Time for a new thread.

Hope the title will encourage the "reluctant" babes into the world.

Good luck to all who are due now/overdue

Back from sweep - wasn't nearly as bad as with ds2. Apparently I am 1cm dilated, but cervix is still pretty thick so labour not imminent. Have induction date for 27th in eve which made me feel a bit panicky. At home I'm desperate to have this baby, but as soon as I get near a hospital I go into panic mode and want to avoid labour at all costs!!

beatie · 19/09/2005 18:25

My very long update is about to follow. Grab yourself a cup of (red rasberry red) tea

beatie · 19/09/2005 18:28

I had my sweep at 4.30pm when the other community midwife managed to get round to my house. I had not met this midwife before but she was as lovely as my midwife. She explained everything and she was so positive and upbeat - it put me into a much better frame of mind.

I got baby checked. Heartbeat great before AND after the sweep (when the baby had its head touched for the first time) It's on my right hand side as it tends to move from left to right, but it's anterior so that's fine. MY BP was fine too.

The sweep was uncomfortable but did not hurt. She swept round 3 times! I was at 1cm before hand and afterwards at 2cm. She said that was very positive. My cervix wasn't too difficult to reach and is thin and soft. The head is 3/5ths engaged. Just getting a progress report has helped me get back into positive thinking.

Anyway - she said there's a 50/50 chance of membrane sweeps working but that she was very hopeful for me. She told me it's a good idea to go for a walk an hour or two after a sweep so DH and I are just headed out now for a walk around the neighbourhood.

My mum just took DD back to her house to sleep just incase things kick off before morning. I can pick her in the morning if nothing is happening, so my mum can still go to work. It's just peace of mind having DD out of the house and also prevents my mum having to make a second trip over to our house today.

The really great news though is that I can still use the birthing pool if I am induced through the pessary gels or artificial rupture of membranes. Only the syntocinon will prevent me from using the pool. This midwife was hopeful all I would need would be ARM to set me off into labour and then I could get in the pool.

It's amazing how different this hospital's policies are to where I had DD. I'm so grateful to have moved ahouse nd be delivering in this hospital.

So andif and PC - anything to report following your membrane sweep? Cramps? Tightenings?

I'm going to have a glass of wine tonight and try and relax (after a vigorous walk)

andif · 19/09/2005 19:24

Beatie, that sounds very positive. More likely to work for you than me I fear! Feel a bit uncomfortable this evening with lots of BH and a bit crampy, but nothing to get excited about! Will do lots of ball bouncing this evening, and may even try to persuade dh (and myself!!) into sex. I tried to explain to dh that the prostaglandin pessaries they give at induction are the same stuff as in sperm and somehow he got completely the wrong end of the stick - he ended up thinking they were going to shove sperm up me for induction and was quite indignant as to where/who it would come from!!LOL - Men, eh?

Kiwifruit · 19/09/2005 20:09

Beatie - that sounds very promising - I very much hope (in the nicest possible way) that I don't find any posts from you on here tomorrow morning (because you're too busy having a baby )! Enjoy that glass of wine - can you have one for me??

Andif - LOL at your husband. Bless him! And totally agree with re the labour/hospital thing - I'm exactly the same!!

singleteenagemum · 19/09/2005 20:31

No news from here unfortunately....just been bouncing through emmerdale and then eastenders, i definately he's moved down again....was 3/5s last wednesday so will find out tomorrow.

Will tommorrow when i get in...if i get the chance...hopefully thry'll have done something and it will've got me started...just been reading that thingy (thnx for the link)and have decided if needs be i'll opt for pessarys and then go straight for c-section if the gel doesn't work.

singleteenagemum · 19/09/2005 20:32

beatie - glad someone finally came round for you, hope it's worked

jessysmummy · 20/09/2005 09:10

Good morning ladies!
CONGRATULATIONS Diane and new baby Dylan. Hope emergency section wasn't too traumatic.
Oh Bubbles, you're not gatecrashing at all - you're still a sept mum, aren't you? Anyway, it gives us all hope that there is life on the other side. Hoping all the postnatal mums will stick around to give us overdue/not yet due mums some support.
Good positive news Beatie, hope you are becoming /have become bumpless as I type.
STM - hope you have some good news today - don't think there's any way you're going to make it to oct. Will keep things crossed for you. x

Nikkinoo · 20/09/2005 09:51

Hiyah Bubbles

Dont be daft you are not gatecrashing at all. It is good to post things.

Anyway hope everyone is feeling ok. It is not so bad being preggers now that the weather is cooler and at the end of the day worst case scanrio will only be another 10 days pregnant.

I am NOT having a sweep on DDs birthday so will call the hospital today.

Anyway as this week is so busy baby is gonna have to wait

Got the Amby which seems to have alot of metal around it, hope baby likes it when she comes, got some free gifts too which is nice and erm that is it really.

Congrats to all of those whose babies have landed.

bubbles2904 · 20/09/2005 10:00

hi everyone and thanks.
jessysmummy, i will always be here to support you all, and am looking forward to the post natal thread when we're all on the other side.

andif · 20/09/2005 10:10

Beatie and PC hope the sweeps have worked - mine hasn't so far, still crampy but that's all. Might try to get appt with midwife and have another one towards the end of the week.
Congrats to Diane77 and baby Dylan.
What am I going to do today?!!!!

franch · 20/09/2005 10:15

Hi all, I'm still lurking and sending you all good baby vibes at all times.

Started writing my birth story here - will let you know when it's finished!

xxx

jessysmummy · 20/09/2005 10:23

Glad you're going to hang around Bubbles. Hope all is well with baby Mia.
Nikkinoo - have you made it clear to bump that this week is not the best time to arrive?
Andif - am the same as you - struggling to figure out what to do today. Hope you manage to stay busy and labour creeps up on you!

jessysmummy · 20/09/2005 10:33

Ooops, franch, posts crossed. Glad you're hanging around too. Have read first installment of your birth story...how exciting. Look forward to episode 2! Hope Carmen is well. Is DD1 behaving herself?(interested as my DD is the same age)

bubbles2904 · 20/09/2005 10:44

aw thanks jessysmummy, mia is doing great, sleeping really well, 8 hours sleep some nights but 6 mostly and only wakes once. don't know i'm born as dd1 NEVER slept

Boompi · 20/09/2005 10:47

Congrats Helen and Diane!!
KF - how awful re your care - prob worth a letter to head of midwifery though.
Good luck to all those waiting!
DD still behaving - my god though shes a noisy sleeper. Pants, grunts, mews etc...thats whats keeping me awake at night!!

jessysmummy · 20/09/2005 10:54

Boompi - before long you'll find that you can't sleep WITHOUT those little grunts and mews.
Glad Mia sleeping well for you, Bubbles so early on. Sounds like she's settled in well. Can you remember what life was like when there was just the 3 of you? DOes it seem like a long long time ago?

franch · 20/09/2005 11:16

jessysmummy: DD1 has been great by day, giving DD2 kisses, bringing her toys, putting cream on her - very affectionate without being obsessed. But she had a terrible night last night - normally a perfect sleeper - full of beans and chat with us in the room but distraught every time we left. DH ended up sleeping in her room - she woke early too. So maybe it's getting to her more than she's letting on? Can only hope it's a one-off. Especially as at the moment I always have someone else around (usually DH/mum) - things can only get worse when it's eventually just her, me and DD2.

singleteenagemum · 20/09/2005 11:22

Morning all...
am feeling a little more positve today...

getting myself prepared for this afternoon, bit anxious now about what they're going to say...everything will be fine.

JM - you dont think we should become honoury members of the October thread then ?

Bubbles - i really like logging on and seeing how new mums and babies are doing, gives me hope that i might jujst actually be ok.....dont stop!
