Time for a new thread.

Hope the title will encourage the "reluctant" babes into the world.

Good luck to all who are due now/overdue

Well good afternoon ladies....
Am not a happy bunny today.

I slipped last night whilst trying to get dressed after a bath and fell onto my bump Am rhesus -ve so had to go in for Anti-D injection. Got to ward at 19:30 and was seen at 20:00 by a consultant - she said i needed an emergency uss in the morning and bp monitoring over night. So i stayed in

Didn't get any monitoring over night and didn't sleep either.

saw another consultant at 09:00 this morning to be told i needed a USS, (which i already knew). He asked the mw if one had been booked and she said yes.

Did not get BP checked until 12:00 and when i enquired about my 'emergency' scan she said one had been booked and they'd let me know when it was. Also had my anti-d injection more than 12 hours after they said i was having it!!

MW came round to say that my uss hadn't been booked and so i could go home....WTF??? an emergnecy USS not booked, so go home? Was not impressed having had to stay in hospital for no apparent reason now....they've now booked for USS in 2 and a half weeks time......like i'm going to need it then (optimism!) that's an emergency USS is it? Not best pleased writing letter of complaint after this long post (i'm sorry) Been told i am abusive patient aswell because i started crying when she told me i could go home.....with no scan and baby who's not moving very much.

Phoned my community mw as soon as i got in to see if it was too late to opt for a home birth or to switch hospitals...and she said it was....hate hospitals so much am going to hold on at home till the very last minute....getting bad pains in abdomen where i fell....had them all night, told mw...in my notes it says 'no problems voiced' well i certainly voiced them after that.....am one unhappy, sexually frustrated, heavily pregnant woman, that cant stop crying and is having tightenings every so often.

Sorry for waffling needed to get it off my chest...hope everyone is having a better day and glad you all had good nights.

Congrats YCH

mummyhill · 16/09/2005 16:25

Ohh STM I would be writting a very strong letter of complaint too. (((((hugs)))) That is really sh*t.

On the flip side you might end up having your baby this weekend though.

And I was fumming about the fact that my hospital seem quite content to let me go 15 days over.

Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything turns out OK. Feel free to come and rant any time you like.

mummyhill · 16/09/2005 16:27

Was your community midwife supportive? Could she put pressure on them to get you scanned any earlier?

beatie · 16/09/2005 16:39

STM - That sounds like appalling treatment. So did they not monitor you at all?!

singleteenagemum · 16/09/2005 16:41

had my bp done once the whole 18hours i was there!
Community mw's are lovely...she booked me an appointment tomorrow morning at my local clinic just to listen into baby and just do a general check to make sure everything is ok....

beatie · 16/09/2005 16:47

Thta's incredible. Why on earth did they make you stay in? I would have expected them to put you on the monitor for an hour.

singleteenagemum · 16/09/2005 16:50

Who knows? lol....didn't even get a CTG

bubbles2904 · 16/09/2005 17:02

congratulations ych and family xxx
stm, i really feel for you, it's disgusting how you were treated, hope you are both ok.
hi to everyone else, thinking of you all xxx

RedZuleika · 16/09/2005 17:37

Just a quick one - STM - that's an appalling approach the hospital took. Booking a scan 2 1/2 weeks away is useless: they might as well pat you on the head and say there, there, love - run along and don't worry your pretty little head... When my consultant decided to send me for a growth scan at short notice, one was arranged within two days.

I don't know what the criteria are for changing hospitals, but it absolutely is not too late to opt for a home birth, whatever b&llsh&it they want to feed you.

(Laughed at the 'abusive patient' bit. I'd give them 'abusive'... this reminds me of the stupid trout nurse who - when my terminally ill FIL asked for painkillers for the Nth time - said "You'll just have to be patient, Mr X...". He told her where to stick her patience.)

singleteenagemum · 16/09/2005 18:11

LOL RZ will try that one next time!

MW said i cant have a home borth as it;s my first and as such is unchartered teritory...guess i've just had a bad experience and so (a littled!!) angered. Will ask again tomorrow

Redhelen · 16/09/2005 18:12

singleteenagemum - I'm horrified - I'm really sorry that any one can treat an anxious & heavily pregnant lady in such a way.

Guess what my cry wolfy contractions are back!! Feeling very anxious and low today - I'd love to think somethings a brewing - but you'd have heard that one before!

Just spoke to the senior midwife at hospital - she tells me that now I'm a previous c-section and group b strep - I have to go in as soon as real labour starts - tried to explain to her that I'm not sure now if I'd recognise real labour - with so many false alarms! Everything was so obvious when I had ds!

take care xx

RedZuleika · 16/09/2005 18:20

Well - your midwife may well say that - but she's wrong. Even before I was diagnosed with antiphospholipid antibodies, I got the same thing. First pregnancy... untried pelvis... risk of pph... transfer time to hospital (less than nine miles, actually - it's not like I live on a remote Scottish island)... yadda yadda yadda. It's as if you have to 'earn your spurs' by giving birth once - although if you are then subject to various interventions, they'll be bound to come up with a reason why you 'don't fit the criteria' for a home birth the second time round.

As they send two midwives, they have a profound economic reason not to encourage home birth, even if this is contrary to government policy.

You can have a home birth. You'll probably just have to get a bit stroppy about it.

RedZuleika · 16/09/2005 21:26

Gosh - it's gone quiet...

@@@@@@@@@@@@@ (tumbleweed blows through)

Is everyone off delivering their infants?? (RZ prods inactive bump and sniffs softly...)

beatie · 16/09/2005 21:41

My midwife did not come by at 8pm ( so must have assumed the other midwife caught me in. It's a bit annoying really but at the same time a bit of a relief. I was starting to get really nervous about the membrane sweep.

I should get it done on Monday if need be although I'm a bit concerned that I can never get hold of my midwife to speak to her. I leave her messages and she doesn't ring me back.

Can I just ring the hospital instead and ask to speak to one of the midwives on that particular community team? Because by Monday I'll be 10 days over and I should surely be seen by someone re a sweep and to check all is OK. I hadn't bothered to make a midwife appt. for next week.

I'm feeling much better about being overdue now. (This may not last) I am 7 days over. I have survived 7 days so feel like it would be no great shakes, out of the grand scheme of things, to survive another 7. This weekend would be perfect timing to have the baby (dd is at my parents house) but if it doesn't happen, then what does it matter whether it is Monday, Wednesday or Friday?! I know I should certainly have a baby by next weekend.

TI think they'll start to recommend an induction early next week but I have decided I will wait out the full two weeks until I am 42 weeks. I have set my sights on not being induced this pregnancy and letting the baby arrive on it's true birth date, it would be a shame to give up on that for the sake of 4 days.

I know (with experience) that induction shouldn't be too bad but this is my last baby and it would be nice to experience spontaneous labour and the gentler water birth that I have wanted all along.

mummyhill · 16/09/2005 21:54

How come everyone else that is overdue is still seeing midwives? Mine has gone on holiday and did not advise me that I should be seeing her replacement whilst she is off. The hospital saw me tuesday but are not prepared to see me till wednesday unless a)they call me in for induction due to a cancellation (ha ha) b) I go into labour all on my own.

So much for looking after me and monitoring me more closely due to thyroid, back problems and previous m/c.

I realise this is my second baby but I really could of done with more reasurance this time round after everything I went through last year etc.

beatie · 16/09/2005 21:56

There's such a huge discrepancy of care don't you think? Can you see your GP instead Mummyhill?

mummyhill · 16/09/2005 22:00

God knows may phone up on monday and see if they can fit me in just to do bp if nothing else as it is steadily rising. It is still within allowable perameters but even so it is high for me.

I find it truly bizzare that there can be such a huge difference in the levels of care/facilities available frrom one region to the next. You would of thought that there would be a national level that every region would adhere to.

mummyhill · 16/09/2005 22:02

Am wondering if it is worth phoning the hospital to ask them if I can go in earlier for induction if I don't hear anything by monday lunchtime just in case they have forgotten me.

beatie · 16/09/2005 22:03

I think you should be seen by someone to have your bp and baby's heartrate checked. The GP can usually do that if a midwife is on holiday or else call up the community midwife team and ask someone to drop by.

Haha - that's funny for me to say as I don't know how to contact my community midwife team - just my midwife who never answers my calls

beatie · 16/09/2005 22:04

You might as well phone the hospital too... hassle them a little so they don't forget you should a bed become available.

Daisydot · 16/09/2005 22:46

Ladies, Iv'e been told it's a full moon tomorrow, which usually means a flurry of babies being born.

Hope we all get lucky! This little baby is due tomorrow, but can't see it happening somehow. He/she seems far too comfy curled up in my tum.

Bring on the fresh pineapple and more of that raspberry leaf tea.............

Redhelen · 16/09/2005 23:50

Yes - the full moon will be interesting to see if any babies arrive!

I've worked out that on exactly same number of days as previous pregancy for ds - baby should be born on 20th! bit of await!! but still getting cramps!!! take care - sleep well and keep warm!!!

Katts · 17/09/2005 04:23

Well it's 4:00 in the morning and I'm WIDE awake. I've definitely had a show - so no more wondering what that's like. In case anyone else is wondering (please excuse if TMI) I felt something dripping so went to the toilet and discovered a minute later a 2 foot long cord of thicky ropey white gunk dangling from me. DP insisted on seeing too. Soooo attractive. Anyway, I'm pretty sure my waters have gone too. Have gotten through 2 maternity towels and I leak all over the place every time I stand up.

No contractions though. So I guess no reason to get too excited but I still can't sleep as at least I know that SOMETHING is happening.

STM...you're midwife is talking out her a*se. It's my first baby and I'm having a home birth. It's your right to have your baby at home and she has a duty of care to you. There's lots of information here: www.homebirth.org.uk/ and here www.aims.org.uk/

AIMS are the people to contact to get some support for having the birth you want.

Oh and by the way Thai Green Curry may have done the trick.

Redhelen · 17/09/2005 05:04

Katts

Ohhhhhhhh - how exciting - I'll keep my fingers crossed you go speedily into labour!

Must go starving!!5am munches! Think this is the first morning I havn't been cramping at this hour! - oh well! take care xxxx

Katts · 17/09/2005 05:33

Thanks just listened to the hypno birthing tape and for the first time made it through most of the way before falling asleep for 1/2 hour.

Munch away!
