Time for a new thread.

Hope the title will encourage the "reluctant" babes into the world.

Good luck to all who are due now/overdue

Sleep is good if you can get any during early labour. ohh your going to meet your baby today!!!!!

KiwiKate · 17/09/2005 06:49

Thrilled to announce that Grace Michelle arrived at 5:17 am (NZ time) 17 September.

Weighing in at 3.180kg/about 6pounds 7ounces, after a very intense 2 hour active labour. Got a water birth (only just in time!) with gas and air. Yay, no tears or stitches.

Baby fed immediately after birth. She is beautiful. She is also very calm and peaceful (unlike her brother was when he was born 2.5y ago). Didn't know if we were going to have a boy or girl. It was SO EXCITING hearing that she is a girl.

Spent about 2 hours in maternity unit after the birth (mainly to give her chance to feed) before heading home.

(Don't read if quesy .. )
Our "home made" induction methods did work -

  1. hot curry for lunch and dinner,
  2. DH did a bit of a cerviacal massage - (sounds gross, but it worked!!)
  3. Oysters for DH (to increase volume of .. ahem .. sperm discharged)
  4. Sex
  5. Chest to bed, with butt in the air for 15 mins after sex (to ensure sperm had chance to coat cervix)
  6. Caullophylum 200c - 4 drops every 15 mins (for 6 doses). Resulted only in mild contractions.
  7. Sleep till woken a few hours later with strong contractions lasting 30 seconds each.
  8. Quick trip to Maternity Unit, with just enough time to fill the bath and have baby in the bath (with gas and air).

KiwiKate - thats fantastic news - wondered where you were! Well done XXXXXXXXX

beatie · 17/09/2005 07:20

Congratulations KiwiKate - I love her name.

Thanks for sharing your natural induction techniques. I must be lazy because even at 8 days overdue, I don't think I can face all that.

ych · 17/09/2005 07:35

Congratulations Kiwikate, love the name. x

mummyhill · 17/09/2005 08:45

Congratulations Kiwikate and welcome to Grace Michelle. What a lovley name.

Well still sat here waiting feeling very fat and fed up. One of the mums suggested that she could come round with a sink plunger (yipee nice visual image there).

Was up at 2.30 this morning with terribl heart burn.

Apart from the fact that DH doesn't like oysters I may try out kiwikates methods of induction cause I am sooooo fed up and want to meet the newest baby hill.

mummyhill · 17/09/2005 10:01

OK now I am getting confused can we have a roll call of those who have had their babies, those who like me are overdue and those who have not yet reached their due date please?

Has anyone heard from Dianne77 was wondering how her induction went.

Katts · 17/09/2005 10:01

Still here and leaking. Managed to get a couple of hours sleep. Figure I should do some walking now and keep mobile to get things moving along. Feeling kind of periody but nothing particularly painful or regular.

Congratulations KiwiKate! Hope I'm right behind you.

mummyhill · 17/09/2005 10:03

Fingers crossed for you Katts will be looking eagerly for a birth announcement from you in the next few days.

Redhelen · 17/09/2005 10:14

I'm still here Mummyhill - 5 days late totally exausted and getting more upset by the day! oh well!

singleteenagemum · 17/09/2005 10:23

Morning all,
Just got back from an appointment with my mw, who has said i definately cant change hospital and there's no way i'll get a home birth. So thinking, if i dont need pain relief (yea right!) i'll stay at home for too long!! If i have to call an ambulance it'll take me to the nearest hospital which is the one i'd like to be transferred to, so will now play my own game of 'ha ha dont piss off the pregnant woman she'll win anyway'

Baby is happier today and is now 3/5's engaged...

Congratulations KiwiKate...beautiful name to go with a beautiful daughter i'm sure.

Good luck Katts hope you're getting some pain now lol (in the nicest possible way)

mummyhill · 17/09/2005 10:38

((hugs)) redhelen - I am now 11 days over and getting really depressed. Can't believe how long they are leaving me to get on with it. Roll on wednesday.

STM - Don't blame you, I think I would do the same especially after the cr*p care you got the other night.

andif · 17/09/2005 10:39

Thought my waters were leaking in the night, slightly concerned coz of Strep B, but decided to leave til morning, more cramps too. Phoned hosp this morning, to be told to come in (surprise surprise). Luckily they were v quiet so monitored for a bit, they did an internal (yuck) and announced it must have been stress incontinence due to coughing (dreadful heartburn and a cold)
So still here!!
Baby is completely engaged, but cervix showing no signs of thinning, so don't think full moon will work for me! It's funny how on the new moon (2nd Sept) I couldn't imagine having to wait until my due date, and now that has sailed past too...! Was quite relieved in a way as today not really convenient for baby and it would be nice to get rid of this cold first.
STM, can't believe the treatment you got at the hospital - I would be straight on the phone on Monday morning to complain to the powers that be!
Congrats to Kiwikate - I don't think I can face all that stuff for induction either Beatie - also feeling resigned now to baby coming in its own sweet time!
Have a good weekend everyone...

singleteenagemum · 17/09/2005 10:45

Mummyhill - whats the longest they'll leave you?

Redhelen · 17/09/2005 10:46

mummyhill - I'm really sorry - Like you I can't see an end any more - just the pregnanacy discomfort and cramps going nowhere!

Andif - sorry I was told similar about my unfavourable cervix on Wednesday! hope the cold sorts its self out quickly. I found an internal really brought on my cramps - but still no baby!!!

singleteenagemum · 17/09/2005 10:49

i'm not even due yet and woulds certainly say yes straight away if someone offered me a c-section!! Anyone else at that stage?

andif · 17/09/2005 10:57

STM - sort of, but the thought of the recovery - no driving for maybe 6 weeks, 2 overactive boys and a dog to walk puts me off...and I do think it takes ages to get any sort of stomach muscles back afterwards from what friends have experienced...

singleteenagemum · 17/09/2005 11:01

yea i suppose Andif...but i dont have anymore to run around after...and at least i get to keep my other muscles in good working order for when/if i ever have sex again lol

mummyhill · 17/09/2005 11:17

STM they said that they can't fit me in for an induction till wednesday. I will be 15 days over then, and when you think about it if I go in at 9 in the morning they will stick me on a monitor for half an hour then introduce the pessary then put me back on monitor for half an hour tell me to go for a walk etc leave me for 6 hours, examine me and start the process all over again if necessary. They will give it three attempts apparently and then if nothing is happening I end up with the section I have been fighting against for the last 4 months. So I may not even have the baby till this time next week depending on how quickly they set everything up once I get there and quickly things progress.

I really can't see the end at the momment have just had a good cry but still don't feel any better for it.

Can someone just knock me out and wake me up when september ends with a healthy baby please?

singleteenagemum · 17/09/2005 12:13

Awwwww big hugs mummyhill, that's really bad.

Hope they can fit you in before Wednesday...even so induction isn't pleasant apparently

beatie · 17/09/2005 12:19

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so desperate Mummyhill. I still hope little BabyHill puts in his/her appearance before you have to be induced. If not, I hope the induction goes smoothly and quickly.

I'm now 8 days over and there's not a lot happening. I woke up with one contraction at 2am. It seems to be a common occurence. I'm sure it's just that I've rolled onto my back and the baby wakes me up to tell me to shift onto my side. I had crampiness al day Thursday but nothing since then.

If I'd had to be induced before my due date, for some medical reason, I think I'd have been happy enough. But now, faced with a clearer reality of an induction for being overdue, I realise how much I do not want that. I suppose I'm a little afraid. I have to give this baby another week if the hospital/midwives will let me. And now that I have resigned myself to that, it is a little easier to cope day to day. I'm just trying to keep busy and make sure I walk for a bit each day.

Since I had that horrendous week of toothache, my SPD pain and all other aches have paled in comparison. I can now deal with sporadic pain after I was in 24/7 constant pain. It's all relative.

Still, expect me to be on here moaning daily about not having had the baby.

Cabe · 17/09/2005 13:59

Hi everyone... I'm still here, 10 days over now and for first time having a really weepy time of it
contractions so strong last night it looked like things were going to really lock in to a rhythm... 47 contractions over the 6hours between 7pm and 2am. All so promising my sister wouldn't leave me (really thought the Bill Bailey experiment was going to work!) then "pouff" it all evaporated
So have every sympathy with all the tired, sore, upset and disappointed overduers here {{{hugs}}} to all... Still I wouldn't go near contemplating an induction or C section yet though STM... not 'til 42 weeks is up... will just pop in to have baby's heart rate and my blood pressure taken each day if i go beyond Wednesday
DP not so D at mo... he rang an hour ago to say he wouldn't be up this weekend (so much to do on house!?!?! so I'm left feeling like "cheers for the support! wow! just great priorities you've got there!"
Sorry everyone you don't want to hear (read) this....

Wonderful news Kiwikate... well done on induction method.. and another beautiful name, what a tasteful group of ladies on this thread!

Thoughts with you too Katts... how exciting for you x

PiccadillyCircus · 17/09/2005 14:03

This baby is now late. At the moment this is a novelty to me but I am sure that all too quickly I will be moaning a lot.

I seem to have got a burst of energy from somewhere, but this was chanelled into going to local town with DS and DH, where DS and I went to the library and DH did the shopping, rather than anything useful.

DH and DS have now gone to a local steam fair so I am going to relax a bit. But I do feel like there is some energy waiting to be used up. Might possibly mow the lawn.

Although I suppose tidying the kitchen after we all managed to make a mess of it at lunchtime would be more sensible.

PiccadillyCircus · 17/09/2005 14:05

Congratulations KiwiKate and welcome to Grace .

andif · 17/09/2005 14:05

Does anyone know if age has an effect on how far they will let you go over due date? As I am 37 I feel that maybe my placenta isn't as efficient as all you young things (although maybe you're all as old and crumbly as me...?) so maybe they will put more pressure on me on Monday to be induced? Just wondered if anyone knew..
