Time for a new thread.

Hope the title will encourage the "reluctant" babes into the world.

Good luck to all who are due now/overdue

Congratulations Zubb
...and welcome to the world little Joseph Frederick
Wow an impressively short labour - the like of which I can only dream.
Cabe (new to mumsnet and this thread) x

zubb · 14/09/2005 10:27

Thanks! It wasn't scary at all as I knew what to expect this time. All very calm and controlled really, although delivering in the bath wasn't quite what I had in mind.
Frederick is a family name we had already decided on, but with the Ashes being won on the same day does look lke a homage to Flintoff! I actually had the cricket on the radio through out the birth, and just after he arrived Pieterson got his century - had visions of dh wanting to change the name to Kevin!

Kiwifruit · 14/09/2005 10:32

Congratulations Zubb and family, and welcome to Joseph . What a whopper! And another speedy delivery...

Upstairs neighbours have had builders in all week, crashing around . It's starting to do my head in , especially as said neighbours are less than quiet when they get in in the evening (they put in wooden floors about 3 months ago, and the noise is horrendous)... My only consolation is that in a few weeks time (hopefully !!) we will be able to get our revenge with a crying baby in the middle of the night... Nasty? Me??

mummyhill · 14/09/2005 10:34

congratulations Zubb and welcome to Joseph Frederick love the name. Now feeling .

Have had mum on the phone already this morning which is driving me potty as she is the first person I will be calling if a) I sponatiousley go into labour (ha ha ha) or b) the hospital call to say that they have had a cancellation and to make my way in, as she has further to come than DH who would be getting the second phone call to come home please.

Kiwifruit · 14/09/2005 10:36

Just read your last post Zubb - LOL at your DH - thats exactly what my DH would suggest too . He's already decided that we are going to the Ashes test in Adelaide in November, and has my parents teed up to come with us to a) keep him company at the game, b) keep me company when shopping/checking out the vineyards (when I'm not at the cricket - don't think I could take 5 days...) and c) provide babysitting services...

jessysmummy · 14/09/2005 10:37

CONGRATULATIONS Zubb and welcome to new baby Joseph!
Looks like I was wrong about the quiet night and even more wrong about the new arrivals. Sorry to hear so amny of you are so uncomfortable. At least I'm still managing to sleep ok. Hugs to you all and hope that something positive (like a baby) happens soon.
I went 13 days over with DD so I fully expect to still be here in October. When I went for my post date check up last time they gave me a sweep but I don't remember it being painful, just a little uncomfortable, like a smear. I was already 3cm dilated at the time, though. The midwife just wiped the neck of the cervix with a couple of her fingers. Was in full blown labour that night. Hope this works for all of you who are having this in the next few days.

bubbles2904 · 14/09/2005 10:42

congratulations zubb, i had a feeling you had delivered. i love the names too xxx

andif · 14/09/2005 10:46

Congratulations to Zubb and family!
I had a horrendous night, and logged on at 6am, but felt too depressed to post!
Had dreadful heartburn and lower back pain (just realised meant to pick up more paracetomol this morning and forgot....)
GP appt this morning - baby 4/5ths engaged so has GOT to come soon! After my madly energetic day yesterday, can see me achieving nothing today at all. Keep hearing that Green Day song - 'Wake me up when September ends' - my sentiments precisely!

Redhelen · 14/09/2005 10:55

Congratulations zubb !!!!!!!

I have been so grumpy over past 2 days - forgotton what this discomfort leads too!

Lady L - must have had her baby - its not like her not to post for 40 hours +!!!

Andif - I was checking Mumsnet too last night - and was too upset to post!!

Mummyhill - well done in hanging in there!

Katts · 14/09/2005 11:17

Congratulations Zubb!

And commiserations to everyone with pubic pain. Mine's been a bit worse the last day or so. It actually seems worse when I've been on the ball. Although it's only really really painful when I try to turn over in bed or shift my weight around too much.

STM - your man sounds great! Fingers crossed for you!

Picadilly Circus - I just got wireless broadband from Nildram. No complaints yet. It was REALLY easy to set up and have been impressed with their customer service. You actually get to speak to a real person on the phone - usually the same person. Very nice lady!

zoezebra · 14/09/2005 11:43

Yey, another baby, congratulations Zubb, wow what a quick labour...make sure you get some rest.

singleteenagemum · 14/09/2005 11:47

Morning all (i think)
Have just woken up...am not lazy but was in incruciating pain till 6 this morning when i finally dropped off. Seeing mw this afternoon, which i haven't done for 4 weeks and i'm now 39weeks today
Still getting contractions but they're really not painful in the slightest, can walk and talk through them...they dont feel like branston pickles though

New man being really sweet today, rang him to let him know i wasn't going anywhere near a hospital today and he was in a really important sales performance meeting Still at least it shows he cares. On the sharing a bed front, i only have a single so noone else (except the dog) would fit, however new man is more than willing for me to share his bed, probably got something to do with the fact that he wriggles far more than me and nicks all the covers!! bless though.

Congrats Zubb...and still crossing fingers for LadyL.

singleteenagemum · 14/09/2005 11:49

Cabe just looked at stats thread...your dd was 7/9? must be horrible being over....seems like the beginning of Septembeer was ages ago.

JM - think we both might end up with october babies

mummyhill · 14/09/2005 11:51

We are lucky we have a kingsize the only problem is if dd decides she wants to come for a cuddle too.

mummyhill · 14/09/2005 11:55

Community midwife has just been round to check up on me, gave me a hug and told me to think positive thoughts.

Kiwicath · 14/09/2005 11:57

Hi All!! Has been ages since I posted .... like way back in JUNE!! Arrived back to NZ safe and sound and have settled in .... ish. Was due on the 14th so twiddling thumbs waiting for the little fella to arrive. Feel so unabout to have a baby. I'm feeling no different now than the last few months, only fatter! I'll spend my time trying to catch up on all the goss. That should take me at least a week! Congrates to everyone who has delivered so far XX.

beatie · 14/09/2005 11:59

Katts - bouncing on the ball makes my pubic pain worse too. I think it is because it forces me to separate my legs. I know I shouldn't go on it really, but then it helps with back pain. You can't win!

singleteenagemum · 14/09/2005 12:01

Welcome back KC.

Re: bouncing balls, are you just meant to sit with your legs open and then bounce?

Kiwifruit · 14/09/2005 12:27

Hi Kiwicath and welcome back! Glad to hear that your move back to NZ went well (any tips gratefully received!) - sounds like it's been a pretty mild winter in Christchurch, so hopefully the temperature change from Egypt hasn't been as dramatic as it could have been! Haven't done anything to organise our move yet, even though that is supposed to be my big job on maternity leave . We will have to catch up in December when we've arrived in Christchurch.

Boompi · 14/09/2005 12:30

Confrats Zubb, Wow to your fast birth, well done!
LadyL must definately have had her baby..

Katts · 14/09/2005 12:52

Boompi, hows the baby hammock working out for you? Mine is assembled and sitting by the bed looking very cosy.

STM...the ball is good for sitting because it makes you sit up straight. It allows you to move your hips around which is supposed to be good for getting baby in position. And the bouncing is supposed to be good for encouraging contractions because it makes the baby's head move down and bounce on the cervix.

But it's also really good for leaning on. I like to sit on a few cushions on the floor and lean forward onto the ball to watch tele. Lets me have a nice stretch. DP loves it too, but he's able to get a bit more acrobatic with the stretches than me.

diane77 · 14/09/2005 12:58

hi all

still no signs of labour now 10 days over arrgh!!! I have to go to hospital tomorow for an induction im a bit nervous but at least the waiting will be over

PiccadillyCircus · 14/09/2005 13:07

Congratulations Zubb . I think I'll go for a slightly longr labour myself though.

Midwife all fine, basically as I predicted. Decided not to discuss the jelly like stuff in the end. Have been to Tesco and bought lots of food. I am having the nearest I seem to get to cravings which are sadly unhealthy things like sausage rolls, prawn crackers and trifle (although not all at once ). And also Twixes; whoever mentioned them yesterday made me realise they were missing from my life.

Stubbed my toe coming into the house which wasn't so bad except it bled and trying to get a plaster on it was interesting.

Thank you for broadband recommendations so far - I will do some more investigating as well .

Cabe · 14/09/2005 13:08

Oooh thanks Jessysmummy for positive account of the membrane sweep
...had been thinking along the lines of Nikkinoo and thought the whole thing a bit dubious but thinking now may be worth a bit of discomfort and
Mummyhill... {(hugs)} from all of us overdue-ers I think, hope the threat of induction has psycosomatic effect and you go into spontaneous labour. No one's dared to mention the dreaded induction word to me yet and midwives here seem pretty laid back and confident I'll get the home-birth I want, perhaps the babes are all waiting for the full moon on the 17th (ghastly thought for me as little one will share a birthday with my overbearing mother who will attempt to steal the limelight!!!)
STM did you say you've got the m/w today too... hope it goes well. Oh and I'd have to have a massive bed to get DP in... he's postponed any idea of moving closer than 100miles away (down south) for the sake of his career! humph wont know what to do with him when he's here on paternity leave... make him do the ironing/washing/cooking I'm thinking!!
Cabe x
