don'tstop I'm finding it all interesting! Gossip for my little world!

Forgot to say before that I read a book to dd3 today. We were tidying the book shelves & she was interested so read her ' monkey puzzle'( Julia Donaldson) and the elephant picture got a huge smile! As did the curtain pole later on ...

DillyDora · 09/11/2010 21:05

Sam I don't think you'd get flamed here. We have to do what we have to do and as long as we're feeding our babies and not leaving them in a cupboard Wink I do think that we can feel it's our fault if BFing (or indeed anything else) doesn't go well....horrible feeling.

Nymph lol at the curtain pole...Toby's 3 weeks, and I can't wait for smiles! We only get 'wind' smiles at the moment.

silver my wound healed really quickly, sorry yours is giving you trouble. It's still sore kind of underneath though and if I go for a walk it kind of pulls, not so nice. Nymph is right about the rest! In hospital they kept saying to me very slowly and clearly that I had had a major operation so REST!

Tyson86 · 09/11/2010 21:40

Health visitor was meant to come today for Sophie's last check up and turned up early so i missed her, got to wait till next tuesday now. Which is annoying. Also I am still in agony, my leg and back hurt, 5 weeks now, I went to the emergency doc and she said it was because of a UTI, i dont get how that is poss, and I only have 1 day of antibiotics left and my pain is worse not beter, the pain is no where near my kidney btw.
Sorry for rambling again, I couldnt sit down earlier as it hurt to much, could i have torn a ligament or something when i gave birth? Timing seems strange as it started a couple of days after giving birth.

sam12 · 09/11/2010 21:54

Hi all.
Shield things sound a lot more positive with the bf am glad I could help reassure you and really pleased for you that things are going better.

Big congrats cheeky

silver I am with you on that learning curve

sam I agree with you on the ff. I was ff myself and here I am 30 odd years later- so it couldn't have done me too much harm! When i couldn't bf dd, however, I made the decision to express for lots of reasons- so far it is working for us but am keeping an open mind about the future. Hope that things are looking more positive for you since you posted floozie

Dd 4 weeks today and weighed in at 9lb 7 which means she has gained almost 2lb since birth so can't complain there. However we did have a bad night I thought the reversal of day and night would have worked by now and I was hoping to have a routine by now. Was that totally unrealistic? Or is it do-able?

sam12 · 09/11/2010 21:56

x posted Tyson that doesn't sound good at all- I'd go back to the drs and get a second opinion. Looking aftyer a newborn is hard enough without being in pain

floozietoozie · 10/11/2010 03:03

dontstop this is getting more remarkable by the minute. Yes, I was in scbu in Jan 07! I'm dying to know who you are now. I didn't go in the end either today as I had to take dd to hospital foe a check as the HV got our appt brought forward a few weeks. He was lovely and v reassuring actually. The HV had already suggested getibg some high calorie milk for her on prescription which he was happy with so she will have that twice a day or so rather than ordinary formula. I feel a lot better. She is just over birth weight now. T

Thanks for your support esp SamB for your story. It isdifferent having a prem. They are starting from a much lower base with weight/energy to begun with and unforunately I'm not someone who makes lots of milk it seems and she has not been extracting the hind milk, clearly. I think my physiology may play a part too particularly my right boob as I have a large nipple but no areola much so it's difficult to get a good latch for a tiny mouth. I think sometimes we forget that nature doesn't always get it right and in the good old days when everyone bf there were babies that didn't thrive, and died. We are lucky to have safe options now. I agree that formula whilst not the ideal is not the work of the devil. It nurtured my son and he's now the tallest child in his peer group!

floozietoozie · 10/11/2010 03:11

Tyson that sounds bad. It could be a persistent uti maybe that needs different abs? Def go back for another opinion. They shoujd surely be able to test if that Is the case. Hope you get it resolved.

Hermya321 · 10/11/2010 08:11

Tyson Ow!! I hope you get sorted soon.

Does anyone else wake up with engorged breasts? I'm just wondering as I keep eaking up with them, they do fade and I've looked for blocked ducts and everything seems to be flowing. My poor Ds can attest to that, he got covered in it last night. Twas funny actually.

OP posts:
nymphadora · 10/11/2010 08:41

Tyson ow get second opinion!

floozie nice that you are sounding more positive & dr sounds sensible.

hermya y y y to the engorged thing. Breast fill up overnight.

Dd3 went 4 1/2 hours last night then 4 hours. I feel vaguely human today Grin

DillyDora · 10/11/2010 10:42

nice one floozie sounding better!

hermya o yes - makes morning feeds agony & ecstasy!!!

tyson~ hope you get sorted out soon!

nymph nice sleep! I got 4 hrs as DH did an ebm feed (I really can only express about 100ml a day tho :0( that doesn't seem much....)

Tyson86 · 10/11/2010 11:48

Thank you all for the posts, I went back to the GP today and he says I have Sciatica brought on by the pregnancy due to everything softening for labour, it will take 6-8 weeks till it repairs it self and all I can do is take paracetamol and ibuprofen but at least I know it will go eventually. I thought I'd got away with labour to easily Grin

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 10/11/2010 12:20

Thank goodness you got second opinion Tyson! I have been meaning to post it sounded neuromuscular not uti! Glad you got a sensible answer!

SamanthaB123 · 10/11/2010 14:41

Oh God... Ruby and I both have thrush agsin. Second time in three weeks. She hates the medication and I have cream that has to be washed off before every feed. I makes it difficult to feed to feed outside of the house and disrupts nightime feeds too. It's not very ptactical as we are having a growth spurt and feeding every two hours at the moment. Hmmmpphhh.

Hermya321 · 10/11/2010 16:28

Sam Oh you poor thing, that must be so so annoying.

Tyson I'm glad you got a second opinion.

Nymph Nice sleep, I bet that was lovely.

Dilly Thats about two and a half oz isn't it. According to the formula feeding guidelines thats one bottle feed.

Thanks for replies about being engorged, I was getting a bit worried that I was getting blocked ducts again. But now I know. Smile

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 10/11/2010 16:59

Hineveryine, sorry I've not Bren posting much other than random thoughts-wenhave finally been spreading feeds out so I am not spending all day on mn (just half Wink)

We are doing ok, had hv and dd has only put 3 Oz on in a week, but given her being I'll etc I'm not too concerned.

I'm finding it really differcult with a very jealous (and ill) toddler- he is kicking dd's head whilst we feed, throwing toys, trashing the house etc. He has been better today so really hoping it gets better as he feels ok and it's not every 2 hours. Been tough to be annoyed with him, when you know he just doesn't understand his emotions.

Hermya-I'm the same: ow they are lime jordan's in am

Sam- poor you. :( really hope it gets better soon.

Floozie/don't stop - it's a funny old small world isn't it! Floozie I really hope things get easier for you. The difference between dd and Ds (4wks gestation) has been really obvious in terms of feeding and sleep, so i can only begin to imagine the challenges you have had. Hugs, you sound like you are doing fab to be.

Nymph-lol at the curtain pole. Just shows you don't need to spend £50 on a black and white mobile!! Dd is obsessed with a particular painting and frame in the living room-she coos at it from her cot!

Right, run out of time off to make dinner. Sorry to anyone I've missed! X

ILoveGregoryHouse · 10/11/2010 17:14

Elsa and other amby nest fans. How does your baby look in the nest? Dd doesn't look like her head is raised enough. How do you position baby? High to ward the head end?

As you may gather from that neuroticism, I am home with dd. Shattered as she feeds what feels like 24 hours a day. Just as well I had that c section and am still in bed most of the time. But she's asleep on daddy now so am about to get my head down for an hour.

nymphadora · 10/11/2010 18:29

Dd3 also likes a wall and a window! All had loads of smiles today been lovely.she has this new idea I should sit with a boob out for her to stare at too, will sit for ages not feeding just staring & has a strop when I put it away Confused

New bra doesn't cope with v full boobs , just struggled to release oneBlush

Hermya321 · 10/11/2010 21:03

Nymph DS is a bit similar to DD3, he has recently started to hug my boobs at the end of a feed and gets a bit stroppy if I put it away. Grin at the curtain pole, DS likes his Dads DVDs. He is his Fathers son Smile.

ILGH I hope you get some kip.

We were out in town today, I really can't control my pram I keep careening into things and people, it is quite embarassing. I'm also starting to feel the sleep deprivation as well, I went shopping in Asda the other day and after wondering around in a daze I managed to leave my cash card in the self service machine. Luckily I realised and raced back in to find a lovely Asda staff member stood holding it. The excuse 'I have a two week old baby' worked very well.

SamanthaB123 · 10/11/2010 22:52

Aaaarrrggghhh!!! The thrush cream for my poor nipples says that it must not be consumed orally and if it is to seek medical attention immediately. Surely it's a bit of a risk putting it on a part of my body that Ruby sucks ten times a day? What happens if I don't wash it off properly? Back to the doctors tomorrow then.

One day I will less sleep deprived and will be able to read and comment on everyone else. As it is DH is in Germany and Ruby feeds every two hours. I never have time to fire up my laptop so always post while feeding on my phone. Sorry, I really hope that you are all doing brilliantly (I'm sure you are) and all your babies all sleep through the night Grin.

SilverSky · 11/11/2010 10:19

Hi all,

Finally found a min to catch up.

Brain to frazzled to remember any details. Hope you are all doing ok and those not doing ok have a better day today.

We went to the hossie yday for little man's hearing test which he passed. Then we went shopping but didn't get half of what we wanted as I was shattered. I will resort to getting the rest online I think!

Anyone else have leaky nappies? We are going through clothes and bed linen at a real rate. This is a recent issue. Any ideas!? We were using NatureCare which were fine. We ran out and had some Huggies we'd been given but they were useless. Back to NatureCare but in the night he and his bed were wet and this morning again but thus time pooey. Could it be I am not putting on right or does he need bigger size? Any advice welcome as it's driving me and him insane!!!

SilverSky · 11/11/2010 10:22

Oh and my incisionis ok. Just need to air it more and not do too much as too much movement disturbs it. The smell is due to it getting hot! Nice!!

nymphadora · 11/11/2010 10:31

No nappy probs here. We have been using nature/boots own/asda own at night. We are still using first size & she will be 9lb+ now if thats any help!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 11/11/2010 11:07

Make sure you are using correct size to weight, that the top is tight enough and that the skirt bit is raised up and on the outside of vital bits.

I have absolutely lost it thus morning with an overtired toddler and a little one that refuses to sleep anywhere other than on me. I've been a fucking disgrace of a parent today and only on mnto try to calm down :( the sooner everyone is a couple of months older the better :(

DillyDora · 11/11/2010 17:31

seashells sorry to hear it all got a bit much - DS only sleeps on us, and if I had a toddler to deal with too I'd have lost it too. You're not a disgrace.

Tyson and silver glad you're basically ok.

LOL at your DD Nymph DS is forming an increasingly passionate relationship with my boobs involving hugging, 'talking', squishing his face into it and...unfortunately... stretching and pulling the nipple - oooowwwww!

SamB123 so sorry about the thrush - argh!

Toby pooed round the sides of a nature nappy today but that is the first ever leak and it was a mighty poo - his digestion has gone up the creek recently - he feeds like a looney then spits up, and sometimes is like tiny tears - it goes in one end and just pours out the other! Scaring the life out of me but DH and the HV say it's ok....

uh oh...nappy change required
hello to all!!!

Tyson86 · 11/11/2010 17:39

seashells sorry to hear you have had a rough day, i also have a poorly toddler and sophie is permanently hungry so completely understand where your coming from. Im currently hiding on mn while dh sorts dinner Grin Hope your feeling less stressed soon x
