DMCWelshCakes · 12/11/2010 18:38

Hello everybody.

Qwerty - that's so sad. :( Hope DS is ok.

Am very pleased it's the weekend although DH & DiddyDragon are both ill so it's not going to be as laid back as I hoped.

Am hoping to start aqua natal fitness classes this weekend. Is anyone else doing any exercise? I didn't start the classes until much later last time around & I think I left it a bit late. I'm hoping not to reach gargantuan proportions until at least after Christmas (and then it'll mainly be mince pies if I'm honest) so am trying to get a bit more active. Well, that's what I'll tell myself until we get to the coffee bar after class. Grin

jbells · 12/11/2010 18:49

jbells · 12/11/2010 18:51

DMC-xpost i was also hoping to start aqua natal classes but was advised not to start them till 28 wks altho i cant understand y

HicUps · 12/11/2010 19:27

Hi guys,
Took me a while to catch up, but just want to send a big hug to all. Seems like many are having tough times. Sending good vibes to you .

Elf - I also often get infections. Cranberry is good (but I could only stomach so much). So if you fancy an alternative robinsons barley water is also non-acidic and might help.

JBells - good luck with interview!

Talking of work, my DH is sadly out of work at the mo, so the pressure is on me. Maternity pay isn't going to cover our mortgage. Nothing like a bit of financial worry to add to the mix, as if general exhaustion isn't enough!

Anyhoo, take deep breath count to 10. Just wish I could have a glass of wine!

Happy weekends all.

DontWorryBaby · 12/11/2010 19:31

Hmmm should I take it since, those of you with roughly two years between children have used twin prams, that I will need to have one, even if I don't use it daily? I was hoping (naively perhaps) that I could use a sling for baby with DS in his own pram for around 6 months, by which point DS will be 2 and hopefully able to go on a buggy board. Should I just go buy a phil&ted's since I've heard so much about them? Haven't even looked at the prices yet... think DH might be in for a shock!

jbells I think it depends on whether you want to breastfeed or not. Underwired bras can damage your milk ducts, I think, so they recommend wearing non-underwired bras. I also think, if I remember correctly, that maternity bras have more hooks to adjust the band with as your rib cage expands so they're a bit more accomodating.

I would love to take an aqua fitness class but the only suitable classes locally are on during office hours. I did antenatal yoga last time around and, like you DMC, felt that I left it too late as I did 6 weeks once I was over 30 weeks. The yoga centre I go to run a 13-30 wk class and a 30wk plus class so i think this time I'll try to book a block of 6/7 between 20 & 30 weeks then another block of 6/7 when I'm over 30 weeks. I found the last time that it was nice to spend an hour focussing on your body and the baby. I wouldn't necessarily rush back to antenatal yoga but feel that I need to do something myself and since I can't fit in aquanatal... nothing else for it!

Oh.. I mean to say.

I had to do a bit of clothes shopping the other day. Growth spurt means I can hardly fit into anything. For those (like me) where its their first time, I did find this amusing. Mamma's and Pappa's shop, in the maternity clothing fitting room there was a strap on bump! So you could see what you looked like in the clothes in several months time.

I nearly cried!!! It just made me go all wobbly looking at what I'm gonna look like! Hormones obviously!

After that.. I bought stuff from H&M!

Loopy - Thank you Smile, I'm ok.. just a born worrier!

Morning all,

Just getting my weekly catch up - it's like catching up on a good book. As others have said, very sorry to hear that some are having a tough time.

Now, I know i'm a slight imposter on this (DD 25th April - was put back a week), I wanted to say. I THINK I CAN FEEL MOVEMENT. Aaaaahh.

Now, never sure if it's grumbling tum, wind, or food being digested. But my tummy just seems to be more active than ever. Freaking me out.

I am 16+6 today.

Anyone else, or am I being odd??

ilovemydogandMrObama · 13/11/2010 13:07

milla a bit like fluttering butterflies? Yup, that's the baby. Smile. I found when pregnant with DS that he liked to move around when I was in the bath.

*loopy now, let's talk slings. Which ones do you like? I still have a Papoozle that I like a lot. And am looking at a Hug a Bub.

Rollercoasteryears · 13/11/2010 19:32

Qwerty what sad news. Hope your DS is ok.

Don'tworry - I'm planning to do the single/sling and later single/buggy board combo too - buying a double seems a waste of money. But my DS will be 30 months when this one's born and he's a good walker already, so I reckon I might get away with it. Then again, I've just seen Pistachio's point about having nowhere to put the baby at crucial moments, which is worth bearing in mind...

I used to carry DS in a sling much more than use the pushchair when he was little anyway, so intend to do the same with this one. Loopy I was very boring and used the baby bjorn active, but thanks for your link, there are clearly some much more interesting slings out there - will investigate further!

JBells I don't know what you're worrying about - 3lbs is nothing! I haven't weighed myself for about a month, but I'd put on 10lbs by about 10 weeks... Ok, I've just weighed myself to find out the worst, and I've put on about 1st5lbs (at 16 weeks). So I really don't think you have anything to worry about! I'm actually not particularly bothered about it though, I put on a lot with DS, but I'm nearly 5ft 10 and although I probably put on a bit more than I should have, it was mostly pregnancy gain rather than fat and it came off pretty quickly once I was BF (ok, not all of it, but close enough to my original weight for me not to care much). And crikey pistachio, you've gained nothing! Am I the odd one out here?!

HicUp yes I had that experience in M&P when I was shopping for DS1, it's very strange isn't it? I actually have been back this time and strapped it on again to see what a top would look like - it's not nearly so surreal for your second child, as you know what you'll look like with that enormous bump already!

LittleMilla yes I've felt movement a few times now (I'm 16 weeks tomorrow) - felt a big one the other evening in bed but nothing since, which I'm trying (and slightly failing) not to let worry me...

Loopy a 5 hour meeting with the IM sounds pretty detailed! No wonder you couldn't summarise it to DH in the space of 5 mins before you went to bed. Did you feel like you bonded with her?

gingerwench · 13/11/2010 19:46

HI there
re weight well I've put on 4.5 lbs at 14 weeks which i'm ok with but starting overweight so ideally shouldn't put on masses. Only 5 ft 1 so it really shows but happily high bump means I do look pregnant rather than just fat if I wear the right clothes.

I feel occasional movements that are definitely baby not digestive (although plenty of those too).

I used a Moby sling with DS and liked it a lot for comfort and support but didn't like quite so much esp in the summer and I had to keep tightening it. Also lack of head support when DS was little cos he never kept his head under the fabric. Any recommendations from you more experienced sling-users?

pissovski · 13/11/2010 19:59

Hi all :)

Have been on the Mums to be in May on the PG forum but found out about this thread and thought i would join :)

I am 15+3, due 4th of may. At the moment i am still wearing my normal jeans. I am kinda between 2 sizes, but like my comfort and so buy a size up so i guess i am now growing into them! I have actually lost about 6lbs since getting my BFP Confused Maybe i have been eating more healthily, but i have also found that my portion size has decreased (as i simply can't eat as much generally!).

One thing i have found this week is that i seem to get achey/sore bum cheeks Blush generally when i walk . Its weird! Has anyone else had this?

jbells · 13/11/2010 20:00

hello all,

sorry i bought up the weight subject lol, ive always been a bit obsessed with weight and when i was about 20 had a slight eating disorder in which i went down to 7 stone then managed to sort my head out altho iam completely over it and eat like a pig i do still obsess over weight and weigh myself everyday i just dot go to extreme measures to lose weight anymore, anyway theres my little weight story :)

got the job today, gud news and bad i got the job but i thought it wud be 8 hours 4 on sat and 4 on sun, but its only 5.5 on a sunday, so going to have to try find smething else aswell, dont want anything of any importance just something to tide me over untill mat leave, will start looking for something in marketing agen later on

gingerwench- i am same height and it does show on u more when your small, my lil tiny bump is very low so just looks like ive been eating too much lol

lilmila-rollercoaster- how lovely that u have started feeling the baby more, i think itmakes the whole thing a bit more real when the bump becomes more prominent and u start feeling movements :)

pistatio- agree with the bum add on lol my but went big last time didnt realise untill afta birth when i tried to put a pair ofjeans on

well im off to have sum tea and indulge in chips rice and curry from the chippy :)

Rollercoaster I put on about 3.5 stone last time (I'm 5'9) and I only know that because I jumped on my mum's scales at about 37 weeks out of interest! I don't weigh myself regularly, pregnancy isn't the time to be watching your weight... unless you're eating too many cakes but I'd imagine most of us are trying to eat fairly healthily! It just drops off while breastfeeding anyway. I have no idea what weight I am just now but I'm definitely bigger at this stage than I was in my first pregnancy. Just been shopping for some maternity clothes today - I'm ok in my jeans which must sit lower but needed some soft, elastic waistbands for work. Nothing worse than sitting at a desk with clothes digging into your bump.

I think we're going to need a pram which will take the two. I'll be out a lot alone with the two babies, well baby and 18mth old. Imagining scenarios like having to change their nappies... a twin pram would be much better but I do prefer the phil & ted's style which are narrower as I'll probably be off and on the buses. Am I right in thinking that the lowest seat on a phil & ted's can be removed and you can use it as a single as well?

I'll definitely be investing in a sling, even if only for around the house to make sure I can be active with DS and also get at least some housework done! Not quite ready to start researching/buying so may have to pick your brains loopy at a later date.

LittleMilla I think I felt movement around 14weeks in my first pregnancy. I've heard you can feel it earlier in subsequent pregnancies but I haven't felt anything definite yet. I think I'm 12+4 ish, really struggling to keep track of my dates!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. How dire is X-Factor this evening?

Not sure weight gain in pregnancy is really all that important, or is really the right time to be concerned. Either pre pregnancy or post pregnancy are the times to lose it.

jbells · 14/11/2010 09:23

thanks loopy- ye was not bothered at all about weight gain last time hence the 4 stone id put on but that was def all not preg weight lol, it was the finding the motivation to lose it afterwards that was hard, i didnt breastfeed tho last time as i was too ill afta the birth but im planning to this time so from what people say that shud make a difference. when id lived on my own it was easy to eat healthy but with DP around that will buy a dozen crispy cremes and will sit there and i have seen him eat up to ten in a row haha its not so easy, he is def a snack fiend, he can eat all that and stay fit and muscly tho dont know where men puts it

Rollercoasteryears · 14/11/2010 11:34

Pissovski welcome!

JBells the BF should definately make a difference this time round. My DH is a bad influence food wise too - when I lived on my own, I never had chocolate or cake in the house, now it's always there and he has some every night - but he's 6'4" and skinny! No need to apologise re bringing up the weight thing, I empathise with your history, I've had a recurrent eating disorder myself in the past (age 13, 20 and 25) but luckily my last PG completely laid to rest any remaining hang ups, I found I just didn't care and did what Don't Worry did i.e. didn't weigh myself at all until nearly the end out of curiosity and found I'd put on over 3st (but with my height, I actually carried it well). I found the 3 to 4 months post birth the hardest part from a self esteem point of view, when I was BF, had enormous G cup boobs in unflattering maternity bras, was wearing unflattering feeding tops (often with dribble on), never had the time or energy to put make up on etc etc - I just felt permanently dowdy, overly busty, and unattractive! It was a bit of a mental shock, as in my pre PG incarnation, I was slim, went to the gym regularly, was generally reasonably well groomed and wore sharp suits to work every day! No wonder it took a while for our sex life to pick back up Wink

Loopy we're a strictly family too Smile - wasn't Aliona's dress minimal?! Back to our previous tv conversation, I'm still struggling to come to terms with Lucas' demise however Wink. Shame you can't have the IM you've known for years, but if you can involve her in some way, that would be great.

pissovski · 14/11/2010 14:06

Thanks all :)

Loopy- as i am overweight already i guess its not a bad thing ;)
