Dilly am glad you mentioned about the going in one end and coming stright out of the other- Georgia is the same and I was getting worried.

Silver I am having the same with nappies at the moment. FIL bought me a huge stock and I have used all the pampers and now using these eco ones which feel really hard and not at all comfy and the poo either comes out of the leg or up the back! I will get round to using reusable ones one day.

Sea I am sure you are far from a disgrace of a parent and everyone reaches their breaking point some times. Hope that the rest of the day has been less stressful for you.

First time mum question here- dd has got cold. Should I do anything? Do I need to take her to the doctors? Is there anything I can be doing to maker her feel better? Sorry if I sound really thick

Tyson86 · 11/11/2010 18:50

sam I have same prob as my dd has a cold too, when my ds was 3 weeks old he had an op and was allowed calpol in a syringe, maybe ask your HV if your dd can have some and how much :)

Iam currently organising a christening for dd and ds, have bought dd a christening gown as my brothers has gone missing, and need to get ds a suit. The church i want to get them christened in is C of E and the local church near me. Dh is C of E. I dont know what else im meant to do though? Is the norm to do a buffet tea or something for the family that have travelled or to do nothing, getting confused now so if anyone can help i'd be grateful, i hate posting on the normal boards if i dont have to Grin

sam12 · 11/11/2010 18:58

Thanks Tyson I will ask. Every christening I have been to there has been a 'do' afterwards. Usually a buffet at a church or community hall or a pub. Though there is no reason you couldn't 'do' it at your house if you've got the space/ can be bothered

DillyDora · 11/11/2010 19:06

sam12 a-ha! I think ds has a bit of a cold & reckon this affects digestion. Also Mum reckons it's normal for them to eat and poop at the same time - nice!

sam12 · 11/11/2010 19:17

Oo thanks dilly. Very nice! Really miss having my mum to ask these little things. So will be asking a lot on here I'm afraid! My mil, despite having 4 kids, seems clueless!

nymphadora · 11/11/2010 19:42

We have a cold too , on it's way anyway. My ears seems to be spreading into my throat & dd3 sneezing a lot of milk today. She's also a bit sleepy & grouchy today

AbFabT · 11/11/2010 23:45

Hope those with colds/baby colds get better soon.

DS and I are ticking along nicely! He's getting more and more characterful by the minute! Much more alert, looking around a lot, oh, it's lovely!
His skull seems to be coming together, though he's got a little dent that seems new to me, should I be concerned?

SilverSky · 12/11/2010 02:52

Thanks all. Guess with nappies it's trial and error. I am also checking they are on properly. Just had another complete nappy and outfit change. TBF it was a very wet nappy.

One of my NCT pals who gave birth 2 days before me completely has her figure back. Honestly you would never know she had been pregnant. So unfair. I, in comparison still have a mini bump and I am still as wide as a house. I def want to lose this baby baggage. Not overnight (tho if that did happen I would not complain in the slightest) but def before I go back to work.

We are also growing out of clothes. Some we have not even worn! I think my tumble drying them had soemthing to do with that. Will have to air dry from now on or review the setting!

Hope everyone has a good day. Tis Friday after all!

SilverSky · 12/11/2010 02:54

ab give your HV a buzz if worried. I would.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 12/11/2010 05:58

Got DD in her reusables now. Mostly sized ones as she's still so little. They are working nicely.

She's feeding like a champ but I have nipple shields. Will probably use them for the duration. I found a website that quoted a recent study that prolonged use does not affect weight gain (and so supply). I certainly have enough to feed quads right now. We'll see.

She also slept for an hour in the amby. We're making progress.

My mum and dad have been wonderful looking after the boys. The c-section is a shock after the three normal deliveries, I underestimated quite how "disabled" it would make me so I really appreciate having so much help.

Abfab they sometimes get a dent toward the front if a little dehydrated. Check it out with the hv. DS1 always seemed to have a wee dent though and he was fine.

sam' try some saline drops for the cold and tilt the head end of cot.

nymphadora · 12/11/2010 07:13

Silver- I'm having major trouble with trousers as I can't get them over the ridge above my scar. They then press on the internal bruising :( I have still been wearing my mat ones but they fall down now. I've just bought some old lady stretchy trousers from M&s as we are going out for my birthday on Sun and all three dds have new dresses to wear.also had to buy bigger tops for my huge boobs. Rest of me is almost normal though

SilverSky · 12/11/2010 08:42

Another bum change and another outfit change!!! Maybe it is me! Don't see how though as the nappy is v snug round legs etc and can't get it any higher.

Greg after having a shock c section, in that I never imagined I would have one, I am struggling. Find I get tired v quickly. The slightest thing and I feel it pull internally.

nymph knickers are a pain as most of mine sit on the incision. Been advised to wear a sani pad along the top to protect it. We are off to see family tomorrow which is nice but I have S.F.A. to wear and I am bf'inf and have no nursing tops. I am finding it easier to lob boob out for the world to see as being discreet is more of a faff!

Can I also ask why are men so fecking useless! Last night was up feeding the boy. Put him to bed and noticed he was breathing heavily and making a lot of noises. Usually he is a bit vocal and when feeding can be a bit wheezy etc and if he has a face full of boob he sounds like he is really puffing. So I asked HI what he thought and he gives me the standard "I don't know" which helps no one. I didn't know whether to phone the hossie or NHS direct or what. In the end I was up til gone 4am watching him as he wasn't going off to sleep or crying as normal but lying there grumbling and breathing heavy. In the end I looked it up on the Internet. Apparently heavy breathing is common. If it's more than 60/70 breaths a min you need to get assistance but if not just hold them upright so any mucus/excess milk can drain. I wondered if he was getting a cold. All in all was stressful and when I woke up this am he was still asleep and got HI to check he was ok!

This baby care is v v v stressful ain't it! ESP as silly o'clock when you want someone else's opinion and they are about as useful as a chocolate teapot!!

SilverSky · 12/11/2010 08:44

n how rude of me!!! Happy Birthday for Sunday! may you be thoroughly spoilt rotten.

Hermya321 · 12/11/2010 09:01

Morning people!!!

How are we all this blustery Friday? We seem to be plodding along quite well here. I still have a few pains nursing, but it is no where as bad as it was. We're off the AB now and hopefully that will have sorted everything. I've started to put DS in my stack of resuables, so far we've discovered two brands that leak on him. The ironic thing is that these are the sized ones I got for this teeny stage. I put one of my birth to potty ones on him and quel surprise, no leaks whatsoever.

Quick question, during the night when breastfeeding does anyone get sort of an itchy pain when nursing? I get these sometimes at three o'clock in the morning and all I want to is either get DS off the breast or itch. I never get them at any other time. It's all very odd.

Silver Yeah it is very stressful isn't it, if you are concerned could you elevate his cot/basket/crib so he's slightly upright? Also what brand of nappies are you using?

ILGH I didn't realise you had four children, gosh I don't know how you do it. My friend has five children and anytime I spend with her is always accompanied by a sense of awe as I watch her juggle all their separate schedules. The same is true when I see my friend who has a set of very bositrous twins. I don't think you really realise as a non parent how busy you can be with a small child until you actually have one. Sorry this is rather rambly, the point is that I'm very impressed.

Abfab Glad to hear you're doing well.

Tyson As Dilly said, there is normally a bit of a do afterwards. Nothing too fancy, most of the ones I've been to have been sandwiches in a pub where all the adults have ready access to a bar where they can wet the babies head.

H mega stressful. ESP as I have just read in the NHS book that if I notice anything unusual like that to call the GP/A&E. Now I feel bad. And I have just torn strips off HI and cried in frustration that it's not fair to leave all decisions to me and the lack of support (eg he went back to sleep whilst I was worried sick). Will try and find something to lift the head end of his basket slightly as that would help like you say.

Also v hard to pinpoint what noise is a grunt!!

We are using NatureCare which were fab to start with Size 1 now leaking. Baby is still in weight range for them. Then tried Huggies newborn organic cotton size 1. Again rubbish. Really bad.

nymphadora · 12/11/2010 09:50

silver I'm still on giant knickers but weaning myself off. Doesn't hurt on the scar but a line going across above it so knickers on the scar are fine

sam12 · 12/11/2010 10:28

Just a quick un as I was just having a quick read and the brand of nappies you mention silver rang a bell so went to have a quick look and sure enough they are the same ones that I wrote about yesterday ( I just couldn't remember the name then) they are terrible! Dd ended up with poo all over her tummy last night! so it's not you it's them! We had no problems with other brands. And yeh it is stressful and my dh is the same with the standard I don't know. Anyway gotta run

Elsa123 · 12/11/2010 12:38

Morning everyone. ILGH ref the Amby nest, it does seem to tip backwards so DD's head is lower than her body, so we counteact it with a hardback book under the mattress at the foot end. It works well. for sleep, we also swaddle DD but leave her arms out and she lies in a snuggle thing too.

Hermya I too have the tommy tippee slow flow bottles, but they flow too fast. I haven't expressed all week, so I'll try again when i can fit it in. Thank you for the lying down links. Unfortunately I can't seem to get them to work for me. I'm happy with the current arrangements asfeeds take so long. I am getting quite used to early morning tv!

DD has started to wake as regular as clockwork for 4 hourly or less feeds, so last night I did not set my alarm. As a result, she went for 7 hours without a feed! I woke up in a panic at 4 am and she was still fast asleep. I really struggled to wake her, then she only fed for 20 mins and slept for the next 4.5 hours straight. I reckon its because she fed a lot in the day yesterday.

On the nappy discussion, I'm using pampers at the moment and they are really good although there is still the odd up the back or down the leg incident. I have read reviews singing the praises of Aldi own nappies, so I might try those next.

Ooh Hermya yes to the itchy pain! I was finding any fabric touching the underside of my breast painful. Just one evening of spring greens in my bra sorted it. They felt lovely and cold straight from the fridge.

Bronwen was 4 weeks old yesterday and had a weigh in. She's sticking nicely to her 2nd centile and now weighs 6lb 14! almost 1.5 lbs gain which is great. I had a feeling she weighed around the 7lb mark.

sorry for lack of name checks am one handed and feeding. xx

floozietoozie · 12/11/2010 12:57

Silver DP was exactly the same with ds. I worried about everything and he was unconcerned at most things. Mostly, I have to say with the benefit of hindsight, rightly. It still drove me mad. Doesn't help at the time and if you are ever really concerned, do seek advice. My instincts when something was actually wrong enough for me to consult the medics were usually right.

It is a hell of a shock having a baby. You don't appreciate the overwhelming commitment until it happens to you - this is definitely a GOOD THING!!! Otherwise many would opt not to sprog, not realising th payoff in overwhelming love that comes with it.

Tyson86 · 12/11/2010 13:21

Hermya Loving the idea of the pub thing.

We are trying to have the christening at the chapel where all my family, mum included and grandparents were christened but as grandparents have alot to do with the chapel and have not spoke to us in 5 years dont know if that can happen. We have tried on numerous occasions to make up but havent got anywhere. Waiting for minister to call back :)

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 12/11/2010 15:09

Hello :)

Having a better day today thank goodness. Been out with them both and survived. Dd not keen on sleeping during the day but went 6-1-5 last night-can't believe it. I woke her at 1 as I was getting worried Hmm

Got my Sis coming this weekend, can't wait to see her, Ds loves her and she hasn't seen dd since the day if her birth which was 5 weeks ago now!!!

My little fatty is in size 2 nappies! She seems to be reducing the number of pokes(it was every feed) so now we are getting some explosive ones-considered taking a pair of scissors tomlast nights baby gro but managed to get it off without shit in her hair!

Good to hear all your news :)

SilverSky · 12/11/2010 16:00

Well I sought advice and we are at the hossie. Had chest xray. Waiting for results and transfer to paed ward at another hossie for 24hr obs. All in all NIGHTMARE. Hoping i am over reacting and all is ok.

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 12/11/2010 16:08
