Perfect go online - topshop maternity and get yourself some jeans (in the size you were not what you think you'll be after 9 months of chocolate) and maternity vests. This will tide you until you can wander round other shops IMO. I found topshop + Pretty Pregnant (SW11 and Kings Road) a good combo as some things you will want to buy better quality as you will be washing and wearing ALOT.

M&S is bollocks and doesn't seem to do mat wear, and I can never find a GAP that does either. Next stuff was not to my liking, bought couple of thing online but looked shit on. M&P is quite nice, but I always thought was for when more heavily preggers. I also thought quite ££ for what it was.

okie having had all 4 wisdom teeth out I would be inclined to hang on if you can. It will be pretty medieval having it out in the dentists chair and you'll probably be in pain afterwards too. It does take a while to heal as its such a big deep tooth and you won't be able to eat properly. It depends if it settles from now or gets worse. I'd be inclined to give it 24hors and plenty of paracetemol. Obviously if you are in pain, then yes it needs to go but I would wait and see first.

PerfectDromedary · 18/10/2010 14:49

I don't mind buying tops and stuff online - but I wanted to try trousers on, as I have enormo arse and thighs and I can't be fagged to spend my entire life shipping stuff back to the senders.

Oh, God, it's all too much like hard work. But I can't keep wearing pre-pregnancy jeggings - they're starting to look insane and be a bit uncomfortable.

maswera · 18/10/2010 14:52

Drom I feel your pain. I trudged round the shops a couple of weeks ago trying to find maternity clothes, to the point that I nearly blubbed when I got all the way over to JL & Debenhams only to be told they don't have a separate maternity section. And M&S have all their stuff online - which is shite because I need to try stuff on at the best of times, let alone when I have a massive great bit tum. Dorothy P was the best bet in the end, which is saying something...

PerfectDromedary · 18/10/2010 14:57

JOHN LEWIS doesn't have a separate maternity section? What the fuck? I was relying on that.

I almost blubbed in the Gap, partly because their sizes make NO sense, and partly because I'm pregnant, I don't need to be made to feel fat. Bastards.

(Me, hormonal?)

Okie Sorry, have been caught up in my tantrum. I didn't realise you were in wisdom teeth pain. These flare-ups can subside, can't they? I'd definitely wait until post-baby if you can bear it.

rollerbaby · 18/10/2010 15:32

Where can you get to after work/in lunch hour? Apart from Richmond? Can you plead a MW app tomorrow morning/afternoon? If it makes you feel better I had about one MW appointment a week for my entire pregnancy.

Muser · 18/10/2010 15:58

Drom I am living in leggings. I have some maternity ones from Dotty Ps, but not very opaque. Also bought M&S normal ones a size bigger than normal and they're fine. I fear trousers. Dress/tunic top + leggings = outfit.

I highly recommend these Dotty P dresses, I have them in every colour except red. Both in my size and a size bigger. And I've just seen they're on sale so am going to buy all of them a size bigger to accommodate growing bump.

MrsFC · 18/10/2010 16:04

I found some suprisingly nice stuff in Mothercare, jeans and work trousers. I agree about Gap - they made NO allowances for mu HUGE thighs...

But I DID get a lovely grey hoodie from there. I'm not doing any more mat wear shoping. Cant be arsed with the faff.

I spend a small fortune doing one to one preg yoga & pilates with a lady locally. Seems very nice & the pilates isn't as relaxing as the yoga but makes me feel like I've worked - which is a bit more satisfying.

okie I reckon wait if you can - is this the first time it's flared up? drom is right, it could calm down for a while. Mine was always worse when I was sickening for something. So it could be just because all your nerves are readying themselves for birth & the tooth got in the way. IYSWIM??Bastard teeth. They have no sense of timing.

PerfectDromedary · 18/10/2010 16:06

honey & muse Tisn't desperate as yet. I have a bunch of empire-line dresses that are still wearable. I just fancied a shop today and couldn't believe the lack of choice! I assumed that Richmond, which seems to be crammed full of mothers and babies, would have some maternity shops. Am going to check out the "proper" maternitywear shop when it's open tomorrow. And probably do what muse suggested and buy a heap of leggings/more empire-line tops/dresses.

honey Think you're definitely right about spending a bit more on some washable maternity wear. I like the idea of a capsule wardrobe. Whether I will achieve such a thing...

Scorpette · 18/10/2010 16:14

Drom, am already feeling your pain. I wanted to stock up on some nice opaque tights t'other week and decided to get some preggo ones to save money, as I'll need them in a coupla months anyway. Could I buy any? Could I bollocks. JL, M&S, Arse of Fraser (as my Dad perpetually calls it), bloody nowhere sells em. Toppers is supposed to have some but they're rejigging the store at the mo. Apparently, Mothercare is only place that does them and it's located at an out-of-town retail park that I would have to get THREE buses to get to. This is a majot city we're talking about, FFS! Luckily, I have the links to groovy tights that Muser gave me a few weeks back.

Friends with kids swear by Topshop for jeans and trousers (not that they know my news yet). They go up to a 14 and 16, if that helps.

BTW, Gap sizing was invented purely to drive anyone weighing more than 7 stone to suicide.

Am not worrying about clothes yet, however - today is the first day since Friday that I've been able to bear to wear a bra and had the energy to get out of my nightclothes Blush

Okie, I don't want to be a scaremonger (mongerer?), but I had a normal tooth out years ago and it was the worst suffering EVER. Mind you, I have an abnormally strong jaw (I don't look like Abraham Lincoln, please believe me), which played its part, but the pain after was horrendous. I could only have paracetamol due to my allergies and it didn't even touch it. Am not trying to scare you; I just know from that experience that I wouldn't want to do it whilst pg. But I'm not you and I'm not your dentist, so feel free to ignore anything I say.

Muser · 18/10/2010 16:14

I find buying trousers traumatic enough when not pregnant, due to being large of arse and thigh and small of waist (in relation to arse and thighs, not in relation to, say, Kate Moss). I can't face the added trauma of pregnancy. This winter I shall mostly be wearing dresses, leggings/tights and knee high boots.

rollerbaby · 18/10/2010 16:54

drom, muser is right - dresses are your friend. Nice thick tights will see you right. I've only bought one pair but I can commend Mothercare on good ones. Although don't get too big or they will get baggy ankles! I'm 5 9 and a 12-14 and got L which were way too big bizarrely. Normally I have crotch round knee problem with tights so was a bit surprised, but they're not too expensive so a couple of pairs won't bankrupt you.

I spent a bit more money on 1 x citizens of humanity jeans, 2 x linen trousers, 1 x work dress. The rest has been cheapy cheap from Top Shop or similar. The linen trousers and jeans literally got washed twice a week and the dress I lived in. Added bonus is that they will do postnatally and for next time around hopefully too. Was well worth it for me. I know it's a bit more than top shop jeans for example but not that much more, and the amount you'll wear them means you won't need to buy so much other stuff.

I have just spent 3 hours trying to get car insurance renewed and getting keys cut for house. I have lost the will to live. Need to cook, walk dog and wash up. I'm supposed to be RESTING! Mr Moo is not helping today. And is going out to get pished with the new NCT dads.

Casserole · 18/10/2010 17:13

Okie I'd also say wait if you can. I had mine out under general; admittedly it was all 4 but I wouldn't have wanted to have sat in the chair whilst it was happening; and certainly not when pregnant. So if the mouthwash and paracetamol can bring it under control for a bit I'd say hang in there.

rocketleaf · 18/10/2010 17:15

asos do free returns and I was surprised to see they have a preggo section too. This way you can order several different sizes, try them on at home then send back what you don't want. I must admit I havent tried the preggo section yet so don't know what the sizing it like.

I do like that dotty P dressmuse love that teal colour

On the tooth front moo I had all my wisdom teeth out at once in the dentist chair (DHB) and its wasn't that bad. HOWEVER, i was only 20ish at the time and had a shot of valium and some to take afterwards which obv wouldn't be an available option. It did take quite a long a while to heal and I dont think I would have done it without the proffered drugs. I would defo hang loose for a few days and see if it backs down but if you do decide to get it done, don't be too scared. Is the tooth actually thru? it makes a big difference if it come thru or if they have to cut the gum to get at it I think.

rocketleaf · 18/10/2010 17:16

ps MrFC you are bent :p and v welcome to the fruit creams (yuck)

Scorpette · 18/10/2010 17:24

I also find trouser-shopping a living hell and mainly float about in frocks 'n' tights. I have a figure that refuses to confirm to all known physical shapes, comprising of: slim legs (that suddenly go chunky just before they reach my crotch), an arse that is vertically massive (I realise this sounds odd and believe me, it is), slim hips, a really broad waist, a thin ribcage, largish breasts, broad upper back and shoulders and arms that are fat at the top and then get ridiculously thin. Like my face, which looks like all my relatives but no-one in particular, I think my DNA got overexcited and thought, fuck it, let's have a bit from everyone; how freaky can it look, right? Confused

rocketleaf · 18/10/2010 17:30

Tis a beautiful face tho innit scorps? (despite the freakish' body) Wink Problem is there is no such thing as a 'normal' shape. Its bad enough with undiffed clothes but predicting where each individual is going to gain weight must be nigh on impossible. I think the frustrating thing is that you spend literally YEARS finding the brands that fit your body shape and then when you are diffed its very possible they will not have graded to fit you in diffment so you have to start all over again. I am feeling pretty glad that I will be biggest in the summer so just going to wear lots of dresses and leggings.

MrsFC · 18/10/2010 17:54

apollo you are the bent one, not liking orange creams. Thats just weird that is.

honey, I'm all at sea. You have talked about household chores without mentioning ironing. Is all ok???

rollerbaby · 18/10/2010 18:13

MrsFC on the ball as evah!!! Oh don't you worry chuck have been doing inbetween washes and was literally just folding the ironing for the skinny wench that pops in to sort us out each week. There is only a little bit and to be perfectly honest with you I loves my new iron so much I am tempted to do it myself. Grin But then again, I could just have eat more mini crunchies later. In all seriousness I do actually like ironing - it's the virgo in me - seeing the clothes looking all pressed makes me feel like all is right with the world. When I was little I could never go to sleep with a messy bedroom. I am fucked up right?

rollerbaby · 18/10/2010 18:14

did you know if you have 3 mini crunchies that is bigger than a normal sized one, but feels less. Good huh.,

rocketleaf · 18/10/2010 18:23

Extremely moo so can I blame my hatred of ironing and general slatterness on being an Aquarius? I do hope so. I used to oay mys sister a pound to tidy my room when I was a child and that was only after repeated threats from my mother. Good job Tb is fairly tidy really.

MrsFC · 18/10/2010 18:28

honey you are so close to droppage I would never call you fucked up. But it's certainly not normal in this house. I have more of rocket's approach to cleaning. I'm currently in negotiations with the FC about keeping the cleaner when my mat pay runs out. He thinks I should be doing it.

NO WAY JOSE. That is all. This lady is not for sweeping.

SilverSky · 18/10/2010 18:33

My preggo wardrobe consisted of items from Muvvacare and H&M mat section. Did get couple of bits from Pumpkin Patch tho quality not as good. One black wrap dress I had faded to grey after two washes. Tho as it was a tenner in the sale I wasn't too bothered.

Other staple items but not mat wear was stretchy tops from Primarni incl linen trsrs, tunic tops which was paired with H&M mat leggings. Also a bargain stretchy skirt from the supermarket.

I reco not spending loads of money as some items you won't get much wear out of before you outgrow them.

Happy shopping gin tarts!!

Medee · 18/10/2010 18:46

I have some Next vouchers, and thankfully one branch of Next here does the Mat wear in store, and shall invest in some work trousers and leggings. I also aquired a load of stuff off my BM yesterday (which I left on the bus, and had to run full pelt back for - have I harmed my baby?)

scorp have you a Debenhams, they do Maternity tights?

Muser · 18/10/2010 18:56

Oh wow oh wow. Thank you so much lovely PESHies for recommending the Women's Wellness Centre. We had Sharda doing the scan and she was like an angel come to put everything right. It was wonderful.

No pain this time, no pressing down with full force. Heated gel, gentle swoops like you see on telly, and constant chatting about what she was doing. She seemed to love doing it as well.

We were spellbound. It was just the most amazing thing and I am going to treasure the memory forever. We also got some 3D views which were breathtaking. I think I have run out of superlatives now. Just, wow.

rocketleaf · 18/10/2010 19:07

awww thats LOVELY muse really lovely, welling up a bit, sniff, must the the hormones. I am so glad you have a positive memory to treasure now :o
