mummyw- u can have 2 the joys of virtual cake it never runs out :)

mslucy · 24/11/2010 20:27

MummyW
40 is great - don't knock it until you've tried it.
Cake sounds good. nom nom. DH has gone to the corner shop to buy booze and hopefully will be returning with a small chocolate offering for yours truly.

zinnia · 24/11/2010 21:05

I'm a big believer in 'if it ain't broke..' when it comes to hospitals mslucy - glad the Whit has served you well, sounds like they're pretty assiduous when it comes to letting you know about things, so sure you've got nothing to worry about.

Thanks everyone for the sympathy re my waterworks issues! Am on bucketloads of antibiotics (which isn't ideal, but needs must...) and counting down the hours till hospital appointment on Friday morning.

In the meantime dh is cooking supper and I'm doing next week's supermarket order whilst watching Nigel Slater. This could be some kind of North London foodie Nirvana :)

mslucy · 24/11/2010 21:12

DH just bought minty matchmakers - the sort of thing you'd serve after a dinner party in the 70s.

I have made him hide the box as they are very moreish.

zinnia · 24/11/2010 21:16

ooh I used to love matchmakers! what an inspired choice on your dh's part..

zinnia · 24/11/2010 21:19

actually having said that I have some dark chocolate Tunnock's teacakes in the kitchen, if we're talking retro chocolatey things

Loopy much much sympathy! Chin up - it WILL get better, and when it does, all the negativity will drop away. Maybe you could get a cleaner for a few weeks?

gingerwench · 25/11/2010 10:30

Hi all

Thanks cowboylover and jbells I managed to hold down some food yesterady and so far so good today so perhaps I've turned a corner! Had my 16 wk mw appointment and heard the heartbeat. All other results fine.

Hope your bp sorts itself out cowboylover.

zinnia - blocked urethra ooooh sounds painful. hope it gets unblocked soon.

I'm only feeling occasional movements and generally when I'm bending over and probably squishing the little one!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 25/11/2010 13:00

I am so envious of those feeling movements already! I am 15 + 3 today, not panicking as I know that being overweight and having an anterior placenta can cushion the movements and make it later to feel them. Just wish I were feeling them Envy

Is anybody else finding that they're full after half a meal? Am supposed to be going for a three course meal tomorrow with work and DH, dont think I'll manage a lot of it!

Yorkstar · 25/11/2010 13:16

Afternoon :)

Pistachio i know exactly what you mean about age and dc's. I was 26 when i had ds and there was nobody i met my age - all were older in 30's or younger. Although i have to say, that they were all very lovely and iv made some lifelong friends i hope. This time im 28 and still the only one of my group of friends to have had children yet.

Loopy how exciting about scan on Sat, can't wait to find out gender. Iv got my 20 week scan in about a week and a half and really looking forward to finding out too :o

Elf i cannot eat the same size portions that i used too either. Shame because i love my food, but just so full after half a meal like you describe. Oh well, good for not piling too much weight on eh!

I know this is extremely early but i was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. Im 18 + 1 and have been having braxtion hicks for about a week now. Very mild but there is no mistaking what they are. I had them from 22 weeks with ds all the way throughout my pg but this time they are even earlier. They don't hurt but are the same tightening and occasional mild cramps and i can clearly see outline of where baby is lying. My sister told me to 'keep an eye on them' but not entirely sure what that means Confused. Any advice anyone?

DontWorryBaby · 25/11/2010 13:27

Pistachio and Yorkstar - I was 26 when I had DS and will be 28 by the time this baby arrives! We're obviously choosing the best ages to have babies at. Grin

Being at the end of the list (again - DS was due and born on 29th Nov 2009), means that I don't have my 20 week scan until 5th January! I have absolutely no inclination about what sex this baby will be but this article might help some of you identify from your existing scan pics... unfortunately the positioning of our baby wasn't right to see anything, and the pics were also very grainy compared to these examples. Will be interesting to see what the ratio of boys/girls is.

LittleMilla · 25/11/2010 13:48

hi all,

Been a little quiet over the last week or so, but been watching and it's good to see that 'most' are all OK.

I am still undecided on my movements, just so hit and miss.

sesamesmith I bought the angel thingy and tried last night and this morning. I couldn't find it :(. I know that it's unlikely to be nothing to worry about, but the instruction manual is just rubbish. I have been scouring the web and read all amazon reviews to try and work out where other people put it to find the HB, but it's a pretty inexact science by the sounds of things. I am kicking myself because i said that if I couldn't find HB I wouldn't worry...but of course I flipping am. And couple that with not knowing what the kicks blummin feel like, I am a little worried.

AM going to aim low with it tonight and see how I go. DH away on business, so also :( about not seeing him all week too.

Oh, and i didn't get a demi-expected promotion at work.

Not a great week. Grrr

Rollercoasteryears · 25/11/2010 13:56

Sesame I've just received an Angelsound doppler as well - it says it works from 14 to 16 weeks, but we couldn't find the heartbeat last night. How far down was it? I thought we covered the whole area below my belly button to the top of my knickers but only found my heartbeat! Any tips gratefully received! Jbells mine was £20 from Amazon too - could be the same one! Where did you find the heartbeat?

Tiredandgrumpy how was your MW appointment?

Loopy not long to wait for the scan - exciting! Sorry to hear you're still feeling so rubbish. That sounds much like I was until recently, although I still have my moments. Yesterday, I fell asleep on the sofa while DS watched Waybuloo and then far too many episodes of Peppa Pig. Barely managed to play with him all day. It makes you feel really crap doesn't it. And guilty about your DH - I kept having to give myself a strict talking to about it being only fair enough when I have to go through pregnancy and childbirth and my career has taken a nose dive - a few weeks of them doing more than their fair share isn't going to kill them, just make sure you remember that too! I do feel a lot more positive the last couple of weeks and I'm sure you will too soon.

Gingerwench you poor thing, that sounds awful! When I was nauseous, I also wanted to shout out that I was pregnant not hungover - you just assume everyone's judging you don't you! Fizzy drinks and constant eating were the only way forward for me too. Glad to hear you're a bit better today so far.

Mmmm, chocolate cake...

Yorkstar · 25/11/2010 14:02

Little Milla i find it helps if i have a full glass of water a while before hand. Then lie down flat on the bed and start very low down in the pelvis area to one side and listen for a while, if nothing try moving it very slowly across your pelvis area. You might pick up the whoosing sound of the placenta but babies don't seem to like the doppler so they often move away very quickly so it can take a while to find. They are still very tiny and depending on where they are lying, they can often get tucked right away. Try not to worry, but i know that's easy to say. Good luck tonight x

How many weeks are you?

jbells · 25/11/2010 14:24

hello everyone, managed to fight myself round asda and made a nice hot curry from scratch (very proud of myself lol) hoping it will do sum good to clear this headcold

Rollercoaster- i did manage to find hearbeat a couple of times now, it is very low down literally just above my bikini line, it changes and moves tho sometimes ill get it and 5 secs later the babys moved agen, hope u manage to find it, think it is a bit hit and miss at this stage. it prob is same doppler angelsounds in pink box with heart on it.

lilmila- try it agen on full bladder very low down

yorkstar- sorry havnt got any advice i didnt get braxton hicks till very very late in pregnancy, i wud get apt with midwife just to see what she says

LittleMilla · 25/11/2010 15:26

Yorkstar and jbells thanks for the tips. I am determined to find the blinking thing tonight. Crazy thing is that I'm sure I have felt the baby, so know it's there somewhere!!

I am now 18+4 and so thought it would be a piece of widdle. Especially as the MW got it straight away last week Hmm. ANd i haven't read about anyone at my stage not finding it.

Will go low and try and find duff duff (new name for baby after I heard it at the MW's appt last week).

rollercoaster let me know how you get on and where you find it. Like a needle in a haystack!! x

sesamesmith · 25/11/2010 16:40

Littlemilla & Rollercoaster don't worry! It's just for fun not for medical! But you could make sure you've had a good litre of fluid beforehand, and use the ultrasound gel (or oil or water if you don't have any). It was really low down for me - almost on the hair line, just to the right, and the same with the midwife today. Make sure you're relaxed, as the baby likes to bounce around when we're not, so try just before you go to sleep. Don't be afraid to push hard into your abdomen - the midwife certainly will!
As for the promotion - you'll be pleased to have an easier life!

Hello all,

I am 25 and will be 26 when bump arrives! I think it varies around here as people seam to have babies at either 18 to 20 of 30 to 35! Keep getting told im a late starter Confused

DontWorryBaby Thanks for the link, from the pics and looking at my scans I think its a little boy so it will be interesting to see when I have the scan as still waiting to have a letter with the date.

I have been feeling rubbish after 6 days of an upset tummy so went to the docs earlier and he said I am dhydrated so given me some special drinks and got to go back in the morning. Was so embarrased earlier as I look a walk to the local shippy for DHs tea before he went to nights and fainted on the counter so she had to call him. I literally had to kick him out of the house to go to work as I know I will be ok if I just stay lying down and I dont want him to worry. My mum is coming over later when she finishes work so will be fine. Bit scary tho

LittleMilla · 25/11/2010 21:34

seaseme, yorkstar and jbells I ahve managed to find it! Hurrah!! Sounded very much like a chugging train, so cool. Over the moon - yippeee!!

cowboylover I am 29. ALthough I look about 12, so I keep on being told I am very young to be having a child. Balls to anyone that passes comment in my mind! Grin

Night xx

I just discovered that you can message people privately without going on the forum. Not sure what use it would be, unless you wanted to meed up, for instance, but might be good information!
