It's an American one rocket so uses cups. Do you have measuring cups?

You could also make an oaty crumble, or flapjacks. Yum.

Muser · 31/10/2010 11:44

TBG is currently grinning like a loon as he finally got to feel Bob move. [hgrin]

rocketleaf · 31/10/2010 11:45

Yep I have cups. Mmm my mum gad a Canadian cookies recipe basically oats flour butter and golden syrup. Was lush but I have misplaced it. Flap jacks are a good call tho. Righter better heave myself out if bed! Feels like time for a Ginger ale anyway ( why does spell check insist that Ginger is a proper noun?) :/

Muser · 31/10/2010 12:05

Weirdly this is Canadian as well! Canadian Oatmeal Shortbread.

1 cup butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed), 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 cup plain flour, 1/2 tsp soda, 2 cups rolled oats.

Mix butter, sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Blend flour, soda and rolled oats, stir into butter mixture. Chill 1 to 2 hours.

Heat oven to 350F. Roll dough 1/4" thick on lightly floured board. Cut in 1 1/2" squares or fancy shapes. Bake on ungreased baking sheet 10 to 12 min.

They are yummy and do taste a lot like hobnobs. I would recommend using unsalted butter as if you use salted they can be a bit too salty.

rocketleaf · 31/10/2010 12:19

Oh missed that about bobs dance performance for TBG. lovely stuff.

Thanks for the recipe. Butter will have to be salted as I have everything else unless I can be bothered to leave the house (doubtful) I quite like salty cookies anyway. Chef friend has done a range of choc and peanut cookies with salt sprinkled on top I am very partial to so hopefully wil be ok
.

Muser · 31/10/2010 12:33

I personally thought they were fine when I did them with salted butter, TBG thought they were a bit salty. I also like to sprinkle some brown sugar on the top before baking. Or you could cover them with chocolate if you have any. Yum.

OkieCokie · 31/10/2010 13:09

Bloody hell Wit you are going to queue jump both me and moo at this rate! Mr C and I have discussed it and are planning the sechs for Thurs. He reckons it is because he wants to get thing moving but I reckon it is just because he hasn't had it for a while. I won't do it before as I need parentals here to mind the little one if it all does start going and they arrive then so it is legs crossed until then.

MrsFC · 31/10/2010 15:35

Afternoon all,

box - you are wise indeed. two or three days of a bad birth experience does not equal the years and years of following joy sleeplessness, worry, arguements and wonder that follow with this whole other person that you love.

okie, silver, moo, your babies WILL come, and soon! Good luck with the sechs. I explained to the FC that we shall be trying that every day from 36 weeks whether he likes it or not - given that all signs point to a ten pounder at least - so the earlier the better...

We have just come back from a loverly fry up at the caff. I do miss fried eggs though. I know most of you are DHB's & eat them, but I am a scardy cat, and the FC is all clued up & won't let me anyway. (I do eat raw cake mix when he isn't looking though...)

muse - your break sounds just lovely. Hope you are feeling better after your fall, and have glorious bruises to show for it. Yay for TBG feeling the kicking! And don't forget the tale so that you can tell your future preggers DIL or DS how you fell and all was well.

I'm all up for a Christmas meet fo sho. I'm also VERY excited about a party I'm having in Nov for my birthday! You are of course, all invited - I've sent details in the other place....

Scorpette · 31/10/2010 15:45

This is reassuring stuff coming from those who've done it before [hsmile] Birth does seem very scary when you've never done it before, not to mention potentially dangerous, and when people (not nec. youse lot) talk about tears (vaginal, not leaky eyes!), cuts, massive bleeding, complications and the rest, it really does make me think 'how am I going to cope? How will I get through it?' and so on, so is good to recognise that although it's hardly a barrel of laughs, it is actually not that big a thing compared to everything else, especially the wonder that comes after. Cheers, guys.

quick drop in to say, no sechs yet, but I have had 2 largish portions of summer fruit crumble with vanilla ice cream.

C'mon silverino!!!

MrsFC · 31/10/2010 16:12

score, I had a pretty grim birth exp first time round. Three days alone in hospital while they tried to induce with NO success, followed by a section, and I have an INCREDIBLE knife phobia. (The FC gets VERY frustrated when we try to hire a DVD because I won't watch violent ones that are over a 12!). Then a VERY scary shouty MW who was all 'I suppose you want to BF then do you? Come on then' and literally manhandled my nipple into the boy childs mouth, and threatened me with a bottle so often that I lied & said he'd latched on when he was losing too much weight.

But it was a week of my life, that was all. And I have a healthy happy seven year old who I managed to BF for 10 months.

Just a week. That's all. For the prize of a lifetime xxxx

Scorpette · 31/10/2010 17:01

Awww, that proper brought tears (NOT the vaginal kind, heheh) to my eyes, so it did. I think I've been scared for life by hearing tales of my Mum's horrific breech-gone-wrong labour with my brother (and aftermath) - let's just leave it at how she she was told she would die if she had any more kids (lucky they only wanted two). Why did my parents tell us the details?! Why couldn't they just have been stiff-upper-lip, non-sharing types who left us in the dark about everything?!

Muser · 31/10/2010 17:06

Just remember Scorps, for every horror story there's another one where everything was normal. Those ones just don't stick in your mind.

And you have ages to go before you need to worry about that anyway. Stay firmly in De Nile until week 39 at least.

rollerbaby · 31/10/2010 17:41

No more talk of horror!!! I'm having a gentle lavender smelling sneeze okay?!

Scorpette · 31/10/2010 17:49

My Mum's probs were 60% incredible bad luck fluke, 40% her being the size of a 10 yr old child, so don't worry, HoneyMonster.

Muser, you are right - I semi-jokingly told her off for her horror stories t'other day and she pointed out that I should be reassured that nothing I go through could be that bad!

Do you know what I actually worry about (and it's v random!)? It's breaking my front teeth! I have chipped teeth and an overbite (I try to smile with my mouth closed [hwink]) and I clench my teeth when I'm in pain and I have a genuine fear that I will clench my feeble gnashers so much during labour that they'll shatter or chip badly (one has an internal chip like a vertical fissure all the way inside, so I know it's technically feasible)! I'll have to get an Olde Worlde strap to bite on or summat!

Medee · 31/10/2010 18:55

evening all!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 31/10/2010 19:14

Still no news of silver... rootin' for ya lady! Hope that things are going well.

Those cookies sound divine.

Okie glad you have the sechs scheduled Grin. Should probably give it some consideration as well...especially if I want to brazenly queue jump. No rush though...

OkieCokie · 31/10/2010 19:31

Scorps the trick of hippo birthing is to totally relax the jaw which apparently relaxes the veejay and makes it all easy peasy.

Muser · 31/10/2010 19:35

Oh yes, relaxing your jaw. I remember being told that at a smear once. Good tip.

Muser · 31/10/2010 19:36

The cookies are a success by the way. Although they spread a lot more than I expected, so are huge. But tasty. Nom.

And now TBG is making me tasty chilli for dinner. I likes my food today.

rollerbaby · 31/10/2010 19:40

Not sure if you've heard of it, but there's a great book by Ina May Gaskin - Guide to Childbirth. It's a little bit on the granola side but half of the book is dedicated to positive stories of women she has delivered. It's really incredibly inspiring to read and has lots of tips like loose mouth etc being connected to any spincter openings (nice). I read it in 3 days when we went to the coast on hols and now I keep it in the loo and read stories whenever I go. Ha ha bet you wanted to know that.

Doulas and hippo people highly recommend it... Happy to loan it out once this little one exits.

MrsFC · 31/10/2010 20:08

** disclaimer: i only know this because TB is forcing me to watch it.

interesting about the jaw thing, will try and remember that next time i'm, um, 'struggling' (sorry)

MrsFC · 31/10/2010 20:17

I've ordered it, it's on it's way! Very excited about Def Leppard!

rollerbaby · 31/10/2010 20:45

Ha ha I take it we are talking Rock Band and not Ina May!! :O
