Sorry I keep posting and running. Have just had a little read through and its so nice to see such happy scan news.

Iheart You poor thing, what a horrible experience but what a lovely outcome. I really hope you are resting and doing ok.

mummyW we now have the same due date :) I might well end up being induced early (poss GD) so wonder if we'll be in at the same time?! I am almost set on going to the hospital beginning with H so it could happen!

Loving all the talk of cravings. Made me remember how when pg with DD. I decided on the way home from work that I just had to have a cheese toastie. so much so that I almost pulled off the motorway into tesco to by a toastie maker! I made do with cheese on toast instead :) This time I am working my way through quite a large amount of gherkins. Nice.

jobs I am a secondary school science teacher and love it! I only do 3 days a week though so that might have something to do with it :)

Loving Hotbuttereds description of a sober night out :o

It was my birthday on Saturday and we had a lovely day. DH and I took DD to a music workshop in the morning which she loved then had a pub lunch with DD, DH and my Mum. My Mum then took DD home while DH and I went to the cinema and then out for dinner. I even had one small glass of prosecco which I REALLY enjoyed and savoured - DH managed 2 pints in the time I took to drink it :) The nicest thing by far though was that DH had taught DD to sing me happy birthday (well it sounded more like 'hippy baddy doo doo'). She's been singing it ever since :o

runningmonkey · 02/11/2010 13:30

x-post thell ouch re the needle. I have notoriously difficult to get at veins so your post made me wince in sympathy. Sorry you are feeling rough.

mslucy · 02/11/2010 14:09

thell - I have those veins as well. The most important thing is to avoid students - yes they have to learn, but not on me! My arm was turned literally black and blue by a hamfisted student during my last pg - never again.

Off work today as cold has turned really evil (and I'm someone who never takes time off). I can hardly breathe and have a lot of sinus pain. Went to docs this morning - paracetamol is safe so I have necked a couple. Thought they might offer antibiotics as my sinuses are very infected but doc thought it was viral and also is reluctant to dish them out during pg.

re: C-Sections. I have had 2 - one emergency with DS1 and a planned one with DS2. I went for as close to the due date as possible with the planned one - the consultant was totally cool with it. DS2 had no breathing problems and was well and truly cooked.

I will probably have one again - my experience of trying to give birth the natural way to DS1 was so monstrous. I know this is the coward's way out and that there are extra risks associated with the C-section but at the moment it feels like the right thing to do.

HotButteredToast · 02/11/2010 14:11

Oof re: needles and blood tests. Confused Sympathy to all, methinks. I'm not a veiny creature at all and bruise very easily so am feeling more akin to a purple pin cushion of late than a normal human being. Last week I had to go for yet another test and looked away from the nurse and needle... only to find my eyes land on a chap in the cubicle opposite shrieking and wincing as his own needle went in.

Oof.

And this Thursday is GD test in the morning as well as midwife antenatal session in the arvo. I'll be looking like an extra from Trainspotting by tea time.

tiredandgrumpy · 02/11/2010 17:15

Had my nuchal scan today & huge relief to see just one in there (feeling v sick and enormous this time round). Seems to be ok, but I might have to wait up to 2 weeks to get the results from blood tests too! Is that consistent around the country, or is West Herts particularly slow?

We've agreed to tell the dc tomorrow morning though - I can't wait!

My due date is revised to May 7th - like so many other people on here! Am hoping for an elcs this time round though. Had back to back ending in emcs first time, then horrible long labour ending in ventouse in theatre (they told me they'd give me 3 pushes then go straight to cs. In the end dd was hauled out in 5 pushes). I just am not built for childbirth. dd was fairly large and I was advised by the midwives at the time that my next one should be elcs. So why now does the registrar seem to think I shouldn't have one, but should have to go for a 'natural' birth again? Am so upset as I feel I've really given labour a couple of good shots and each time was far from straightforward? I have a consultant appt lined up for 36 weeks, but am worried I might have a fight on my hands.

BizzeeBee · 02/11/2010 17:23

Hello! Is there room for another late-comer here? I am 12 weeks with DC1, and still can't quite believe it, even though I had my scan last week! I'm still in my regular clothes and haven't put on any weight (not complaining), so despite the tiredness and nausea, it's hard to believe I'm pregnant.

I'll add myself to the stats page.

Thanks for all the information - it's really helpful to see what other people at about the same stage are experiencing.

DMCWelshCakes · 02/11/2010 18:45

jbells I'm quite small (5'3, size 8-10) and DiddyDragon was VERY active. After 20 weeks I'd feel my 10 movements per day before I'd even got out of bed. Looks like this one's the same. It was bouncing about all over the place during the scan.

Meant to update my due date to 6th May. Looks like there's a few of us due that day!

cowboylover · 02/11/2010 18:57

tiredandgrumpy I am not sure about the rest of the country but in Gwent we dont get a nuchal scan and get the blood test results at the 16 week midwife appointment so lates a bit longer here. Be interesting to hear about the test of you

BizzeeBee Welcome! I am now 11+3 and looking pregnant with a little bump but just not feeling it sometimes! Looking forward to feeling movements to remind me its real Grin

jbells · 02/11/2010 19:40

evening all

cowboylover- we also dont get a nuchal scan here unless u are classed as high risk and we have the blood tests at 15 week midwife apt, strange how different areas vary so much

DMC- im also quite small 5ft1 and size 8-10 but dont seem to feel anythin till later on maybe i just dont know wot feeling im looking for early on , wish i was still due on 7th and hadnt had my dates put back :(

bizzee- hi welcome to the thread always room for one more :) wish i hadnt put on any weight still fitting in all my tops but only a couple of pairs of jeans still fit me, ive put on around 3lbs i am an obsessive weigher lol however thats down to me craving crap food like chippy dinner and burgers lol

tiredandgrumpy- glad your scan went well i am also hoping for an elcs this time, im just not sure they will even consider it :(

thell- im the same always get told i have rubbish veins and they normally have to try 3 or 4 times to get it and then sometimes the blood tickles out at snail pace i normally end up with a big lump and bruise by the end of it, seems like there is a few of us with that problem

runningmonkey- glad u had such a nice bday, cant wait till DD can sing happy birthday to me :)

just want to explain y i want a elcs even tho i dont think i will get one sorry if u think this is long winded

so started off waters broke on the 7th of may at 2am in the morning, rang hosp they told me to go in i had no contractions so they sent me home but as u can imagine cudnt sleep with waters leaking everywhere and anticipation of baby coming, morning came still nothing spent the day watching films to pass the time, then around 7pm contractions start but not regular around 10pm they get xtremely painful cant sit down feel like vomiting u know the script lol, so go up to hosp again aparantly contractions not close enuf together get sent home, go back to hosp around half eleven they do internal to see how far along i am, aparantly 3cm not enuf to leave me on labour ward but they cant send me home bcos they did internal and risk of infection
then they send me up to maternity ward and tell me DP cant go up with me as it is woman only, its around 12am and go up sobbing in pain first labour and im all alone no midwife everyone asleep and im expected to lie on a bed quiet while everyone is sleeping i wasnt happy cant stay still on bed pain is to bad so start to pace the hall, by this point i start vomiting a kind lady comes to comfor me and call midwife, again she does internal im 5 cms this is literally ten mins later, so they wheel me back to labour ward and ring DP to come bk, he comes back labour is slow i continue vomiting every fifteen mins and then afta around another 10-12 hours around 2 the nxt morning im so tired and drained and have been told by this point that DP is back to back and i have been told im still only 7-8 cms i decide for epidural

go into room have epidual relief for a couple of hours then they decide to try to turn baby round, ouch most painful thing, then get to ten cms start pushing nothing dont seem to be getting anywhere, afta another 2 hours of pushing we are prob around 5pm by now they say have a rest and we will start agen baby was fine and happy so they didnt seem to be concerned about me

consultant get called in try turning baby round again :( then consultant asked if my bladder had been drained i had only been to the toilet about 7 hours ago midwife says no he says my full baldder is causing it cafeter in lovely, then they tell me they are either going to do emcs or forceps and decide among themselves so start pushing again this time now bladder has been drained bbaby start moving down i start to rip so they give me epiostomy couple more pushes baby out finally

then i have haemorrage (sp?) lose a lot of blood they rush to sew me up

anyway think its all over but i start to have more and more pain and get sicker and sicker, go home get even worse, keep asking midwife to check me, stitches etc as i know there is something wrong, blood loss then starts to smell, midwife says womb infection prescribes antibiotics, 2 days later foul smell still there im feeling faint, shakey cant walk up the stairs without crying, cant sit down, feel completely lost as 2 wot is wrong with me, she decides to finally do inetrnal finds that a swab had been left inside me for since giving birth which was now ten days ago!

so if youve got this far my first natural birth experience was a very bad one and really not sure i can go thru anything like that again is was a really terrible time

jbells · 02/11/2010 19:40

thanku if u managed to read all that

zinnia · 02/11/2010 20:21

jbells what a dreadful time you had, no wonder you want an elcs with this one. Do you have to give birth at the same hospital or is there an alternative near you?

Thanks for asking about my dd too, she's been fine today, was clearly one of those random toddler 24 hour things thank god.

tiredandgrumpy I was told up to 2 weeks for blood test results too, though letter came within a week in the end, much sooner than I expected. Slightly ambivalent about the results mind you, but that's another story...

Welcome BizzeeBee always room for another one here!

runningmonkey that sounds like a lovely birthday.

Loopy hope you've had a better day today. I share your tendresse for Richard Armitage by the way Grin

Am feeling a bit rubbish myself as have another cold (2nd in 6 weeks. Sigh) to contend with. Paracetamol and honey & lemon just aren't the same as industrial quantities of day nurse :(. And I miss the whisky.

zinnia · 02/11/2010 20:29

ooh and I had an appt with the consultant at the hospital this morning, to make up for the one that got c*cked up by his not being able to see my baby on the scanner the other week (still Angry about that one).

Was expecting it to be the same guy as was the time/day for his clinic but instead was a lovely, young, female obstetrician. Much more cheerful experience all round, she doesn't need to see me again (have some vascular issues which was the only reason was there in the first place) and has discharged me into the care of the community midwives :)

Honestly though, everyone* is so keen for me to have a HB, even she mentioned it. I had to explain about the whole moving house/renting a flat thing again. Which in all honesty is 99% of the reason I (probably) won't do it, although there's the 1% that's too scared of the labour...

*OK, one doctor and one midwife so far

DontWorryBaby · 02/11/2010 21:27

Lol zinnia... I think that could count as 'everyone'. Maybe... Grin

I'm definitely having another hospital birth and a 'normal' (?) delivery (hopefully). DS1 was about 36hrs from first contraction to baby arriving, had paracetamol at first, nothing for nine hours as I'd gone over the 24hr allowance in 12hrs, diamorphine (which was definitely right for me as I suddenly relaxed and went from 4cm to 9cm in 2hrs) then gas & air until I was fully dilated. It was hard work but I would opt for the same again a thousand times over before I would opt for a Caesarian. The whole surgery thing freaks me out which is bizarre... I had an episiotomy and stitches galore in my lady bits but would prefer that to stitches across my tummy. Seems logical to me. Lol.

I admire you hbers... I just don't have the space or the soundproofing required and like knowing that the medical staff are close at hand if required.

jbells sounds like an awful labour. You're doing well to be so positive this time around. Hopefully, if your elcs request is turned down, you'll have a much shorter, easier labour this time. x

Welcome bizzeebee, I'm still a newbie myself!

kiwigirlinlondon · 02/11/2010 22:03

jbells - sounds like you had a horrible experience. As this is my first pregnancy I had to stop reading your post, I'm sorry! :-)

Good to hear there is a good range of birthing plans on the site. I'm a bit scared about the birth myself (especially as my Mum keeps pointing out how small I am) but have been reading about hiring a doula and think that sounds like a great idea. Has anyone done this before? Especially in London? How did it work out?

Between my DH, who is wonderful but can get a bit stressed and hates the sight of blood, and me being a bit nervous, I think I'll need someone calm in the room

DontWorryBaby · 02/11/2010 22:09

Loopy I had the undivided attention of one midwife as soon as I arrived in the delivery suite at 9cm, until DS was born 4.5 hrs later! I was led to believe that was normal but mumsnet has shown me otherwise.

cowboylover · 02/11/2010 23:26

jbells what a dreadful time you had, no wonder you want an elcs with this one. Especially when its your first I just dont know what you should do or not! Sounds so hard having to stay home for as long as possible as im sure DH will just want to get me there without the worry of the 30 mins drive before he can support me.

We have been taking about birth options and he said he knows what im like and doesnt want me to have a plan that has so much detail I cant stick to it I get disappointed with myself when I dont! His plan is go with the flow and always do whats best for me and baby so not to get my mind set on natural, drugs or C section but I really am not sure if thats realistic for me not to consider my plans before it happens! Hmm

Hi all. I am doing okay, still resting at home. Rested and bored.
Still waiting for my date to come through for my dating scan.
Hope everybody is feeling well.

thell · 03/11/2010 10:26

Loopy, I love you! You say all the stuff I haven't got the presence of mind to think through :)
Gorgeous Didy! I'd like an Earthy Rainbow Girasol - and I'll probably sell the Toddlerhawk to get a Babyhawk.
Maybe after the scan...?!

thell · 03/11/2010 10:28

BTW, not posting much right now - was so ill last night, I couldn't keep anything down all evening, had a throbbing headache and was in bed at 8.30. Better today, but still wobbly x

crazydayz · 03/11/2010 11:42

Hi all,

I know I haven't posted for ages and ages but I do read the thread every day to see how you all are doing and keep up Smile.

I thought I was being a bit of a wet blanket as my symptoms of tiredness and vomiting felt dreadful and I didn't want to whinge as it being our first I thought that everyone else was handling it better than me!

Well we had our 12 week scan yesterday and it turns out that there are actually 2 in there!!!! Shock So I wasn't being a wuss after all.

We haven't come to terms with having twins at all yet but thought I'd better share my news!
