Hi everyone!

Congratulations Dilly ! Shock at labour length what a relief that's over! I hope the wt gain starts picking up with the bfing.

Xav- wow that's quick!

We are doing well, gorgeous lo is a fatty - 98 percentile height and wt, already 10lbs 13ozs last week, can't believe it. Well I can, LO is feeding ALOT!!

Sam- tears are normal, but if it's too often make sure you are getting a break/a walk/showered and sufficient cake. Dh and I are on pnd watch after my last experience and recommend the above as vital!! Thank goodness I feel 100% different this time. Hope you feel happier v soon :)

And I got take that tickets- after 30'mins if trying goodness knows how but Yey!. I don't listen that much these days but it will be one hell of a show and nostalgia trip!

loobyboo · 30/10/2010 03:10

Hi all congrats to all the new arrivals

Ds is now 5wks old can't believe where the time has gone, he's doing well has put on a bit more weight which is good ( must be doing something good)

Currently have a sickness bug which isn't nice, have been expressing so dh can do the feeds, Ds had two btls total of 8 oz as is still asleep 6 hrs on magic dh I think. Wish I could make the most of it but have been unsettled all night hence posting at this time.

Hoping to resume my bf duties later, Ds I think wonders what's going on, haven't had a cuddle since yesterday afternoon. Hopefully this is a sign that the bonding has begun. ( took time with the 2 dd's as well).

Will now try and get some shut eye!!!!!

nymphadora · 30/10/2010 09:16

seashells I'm on pnd watch too :( dh v anxious about it

floozie you could go for most dramatic birth too?

looby :( at no cuddles. Dd3 def recognises difference between dh & I but think she would be v excited if he came with milk!

BionicEar · 30/10/2010 14:05

Hello!

Huge congrats to all who have produced over the last few days! Grin

Well I have news of my own to share... David John arrived on his due date (Thurs 28th Oct) Smile weighing 7lbs. Long labour - was in and out of hossy about 3 times before they kept me in but did it with TENS machine and gas and air. Had fab MWs who were brillant in providing support and the whole experience was much better than DD was.

Had small internal tear when delivering David which needed some stitches but it's not been too painful considering.

My DH and Mum were both present for the birth and did a fab job of supporting me.

Was told by my Mum last night that David was born with a caul (think I have spelt right?!) which is very rare apparently. Having looked up caul on the net - it like the sac bag over the face. My nan was cross that Mum and DH didn't save it as apparently if you believe in such things it meant to be very good luck and you will never drown at sea (or something like that!) and gypsies would give their eye for one! Nan also said the MW will probably sell on Ebay for lots of dosh! Grin

Stayed in hospital overnight in a room on my own - had put in that request due to needing special baby alarm to hear baby in night and didn't want the alarm to go off whenever any babies in a room cried! Grin

Came home last night. DD is VERY HYPER about being a big sister, and the cats are wary but keep going up to sniff David and purr at him, so think they ok with him.

David is feeding well so far and is a very content baby.

That's about it in a nutshell really - so will post when I can. Sending lots of positive labour vibes to those still waiting.

nymphadora · 30/10/2010 14:33

Congrats bionic I've heard of a caul but not anyone having one. V interesting. Was your mum with you then?

nymphadora · 30/10/2010 14:34

Just trigger your name bionic you are deaf?

rollerbaby · 30/10/2010 14:35

CONGRATS Bionic!!! Fab news... and how funny your MW trying to sell the placenta on ebay. Erm I think not!

Glad it all went well and hope you are resting up as we speak.

STILL no news.. other than laying on my shoulder badly and hurting it!

silver has gone quiet so think she may be in the throes!

nymphadora · 30/10/2010 14:46

Sorry that was supposed to say got your not trigger Hmm

Am on iPhone at the pool watching big dds & dh swim whilst eating bagels in the cafe

ILoveGregoryHouse · 30/10/2010 15:16

Congratulations Bionic. My DS2 and DS3 were also born in the caul. Very lucky according to sailors. My friend who was my birthing partner said the midwife was frantically trying to break the sac with her fingernails. Tough membranes!

Well, just resting up here trying to persuade baby to join us all. Hmmmmm.

nymphadora · 30/10/2010 15:32

iLGH that must be really rare to have 2!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 30/10/2010 15:42

Nymph, just googled it. 1 in 80000 births apparently. Wish I hadn't googled cos there's a bit of spooky stuff too! Funny thing is, I think DS2 is a bit fey. And it's nearly Halloween. Eek!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 30/10/2010 15:42

I'll save DDs if it happens again.

nymphadora · 30/10/2010 16:11

Maybe she will come tomorrow ....

Thirdtimer · 30/10/2010 17:21

Hi folks. Taken me a while to get round to updates... but Jack arrived on Monday morning in a textbook fashion! Woke up at 3.30 ish even more uncomfortable than usual. Decided by 5am it was the real thing so tried to work out how regular pain was. Seemed to be five mins... woke dh. Both had a shower and cuppa (very civilised) and called neighbour on kidwatch duty... headed to car to discover hard frost. waited for it to warm up... arrived at hosp 5.45 and made quick start on gas and air. As they examined me I was convinced they would either send me back home or tell me I had to have another section so was more than a bit chuffed when they said I was fd and ready to push at will! by 7.20 he was here! how fab am I? (currently allowing self much smugness due to bad experience last time..! Now feel so pleased it's ridiculous!) Grin
so far a very chilled out young man but reluctant to type that out loud... Hmm

Hermya321 · 30/10/2010 18:11

Thirdtimer That sounds like such a brilliant birth, I think muchos smugness is allowed on your part.

Bionic Congratulations!!! I can only imagine that there is some sort of back door trade in placentas by which the NHS budget benefits.

ILGH Come on baby!!

Abfab So nice to hear you're still loved up.

It's so strange, before I had DS I would wonder why people had lots of children and went through pregnancy and birth. It is only now that I've been through it that I get it. My friend has five children and when I look at my little one that I can totally imagine why she did it. I think a switch has been flicked in my head. So so odd.

I also keep looking down at my tummy and thinking that it looks a bit wrong. I spent six months gradually getting bigger and now my bump has gone. I think I actually miss it. I was in the bath last night and I felt really sad that no one was kicking me.

We went for our first trip out today, we went for lunch at a little cafe. DS slept the entire time and then promptly woke up demanding food as soon as we got in the front door.

My IL's are up visiting as well, seriously I don't think I could love another woman more than I do my MIL. She sent me to bed for a nap and when I woke up she had cleaned the entire house. I wonder if I can convince her to move in with us???

Anyway, I hope everyone is well.

Congratulations, Bionic not only on the birth of David, but on him being born in his waters - that is so cool. And ILGH to have had it happen twice - wow!

3rdtimer, super speedy - get you! You are allowed to feel smug! :) Hello, Jack!

looby, hope you feel better soon.

Aw, look at you all loved up too, Hermya! Isn't it awesome! :) So when's the next one?! :) I am seriously smitten, have made myself refrain from spewing smitten-ness all over Facebook as I don't want to sicken people. Think you lot understand though! :) DS is delighting us no end; DH and I just gaze at him, sniff him, stroke him, just love love love him. He is currently asleep on DH's chest. I love my men.

DillyDora · 30/10/2010 19:11

Backagain snap on the short and frequent feeds! The paediatrician said they can have a growth spurt at about 9 days, you just don't always notice it. Toby's 12 days now I think...but still ;0)

Floozie thanks re weight, I am bfing the best I can and expressing now, and feeding really frequently - he's demanding it which is lovely (for a while he didn't).

Wow bionic very cool about the caul - yes, you should have kept it! Wink

AbFab and Hermya I hear you about the love - thank God eh? Couldn't do it if I didn't like the little guy!!! Poor Toby though, he smells lovely but his nappies do not - remember they were preloved reusables? They are clean ( I washed them all at least once myself) but they smell a bit fusty when they warm up on his l'il bod. Also they are huge and he is small...he looks like a weeble! Maybe I should wait till he weighs 10lbs? Are you guys using yours yet?

Big hello and lots of love to everyone else too
xxx

ILoveGregoryHouse · 30/10/2010 19:53

Dilly try using a vinegar or bicarb soak on the nappies to get rid of the fusty smell. Tea tree oil or lavender might also help.

Elsa and Abfab how is the amby working out. Not used mine yet Sad.

nymphadora · 30/10/2010 20:12

third Congrats on baby Jack & speedy delivery

hermya I hate the after pg bit when there is no baby kicking :( but love the newborn stage. Dd3 is changing so fast & I can't believe that I'll never have this bit again :(

We aren't being too good on reuseables yet but trying to get in gear.

Been to a halloween party tonight & my narky hormones kicked in & I poked a woman with dd2s broom cos she was carrying a (old enough to know better) kid & he kept kicking the top of dd3s pram right by her head. Dh took me home not long after as he thought I may get in an argument Blush

Tyson86 · 30/10/2010 20:51

Well done to Dilly , third , and bionic so many babies Grin

Hermya Asher is beautiful

Got annoyed today, on a train back today from birmingham, had to stand up with a buggy with 2 yr old ds in and sophie in baby sling as a man who could of moved to another seat didnt and i got so irratated as i was stuck in the section for buggies, also ds got stuck in the gap getting off the train and freaked me out, a random girl helped me, im never going out again :(

AbFabT · 30/10/2010 23:24

Oh dear, Tyson and nymph! Things can only get better, eh!

ILGH, not used our Amby yet either. I am co-sleeping, DS doesn't even like going in his SnuggleNest, he falls asleep on my chest. Amby is mainly for us as a backup, if we are too tired to feel co-sleeping is safe, but I feel safe doing it, am sleeping fairly lightly and am wedged in either side too.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 31/10/2010 08:01

Well, it's not happening any time soon. Saw doc this morning. Cervix closed, posterior. Aaaarrgghhh. She won't let me go a week over though so back on Tuesday am for monitoring and Thursday for a decision on what to do. Am tempted by elcs.

Elsa123 · 31/10/2010 11:19

Hello everyone! Here for my weekly check in! By mid december I shall be a more regular poster as we're moving back to /lincs for the rest of my maternity leave where I have internet access!

Congratulations to Vikks, Bionic and Third.

Gosh, what a wait ILGH How frustrating!

Its amazing how similar many of our birth stories are with heads at funny angles.

Nymph I too have right boob issues and the other day was crying with frustration when DD was head butting, scratching and hitting it. When she did connect, the latch was all wrong and I was determined not to just let her feast on the left! Currently its much better through the use of a V pillow.

We decided, at last, to name our DD Bronwen Elizabeth.

Bronwen is now feeding every 3 hours from the end of each feed and is now waking in time for each feed and only cries if I delay the feed for reasons such as needing to go to the loo first! She's not mad keen on the indignities of getting undressed, but is soo well behaved its great. On her last weigh in, she weighed just shy of 6lbs, so growth is going well. She's got really long legs and arms and big paddles for feet, so she's now in the next size sleepsuit which is drowning her but the feet fit!

I'm getting better, still exhausted but my BP is slowly lowering and I think my hb levels are getting better. By day 10 my stiches felt so much better and the lowest one that had popped has now healed up completely.

ILGH and AbfabT the Amby nest for us has been a great success. DD loves it and sleeps in there really well. It makes a great travel cot too as we bring it up and down the country at weekends. Its great when she's not settled as the movement works. Her feeds last for an hour including burping and mid feed hiccups and in the night I've been getting up to read or watch TV in the sitting room as its too hard to sit upright in a dark room trying not to fall asleep and its stopped me waking up in a panic that I've fallen asleep feeding her. The downside is that she can often really wake as I tend to have to change her mid feed. The Amby nest helps settle her when awake in the middle of the night, but I do have to listen to her chatter to herself for a good half hour first!

AbfabT I too cannot get the hang of the lying down feeding thing.

nymphadora · 31/10/2010 12:42

elsa dd3 doesn't like getting undressed either but loves a bath now especially hair wash. She smiles all the way through.

Been to oncall dr this am as I have earache. Been diagnosed with glue ear Confused which through the dr. I can't have the meds so I'm to suffer but watch out for an infection developing.

Had a good night with dd3 though , only up once she did 2X 4 hours

Hermya321 · 31/10/2010 12:42

Ooooo Elsa I love the name!! Tis fabulous.

Abfab The next one may be coming a bit sooner than we originally said. But I expect it will be at least a year before we try again. I still need to finish a course at work, I'm thisclose to doing it but I am determined to at least get that side of my life sorted before we venture into the next little one. When are you starting on yours? I also can't get the hang of feeding lying down either, I'm going to work on it so I can snooze whilst DS feeds.

Tyson Thank you Grin.

Nymph You have more restraint than me, I think I would have hit her.

Dilly We're not using them as of yet. My MIL bought us several packs of nappies that we're currently working our way through and I think once we're done we'll probably start up. My focus at the moment is trying to get breastfeeding up and running and just to get myself right again. I think if my delivery had been a bit different I may have started on them sooner. But well it is what it is. Smile

The MW came today and removed one of my stitches, it feels so much better. I no longer feel like I'm sat on broken glass. The IL's have now gone home Sad and DH goes back to work tomorrow. I suspect that I may not make it out of my PJ's in the next few days. Oh well, such is life.
