Time for a new thread.

Hope the title will encourage the "reluctant" babes into the world.

Good luck to all who are due now/overdue

She did it twice (about 10 minutes apart) and it was the same both times, but the day I went to the Day Assessment Unit, it was 139/90 when the nurse took it, and 120/79 when they took it at the DAU, so I'm not too worried... Luckily the cricket is going a bit better, so that's helping to keep it down!!

Redhelen · 12/09/2005 18:21

Keep going Mummyhill and Lady L. helenemjay probably has her baby now!.

Had a terrible day mw sent me to the hospital day unit as babys heart rate raising and falling too far during contractions.

The good news was now contracting at 40-60% every 10 minutes - bad news each contraction sees babys heart rate raise and fall greater than the 'normal range'. I'm also itching over body, top off legs and arms - had to have blood test. Really upset that I'm going to end up with another c-section - and worried I'm going to panic all night - particullary if contractions continue (they seem to have slowed since I got home) Back to hospital tomorrow morning!
urrrrrrrrrrrrr

nicksptw · 12/09/2005 19:36

Have only posted a couple of times, but watching with anticipation all of your stories. So glad I'm not the only one flying off the handle at the general stupidness of everyone who is not pregnant, and bursting into tears over the washing up...and I've got ages to wait yet (29th)

LadyLazarus · 12/09/2005 20:18

RedHelen - good news on the contractions! Sorry about the baby's HR fluctuating... what would they do for that then? is a C-section the only option if it keeps on like that? Try to stay calm and not get too anxious about things, easy to say, I know. Are your 10-min contractions very painful? I am finding the whole thing very confusing! My crampy pains eased off a bit in the afternoon, but are now back and stronger than before, but the timings are all over the shop... sometimes every 15mins, sometimes a bit less, sometimes a bit more. They are not agony, but need to breathe through them a bit. I just wonder how much it should be hurting when they do come every 10mins?!!

LadyLazarus · 12/09/2005 20:23

Plus! when am I supposed to put the TENS machine on??! It says not at your first contraction, but when they get stronger.. when the hell is that?!! Why is this ruddy labour / false labour business so confusing (to me anyway!)

mummyhill · 12/09/2005 20:39

Hugs ladyl - As a generale rule use the tens when you are having to breath through every contraction. Pain levels very from person to person, we all have different tolerance levels. Go with your instincts where you can and if things are getting too painful phone delivery suite and talk to them. If you go in too early the worst that will happen is that they will send you home for a bit although if you really aren't coping with the pain they tend to take pity on you and keep you there with a lovely supply of drugs.

Kiwifruit · 12/09/2005 21:12

Ooohhh, it's getting exciting on here!! Am very !! Good luck Ladyl...
Sorry you've had such a stressful day Redhelen - fingers crossed that you manage to avoid a section...

NewChallengeforJen · 12/09/2005 21:15

Oh another day of waiting. Went for a long walk and a picnic by the river today and a swim and am hoping that activity will bring on the labour!! Good luck to Red Helen for tomorrow morning. One question for you all - how often are having check ups at the mo because mine have been 36, 38 and then 40 weeks which seems quite a wait between. Is this normal ?

Redhelen · 12/09/2005 21:21

Hello

The early contractions don't hurt they feel like I'm wearing extremely tight clothes for a few seconds then release off - at there worst I stop or sit down - but they are not 'in labour' contractions which to me felt like being stabbed - but were short lived lasting seconds and appearing every few minutes as I dilated.

Id put the tens machine on when you feel you want to reduce the pain/discomfort.I'm sure you'll know when!

The funny thing about a full on contraction is - you know it when you feel it! and don't worry if you need to call the hospital or take a visit there early on - its confusing to know what your looking for on your first time - I can only just remember !!

My ds had exactly the same varying heart rate - so loads of bad memories bought back this afternoon - mw also told me I'd need to be on constant monitoring and would have limited movement - which will make a long painfull labour and I bet 'failure to progress' = section!

Oh well!

LadyLazarus · 12/09/2005 21:46

Jen - I am going to the GP every week now, and have been since 36 weeks. Before that it was every fortnight I think.

RH + mummyhill - thanks for the advice. My pains are definitely more fo the 'stabbing' variety you mention RedHelen! I will keep my eye on the clock and if they get worse I might ring the ward. Still feels a bit early to be doing that to be honest, as the pains are only lasting about 10seconds or so...

andif · 12/09/2005 22:07

LL - beware of the TENS machine!!! Don't put it on too early - this happened to me with ds2 and kept contractions going at a low level for ages, when I should have just taken some paracetomol and got a good night's sleep - so when it really started hurting, I was too tired to cope. I know they work well for some people, but be careful!!!!

milward · 12/09/2005 22:47

Good luck mummyhill - hope all is going well xxx - and to everyone else due to give birth

Kiwifruit · 13/09/2005 07:33

Good Morning - it's quiet on here this morning, hope that means that you're all off having babies!

Redhelen · 13/09/2005 07:44

Hello Kiwifruit

Yes very quiet - I wonder how things are going!

I wish I'd had mine! off to hospital this morning - dreading it!! Fear I'm about to get the delivery I really didn't want!!!oh well at least it's quick - and hurts later!

jessysmummy · 13/09/2005 08:06

Good Luck Redhelen!
Hope Mummyhill's little bundle has arrived and maybe LadyL's too?
Jen - I'm still only seeing the mw every 2 weeks (I'm 38+3). I thought that this was a long time between appts too. Apparently they've had a new directive changing the length of time between appts but my mw always makes it clear that I can go and see her sooner if I have any concerns, though if I was a first time mum I'm not sure I would know when to be concerned!!

Kiwifruit · 13/09/2005 09:01

Good luck Redhelen - hope you get good news at the hospital this morning.

Am off to get fitted for maternity bras this morning - have to get motivated to get off the sofa and into the shower first though !

Hope no news is good news from Mummyhill and LadyL - no postings from KiwiKate overnight either, so maybe some action there too??

diane77 · 13/09/2005 09:13

hi all

had first ok nights sleep last night, thankgoodness!!! Am putting lack of labour down to sress, i am now tring to relax and see if this makes a diference. DD is at nursery today so am taking advantage of this and just pottering about the house. The discovery health pregnancy week is making me insane everytime i switch on the channel someone has just given birth its so unfair!!!!

andif · 13/09/2005 10:12

diane77 - I also had a much better night last night. It's amazing the difference it makes-I've already put washing out, repainted the stairs where the dog chewed them as a puppy, walked dog and am about to hoover!! Hopefully this is nesting and baby will appear (as if by magic..) soon!
Hope all well with LL, Mummyhill,Helenemjay, Kiwikate.
Redhelen - thinking of you, hope all goes well at the hospital.
Kiwifruit - have fun at bra fitting. Hope they don't make you feel like a whale as they did with me!!

Katts · 13/09/2005 10:52

Jen, I'm seeing my midwife every 2 weeks too. I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and midwife told me today to come back in 2 weeks time if I make it that long. However, I'm having a home birth and they're due to deliver equipment in the next day or so. So I'm not completely out on my own.

Personally I'm happy with only seeing them every 2 weeks since I haven't had any complications and everything's been pretty straight forward.

Anyone heard from Red Zuleika the last day or so?

beatie · 13/09/2005 11:00

I'm seeing my midwife every week now - since 37 weeks. I have an appointment with her this afternoon. I am now 40 + 4

I woke up twice last night to what felt like a contraction. But I just had the one and then I felt fine. I guess I just laid in a funny position. My leg and pubis bone pain are getting worse each night though. It's really quite difficult to get out of bed to go to the toilet without causing myself a lot of pain. I'm fine during the day as I just avoid walking anywhere.

RedZuleika · 13/09/2005 11:11

Hello. I'm here! (Waves)

Feeling really tired as now waking up at five in the morning with what I take to be Braxton Hicks (as I said - a new experience for me). Funny how they only happen at night - or maybe I'm just not sensing them the rest of the time. Also feeling sick.

Am looking in awe at Andif washing, painting and hoovering...

jessysmummy · 13/09/2005 11:35

I'm feeling quite queasy as well now, RedZuleika. Back to the good old days of morning sickness all day. Once again, I'm find myself eating constantly to try and keep the queasiness at bay but then feeling sick because I've eaten too much. I had this las time round as well, even vomitting during labour and a few minutes after DD was born. DH says it was all the wretching and having that delivered the afterbirth!. Sorry if TMI.
So, maybe, RZ, it's an indication that D day might not be too far off for us both? [BIG FINGERS CROSSED EMOTICON]

KiwiKate · 13/09/2005 12:31

I'm still hanging on KiwiFruit and Andif. Every several days for the LAST SIX WEEKS, I've had some "sign" of labour (regular contractions - not BH - or a show or something). I am now exhausted and fedup - even though my due date is only today. Had a bit of a meltdown today - DH was wonderful. Have packed DS off to my mums so that I can veg. (although nothing is comfortable or interesting at the mo). I am usually such a positive person - I can't believe how down I feel.

MW said yesterday that everything is "in order" for me to give birth and she is surprised that it has not happened yet, and that she'll be on "standby" for my call any moment. This would be good news except that I've had SO MANY false starts now that I don't even have energy to be interested (let alone excited).

Never had this stop-start thing with DS who arrived 3 weeks early (8 hours from first sign of labour to finish, and 3 hours from first pain to fininsh).

Good luck to all who are in / seem to be in labour. Take care

Hello - back from hospital!

The consultant says there is nothing wrong with babys heart rate - and mw was wrong to worry me- the itching is just streched skin - and not possible liver failure (also told yesterday!) and still no need for a c-section as far as she could see - so nervous sleepless night a waste!

Mummyhill and Lady L - are quiet - I sence the patter of more little feet!!!

Redhelen · 13/09/2005 13:46

KiwiKate - Know what you mean about a meltdown! Should have seen me yesterday evening! sorry your still waiting - its no fun is it
