Hi, Loopy - yes the risk of the amnio does decrease...to 1:400.
And of course the testing can be done on a more developed baby so we will get a clearer picture - she thinks it will drop to 1:664 which isn't bad.....

valz · 19/11/2010 16:34

Hi All

WElcome September havent felt any movements myself yet, im 15 weeks today, im a bit surprised cuz ive read you usually feel them earlier than in your first pregnancy, im looking forward to feeling the flutters.

southpacific dads not really a workaholic but he is one of these people who thinks hes the only person who does any work. hes also one of those people who dosnt listen to his wife, so mam saying something to him would only result in her getting a earful. relationship with grandchildren, well hes not a doting grandad, he does talk and laugh with the children, he wouldnt really be interested in lifting them certainly not when theyre tiny babies. although my mam has said shes surprised at the interest he shows in them cuz he wouldnt have acted towards us in the same way when we were that age. reading through this it dosnt paint a great picture of him, but i have to say he has always been very generous towards his children and weve had a very comfortable upbringing. hes just quite a odd character.

Ive seen quite a few of you have colds or havent been feeling well so i hope you feel better soon. thankfully here the ms has gone but the unbearable hunger has stuck. anyone else feel like they seem to get hungary a short time after eating?

DontWorryBaby · 19/11/2010 17:04

qwerty congratulations on having a pink bump! Can't believe you know already... Hope the Christmas eve scan is more conclusive for you.

HicUps · 19/11/2010 17:30

Hi All,

Just done a bit of catching up. This week I am mostly:
a) starving
b) weeing in the night
c) getting heavier
d) Getting spots!!!
e) Getting cross a DH throwing red wine on cream carpet... that won't come out!!

Had midwife visit this week. Heard heart beat, was like music to my ears! All seems ok so far. Bit disappointed cos I've seen a different mid-wife each time I've been (ok so that only 3 visits), but a bit disconcerting nevertheless.

Hugs to all lovely pregnant ladies Smile

cowboylover · 19/11/2010 17:53

Hiya all, congratulations on your girl Qwerty! Those rates are not exactly ideal but still good which ever way you look at it.

I got to the hospital today to find our my MW had just started being sick and they where worried it was a bug so she couldnt see me so now I need to go AGAIN next Wednesday. At 15 weeks I will be having my 1st blood tests! Does anyone know if they will still be able to do everything they need to?

Very excited tonight now as just about to pick up my SIL to go to Cardiff and cheer on Wales against Fiji Grin I got my thermals on and happy for bumps 1st visit to the stadium! We are a very rugby house so I hope baby likes it!

HicUps · 19/11/2010 17:54

Lovely spotty pregnant women!

DontWorryBaby · 19/11/2010 18:16

cowboy Up here (Glasgow), you're booked in for bloods at 15 wks so I'd imagine it's ok. We're a rugby house as well - enjoy the game!

Hiya ladies,

Sorry for the mega-absence. Have been absolutely wiped out by various work stresses and then our internet was down for about a week so have only been able to read on my phone (hate typing on it).

Going to attempt a bit of a namecheck...

Sorry to hear so many people have been suffering with colds and other illnesses. Hope you are all recovering a bit now. I have a permanently stuffed up nose so am suffering along with you.

qwerty congrats on your pink bump :) Sorry the results weren't exactly as you hoped but as others have said the odds are going in the right direction so hopefully that is helping a little.

jbells I love swimming. Have been taking DD to lessons since she was 16 weeks and she loves it as well. I have to actually hold her back from jumping in until we're ready to start the lesson! I also love the looooonnng naps afterwards as well :o

cowboy Envy at the rugby. Hope you have a great time. My brother and Dad went to the South Africa game last weekend and had a ball. One of my colleagues is off to the Wales/All Blacks game next weekend and doesn't even like rugby. Grrrrrr. I had my hen do at the Millenium Stadium and got to run down the tunnel onto the pitch, was fab :o

hicups I am also v spotty. In fact rivalling some of the teenagers I teach in the acne stakes. Nice.

weeing I am at least three times a night. V annoying. Especially when I wake up bursting about an hour before the alarm goes off!

valz really hope you get the work/Dad situation sorted, a difficult one. I think you should def take what you are entitled to though if you can. Is there anyone else in the family who can maybe have a word with him?

loopy glad you met such a lovely mw who gave you a heads up about the consultant and you have managed to change your appt. I am so in awe of how well informed you are about your options. I don't know where to start with knowing how to approach mine as I think I'd like to be at home if possible but not sure how feasible it is as its poss that as DD was a biggy bump could be a giant one! Will have to wait until late scans to make decisions I think.

I have had my first consultant appt and luckily for now all my bloods and things look ok so no gestational diabetes yet. Have to have a full GTT at 28 weeks and then growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks. The consultant was v nice and had some good advice about my fear of needles, in particular cannulation after what happened with DD. 16 week MW appointment next Thurs, am hoping to hear a heartbeat.

Ooh also excitingly found out that my cousin is due on the same day as me with her second :)

Off to oggle hunky welshmen watch the rugby. Have a lovely weekend ladies.

Thanks loopy. You sound like you would be a great mw to me :) If its a dream and you can afford it, I would say go for it. I changed careers to teaching 5 years ago and despite the workload I can honestly say that I love it - probably a bit too much which is why I've been stressed out! One of the ladies from my antenatal thread with DD is a mw and has three children and a husband who works shifts so it is workable with a family (I think she trained in between DC2 and 3).

What you say about choices rings v true for me. I think that with DD I went in quite naively to my induction (two weeks over due date) and didn't expect the 0-60 nature of the pain. I also remember repeatedly telling the mw that my birthplan should be binned as it was written when I wasn't expecting to be induced but she wouldn't and kept reading it and referring to things I had said on it (e.g. I had said I wanted to try to avoid epidural) but was asking for one from the beginning of having the drip but she wouldn't listen even when DH was almost shouting at her! We both felt v let down by her care to be honest and think that some of the things that happened with DD's birth wouldn't have happened if 1)we had been better informed and 2) she had been a bit more receptive! I will not make the same mistake this time :)

wow pistachio! There is a bit of a history of big babies in my family - my male cousin was 13lbs Shock hopefully I won't follow that trend :)

I can see your point loopy the inflexibility of my job makes it difficult to take half days or things if our childminder needs time off. Puts a lot of pressure on DH although we are lucky that his workplace are v family oriented so he has flexibility to work around childcare issues (and he loves spending Daddy time with DD too). I only work three days a week though so when DD and bump go to school I'll be able to do a bit of school run stuff though which I am looking forward to - is it really the fashion parade that it seems from reading threads on here?!

I wasn't sure they would be able to tell the sex, but the woman who did it showed us and explained it all, it was a amazingly thorough scan - about half an hour, 10 pics and a DVD! I asked how accurate it was, and she said if it is a boy, she will give me back all the money I spent on pink! ;)

QwertyQueen · 19/11/2010 21:45

I can't remember seeing Zinnia on here for quite a while?
hope all good....

sesamesmith · 19/11/2010 23:24

Told my auntie today - she was thrilled. She said that neither she nor my mum got morning sickness, so it's all my Dad's fault!

Bronchitis is subsiding, only to be replaced by morning sickness again - can't win!!!!

Qwerty that's great that you know it's a girl. I would have been happy with those odds - under 1 in 100 would have given me cause for concern, but, having got this far, I think that's pretty good. My next scan is on 23rd December so we can directly compare notes... Goodness knows how they get these figures! I've also read that the mc risk decreases as you go through pregnancy.

Cowboy They would have to do a different sort of combined screening, but you can still get the same results.

Pistachio & Runningmonkey - owch!!!!

Haven't heard from Tinwe since 10th November & tummy bug - hope you're ok xxx

fijibaby · 20/11/2010 03:32

Cowboy Envy about you being at the rugby! We watched it here where they will definitely count it as a win! Roll on next weekend and the ABs!

Qwerty as others have said, your risk might sound daunting but my obstetricians said they don't get excited about anything lower than 1:250 and it sounds like your people know what they are dong with follow up checks. How lovely to know what you are having... a pink baby will be lovely!

I'm spotty too. AND blackheads... lovely.

Just quietly, it feels like the fatigue is lifting and I'm heading back to something approaching normal energy levels. Managed to make chilli and bake the cherub some cheese, carrot and broccoli muffins as well as get to bub club and host a dinner party ALL IN THE SAME DAY!!! Normally that would be our social engagements for the week! And with a gentle prod I can now feel my uterus - I'm very excited. No signs of movement yet but I didn't feel a thing until 20 weeks last time and then it was full on from there. Hoping everyone else is benefitting from the 2nd trimester bloom.

Hi all and especially Sesamesmith :)

Apologies I haven't posted sooner but I've had a tough week at work, working late almost everynight and feeling rough too. When tummy bug cleared I started with sinus trouble and DP had a chest infection so we both got little sleep. Plus wedding stuff too (31 days to go according to my count down timer)!

Loved reading every ones posts on my phone in the wee small hours tho (under covers so to not wake DP) :) but only just figuring out how to message from it myself... It's a 'smart phone' but touch screen is driving me crazy - did try to message a couple of days ago but it ate it! Sorry for not name checking this time but daren't leave this screen to check back.

I've not got the hunger yet. Seem to go straight to feeling sick if I haven't eaten for about an hour. I've not put any weight on yet so think the 'avocado' is trying to make up for that. I'm even waking up in the night to eat- hope I fit my wedding dress. Hen do next weekend, city break for shopping, but not sure how I'll fair. Not got the second trimester bloom properly yet.

On a brighter note heard the avocados heart beat on Wed in my check up with the midwife and surprised myself by how excited I got... Mind you, I cried at La Bamba yesterday so think maybe I'm a little highly strung at the moment!

Out shopping for an evening outfit for the wedding today, think my dress will be too tight and heavy to last all day... Wish me luck.

southpacificfish · 20/11/2010 09:25

Ok so I'm feeling pretty stupid. After asking when I'd get my 20 wk appt through for the second scan and Jbells giving me helpful information, I also asked my mw yesterday and she said "you should have made it when you had you first scan at the hospital"....which of course I did, I had just completely forgotten about it! So 15th Dec for second scan and we had a good listen to heartbeat yesterday. Although I don't want to find out what sex the baby is, I thought I could get a fair idea from the heartrate but no, rate is 150-155 so a little too in the middle to decide either way. Hee hee never mind.

Littlemilla If you manage to get your LO into a good sleep routine, you may find that you still get some reasonable lie-ins. Our DD at under 1 was often sleeping until 8am and now she often doesn't wake me until gone 8am when I hear her playing in her bedroom. Tracey Hogg's baby whisperer book is really helpful to establish healthy sleep habits.

HicUps Babywipes (Tescos in particular) get EVERYTHING out of ANYTHING! Have scrubbed 2 day old red wine stains out of carpet with them and have left no trace of red wine at all! Job done! Lord knows what they do to babies bottoms but they are great with stains and spills!

Valz Guess your dad is just not a baby person then but it does sound as though he is dedicated to providing for his family. I bet when he retires he'll be so very different towards the kids. Hope you manage to cope with the work situation somehow, we're here if you need some support anyway.

Qwerty Congrats on the news about having a baby lady! Think you're the first to know for sure aren't you?

Fiji Did your muffins go down well? They sound a perfect way to hide veg!!

Bit spotty too! Also think I've become allergic to my cat which is a bit of a bore.

Have booked in to get a haircut this afternoon so that's guaranteed to make me feel much more glamorous!
