morning! i'm hoping we have a pattern forming...for the second night DD has fed til 2330, then up at 0345 for an hour, then up again at 0830.
nymph i know what you mean about the feeding thing, DD did want a quick feed after the bath too. she had been eyeing my breast up!

DillyDora · 16/11/2010 11:36

Morning all - HV just been - no real signs of thrush (pass the cabbage) DS has put on 100g (yay!) have to go along to see her next week for a weigh in. Erm...what's with the 'So, how was your chilhdhood?' they ask? I skimmed over the gory details and said it was fab, what else could I do?!

Silver can you fold your trews down below the scar in a teenage way? It's a bit cold for that frankly but I can't think of anything else! (And s*d MIL - better his thumb than a dummy I think)

I think DS has had mucusy poos and I haven't been on antib's so not sure what to suggest, he sucks his hands too, and when he spits up it's quite mucusy...

HV suggests we note down times for everything he does - I am so allergic to this after hospital but I'm sure it must be a good idea. Also we are persevering with putting him down in his basket for naps, I think this will mean some very sleepless nights but there you are.

Feeling rough again, think it's the change in the BP meds...

nymphadora · 16/11/2010 11:43

Silver- lay on bed with trousers folded down? That's all I could do due to the overhang

Elsa- you inspired us & dd3&i had another bath this am. She enjoyed in more this time & lay back and kicked her legs to 'swim' around the bath(with my hand under her neck) had milk before she got out again though Grin we were wondering what she will do in the swimming pool ...

shieldbug · 16/11/2010 11:48

oooh I'm catching up on mn with a baby fast asleep in my arms, smelling heavenly and just looking like the most adorable wee boy ever. life is goood Smile

It's so good to read all your questions here, so many anticipate what I would ask. Harry is currently doing well weight-wise; he's now up to 8lb 7oz, so is above his birth weight now. I was so pleased at the clinic when i heard, they laughed at me. I then asked if there was anywhere there I could feed him as he was looking v hungry, and thy looked at me as though I was bonkers. For goodness sake! Eventually they decided I could sit in one of the chairs there and feed him, so we had our first whip out of the boob in public. Fortunately that wasn't one of the times he decided to go for an hour marathon with comfort sucking. Harry's feeding pattern seems to change every day, but at the mo we have a late feed about 12-1am, then another 3-4 am and another 6/7/8 am, so it's not too bad, especially since one is ebm. As someone said, a good way to stimulate the flow is to pump for a while, rest then pump again. I find frequent breaks for a few seconds help too. I use a philips steriliser which is very quick.

So glad to hear all babies that were feeling rough are ok. I would defo call gp or hv with any worries- that's what the nhs is for. I had to make a call to the out of hours gp yesterday after Harry and I fell down the stairs. I managed to hold him up and avoided hitting his head I think. I checked him everywhere and all seemed fine, and he took a feed, but I needed to check what symptoms would mean we had a problem. Apparently, a head injury would be shown by limpness, extreme lethargy or constant vomiting. Thankfully none of the above applied so I could breathe a sigh of relief that he's ok. I'm a bit battered though!

Elsa123 · 16/11/2010 12:19

Goodness me Shield that must have been scary for you. Its something I fear and when coming downstairs in the middle of the night I grip the bannister like an old lady!

One of my dogs got under my feet yesterday and I tripped over him holding Bronwen. Fortunately I managed to right myself.

Well done Nymph! I'm glad your DD liked it. Bronwen seemed to naturally know how to float (head supported of course).

Dilly I remember reading threads a while ago where people were advised by their mws or HVs to write down when their babies did stuff and some even made up spreadsheets. I'm not sure its a distraction I could be doing with as I'm unconvinced of the usefulness of the exercise. I think we'll just fall into a pattern. We seem to be doing so anyway.

AbFabT · 16/11/2010 13:26

shield, I am paranoid about falling down the stairs with DS in my arms, poor you - glad you are both ok though.

All well here. DS feeding loads and loads, and wanting loads of cuddles, but I am going with the flow, and so what if the house is a tip! My philosophy is that he is only little, so we are happy to feed and cuddle as he requires. He hasn't slept anywhere apart from in our bed, so the Amby isn't getting any use at all.
Haven't had him weighed in a while but he looks lovely and chunky to us, so we're happy.
His smiles are coming along too - such joy for us parents.

Bit hacked off with Royal Mail: I was expecting a delivery of reusable nappies on Friday, listened out all day for a knock on the door, I did hear the letter box go - went to check it and there was the 'sorry we missed you' card - I don't think they knocked at all. So arranged redelivery for yesterday, but still nothing!

sam12 · 16/11/2010 13:29

shield that must have been scary so glad no hram was done. Our stair bannister is currently lying on the dining room floor- I am constantly nagging dh to get it put back up as our stairs are really dangerous. It will be so nice to get the house finished work kind of ground to a halt with the arrival of dd.

Elsa we have fell into a pattern but the pattern is tiring me out! Everynight between 11pm and 3am dd is wide awake and I just cannot settle her. Have exhausted all my ideas can anyone suggest anything that might break this pattern? Please help!!!!!

SilverSky · 16/11/2010 16:39

As from tonight I am going to try the hot water bottle in the Moses whilst I change and feed him. That may make the Moses more inviting.

Today we are on our fourth outfit, the first due to normal morning change, the second due to vomit (first time he as been sick since birth - I hate sick so hope it doesnt become regular!), third due to weeing whilst changing him and the fourth is currently dry and still on him. No doubt this will change though!!

My mastitis (suspected) seems to have improved. Think that may have been why DS was sick this morning cos my milk flow was more plentiful than the last couple of days. I am still hot flannelling and have cabbage in the fridge, I had a shower earlier and "hope" to have a bath later when HI gets in.

I have gone back to keeping a diary for DS, I note when he eats and soils his nappies I dont include sleeping though I probably should. Reason is cos I kept forgetting which boob he last fed from etc.

I am also going on the advice on here to feed more regularly during the day and I will see if this impacts the evening feeds.

Will try to air my incision when I can. Its in a right awkward spot isnt it!?

I am starting to feel sleepy again! Should really nap.

Can anyone tell me what a declaration is? I emailed our local registry office which is a diff town to where DS was born and they said they can register him but it will be a declaration, but I have no idea what that is!

So are all the October babies now here then?

nymphadora · 16/11/2010 16:52

It's like registering thebirth & you give all the details & sign it then they post it to the right town who sends you the BC. Don't forget the money for the long BC!

Hermya321 · 16/11/2010 17:31

(ranty ranty post) I've been to the Doctors as I've got really bad breast pain, like searing burning pain throughout my boobs.

I saw a nurse practisioner and she's given me cream for thrush. She didn't even look at DS to see if he had it. I went back in and complained and the receptionist said 'why would she look at him' and I just wanted to hit her. Plus to make matters worse she didn't even put that she'd said I had thrush on my bloody records. So essentially she's given me a tube of bloody cream and nothing else.

I've made another appointment but can't see anyone until bloody Friday and it's a male Doc, the female Doctors were all booked up for the next two weeks.

I just want to cry.

Hermya a Pharmacist might be able to help you, if you have a boots nearby it might be worth popping in and asking them to have a look in DS's mouth.

Hermya321 · 16/11/2010 17:44

I went to the pharmacist and they said they couldn't sell me anything without a Doctors say so.

I'm thinking I may just go to boots tomorrow and hope they're of more help.

Hermya321 · 16/11/2010 17:53

So even though she didn't really take a proper look at me, do I still use the cream?

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 16/11/2010 17:54

Posting and running- will be back soon but re sleeping- sleeping bags are fantastic once they get bigger- really improved ds's nights. I think we can use them pretty soon? I didnt take him out for a feed sonthere was no temp change :)

nymphadora · 16/11/2010 18:06

10pm I saw for sleeping bags. Haven't used them before

Xavielli · 16/11/2010 18:21

Sleeping bags are great. I've got a 0-4 months one from H&M, 1.5tog and DS2 sleeps loads better in it.

Hermya321 · 16/11/2010 18:56

We're using sleeping bags, they're brilliant as DS doesn't get cold when he feeds.

Had a migraine today so PIL's have babysat ds and Sophie all day, I havent seen them since 11am and they wont be home till 9.30pm. I have missed them but spent the day when i felt better cleaning and making the beds fresh and doing the stuff that having 2 under 3's have been neglected. I want them back now though. :)

SilverSky · 16/11/2010 19:27

H Call the NCT Breastfeeding Helpline 0300 330 0771. I called them yesterday and they were great.

From what age can you use sleeping bags and where to get from?

ILoveGregoryHouse · 16/11/2010 20:06

silver I think you can use sleeping bags from 8lb now. They used to do newborn but seem to have stopped them. Grobag do the biggest range and i think they are the best although they are the priciest. Their website is called Bumpto3. John Lewis sell them too, along with their own brand and kiddicare often have special offers.

Hermya that's really slack on the thrush front. Kellymom have good articles on thrush. I'd get the pharmacist at Boots to look in the mouth to check, even if there's nothing they can give you.

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 16/11/2010 20:08

grobags are the expensive ones, but you can get them everywhere (supermarkets, jojomaman, h and m) and they are fab :)

We are fine, growthspurt passed thank goodness. Been to a new local baby group today-nice gang of mums so hope I make some friends - still feel like I've only just moved here and it will be a year before I know it!!

DillyDora · 16/11/2010 21:38

Yeah, Hermya I think you need different types of thrush treatment depending where the pain is in your boobs so you really need someone to listen to you!! Sorry about the GPs. It is possible for you to have it without DS showing symptoms according to the HV today (when she wasn't being a mentaller about people's childhoods...)

Elsa thanks for being the voice of reason once again, I don't think I like all this writing down ... makes DS seem like a school project!

I think the sleeping bag thing depends on their weight.

Toby is up 100g btw, 7lb 8 or 3.4 kg!
xx

SilverSky · 16/11/2010 21:57

Ds has a small hair in his eye - how to remove? Anyone??

sam12 · 17/11/2010 00:07

The sleeping bag I've got says 10lb. I'm hoping after being weighed tomorrow I will be able to use it.

Hope you got the hair out silver.
Here's hoping for some sleep tonight

floozietoozie · 17/11/2010 05:52

Had dd weighed today - put on nine oz on a week! Now weighs 6lb 8oz. It's a shame it's not all breast milk but if the high calorie stuff is helping then fine.

Hermya, afaik you can buy Daktarin from chemists to treat oral thrush without a prescription.

Question - when you've finished feeding, if you squeeze your breast are you still able to squirt a jet of milk out, as a opposed to just getting a drop?
