Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

Hello,
Just spent ages catching up on all the news as the internet at home has been out of action. Fantastic to hear about all the lovely scans.
I had my scan last week and it's a little boy (we decided to find out in the end!). Everything looks normal so it will probably be the last time we see him until April. Got the scan picture with him sucking his thumb up on the mantlepiece at home.

Good luck to everyone having scans in the next week or so.

JustKeepSparkling · 25/11/2010 17:15

Had my scan today, all well :)

But this one is breech, as was DS2. Usual comments at the time; 'lots of time' 'lots of babies are breech now, don't worry' etc.
Thing is he never turned, all my MW appts said he was head down and then we only found out he was breech mid-labour when the MW was doing a VE to see how dilated i was before i got in the pool, so i ended up with an emc-s.

Everyone already saying the same things but i won't be able to believe a MW who says its head-down until i see it on an extra scan that i've already demanded for roughly 35 weeks.

Otherwise all good, and we didn't find out the sex :)

Petalouda · 25/11/2010 17:59

Hey! Congrats on your scan JustKeepSparkling, hope this baby is more cooperative!

Thanks frakkin, we've done all the reading and research and know the deal with second hand kit. We wanted a pushchair which came with the carry cot, and all which had the cot had the car seat too (but not vice versa, weirdly). So yep, we've got a spare!

Off out to pick it up soon, hope the snow doesn't catch us!

SaorAlba · 25/11/2010 20:18

Just realised I can't go sledging. I'm gutted. :(

MuffinMouse · 25/11/2010 22:24

I've also got the Gap maternity jeans which are very comfy. (Boot cut). But I do have to keep hoiking them up. I'm hoping I will just grow into them and then they'll stay up!

Anyone experienced their bellies getting tight with exercise? I did a Body Groove class this eve. The teacher is great and I can adapt everything, and it's not at all intense. But I was shocked by how little I appear to be doing (despite giving it my all) and also that I had this tightening, plus my muscles around my sides and toward my back were really feeling uncomfortable. I do tend to carry very 'forward' and I have enormous knockers at the mo, so I am very front heavy. But even so...

Anyone else finding their normal exercise troublesome??

Petalouda · 25/11/2010 22:58

exer-what-now?

frakkinup · 26/11/2010 06:05

Not troublesome, no. But I do find the balance track in BodyBalance challenging and the mini bump gets in the way in the twists and abs work. What's Body Groove?

I'm going to see if I can pick up combat again as I've been told to stop running and I need cardio. I've gained a whole kilo since Tuesday. That can't be normal!

caramellokoalalover · 26/11/2010 08:45

frakkin could that kilo be water? I'm putting all my weight gain down to water Wink. After putting on loads in the first trimester I think I've finally stalled a little which is just as well!

I'm not doing any strenuous exercise but as soon as I move a little faster than normal I'm so out of breathe it's embaressing. And after seemingly doing only a little toe wiggling in an antenatal yoga class, the next day I've got muscle ache as if I've been doing circuits.

frakkinup · 26/11/2010 10:20

Well, it might be. I also gained 400g over the space of 2 hours this morning and didn't eat anything in between.

Up to now my weight gain in the second trimester seems to have been in the region of 0,5 kilos/week which is recommended. But that implies I'm going to put on 10 more kilos before the end!!!!

MrsWajs · 26/11/2010 10:54

Hmm weight gain . . . I've put on 4.4kg since finding out I was preggers - anyone know if that's good bad or indifferent, seem to have stalled a bit now as have been the same for the past 2 weeks!?

Muffin I have had crampy type pains in my bump (kind of low down coming from the sides in towards the middle) but I wasn't doing the same kind of exercise as you Blush if you follow!

I've been seeing a physio due to back pain I was having earlier on and she said it was perfectly normal as all your ligaments etc are moving and stretching to accomodate the bump. I also got exercises to do to strengthen my core muscles and I found that those caused me to be a little 'tight' afterwards.

MrsWajs · 26/11/2010 10:56

Oh yeah re: the weight gain question - I am 18+5!

frakkinup · 26/11/2010 10:58

Mrs Wajs - I've gained around 5kg and am nearly 20 weeks so I'd say you're on track. I'd put on 4kg when I had my appointment on Tuesday and they're paranoid about weight here but said I was fine, so if 4kg is fine at 19weeks then I can't imagine them quibbling over an extra 400g. I reserve that right for me!

frakkinup · 26/11/2010 10:59

Ooooh and I was the same weight pretty much from 17-19 weeks as well. Which is why I was slightly Shock at the kilo which appeared virtually overnight.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/11/2010 12:59

I find the best way to not worry about weight gain is to not weigh myself Blush

I know where you're coming from MrsW, with ds2 the braxtons during an orgasm were very strong and almost painful. Didn't stop us though!! Grin

I have found that most maternity trousers are a bit shit and fall down, that's not very helpful though is it? Grin

My 20 week scan seems ageees away, but it it lovely to hear about others on here.

I felt a proper good kick today. I've felt fluttering before, but today I think the baby was doing the wall of death inside of me as I felt it jab my pelvis then a swift kick in my side.

I also had my first bump knocking moment today. Ouuccchhhh. Luckily it was at the top so nowhere near the baby, but blimey I forgot how sore it can feel.

Thaney · 26/11/2010 14:08

I was asked my weight at my first midwife appointment but they haven't actually weighed me at all. I don't have scales at home so I have no idea at all what I have put on.

LisMcA · 26/11/2010 17:58

I have lost 4 kilos Hmm since my booking appointment, but I had it to loose plus extra! I feel like i've put on about 8 stone though. Climing the stairs is a big effort these days.

On a different note, no snow here :(. Feeling a little left out as parents in Aberdeen are snowed in and my sisters nephew has been building snowmen in their gardenEnvy

of course as soon as it snows here I'll be moaning as we need to drive to get anywhere :o

Ooh and think I have a proper craving! Pickled Onion Monster Munch yum yum yum! Have cleared the vending machine at work this week! Anyone else craving anything?

MrsWajs · 26/11/2010 18:35

Oooh LisMcA we have snow and set to get more tonight - lots more!! I'm about half an hour south of aberdeen, so figures!

Not sure I'll be loving the idea quite so much at 6 tomorrow morning when I get up for work tho!! :)

MuffinMouse · 26/11/2010 20:01

I went to the consultants clinic this am and saw an exceptionally irritating dr. He was totally unreassuring and gave me more to worry about than I went in with!! Angry

He opened by telling me that I would be having a third cs and ended the generally infuriating appointment with all the dangers that can happen in surgery. I do not want to see him again!

Interestingly when I asked the Receptionist whether the OB in clinic will be the one who performs the surgery, she said no, and that I could always ask to see someone else when I next come in. That made me smile, as I hadn't been at all leading.

The midwife there did tell me that the reason for my bump tightening during exercise is "it's your third pregnancy and your body is just not what it used to be".

I am soo looking forward to the next appointment! Blush

MrsWajs · 27/11/2010 08:56

Hmm wonder what my excuse is then since this is my first!?? Maybe my body just wasn't up to much in the first place!?!?!?

LisMcA · 27/11/2010 12:12

Snow Update

Livingston has snow!! Saw a Tesco van enter my street sideways this morning, so that made my mind up about going shopping today or not :o

Having a duvet day now! And will do Christmas shopping online instead!

Mrs Wajs Hope you got to work ok this morning, mum said they got more snow overnight.

kitstwins · 27/11/2010 19:05

Exercise-wise I'm finding it all a bit odd at the moment. I'm still running (just) but my last one wasn't very good as my bump felt quite tight and sore at the sides, which I put down to ligament pain. I'm off for a gentle one tomorrow and if it's equally crap then I'll probably stop for good and stick with walking and my usual pilates. I've no idea what weight I've put on as I REFUSE to weigh myself owing to neurotic weight behaviour in my teens. Instead of torturing myself with ever-increasing scale increments I instead go with how I look in the mirror which at the moment is, admittedly, quite strange. My bump is small - much smaller than this stage with the twins. I ran the marathon in April and did all this advanced pilates classes which I think made my abs really strong so they haven't given up the fight yet. It sounds good in theory but it just means I've looked like I've let myself go a bit for ages. I really look quite crap. Having said all of that I do feel really energetic now and I'm in the happy stage. Thank God.

Clothes are a disaster area. I've got some Isabella Oliver stuff, which my bump isn't quite big enough for, and also some customised J Brands (with the elastic inserts in the side as I can't bear the big bump bands in front). Plus some Gap vests (their jeans look awful on me, which is really annoying). Beyond that I'm struggling. As for bras, I'm STILL growing. Currently inhabiting a 32F and they're looking a bit tight. Christ!

Chose my pram yesterday. After the double mountain buggy last time (great pram - dream to push but no frills and decidedly unexciting) I'd promised myself any pram I wanted. So I looked at the Bugaboo and the single Mountain Buggy and have gone for...the single mountain buggy. AND in sodding black again as before!! All that choice and I still end up with effectively the same pram.

No snow in London but it's freezing cold. My heating is on full blast!

BeetleBaby · 27/11/2010 21:07

Hello everyone!

I've not been around much so have just had a nice long catch up with all the news!

Reading about everyone's scans is great, we had ours last Saturday and it was lovely, could see the baby yawning away (I'd obviously kept the poor thing awake all night with my coughing and sneezing). It was a close run thing but we didn't find out the sex, so it'll be April till we find out now!

We're 90%ish settled on a pram. Looks like we're going for the Mamas & Papas Sola in 'Grass' (which is black with a bit of green to mere mortal non pushchair designers like us! Wink) Lots of the ones I really loved (like the Silver Cross) were just too big for what we'll need and common sense (ie DH) had to come into play!

To add to the maternity wear debates I currently have 5 cheap Primani long sleeve stretchy t-shirts which are fab, and 1 pair Mamas & Papas cords, a pair of Mothercare dungarees, 2 pair Next maternity jeans, one underbump and one over bump. I've managed to pick up the jeans and cords when in sales (the dungarees I paid full price for because I really, really wanted dungarees Grin). I have to hitch them all up except for the dungarees, but at least with the Next jeans I know that an 8 short will at least be the right leg length which can be a PITA to find at the best of times!

I haven't been weighed since my 12wk scan and without looking at my notes I haven't a clue what I weighed. I figure as long as we feel healthy and midwives aren't concerned we shouldn't worry. There is enough other stuff for us all to concentrate on right now!

After that, once again, epic post I'll be off!

(oh, and no snow in Oxford either Sad I've got my wellies ready and everything...I'll just have to start thinking about putting up the Christmas tree to cheer myself up! Grin )

MrsWajs · 28/11/2010 15:09

My snow update

About a foot fell overnight and wasn't able to drive to work this afternoon so had to get a lift as there were no buses running either!!

Here now but worried about a) getting home tonight and b) getting back in again at 6am tomorrow morning!!

kitstwins · 28/11/2010 15:13

Went for my run, which was a disaster. Managed a slow mile before I got a horrible feeling in my tummy and shooting pains. Walked home (took me ages) and now feel a bit odd. The baby is moving around/jumping on my bladder but it's all rather tight and heavy and weird. I think that's the end of my running. I'm currently lying on my bed waiting for it all to pass. Slightly kicking myself now - all this for a sodding 2 mile run. Anyone had this and it passed?
Thoughts? Husband out with the girls (museum visit to give me a break) so maybe I should just keep lying down.
Feels achy at the bottom of my bump but that could be the baby moving.

JustKeepSparkling · 28/11/2010 15:23

I would say stay lying down but with bump supported, with pillows etc.
I get bad pains from moving too quickly etc (not running though, i'm no runner!) and it helps to find a comfy position and stay still.

No snow here, yet.
