Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

Congrats on all the wriggly boys! I wonder if it's a boy thing all this squirming? DS was difficult to scan both times but this bubba slept through the 12 week scan, the sonographer had to keep poking the little bean to try and get them to roll over. Won't find out if there's anything in that theory for me until April though!

If listening to women's hour makes you old then maybe I should update my stats with a mental age of 50 Grin.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

kitstwins · 19/11/2010 16:40

Gosh all these boys - how exciting.

I had my 20 week scan today and didn't find out. Husband resolute about not knowing and I'm happy not to also.

The great news is that the scan located my placenta. It's low lying and anterior, which normally would be considered bad news but I can deal with that. What's really great is that it's not on the site of the previous c section scar (which would mean accreta and all manner of nasty interventions/heavy caesarean nightmares) - about a centimetre above which means IT'S FREE TO MOVE UP. As the uterus expands there's a really high chance that my placenta will be pulled up with it and 'move away' from the cervix. I'm just thrilled as it means I've got a chance of a normal, bleed-free pregnancy and, doubly thrilling, a vaginal delivery. After my hideous, hideous caesarean last time I was really hoping to serve one second time around.

So a happy day for me today. I saw my consultant afterwards and I don't think he's ever seen someone so thrilled whose been told they have a low lying placenta. Just goes to show it's all relative.

I feel as if a huge weight has been lifted off me. Before now I was just constantly frightened of what I'd find out today and the potential trauma that bad news would entail. I'm actually excited about things now.

Best of all, the baby is perfect - no anomolies discovered.

kittycatcat · 19/11/2010 16:48

Excellent news kitstwins

AprilMeadow · 19/11/2010 16:55

Great news Kitstwins, so pleased that everything is going well

JustKeepSparkling · 19/11/2010 18:03

That is good news Kitstwins :)

I had a low-ish placenta with DS1, had to go back for a late scan to check it had moved and it had, they said they nearly always move, so good luck!

Not finding out here, DH is keen but i'm not so we won't Grin
Scan next Thurs, starting to get excited & nervous now.

Lots of people commenting on how big my bump is already, anyone else on subsequent DC with a big bump already?

Jaylar · 19/11/2010 20:24

JoEW I've been listening to Womans Hour since I was 24 and anyway at 36 I am fairly ancient going by the ages listed on the stats thread.

Luckily I have plenty of friends the same age as me who are only now getting round to number one child so don't feel like an old mum at all. Though the body is certainly much creakier this time around. DP turns 44 on my due date so I'm a babe in arms compared to that old knacker. Wink

MuffinMouse · 19/11/2010 20:31

Good news Kitstwins. Didn't know about that. Fortunately seeing ObGyn next week and will ask. (Third c section!)

Too right JoEw. Where is the 2nd trimester energy surge? I am kn***ed. Is it my age? Re the old mum thing - my NT fold/scan was great but my bloods and age made it scary for a week, until I had it redone. All good now. I thought I saw someone aged 41 on the stats but when I looked again she'd gone... it must have been pg brain again!

Justkeepsparkling this is dc3 and I must have rubbish stomach muscles because I look enormous. But there is a lot of fat covering my bump, if I'm honest. I met a friend today who is 9 days pg ahead and we're not that different. But then we are both members of the choc and cake eaters anon.

Am I repeating myself with all this? My memory is def affected with all my hormones...Or is it old age hahaha

Dare I ask how other people's weight gain is going? I think I am heavier now than with the other two pg. I'll tell if others will Blush

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/11/2010 20:51

Hurrah for a low lying placenta kit Smile

JKS - depending on what sort of top I'm wearing depends on what size I think my bump is. In loose tops I look HUGE, but not so big in a fitting top. I always think people with subsequent pregnancies always look bigger early on, but it all seems to even out towards the end

I don't do weighing muffin, I can't change owt, so I'll worry about it once the pregnancy is over. I'm still in my pre-preg jeans (just), but then I did lose a stone before ttc.

We're going to find out the sex at our 20 week scan - as long as the baby cooperates. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's going to be a girl, which I'm actually very nervous about Boys are so simple. They eat, they need to run around, they have boundless energy, but they're not emotional creatures. Of course if it is a girl I'll be going on a mental pink shopping spree, so it's a win win!!!

Thanks for the tips Cycle

I did have the coffee but it was only a small instant as that's all you'll get at toddler group. I then had a mad rush to get DS home early, start on his lunch and then hand him over to the In Laws so I could get to the scan for 12.

They clinic was running 40mins late so don't know if it was the caffeine or if baby was just in a more co-operative mood today. I drank some cold water whilst waiting too.
Was due on duty at work for 1pm. Arrived just in time and then begged nicely for time to eat my hastily thrown together sandwich. They kindly obliged so I had a nice sitdown in the staff room and showed everyone my "waving baby pic" Smile
I didn't ask the sex, am I'm going to wait for the surprise this time around.

Glad you had good news at your scan Kits

Justkeep I thought my bump was getting obvious, sticks out a couple of inches more than my chest, I happily fit into the next size up trousers and have been wearing the maternity tops from last time round.

But... I've chatted to 3 different people today and mentioned I'd had my 20 wk scan, they all said they hadn't realised I was pregnant.

Great - so apparently I always look like a pregnant heifer Biscuit

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/11/2010 21:28

Oh, look at this new emoticon Bear

I'm guessing it's Pudsey?????

frakkinup · 20/11/2010 08:09

Good news kits!

No energy surge here either so it's probably not age related. I'm only 24 and feel constantly cream crackered. And angry.

Could have bloody killed DH yesterday. he went and arranged lunch with a friend (likely to see her of course) then invited people over for 5pm. We have no food, so need to fit in shopping for nibbley bits, the house is a tip cos I've had a horrendous teaching/invigilation load this week and therefore needs cleaning to Stepford wife standard. I have 140 exam papers to mark, 200 students to grade and moderate across groups and an article to pull to pieces by Thursday, none of which will get done because during work hours next week because being the youngest member of dept with the least work I've volunteered myself for extra invigilating.

I wanted a break...

frakkinup · 20/11/2010 08:21

Lovely to see her even!

MuffinMouse · 20/11/2010 08:49

Men can be such idiots sometimes. Mine would have done exactly the same!!

Daisy17 · 20/11/2010 08:57

Frakkin - may I suggest that you send HIM out to get the nibbles and up the stairs with the hoover while you get on with all your work?!?! Wink Them that invite, organise, that's what I reckon..... Sorry for unwanted advice, am feeling very grumpy myself this morning as just cannot get enough sleep at the moment - wake up in the middle of the night and am immediately awake, and though nothing bad is going on, I'm worrying and then fall asleep to really weird dreams. Then bang, awake again at 7, even on a Saturday, and lie there listening to DP happily snoring away, while I shift around on aching hips, and sneeze!! for some inexplicable reasong, until I have to get up and come downstairs and eat something. And yet I'm still SOOOOO tired. :>(

God, rant over, sorry everyone!! Thankfully I have a lovely weekend lined up, as my best friend is coming to stay for the first time in years (she lives miles away and has four children, yes, four) - she's leaving them all at home with hubby so we can have an uninterrupted girly time and we're looking forward to talking baby for hours - this is my first, so she is very excited I'm finally going to be able to share this side of life with her. :>) Hurrah for friends!! :>)

MuffinMouse · 20/11/2010 09:11

I second wot Daisy said. Get him to get it sorted!! (Mind you, if he is anything like my DH it will need to be spelled out as he wouldn't see the problem otherwise!)

Daisy I'm with you on the waking and needing to get up thing. It was 4am four three months, now a least it's moved to 5am. Even when I get 7 hours I'm still tired!!!

Petalouda · 21/11/2010 10:04

Morning all! Hope everyone's having a good weekend, and the weather isn't as hibernation-inducing as it is here in devon!

Well, I've had an interesting experience this morning - I think I've had some braxton-hicks. I'm not overly worried at this point, the little dude has hardly sat still since friday, and they weren't painful. But this morning, lying in bed, I felt my uterus go rock solid for a minute or two, 3 times. Now that I'm up and about, it seems to have stopped.

I looked through the huge range of pregnancy gubbins we've got, and 1 iPhone app and 1 book both mentioned that braxton-hicks contractions can start from 23 weeks (i.e. next week). So I suppose that means its ok then!

How bizarre! Shock

kitstwins · 21/11/2010 13:04

Petalouda - I had them today (nearly 21 weeks) when I went for my run. Very odd. Had them early with the girls too but that was twins so I guess it was normal.

They always freak me out slightly. I know it's normal and 'good' in that its the uterus toning up for labour, etc. What iphone app do you have? Am bored of all my pregnancy books and looking for diversion!

Petalouda · 21/11/2010 13:41

We've got 3 iPhone apps! (and it's not even my iPhone!)

They are: iPregnancy - very nice, lots of pics & dad info, What to expect.com - VERY american, but has a daily info section which is nice, and the most recent one is BabyBump - which is really easy to use and has lots of features.

All were free to download, although we paid about £2 to have the upgraded version of BabyBump, so we can use the kick counter and (when the time comes) the contraction timer, etc.

Just been out doing some gardening, and no recurrence of the rock hard BH belly!

hippy3 · 21/11/2010 16:15

Hi Ladies...its been a while. My trip to wales was so relaxing and just what the doctor ordered. I was spoilt rotten.

Am 17 weeks today, and all of a sudden have POPPED. I look pregnant and am LOVING it.

Seems im not destined to have a stress free pregnancy. the smaller twin has now caught up. But now one has less amniotic fluid but I have some special thing abbreviated to AAA {that some people have with twins..apparently its quite rare!}dont ask me what this is, but it means I am less likley to develop TTS {which is not a good thing to have with twins} so thats something positive! Have to go back in for another scan on wednesday [am spending one day a a week in the hospital at the moment!}

Also have disovered its identical twin boys !! When they told us I wasnt surprised as I had a feeling from the word go. Am delighted as Im one of three girls.

Am going to catch up on this thread now..... good to be back. {grin]

LisMcA · 21/11/2010 16:21

Thought I'd share my newly aquired knowledge! Posted on the sling thread for some help on what to get and some kind hearted soul linked this website for me.

I looks really informative so thought some of you first timers on here would find it useful too :o

kittycatcat · 22/11/2010 08:16

Congrats on your twin boys Hippy. Glad you had a lovely time in Wales. Hope the scan goes well Wednesday.

Thanks for the link lisMca

I had the worst night sleep since i fell pregnant. Surprisingly i feel ok tho, all prep i guess.

caramellokoalalover · 22/11/2010 08:48

Wow Hippy, congrats on your blue news, and great to hear you're at less risk of developing TTTS. Good luck with the scan this week.

kittycatcat my sleep suddenly changed from being really rubbish to can't get enough over the weekend. I feel like I'm walking through glue for an hour or so after waking, even though I've had 9hrs or so. What is with that?!

kitstwins · 22/11/2010 10:43

Hippy congrats on the two boys - how exciting. And good that your risk of TTS is low - that's really encouraging.

Kittycatcat I'm finding sleep a disaster at the moment. Girls have viral coughs AND chicken pox so I've been up four or five times a night dealing with couging fits and now itchy skin. Plus I can't get comfortable on my sodding maternity pillows. I'm considering it excellent practise for April though and, amazingly, I don't feel too shocking.

kittycatcat · 22/11/2010 12:11

Oh no Kitstwins your poor DD's :( hope they get better soon and you get some sleep.

Osch · 22/11/2010 12:56

Afternoon ladies,

Thought i'd check in as i haven't been on for aaaages! We had our 20 week scan, and i will be adding myself to team pink! We are having a little girl! But unfortunately my placenta is completely covering my cervix so i have an appt tomorrow with consultant to discuss this and the rest of my pregnancy...

Sorry for not name checking, it's been such a long time since i have been on so much has happened with everyone! Congrats to everyone who has had their scans! I hope everyone is well!!
