition.

mrshedge I'm so sorry to hear you're going through so much at the moment. It's really the worst time for something like this. Look after yourself.

takethatlady it must be so frustrating not to be able to get hold of your midwife!Maybe you should ring your GP surgery at some point and ask them what you should do.

For those who are worried about lack of sickness I really think everyones symptoms are so different in each pregnancy. For example, I've got bad sickness but that's about the only symptom, my breasts don't really hurt, I'm not having strange or vivid dreams, headaches etc. I think some people just have one or two out of a load of possible symptoms.

takethatlady · 03/11/2010 10:50

barbie I am Shock at your doctor. I have heard so many bad stories about doctors since going on MN - that one is right up there Shock

Hope you get it sorted soon.

I just phoned the hospital and booked my dating scan for 19th November at 8.15am. I haven't spoken to the midwife yet so it's probably a bit naughty I've booked it, but my LMP was 18th August (I have 8 week cycles on average) so I'm well overdue for getting it sorted!

Bloody midwife Angry. What's the point of having a phone if you don't answer it and don't allow people to leave messages?

Sorry for all those feeling sick :)

yellowtomato · 03/11/2010 11:07

Morning all

milliemuffin I would also agree with everyone who has encouraged you to get to the GP asap. Every area seems to be different but it seems to take a minimum of 2 weeks and sometimes significantly more to get any appts through so the sooner you start the better.

I know what you mean about it not feeling real. I still don't and I've seen the heartbeat on the scan! I am 7+4 today and have sore boobs but that is still my only symptom (along with wind! Blush)

takethatlady good for you taking the initiative and booking your appt, what else are you supposed to do if they don't answer the phone?

So happy to hear all the positive scan results yesterday, so exciting that we are all making a little bit of progress.

So sorry for everyone who is still feeling sick, I really hope it passes for you soon.
And barbie it does seem like it might be an idea to get another opinion...I can't remember if you said you'd been this sick with previous pregnancies, have you taken anti-emetics before?

hello to everyone else, how you all doing today?

Wobblewatcher · 03/11/2010 12:19

Hi everyone, this is a quick visit for me as we have no broadband at the moment so just popping in to say hi. Have read back and I'm pleased about the good news regarding scans for people.

Sorry some have worries about bleeding or discharge. So worrying despite knowing it is mostly common and fine.

I'm feeling very sick in the mornings and evenings although will try some of the advice someone posted on here.

Barbie-I second the advice re ADs. It is not good practice to cut them dead. I work in psychiatry.

Love to all xx xx

sasamaxx · 03/11/2010 13:02

GV - great news about your scan! OMG about rare steak - that's fantastic news!!!

Welcome 3kidsandbump

Barbie - thanks for good wishes - seem to be having quite a good day so far today - hope you're not too bad.

blimeythatwasquick · 03/11/2010 13:42

Blimey this is a busy thread. I'm just hoping
we are well spread out around the country or it'll be rush hour at all the maternity units.

Soooooo happy about the rare steak - I saw it on another discussion thread and couldn't believe my eyes. I know what I'll be having for dinner Saturday night :o

Crumbletastic - we're in the same boat, I cannot stop eating. I really feel for those of you who feel sick, you have all my sympathy.

As for the wierd dreams, I have just started with these ones, last time was very strange - I woke up and told DH about it straightaway but already I can't remember what it was about Confused.

Any other first-timers like me slightly obsessed with the childbirth element of this and wondering whether it really would be possible to be knocked out for the whole event? :)

Substandard · 03/11/2010 13:53

Hi everyone! Room for one more?

I am 5+5 so am due right at the end of June. No symptoms really other than no period and a little insomnia. I have had sore boobs on a couple of occasions but could have imagined it.

No ms yet but threw up vigorously from the positive test until well past 20 weeks last time, have a ds who is 2.6 already. So I am a little nervous I am not really pregnant, iykwim!
