Hello all! Had my mother here this week, it has been a good way to get a bit more sleep but she wants to chat all the time, its harder work than the baby!

Silver I really hope everything is ok, thinking of you

My baby is such a greedy baby.he weighs 12lb7 already ( 4 weeks old!). I went to baby group this week for the first time and it was so funny seeing him next to other babies the same size. Not sure how we've managed it as neither dh nor I are tall.having been nervous about going to baby groups I am so glad I went, met loads of lovely people and it is nice to know some local people with babies the same age.

Getting our first smiles now, its soooo lovely!

Hermya321 · 12/11/2010 19:54

Silver I really hope everything is ok, I'm thinking of you.

Tired Bless your Mum, it can sometimes be a mixed blessing can't it. Wow on baby front though.

DS was seen by the health visitor today and he's up to 9lbs already Grin. I actually feel quite proud that my milk has played a part in his weight gain. He is also a very big flirt, he has his first major grin and he gave it to the health visitor Hmm. What did I get, I got a frown and a demand for food.

I'll bet you anything that come Sunday he'll see all the more mature ladies at church and will be charming their socks off.

silver hope everything's ok.

Lovely to hear about these fine fat babies... I am trying to get Toby up to 7lb Wink

nymphadora · 12/11/2010 20:31

Hope you are ok silver

hermya I think that's one of the best things about breastfeeding , I used to go to weigh insmuch more than I needed because I liked the praise Blush

floozietoozie · 12/11/2010 21:34

Silver thinking of you and hoping nothing is seriously wrong. Had to have ds admitted to hospital once with breathing probs an he was treated for suspected pneumonia but I don't think they were sure what it was. He was fine within a short time. Fingers crossed for you, hospitals are hell with children.

dilly I'm hoping dd will be over 6lb next weighing... She's having her fat juice now so should be but seems not to be bfing so well..... Is this the slippery slope? Feeding ins and outs are doing my head in.

Elsa123 · 12/11/2010 21:48

Thinking of you Silver.

Aren't you lucky to get a grin so early Hermya I'm jealous! DD has kind of smiled at DH after I'd grinned at her all day!

Hermya321 · 13/11/2010 09:57

Elsa I know, I totally wasn't expecting it either. His name does mean happy so he's living up to it early. It's typical though isn't it, you do all the running around and you carried them for nine months and it's someone else who gets the first smile. Hmm

Nymph I don't blame you, I think I may be the same.

Is anyone else finding it really really hard to wake up in the middle of the night. I feel like I have to be dragged out of sleep by a truck. DH keeps complaining that it's really hard to wake me up. I'm blaming the hormones.

Silver hope all turns out to be fine. Thinking of you.

Well done to all with weight gains. Harry is almost up to his birth weight now (at just over 2 weeks) so I'm pretty pleased with that. He's also feeding off the breast every feed now except when I choose to express, which is amazing, considering at one point the mws were basically telling me it was unlikely he would ever bf. floozie Hope Zazie is gaining weight ok.

hermya I have been feeling like a bad Mum because I am finding it too easy to sleep through his cries. Eventually I wake up, but sometimes dh has to rouse me. I suppose eventually I'll get used to it. I have to confess, I'm cheating a bit by expressing for one of the night time feeds, then it's much quicker. Since he often feeds for 50 mins at a time in the wee small hours, I need one easy feed. It also means that if I struggle too much with getting up, dh can feed him. It's all a cunning plan!

tired can't wait for the first smile. We've had windy smiles, but no proper ones yet. abfab I love the way that Harry is getting more and more responsive every day. It's really good to hear how Maverick and the other older babies are progressing and being able to look forward to Harry managing those things.

Elsa123 · 13/11/2010 17:29

Hermya I know what you mean about sleeping the sleep of the dead! I do wake up when Bronwen does, but I have manged to sleep through my DH's seriously loud alarm clock and on Thursday night I slept well in the gales but my DH had to move to the other side of the house as the south westerly wind was driving him nuts!

Bronwen can sleep through anything too, including the smoke alarm the other day when I burnt something and the alarm was very shrieky!

Shieldbug I'm pleased Harry is getting there with the weight. I would like to express too, and have once, but I really don't feel like I have the time and energy to do it right now!

SilverSky · 13/11/2010 19:38

Hi all. Thank you for all the thoughts. We were released last night and did not need to be transferred as the xray, bloods, urine and obs were normal. They diagnosed upper resp Infection and gave me some Saline drops for his snozz and already his breathing sounds better ESP when he is feeding.

Never been so scared and I felt a bit of a fraud but something wasn't quite right and I am glad I got it checked out. I have never been processed so quickly thru a&e!! I am still keeping an eye on the little guy but I am not freaking out so much.

When do you think is a good time to start expressing and how did you sterilise your pump? The reason I ask is cos I have been invited to a work lunch for Xmas and if I go I need to be able to leave grub for the baby. Half of me thinks perhaps I won't go cos I can't be arsed with the hassle which is really not the attitude.

Hope honeymoo won't mind but she has laid her baby! Am sure she will be posting in due course. Once she has taken a break from gazing at her newborn!!

SilverSky · 13/11/2010 19:40

Forgot to say (what's new - memory of goldfish) that is great to hear the weeny ones are getting podgier! The other weenies who are not quite there yet stick with it. Easier said than done I know.

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 13/11/2010 20:26

Silver sky-fantastic news!!

The nhs is fab when you need it- they wouldn't muck around, hence all the scary tests (been there withy Ds, really wasnthe scariest time of my life) thank goodness it was all ok-I bet you have been snuggled on the sofa and not let go since you got home :)

Congrats honeymoo of you are checking the thread!

Hermya321 · 13/11/2010 20:39

Brilliant news Silver I'm so pleased that your LO is ok.

Honeymoo Congratulations!!! I hope everything went well.

Shield Great news about Harrys weight gain and about the BF. Just shows really doesn't it, you can never say never can you.

Floozie It is a bit of a minefield isn't it. I hope your dd will be over 6lbs next time.

floozietoozie · 13/11/2010 22:49

Silver that a big relief for you. So glad. They're good at scaring us these little folk!

Congratulations Honeymoo!

Seashells I love reading your posts cos you have all the same iPhone errors that I do!

Nymph happy birthday for tomorrow.

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 14/11/2010 01:20

Grin floozie! I spot fellow iPhone owners all over mn!

My worse is missing space and getting n or m instead. Makes me look completely illiterate (what I write does too as usually feeding so one handed and distracted!)

Hope all is well with you!

SilverSky · 14/11/2010 07:05

Can I ask y'all about clothing and changing ? Do you change your babies into a frEsh vest/gro at night ? Do you bath every night? Do you change them again in the morning after they have been frEshened up?

I am sure i run the risk of sounding like a bad mum for even asking!!

nymphadora · 14/11/2010 08:28

Ditto seashells & floozie Blush

Good news silver We bath dd3 most nights as something to keep her awake longer more than a get clean exercise. We then do massage and clean sleepsuit with hands in(saving those for night now). Don't always do a vest as she gets v warm.Usually new one in am as there is milk dribbles from the night.

Hermya321 · 14/11/2010 09:32

Silver It very much depends on how lazy I'm feeling, if the babygrow hasn't been sicked up on I'll generally leave it on. But he does get a new one in the mornings. Bath time is done every two days at the moment or whenever we get a poonami.

OP posts:
Xavielli · 14/11/2010 10:39

I change clothes every morning or if puked/pooped on. Not especially for bed.

DS2 has only had one bath but gets a squadie wash every morning.

Finn has a tongue tie which we are waiting to be refered for. It sounds strange but I'm so glad there is a reason for his lack of weight gain that isn't something I could be doing differently and can be quickly and easily fixed. Having to express after every feed and top him up. Think I've finally found the knack of the breastpump. Have to pump for 10 secs then rest for 20 to allow the milk to flow down. Just a tip incase anyone else was getting as frustrated as me!

Hermya321 · 14/11/2010 11:24

Xav I'm so pleased that you're getting sorted with things now.

OP posts:
SilverSky · 14/11/2010 12:51

Squaddie wash??

nymphadora · 14/11/2010 13:49

Dd3 having sicky day. Have one pair of trousers left & am going out later ...

Elsa123 · 14/11/2010 13:50

A squaddie wash is actually just a spray of deoderant Grin... however I am exactly the same as Xav. Bron's only had a couple of baths and wasn't happy either time although the first time I think it was because I was rubbish at it. So she has a strip wash every morning and a fresh vest and babygro each morning. She sleeps in the same stuff she's been wearing in the day apart from her jumper or cardie gets removed. She's currently swaddled with an extra pair of mittens on, a hat and an extra blanket as its a bit chilly here and apparently teeny babies need an extra layer than bigger newborns.

Silver I am so pleased everything worked out of for you and you were right to take him in. x x Oh and no you don't sound like a bad mum, I was feeling bad for not having the time for bathing!

Xavielli · 14/11/2010 14:38

Squaddie wash - eyes, pits and bits :o

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 14/11/2010 14:55

I didn't bath her for ages as she had a cold, now a couple of times a week, but as her skin is dry I'm trying not to over do it. Generally gets topped and tailed. Ds gets squaddie washed (I like that phrase) and again bathed a couple of times a week as his excema gets worse if indent too much- wenhave really hard water here!
