MOved dd3 into a sleeping bag last night and she slept really well. Much easier to just lift her feed her & put her back than faffing with blankets. Most of the sleeping bags we have are still too big though so hoping this one doesn't end up full of poo!

SilverSky · 21/11/2010 17:23

n what type of sleepig bag you using? What size and what weight?

DS is quite a warm boy and he sleeps in a vest and a folded over flannelette sheet maybe two if it's chilly and that seems to do the job just fine. The only time DS kicks the sheets off is when he is stropping out eg bum change or hungry or colicky. However I am wondering if it's more being over tired than gas.

Been out and about today which has played havoc with DS' feeding routine. Mainly cos he has been sleeping tho I did wake him up as it's not good to let them go too long without. Despite HI and his mother's advice of well he can't be hungry cos he is sleeping! Remind me not to accept offers of baby sitting !!!

Hello all. DD took a bottle last night and this morning! It was a relief as last night she'd been feeding for over 2 hours and I literally had nothing more to give and she was still fussing. It also enabled DH to feed her, which he liked as most of his cuddles recently have involved DD thrashing about which isn't exactly snuggly.

I've managed to find the time to express twice today so have 90ml in the bank. I managed 60ml this afternoon and 30 just now. Is this an average amount? Those of you who've managed to express, how much do your DCs take?

Well done on the sleeping bag front Nymph- how big is your DD3 now? I can't remember how much she was at birth. I was wondering as my DD is about 7.3lbs now so I'm thinking about when I can look forward to her wearing the sleeping bag..although I'm not sure how it'll work with an Amby Nest.

Dilly my DD seems to feed the same as your DS. An eon on one side! I wonder if my flow is very slow.

Floozie I have a Kari me and my sister has sent me hers called something like Hotsling. I'll let you know what its like.

nymphadora · 21/11/2010 17:31

Silver/elsa it's an ikea one, can't remember the weight. She was 9lb 8 last mon so prob nearly 10lb now. The one I had said as long as their head can't slip through the head hole

ILoveGregoryHouse · 21/11/2010 17:32

Eek. DD did a huge projectile poo which landed all over the sofa, carpet and armchair, as well as my mum. Twas funny, she just went "ooh" afterwards.

Got baby clinic tomorrow. Hope she's regained her birth weight. DH thought she looked bigger when he got home this evening.

Elsa123 · 21/11/2010 17:56

what.. your mum went ooh or your DD?! How's your Amby nest working out?

Thanks nymph it'll be a fair while then!

nymphadora · 21/11/2010 22:07

Bollocks blocked duct again. Can't get it moving with a flannel & expressing. Will have to wait to be full when it's easier or the shower in the morning. Ears killing too. AND knees & hips. Dh says I'm a wreck :(

sam12 · 21/11/2010 22:38

elsa dd now takes 120 ml of expressed milk but she is 10lb now. when she was born she was 7lb8 and took about 60-70 which the mw said was about right so your Dd should be taking just under that. It sounds like you are doing well with the expressing. As that is all I do I am probably not a good measurement to how much you should be able to express- I've just done 300ml in one go! I'm going to have a freezer full of the stuff.

As dd has hit the 10lb mark I've just started using her sleeping bag and I agree nymph it's much easier isn't it. We only have the one so I too am hoping it doesn't get pooed on!

sam12 · 21/11/2010 22:42

Meant to say my sleeping bag said to use from 10lb and check that their head can't fit thru the whole. It's a mamas and papas one.

We had the in-laws baby sitting today to get on with decorating. The dining room is the last room that needs major work and it needs to be done before Christmas.

SilverSky · 22/11/2010 01:50

n be careful that's it's not mastitis !

SilverSky · 22/11/2010 02:01

We've just had a bum change before our feed and two more during!!! On the plus side I am getting quicker at changing him. Least at home - out and about it's still a bit of a trauma.

nymphadora · 22/11/2010 08:06

Ok not mastitis so far. Opposite nipple sore now too mainly on let down but it's looking a bit puffy so maybe weve had abadan latch. Going to baby clinic this am to see if the bf lady is about for any suggestions!

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 22/11/2010 08:36

Hello :)

Another day with a snuffly baby ( bloody cold) so I am settling down to the final 2 episodes of ashes to ashes and can't wait Grin

HermyaAndThePomBears · 22/11/2010 09:20

Nymph I hope you get sorted, if you're still getting a blocked duct. It might be worth taking some ibuprofen just to take the edge off.

Sam The first time we put DS in his, he wet it. I popped it in the wash for the next night and you guessed it, he wet it again. I'm now on the look out for another one.

Do you all put your baby in sleepsuits when you pop them in the grobags?

Oooo and good news, DS and me seem to be cracking our latch issues (knock on wood). Yesterday he finally finally started to shape his mouth properly when on the breast.

nymphadora · 22/11/2010 10:51

Seen bf lady no other advice except see dr if itdoesnyt clear in day or two

SilverSky · 22/11/2010 13:01

n unhelpful or wot!!!!! I got these green things from Sainsbugs which you can use hot or cold and they slip in your bra and you can move them round to treat diff areas of your boob.

Have you tried using comb when in shower and brushing toward the nipple.

DS sleeps in a vest with short sleeves and then a flannelette sheet on top. HV said was good to see as most babies are over dressed!!

DillyDora · 22/11/2010 13:21

nymph sorry about the blocked duct business (and the joints!) can't the baby even feed it down? I have a duct or 2 that are lumpy every time but HooverBoy manages to sort them out (before yakking up his over hasty feed all over me...nice!). Could you try another bf lady? They are not all equal in my experience...

Hermya meant to say sorry about your brother's behaviour. We still don't have the perfect latch - even the bf lady was struggling to restrain him long enough to get him on properly and then he usually just reattaches himself in the way that suits him!

OK - sleep - LO sleeps in his babygro (no vest) and a cellular blanket folded in half... could this be too much? I really struggle to get him to sleep on his back, he'd mostle like to sleep on his tum, or on my chest or at a push on his side. I'm considering swaddling at night to see if that will help him settle on his own after a feed (rather than have to fall asleep on me, when I fall asleep too...) so would just have him in a vest and ..blanket? (don't have any of those lovely sheets). Thoughts?

Also - reusable nappies... DS keeps getting a sore bott, and also I'm not crazy about him sitting about in a v wet nappy, man that boy can pee! I check about every 2 or 3 hours but poor kid, sometimes he wants to sleep! Any ideas?

ILoveGregoryHouse · 22/11/2010 13:45

nymph have you heard about "pinging" to unblock ducts? There was a thread a few months back on the bf boards and it's on kellymom. Basically it's looking for a tiny white plug on your nipple and pinging it. Sounds fun!

elsa dd did the ooh. She is taking 90 to 120 ml in ebm which dh gives her in the evening when i go to bed. Takes me 2 15 minute pumping sessions to get that.

DD has regained her birth weight. She is 3.113kg now, was 3.102 born.

DillyDora · 22/11/2010 14:01

ILGH bless DD - excellent comic timing. Also well done on regaining the birthweight! How many weeks is she? (obsessed? moi?)

Elsa DS takes about 100ml EBM and he was 7lb 8 at last weighing, he rages if he's given less than that! Hog! The bf counsellor I spoke to said it's normal to only be able to express 30 - 50ml in a session, so Sam12 I am SO envious! See...Envy? I tend to get about 50ml at 4am when DS has finished his feed on the other side (and he and DH are sleeping soundly... Hmm) and then the other 50 in the morning... Also check out the Marmet Technique here I think (!) the bf counsellor said to start with hot compresses, then do that, then use the pump.. though I don't really have time!

Elsa123 · 22/11/2010 15:21

Thanks for the info guys although I am Envy at Sam! I think my let down is very slow as DD does take forever to feed.

Compared to many of you, my DD wears quite a lot both at bedtime and during the day, but I was figuring that if I'm cold then she must be! My house down south is freezing at night and when I get back into bed after feeding her, I often lie there feeling far too cold. I never normally wear bed clothes but since being up and down in the night with DD I have taken to wearing pyjamas as having a dressing gown on then trying to feed her annoys me! She's currently wearing a vest, sleepsuit and a little dress on over the top (a gift that finally fits her) and a cardi. But then the heating isn't on. When I feel her neck she always feels comfortable and is never sweaty.
At night she wears a vest and sleepsuit and gets wrapped in a blanket.

Thanks for the info re sleeping bags Nymph. I currently have 4! All gifts from relatives. I got one in the post today from an uncle and aunt I rarely see and that is suitable from 8 lbs. I think the head hole is the right size too Grin.

I have a friend coming round tonight and she's giving me her old car seat and a breast pump which is really generous of her.

ILGH is your DD using the Amby Nest yet?

nymphadora · 22/11/2010 16:00

elsa I'm wearing pjs too

ILGH can't see antthing but it's quite deep so maybe it's not blocked near the nipple.

Thanks for the tips not feeling as sore now the lump is still there though despite dd3 eating in that side all afternoon.

Btw she wears sleepsuit & sleeping bag for bed

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 22/11/2010 16:26

Hermya/nymph/Ilgh been reading the a2A threads for clues etc so know you'll appreciate this- god the last 2 episodes were good!! And gene

I am seriously gutted it's over for me :( Grin will just have to start at the beginning again!

nymphadora · 22/11/2010 16:38

I'm leaving a big gap so I forget stuff before I watch it again

SilverSky · 22/11/2010 16:44

Dilly a folded in half blanket counts as two blankets.... tho you prob know this!

These sheets are really good and reasonable from Asda's.

We also have those glo eggs, one in our room and one in the lounge. It tends to hovver round the 20-21 degree mark and its fine. If it gets any hotter I open a window to bring the temp down.

I cant go on how I feel temp wise as I am ALWAYS cold!!!

HermyaAndThePomBears · 22/11/2010 17:51

Here's a temp and bedding guide that I found.

We have DS in a one tog sleeping bag, a sheet and a thin cellular blanket.

Seashells Oooo they were weren't they, I love Gene. If he was chatting me up in a bar, I think I would probably leave with him. Manc lion indeed!! Grin
