Fantastic news about the scan Qwerty! Perfect time for your next scan. My 20 week scan is the week before Christmas and if it all looks ok, I'll be able to stop worrying (or so I think now) and it'll be the best Christmas present ever.

I forget who asked about Dopplers but we bought one from Amazon for £27. It just arrived on thurs night and I couldn't find a heartbeat first time but tried again last night (with a full bladder this time) and found it. It sounded different to the scan but was definitely it at 155 bpm - it was very exciting. I can't remember what brand it was but maybe Angel something

Re midnight bathroom visits I'm envious of anyone only going once a night! I'm normally 2-3 times a night

QwertyQueen · 20/11/2010 11:25

Just wanted to add something about finding out the sex.... we didn't find out with DS which was exciting and the right thing for us to do.
But, as you know, I had been feeling very disconnected form this baby, and since finding out it is a girl I am feeling much more in
tune with her... so for those of you feeling how I was, it is worth considering finding out?
:)

morning all,

pistatio- sorry your feeling rubbish agen, i hope it all clears up for u soon, i am still fighting this cold which is a nuseance so god knows howu must be feeling

qwerty- i am glad u r feeling more connected now u know its a girl, i find i dont really feel connected till i start to feel them kicking me and squirming around which i didnt feel till around 18 wks last time, ive got another scan on tues and my mum is coming with me this time so hoping this scan is a bit clearer, oh also i dont think DP is connected to the bump at all so i have bought a doppler today, im hoping him being able to mess around with the machinery and hear the heart beat will help

southpacific- i wudn worry i have a memory like a seive at the moment to lol, im sure u will receive the letter in the post to remind u anyway :)

i have my next scan on tues, i was let down by the first so im really excited to get annother one hopefully this one will be much better, managed to also swap DD nursery day to the tuesday when i have scan so i dont have to worry about taking her with me or finding a babysitter and panicking about how long the hospital will take

hope everyone is having a nice wkend
kiwigirl- thanks for your info on the dopplers i have just ordered one of amazon, hope it arrives soon :)

Bonkerz · 20/11/2010 12:00

Qwerty: congrats on your baby girl!

We are finding out on new years eve which just seems so darn far away :(
Found the heartbeat last night after much rooting around......168 beats per minute so i suspect i have anothe daughter.

Did some shopping this morning and distinctly felt movement, it actually made me stop dead as it was so definate, like a giant bubble popping in my belly and the like a water bomb sloshing aorund, made me smile.

Had horrendous dream last night, very vivid about baby (part of it was amusing as it can not happen) but it woke me up in tears :(

Feeling much better now though after my infection so will be back at work monday :(
Have now realised if i stick to carbs i can actually keep food down which is about blooming time really, am 15 weeks tomorrow!

jbells · 20/11/2010 12:08

oh has anyone read the study done on fetal heart rates apparantly its just an old wives tale and has no relevance i just googled in now

Yorkstar · 20/11/2010 14:09

Just checking in as its been so long, hope im allowed to stay :)

Life has just been so crazy busy recently and i was so ill for weeks. Finally got over the morning sickness and then got nasty stomach bug which wiped me out for another week. Finally been feeling well for over 3 weeks now and even thinking every now and again that i am getting that pregnancy 'glow', my hair is in lovely condition (not boasting though) as it was the same last time and then dropped out and looked awful for months after birth - going to embrace it while it lasts!

Am 17 + 3 today and have been feeling movements for a while now, although a have anterior placenta so they are cushioned and it depends entirely on where baby is lying to if i can feel them or not. Even when i keep poking!

RE: Nightime Bathroom visits: Im too up at least twice a night, so bloody disruptive as i don't really need to go any extra in the day.

Quewty congrats on the news of a little baby girl on the way :). I have my scan two weeks on Mon and can't wait to find out/

Hi to everyone else

runningmonkey That sounds awesome as a hen do! I am very over excited as my now totally gorgeous and lush DH has got us tickets for next weeks game so Bring on the Blacks! Woo hoo! Grin I am really enjoying the autumn internationals this year and once Christmas is over the 6 nations will be hear in no time. I have been having fun winding up DH saying I am going to watch every game of the World cup as I will be on maternity leave! Probably hopeful as I dont think babies are really into watching rugby? LOL!

Some of the Old Wives tales are crazy but they must have started from somewhere! I have not heard the heartbeat yet but the spinning ring and my mums friend who is a witch (in a good way!) all say its going to be a boy so interesting to see on the scan.

I have been wondering about how big or small the baby will be as DH was 12lbs and I was 8.5 so I cant see it being a small one but maybe early so you never know.

I bought a new winter coat today after the freezing weather has not set in! I was looking at specific maternity ones but all to expensive fro what the quality was like so today I bought a John Rocha one in the Debenhams discount that I can move the buttons a little on if needed when bump is bigger.

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. I cant believe how quick they go by.

Hospital again for the bloods hopefully on Wednesday so I will ask then when my 20 week scan will be. I think I am 20 weeks Christmas week so I am not sure what they work or if it makes a difference.

MummyWilliams · 20/11/2010 19:20

Yorkstar & Tinwe nice to see you back.

Yorkstar I too have an anterior placenta. Am slightly worried because I will need an ELCS and how will they make the incision if the placenta is at the front?

jbells yes the heartbeat thing is just prediction nonsense, but it did ring true with me.

Qwerty beautiful. A little pink one!

Bonkerz fantastic that you found the heartbeat and now feeling movements too.

Had an accident this morning! Slipped down the stairs oooo! ouch! Have a bruised left top of the bum, bruised shoulder blade and cut foot. It really, really shook me up. Didn't feel baby move til late this afternoon so have been very worried. Roll on Monday when I get to hear the heartbeat again!

We told the children including DSD last weekend. All very happy, but my children keep asking me when they get out of school, if the baby is still alive.

X-Factor tonight Grin

16 weeks today.

evening all, im just getting settled on the couch to watch xfactor, hopefully DP will cook dinner as he doesnt really like it anyway.

mummyw- ouch i hope your ok, bet it was very scary, i remember falling in the snow and ice the winter b4 last when i was pregnant and i wasok apart from a couple of cuts and bruises but was really scared aftawards.

cowboylover- nobody apart from my dad has commented on gender he just wants a grandson and i know DP wants a boy so pressure is on i will be trying the heartbeat thing see if it works on my or not :)

loopy- ill still be giving the old wives tales a go for fun :)

yorkstar- sorry youve been so ill, glad your feeling better nice to hear from u agen :)

MummyWilliams · 20/11/2010 20:20

pistachio both DC were always on 100th centile. I don't know the exact height measurement but DD who was 9 in May is in age 10-11 clothes and has been most of the year she is a size 4 shoe Shock. She is taller that DSD who turned 11 in August. DS who was 7 in April is in age 8-9 clothes and is a size 3 shoe. Neither are chunky just average in weight (but not slight by any means).

Hello all, sorry for long radio silence here, had a crappy week last week with DS being ill (resulting in 7 loads of vomit covered washing in 2 days...) and limited sleep as a result.

Just caught up with everyone's news, apologies in advance for what will inevitably be limited name checking.

Tinwe how did your evening dress shopping go? Hope you found something. I saw the MW on Tuesday and heard the heartbeat too - it is really exciting isn't it Smile.

Inspired by others, I've just ordered a doppler on amazon - the angelsounds one is currently only £20! I thought it would be lots more than that. Looking forward to it coming now!

Yorkstar good to see you, sorry to hear you've been feeling so rough.

MummyWilliams thrilled that things are still going well for you, though sorry to hear about your stairs tumbling incident. It must be tricky having the children ask if the baby is still alive though - as Loopy says, children are just so flpping matter of fact about these things.

Qwerty congratulations on your scan and exciting news! How lovely. I found out with DS last time and it also made me feel much more connected with him. Am torn this time - was planning to find out, but now having second thoughts. Am pretty convinced it's another boy though - no reason, just "instinct"!

17 weeks today - hurrah!

loopy also meant to say, thinking of you on your due date today. It's nice that you have somewhere to go and reflect.

southpacificfish · 21/11/2010 12:47

Pistachio I feel exactly the same as you about the whole pregnancy thing, could quite happily ignore it for 9 months if it weren't for the sickness / tiredness and then being kicked hard later on!

cowboylover · 21/11/2010 17:42

Hello all, feeling kind of rubbish today and in bed already so I think only a Twilight film session can make me feel better now! Think the dreaded cold is going to make an unwelcome return Sad

loopy thinking of you today. It's nice that you have somewhere to go and reflect.

Actually you all where the subject of Sunday dinner conversations today at my Mums! DH was telling her that he thinks im addicted to the 'baby blogs' or MN as the rest of us like to call it! I was saying how good it as and all the things that have happened so far ect she loved it!

HicUps · 21/11/2010 19:05

south Pacific thanks for the baby wipe tip. I will try it. Everything I do makes it worse!

This weekends been a bit odd. Huge Migrane/headache yesterday, am sure it must be pregnancy related. Totally knocked me out, so I couldn't really enjoy Stricty/X Factor/ celebrity marathon. Although whats not to enjoy about Gillian Mckeith doing a bush tucker trial!

Roll on tonights trial!

MummyWilliams · 21/11/2010 19:31

loopy have been thinking of you today, hope it was better than how you imagined. You know what I mean. I think the days leading up to it are worse than the actual day itself.

hicUps get wagner out. Gillian is driving me crazy, but love the fact that everyone is voting for her to do the trials all the time - i'm horrible aren't I?

Have midwife tomorrow afternoon, will be relieved to hear the heartbeat. Movements seem less prominent past few days but hoping that it is just my paranoia.

MummyW - Thanks to sky plus I just have to fast forward through Wagner, I can't bare him! Ive got Katie in the work X Factor sweep-stake, and I'm still not sure if I like her or not!

Ive not felt any movements yet, so hearing the heart beat was a total relief. Hope all goes for you. And others with appointments this week.

Bonkerz · 21/11/2010 20:35

well May cannot come soon enough for me. My sister had a baby boy this morning....been over to see her tonight and he is tiny at 6lb1oz and absolutely perfect. Am 15 weeks today, back to work tomorrow for me after a week off.
Been trying to plan my maternity leave today too so i can talk to my boss.
What is everyone else doing???????
I have to be back at work by September because im studying for a degree which will start in Oct so need to be back in the swing of things before then BUT im now considering taking more time off BEFORE baby comes which means i can finish at end of FEB and then have 26 weeks off and go back SEPT. which means i only have officially about 11 weeks of work left as i wont work over christmas!

tiredandgrumpy · 21/11/2010 20:49

Hi there everyone. Has anyone found an effective way of dealing with a cold/allergy? I've had a cold for the last 3 weeks straight and it's not showing any signs of going. Feeling especially sorry for myself as not only is it disturbing my sleep, but also, due to my less than perfect pelvic floor, I do a tiny wee every time I sneeze. (sorry if TMI.) How guaranteed is that to make me feel extra horrible?
