Loopsy you really seem to be the authority on slings, blimey. I live in a first floor flat and so the whole issue of getting a puchchair in and out has been worrying me a little. Perhaps I ought to consider a sling. But without wanting to sound rediculous, is it tricky when you're a little shorter (I am 5ft 1)?

Rollercoaster I think it's all OK and I am trying not to worry. JBells my tum has literally popped and all I want to do is wear tight clothes and scream out "Look, I am really pregnant!". I am losing it!

Those people talking about weight, I am stupidly a bit of a scales freak. My weight has always bobbed up and down by a few pounds, but i'm now 17 weeks and happy to admit I have put of 4lbs. I'm feeling OK about it, mostly because I know a fair bit has gone on my boobs. Hurrah!

Feeling positive, I hope that you all have a great week. x

Helenabing · 14/11/2010 16:44

hello everyone - I just wanted to share a big HURRAH - am now 13+6 and figure that puts me in the 2nd trimester? This is baby no.1 so I'm very chuffed that we made it through the 'danger' zone.

Littlemilla I was told I wouldn't show until about now, but my baby has been around for all to see for at least 3 weeks now - much bigger than I thought I would be! Is it all chocolate as DH says?! No weight gain to speak of tho so ???

am looking forward to a night of strictly, x factor (Why are they on at the same time tonight?! Confused) and I'm a celeb... couch potato? me?!

x

Out of bed for the first time since Monday, thanks to this dire bronchitis :( Can I recommend that people don't get sick while they're pregnant?!

Loopy I need you to train my hubby - we've had falling out this week because he makes such a fuss about doing meals/cleaning/clearing that I've ended up doing it myself while really, really poorly. He's so in my bad books!!!!

I just got the Dorothy Perkins maternity stuff - freak out! The jeans are enormous, and only size 10. Too big to wear just yet, thank goodness.

Re weight: I stopped weighing myself when I met DH and put on nearly 2 stone. Never mind. I lost it all since Christmas for our wedding in May, and am now pregnant - just wasn't supposed to be...

Re exercise: I'm looking into the local hotel/conference centre's gym. I'm absolutely devastated that my tennis will have to end, if it hasn't already, thanks to the weather vs lungs/asthma, but if I can go somewhere a little luxurious/private, it might make up for it a bit.

cowboylover · 14/11/2010 17:49

I watched my special xfctor this morning while cleaning up from the party; its great as I record it all on sky plus then fast forward everything except the performances and then watch the results with only Durmot reading them out and the sign for survival bit then see who goes. Cant face watcing it all as the judges comments wind me up and im sure I only watch it so I know what they are on about in the office all the time. DH cant stand it and moaning that its a kareoke competition and hes right!!

Party went really well but im so tired today, im very glad all the food was cooked and served on disposible platters and all surfaces in the lounge had table cloths on so a nice easy clean Smile

Im just super tired today and I think its because im a little nervous about the new role starting tomorrow but im hoping to wake up a bit soon as DH bought the new XBOX Kinnex yesterday and it looks great fun as hes bouncing around the lounge and im glued to the sofa on here.

I hope everyone has a good week ahead. Any scans this week? I got to go back Friday for more blood tests and cant believe its 14 weeks already.

LittleMilla · 14/11/2010 18:08

cowboy - all the very best for tomorrow, I am sure that it'll all be marvelous. Try and get an early night if you can though.

Loopy you are a legend, thank you very much. I will check them out. We're trying to be quite sensible about what we buy. I've got a 15 y/old half sis and luckily my ma is an absolute hoarder. So we've got a cot, high chair (for a bit later) and a moses bassket from my brother all lined up. Only big purchase will be pram - planning to scan shops for one I like then go on eBay. So I reckon only new thing will be the car seat...based on what I've read.

Helena big huge congrats to getting to this brilliant milestone. It's a relief, isn't it? Been on baby centre today and apparently the baby can hear you talking. So all afternoon my rediculous DH has been chatting to my tum! Ha. My DH (jokingly) will say that my bump is all guff - and erm, I must confess that it certainly deflated the other night when I 'relaxed'. Ahem. Blush. Luckily we havea relationship when wind etc is simply laughed at...so we're finding it all hilarious!

LoobyLou33 · 14/11/2010 20:12

Hi all it's been weeks since I posted - it's really hard to keep up if you get behind and don't want to miss out anyone's news! I had a crazy few weeks at work (I'm a local radio reporter/newsreader which is sometimes massively intense and busy) then a week's holiday in which I mostly slept, was sooooo tired... but I think that's finally easing, yay!

Great to see some more newbies and hear about people's scans - isn't it amazing to see the little baby waving and wriggling!

Apparently it's now about the length of a pencil (I'm 16 + 5) which is amazing - where's it hiding?? I do have a large bump mind you but apparently that's not actually baby?

Here's to more happy heartbeats and successful scans Smile

Sorry I can't refer to everyone's news but here's a few messages...

Qwerty I'm terribly sorry about your son's friend, that's awful news. It must be so hard for him and his friends Sad

mumandabump - yes we have non-alc becks in the fridge it's very nice!

Iheart Wow you've been through a lot, sorry you had that experience but hope all's well now?

Crazy Wow - TWINS?! Amazing! My friend's bro just had 2 beautiful twins they look so cute next to each other...

*Mummy W - re: finding out sex - they won't tell you at our hospital and I wasn't particularly bothered so won't pay for a scan somewhere else - will have to wait and see!!

sesame and anyone with nasal problems...sorry you've had bronchitis and asthma...I hope the antibiotics are working? Are you better?
I've had a bunged up nose every night for about a month now. Anyone else got this? I tried nasal strips, olbas oil and saline but none of them work...been taking vix sinex after calling NHS direct but am worried about whether it's a good idea - any tips? Should I try the doctor/midwife? I'm not prepared to breathe through my mouth all night cos it wakes me up every hour and feels awful!
Argh - just as the sickness eases some other hassle comes along Angry

DCM Let me know how you get on with aquanatal... I hadn't been doing any exercise whatsoever because of feeling so utterly grotty and tired but really WANT to do some basic activity.. trying to walk a bit more and would love to do aqua natal, my mw mentioned it last week.

Have a good week everyone Smile

Hi ladies

i need advice or opinions on something..i worked full time in the accounts office at my dads firm, when i became pregnant the first time, i stupidly told him that rather then take maternity leave i would work from home. there was a lady had covered 2months when i had the babys (she is no longer available) i then started working from home. i have to admit i quickly realised the whole reasoning behind maternity leave and i had many run ins with my dad regarding how quickly work was been done etc. he seems to think i havent much work to take care of, i cant understand how he dosnt see im doing the same work i always done whilst in the office plus look after two children, we seem to bicker about this quite regular. anyways this pregnancy i did plan on taking maternity leave becasue i simply could not go through that again and my circumstances are much different too. i only told my dad yesterday i was pregnant, i had kinda put it off cuz i almost felt awkward about work and telling i was taking leave this time etc. so here was the conversation, dad ive another baby on the way, so thats two grandchildren arriving next year (my sis is also pregnant), he said: its not the babys im worried about, it means even less work will get done. im actually crying just thinkin of his reaction. i felt like saying dont worry about your work cuz ya'll be paying someone else to do it, only a lump came in my throat i knew i couldnt speak without crying.

Im unsure now if he expects that i'll not take leave this time cuz i was the one suggested i wouldnt take it last time, or maybe he'd prefer i did take it but is assuming id prefer not too. i am just so disappointed about what he said, when i think of it i get angry and think f*ck it i dont care taking leave im entitled to it, ahh working for family is soo awkward.

Ladies what do you make of this, anyone else find themselves in the same or similar situation? i remember reading a message from someone who said they do there husbands and brother in laws books from home and was wondering what your plans are?

QwertyQueen · 15/11/2010 13:14

Hi...
We had DS's friend's Celebration of his life today. Too sad for works, but such a beautiful, positive ceremony. DS's class sang his favourite songs to everyone and then each child let go of a helium balloon for him.

Thank you so much for all your kind words, so nice to know you were thinking of us.

I have such a tension headache and would REALLY love a couple of glasses of wine tonight. Actually, maybe I should get some of those non alcoholic Becks in - the Cobra ones are good too.

Have my scan on Friday, so hope this week goes quickly and all well, so I can have a relaxing weekend.

It is summer here in a big way and we are all melting! Sure beats grey skies though.

stripeybumpsmum · 15/11/2010 13:57

Hello all. Remember me? Just thought I'd post and give you an update.

First scan shows everything looks ok (combined bloods not back yet) but relieved nonetheless. Bit further along than I thought - new due day 19th May. Will add to the stats thread.

Nowehere near as much sickness as previous 2 pregnancies (although I am probably living on adrenaline and distraction). Normal levels of nausea and early morning sickness rather than HG so I'm happy.

Also huge - about the same size bump as I was at 5 months with DD. Hmmmm. Minimum actual weight gain.

DD truned 3 last week. She is still having chemo, all last week in hospital. Hard work in every sense, we're just getting through it. IF everything goes to plan, her treatment should finish with a couple of weeks to spare before baby arrives.

Probably won't be able to post for a while, just wanted to say hi and wish you all well.

QwertyQueen · 15/11/2010 14:17

Hi Stripey - so good to hear from you again!
Hope DD is responding well to the treatment :)

afternoon all

hope everybody is doing well, went to see my midwife today to see how i go about changin hospitals, i was pleasantly surprised to see it was the midwfe who dealt withmy after care and therefore is very understanding of the way im feeling as she knows wot i went thru as regards to the swab infections etc, sad to say but i hadto hold back the tears when speaking to her as it bought the whole thing back to me

DD also had 2 injections today felt so guilty and had to hold back my tears then to :(

pistatio- we have had a horrible cold pass round our household to, really knocks u when your pregant and makes the exhaustion worse, hope u feel better soon

hi stripey- dont think i have spoke to u before but just wanted to say really hope your DD responds well to treatment it must be so hard for u all

qwerty- glad the ceremony went well, i can only imagine how emotional thatmust have bin for everyone hope your family is ok

valz- thats a tough one it is hard working for family, however i will say u need to do wots best for your family if your dad had employed someone else to do your job and they got pg they wud take matleave and i think its only fair that u do aswell, im sure once he has someone in place to take over he will be fine about the whole thing

loopy- hope your feeling better and if not your taking it easy in bed

cowboy- glad the party went well dont know where u got the energy from lol, im am very upset that aiden went last nite and not katie he was one of y favourites

will have to go sorry cudnt catch up with everyones knews DD has just woke up so going up to get her

MummyWilliams · 15/11/2010 17:35

Hello all!

sripey lovely to hear from you. Hope things continue to go well for you. Update us when you are able to.

jbells I'm sorry but I didn't like Aiden. Rebecca to win! Grin

qwerty as pistachio said it must have been emotionally exhausting. No wonder you feel like you need a drink. How many weeks are you? It's safe to have A glass of wine once you are in the 2nd trimester.

cowboy party sounds fab!

pistachio hope you feel better soon. We've all had it and it is absolutely dreadful. Can recommend Olbas oil added to a bowl of hot water at bedtime.

valz I've never worked for family myself. But if I were in your shoes I would take what I was entitled to. It is there for a reason. Your Dad is being very selfish.

loopy are you ok today?

loobylou it is quite normal to get nasal congestion in pregnancy. I'm not sure about using the Vicks thing though, I was told by the pharmacist that I wasn't allowed to use Vicks rub when I had a cold a few weeks back. I would definately go to your GP/midwife if its really uncomfortable.

Re-WEIGHT GAIN I don't weigh myself ever, it's all about how I feel in my clothes. If they start to feel a bit tight I cut back on calories for a bit. But in pregnancy I don't bother. I have put quite a bit of weight on already I estimate 8-10lbs and have gone up a size Shock BUT not to worry because I will work hard to make it disappear once baby is hear.

Had a lovely time with my mum and dad. Had special meal out, all paid for by my brother. Mum loved the present we got her which was a charm bracelet style watch from Accessorize.

I am with everyone who has said that they have felt movement then get really scared when they haven't felt it as well on another day. I am exactly the same.

Scan this wednesday with the consultant at 10.15am.

15+2 today. If I could get to past 18 weeks I might relax a little bit more.

xxx

What's everyone getting DP/DH for Christmas?

OP posts:
DMCWelshCakes · 15/11/2010 17:54

Well I survived the aquanatal class & have to say I really enjoyed myself. It hasn't changed since I went when I was expecting DiddyDragon. (The best bit was the hot chocolate in the cafe afterwards though. Grin) I felt very tired afterwards, but much better in myself. Got to love those endorphins really.

Apparently you can do our aquanatal class from 12 weeks onwards & it's run by a midwife so I guess she knows what she's talking about on that score.

Next MW appointment tomorrow. Does anyone know if they listen for the heartbeat at 15+4? I've totally forgotten what happens at each appointment!

jbells · 15/11/2010 18:28

mummyw- so far i have got DP just things he has asked for like a police bracelet, dvds, games, top from gstar etc also some aftershave, he wanted a psp but there is no way i am getting him something else to distract his attention he already has an xbox and an iphone. oh and being from around liverpool i will be supporting rebecca to butmy top 3 were matt, rebecca and aiden, must say simon cowell is being really annoying this year

DMC- glad u enjoyed the aqua natal class i will have to look up when and there i have a local one, i think in my last preganancy i was 14wks when they listened for heartbeat so i wud presume so :)

MummyWilliams · 15/11/2010 19:22

DMC I went to midwife last Monday she listened to heartbeat and I was 14+2 at the time.

jbells agree with you on Simon Cowell being annoying.

Where is loopy? it's not like her not to post.

OP posts:
DMCWelshCakes · 15/11/2010 20:29

Hope so. I think everything's ok as I can feel lots of movement (either that or I've got really localised & creative wind), but it would be nice to have proper confirmation.

cowboylover · 15/11/2010 20:52

stripeybumpsmum Nice to hear from you x

jbells My friend had a bad experience at her local hospital so is now coming to our local one which is about 10 mins further away and they where really supportive of her choice.

MummyWilliams DH is going Snowboarding for the first time in February so I think I will get him a few holiday bits but its all soooo expensive! More imprortantly I dont know what I fancy this year as my head is really not in it! DH asked me if I fancied some baby stuff for christmas but that does not really feel like gifts for me but he does have nice taste so im not sure?!

XFactor: I have watched it for the first time this year and got into it but im my edited verson without the adds and judges comments! Grin I love Rebecca and I find Paige really boring.

First day in work in the new role and I really enjoyed it! Nice to have a new team around me and a manager in the office rather than distance one I had before. We worked together a few years ago and already feel nice to be 'back in the fold' as it was!

I think my appetite has come back at last and I cant stop eating or drinking fruit juice in the last week! Worse things I could get into I suppose.

heh! loopy I had a rough night with DD too. She was sick a few times through the night, so lots of sympathy, but thankfully no cleaning up, as she is old enough to make it to the loo. Hope you have a better night, tonight.

How ill does a pregnant woman have to be before the husband will do the cooking without being asked?

cowboylover · 15/11/2010 22:13

sesamesmith VERY!
But that maybe because mine cant wont cook but he does a) call a takeaway b) call his mam for a delivery of homecooked goodness of c) call my mum until she brings us homecooked goodness or whats left from her shift at the pub where she is a cook.
